BREAKING NEWS: confused husbands all around the world reported their wives started attacking carboard boxes while screaming like Xena. The women allegedly all blamed some type of bug for their behaviour.
My Aunt who was 90 years, complained one day to me that she did not have room in her chest of drawers to even put her everyday pants and shirts or underwear. I looked in the chest and all deep and full to the brim, had about 150 old belts from dresses, long gone, tiny little balls of old leftover yarn, her MIL’s old hearing aide, and the same MIL’ old false teeth!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 No wonder she had no room in her drawers for her clothes. She got mad at me for trying to talk her into getting rid of all this junk, but finally let go, and we discarded , 2 big bags of pure junk. She was really happy when she was able to place her clothes, ( neatly) in to those drawers. And loved me even more🤣🤣
I donated my mother's antique china to a local tea house that is in our city's historical district. They loved it and told me that if my family came to have dinner there, to let them know and they would serve us with them. Win-win.
Great live Cas. Here is a fairly recent quote directly from my adult single son. I was Godsmacked when he said it. He's the king of tough love. "Mom, you're not getting any younger neither is Dad. Why are you saving this? You don't need it. I don't want it. Get rid of it or I'll have to...and I will. It's not fair to leave me with this job" I started my response to him with..."But Nick" He promptly left the room. Gotta love him.
Give that boy a hug! I told my mom the same thing when we were cleaning her parents house when they passed. She never threw anything away so when she passed me and my sister in law filled the largest dumpster they make! Do your kids a favor get rid of it now! Ask them now what would you like to have of mine and tag it or give it to them while they are living.
I am getting rid of tons of stuff, after seeing first hand, recently,, in 2 homes, how the children and relatives had to come in and do a major dejunking and clean up.
I found a neighbor who takes ANYTHING back with her to family in Mexico! Gave her a bunch of luggage, after someone gave me her old set. She was so happy. She said that, now, everyone in her family will have a suitcase when they visit Mexico family. Yippee! Everyone wins.
I watch this and this helped me to throw out spiral notebooks worth of my notes. Anytime something comes to mind I just write it in the closest notebook, thinking it later I’ll put it in something organized. I never do. I’ve got dozens of these spiral notebooks filled with my brains rantings. And I was going through them slowly to figure out if I wanted to keep each page and where I was gonna put those pages or if I was gonna have to rewrite them. And I realized, Cass would tell me that I have not used these journals in three years and my life was fine, so I do not need whatever written in these journals. There’s no need to even go through them. So I threw them out!
I do this but i do it digitally. I just open my note app and write it down and close out..its saved and i dont have paper clutter. And you can delete it if you decide its really not worthy of keeping....
that might not be so uncommon but you know as I was reading your comment I realized that maybe the random writings were meant to just help in that time period, and weren't meant to be a burden for our future self but just a way to decompress, self reflect et cetera in the moment and thats it. Good for you.
The day I packed up and donated three sets of “grandma china” I had inherited (because no one else in the family wanted it on either my or my husband’s side) was the day I started taking back my house!! It was so liberating!!! My husband and I were the first in our generation to get married (my brother and BIL were neither one married and settled until years later) and so we became the dumping ground for all the things from our grandparents. My mother and MIL both gave us all the things they didn’t want - furniture, china, Knick knacks, art etc. Before we knew it, my husband and I had a house full of grandma things and our home was not our own. Out of a sense of guilt and obligation we took it all. Even a gigantic doll house. It was RIDICULOUS. Donating those sets of china freed me from it - I began getting rid of that stuff like crazy and I finally started having the house I wanted. There are still a few lingering things around that my husband’s parents convinced him are “worth a bunch of money” that he won’t let go of, but it’s 90% all gone. It’s amazing.
I've known ladies in hospice/home care who threw parties for their families/friends to attend. At the party the lady would give the attendees the items she wanted them to have so nobody could say "Oh, Granny wanted me to have such-and-so after she died, she just forgot to put it in her will."
I just donated my Precious Moments figurines. 3 large Rubbermaid containers full. They were all birthday, Christmas and even a wedding gift from one special friend over the last 35 years, but are not my style anymore and have been stored away for 2 decades. I've agonized over what to do with them. I kept just two that best represent our deep friendship and gifted the rest to the owner of a small local antique store that I've become friends with. Told her sell them, raffle them, give them to another customer who collects them... whatever helped her small business.
I paused the video and dumped the ice cream maker I´ve had for 4 years and never used once. Counted to 10 and cut the cable so I would not change my mind.
My mom retired in Feb 2017 & started to declutter. It was super hard as she had her mothers things as well - she passed away in 2001. 😢. When the pandemic hit, she started working harder to get rid of stuff so I didn’t have to deal with it when she died, that was a blessing for me. I tried to help in Oct 2022 when she got out of the hospital and she refused to get rid of anything. My mom passed in March 2023 & I spent weeks cleaning out her apt, deciding what to keep that I wanted & what to donate/toss. It was hard & I was in tears every day but it had to be done. I got rid of 95%of what was in there, I have a storage unit small on 5x11 with the items/furniture I wanted to keep, plus the paperwork I needed in case of estate audit. Prayers that doesn’t happen. When I came home from that trip, I started working on my house, have taken 2 trips to donate & have a pile on my dining room table right now that will be going this weekend with more stuff. It’s hard & it’s emotional up to keep my sanity I have to do it. ❤❤❤❤
One step at a time, you got rid of 95% that is great! Give yourself time and space to grieve❤ losing my mom was the hardest thing but with time the pain has lessened greatly. You can do it!! 🙏
😊 are amazing, showing such resilience under very trying times. 🎉Go you, you should be so proud of you because our family and friends live in our hearts and fond memories. I'm so pleased you found the balance that works for you, so you aren't weighed down under a pile of things. I hope you feel lighter and free-er in your spirit. Hugs for you ❤
Honestly for the china example, people need to just start using it again! Use it on the sabbath once a week. Use it once a month on the 1st or the full moon, or birthdays. use it on a lot of holidays. Enjoy it and appreciate because you should use beautiful things and appreciate them.
Yes! That said, I got rid of my china. It is HIGH lead count (🤮). Plus I got my grandma's blue transfer ware. We use it for our Sunday dishes. They are special to me but will mean nothing to my children if we don't use them and make memories on them.
I love my china and use it often. I do encourage people to pass china and excess glassware along to children who are setting up a new home - your children, children in your extended family - friends of your grandchildren - give stuff to people who will be excited to receive it, don't save things for when you die. Find new homes for your good stuff while you are alive to see the joy on the receivers face.
I lovemthe idea but if you know your ideal self would do it...but your real life person wouldnt get around to actually DOING IT..... Offer it to your kids, cousins ANYONE...and if not give it away on marketplace. Let it bring joy to someone else instead of sitting in a cabinet.
@@jessicaderstine4061 so true you need to check, even the every day sets like Corel a lot of older ones have lead! Otherwise can keep a plate and hang in the wall in a Frame with the heirloom stories or something like that. There are ways to enjoy. But keeping an entire set is huge. I made a teapot and sugar holder into a succulent pot. 🪴
I am mostly decluttered but am always looking for stuff to get rid of. If I ever ask my grown kids if they want something I always preface the question with “My feelings won’t be hurt if you don’t want it.” Takes any guilt off them. And spoiler alert … they want verrrrry little of our stuff.
My mom is clearly bitter that her kids are not particularly interested in her stuff that she wants to pass on. I will take her stuff because it gives her joy and that is important to me. I don't have to keep it because we don't live near her. I don't feel bad getting rid of it because I accomplished my goal..giving her joy!
@@Not2daysatan I would do this for my father in law who was ok getting rid of things as long as it was to someone he knew. This is actually the reason I tell my boys it’s okay if they don’t want whatever I am offering.
I got a notice in the mail for a donations center that benefits veterans services and picks up at my house!! They picked up a ton last week and i scheduled another pick up for this week. I am super proud of myself. I am a butterfly that LOVES any kind of box, basket or bag but i decided to reduce the number of "containers" so i have less room to put my random crap in so i get rid of my random crap.😂 Today i did my bathroom closet and All the drawers, under the bathroom sink . I was so happy....2 big black trash bage of crap plus a whole white trash bag of donations. I even moped and changed my shower curtain liner and CLEANED my tub and tile!!! Y'all i have an electric mop but it doesnt fit behind the toilet...so i went and bought a mop and moped!!! Then it went to the laundry room and did the laundry, cleaned out the cabinets, another big black trash bag of trash! My bathroom is clean and organized. I am down for being ruthless!!! I am feeling better with every single bag that is leaving my house whether it be trash or donations doesnt matter.
Hi Cas! I am 67 and live in Sweden. You are pinning needles into my soul. It feels terrible but I can se myself, with warrior makeup, screeming and runnning down to the basement. 😂 I am like a part-time hoarder but now there is hope… 😊
So off I went at midnight to sort out my mug cupboard! I pulled everything out, washed the cupboard out & rearrange the selves. I was then able to fit my mugs, waterbottles & flasks in. All in one very thin cupboard. Thanks for the tough love.
After listening to you yesterday talking about how we feel badly about wasting things and how we bought this or that cleaning product but we aren’t going to use them, I Decluttered two thirds of my cleaning products from my laundry room . I was high for hours with happiness! I also kicked out random tools that landed in there. I told my husband to take all that toxic stuff to the toxic waste area at the dump and when I told him that Cas gave me permission to let it go. He said , “I like her.”
My grandma recently passed away (99), she lived in the same home for roughly the past 50 years. While cleaning things out, my mom and aunts were blown away with how much junk she had squirreled away in drawers, cupboards, closets, etc. We are talking bills from the 80's, unopened utensils and other kitchen items mixed in with the bills. ALL OF THIS went right into a dumpster. The amazing thing is that no one knew this stuff existed because their home had gobs and gobs of storage compartments. The house always looked so immaculate!
I was helping my Mom’s family clean up some of the excess that my Grandmother had kept for years while my Grandmother was in the hospital. She lived in a small two bedroom house. We were trying to get things cleaned out enough for someone to stay with her when she first came home. I was going through one of her dresser drawers and I found a loaded gun. None of the family had an idea she had a gun. So be careful when you get stuck cleaning out someone else’s things. You never know what you might find.
I'm am so lucky where I live. Block of 3-level community housing flats in UK & they put a recycling dumpster in our car park, so now I have the fun of squishing up boxes that bring my goodies & just walking downstairs to get rid of them. I was so efficient at doing this when I actually NEEDED a box for donation stuff I DIDN'T HAVE ONE 😂😂😂
Working on the garage and found a suitcase full of my clothes from when I was in my twenties. My kids saw them and fought over who gets what. Made me happy and I was glad I got to see my favorite clothes get a new life with my kids
I need this tough love and want more! FYI I actually have Viking Blood running through my veins. I am a Shield Maiden!!! I would love if you can do tough love videos by categories. Example: Tough Love Declutter Your Bathroom; Your Kitchen; Your Clothes Closet; Your Bedroom; Your Living Room; Your utility/garage/basement etc. This video is great but overwhelming, too exhausting and I’d lose my motivation. If it was broken down, I could handle it. Or pick the categories I need help with. I LOVE that in this video you are constantly telling it like it is. Tough love. Reminders we are warriors! You don’t just say it once. It was very helpful to me that you kept on reiterating these truths over and over! You are changing lives! I’m not being dramatic, you are and have been changing MY life and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you! Now I’m crying!!!
Cas you were on fire and I totally agree with you! When I had to declutter my late parent's home I didn't know where to start and cried so many times. It was very emotionally draining. This is why I started my decluttering journey in my home because I don't want my family to deal with my stuff when I'm gone. Take care and sending hugs from Ottawa. 🧡🍁🌻
I am tired of tripping on everything in every room of my house ! I cleaned and decluttered my bedroom a couple of days ago and it is so calming ! I love my bedroom now and it is so easy to keep tidy :). You are the best Cas ! I will rewatch this episode over and over again. This tough love works.
I can so relate. I have to twist and turn to get through half of my house. Enough is enough..... I also went through all my clothes and took 2 huge bags to goodwill yesterday. So freeing. Now to the rest of the house!!! We can do this!
It’s emotional 😭 because of all the insecurities we have from childhood trauma to adulthood. It’s not easy but it’s not impossible either. I started decluttering small spaces and still on this journey until I’m done.
🥰😇🥰 Dear Cass, you have no idea how much I love you 💖 and how much you have helped me in my life. I don't have friends, well, I didn't have friends, but now I have you. You are a blessing to me. I've been following you for a long time, but I appreciate you more and more. I want you to know that I also ended up crying like you at the end of the podcast. Millions of Blessings for you and your beautiful family 🥰😇 from New Jersey, USA
I love it when Cas gets into it with STOP IT! If you don't want to throw out the boxes, tape a piece of paper on them that says donations and fill those suckers up and get rid of them. Perfectly good boxes for decluttering!😊
Cas, I just want you to know how much you're helped me. I fell down the minimalism/decluttering rabbit hole and got obsessed with it and now I've gotten rid of probably 75% of my things and I feel so much better. I still have more I need to get rid of, but for the first time in longer than I can remember, my stuff isn't stressing me out. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart
@@carolstewart1704 Thank you! I didn't actually expect to feel better after getting rid of things even though everything I've watched/read said I would, but it's pretty amazing how freeing it feels. I still have a hard time with some things, but people like Cas have really helped me. Cas is a like a rainbow in a storm, vibrant and full of life, and her particular way of saying it like it is has helped me immensely. I know that if you keep up with it you'll feel amazing! If it helps, what I try to remember is that they are just things. The money is already gone, and if it isn't serving you in some way, then it's just a hinderence.
@@dianap9381 i have alrdy noticed feeling better, yes!! It's true what they say, it just weighs u down! And it seems so strange that u held onto these things bc u dreaded getting them out and all of a sudden u feel so much more free! It's the start of a great journey for so many of us!! 🤗💕
Love this Cas…. My mom is so good at “guilting” me about throwing anything out…she’s a crafty hoarder type person & being in her home sucks the energy right out of me. I’m 58 & it’s taken me over the last few years to just not care about her opinions on this. Thank you always for your words of wisdom for a better/less stress lifestyle 💕💕
Thanks..... that's me and I reallllllllly needed to hear that about the crafty hoarder (and I've not even had time to watch the video, just catching the preview of all of everyone's great comments!) I'm very sure my kids feel the same. 😢
I tuned in right as you were talking (hollering?) about throwing away empty medicine bottles. Since I’ve already planned to do a lot of decluttering on my 3 day weekend, I’m going to play this video on non-stop loop to keep me motivated. Thanks for all you do - including the tears! ❤
I LOVE this! As a minimalist cricket I literally want to yell the boundaries at my friends who say they’re overwhelmed but don’t want to let go of all the things. I wish i had your way of telling everyone what to do without sounding harsh. You have a gift!
Share with them how much decluttering/ minimizing your belongings has changed your life for the better. Challenge them to just try some of your suggestions because what they are doing isn't working.
Hands down the best and most humorous declutter video ever watched. 🔥 A gold mine of simplifying principles to get your thoughts in the right place. Just ambushed my kitchen and decluttered a huge amount in a very short time. 🙌🏼
Cass, I started this video weeks ago and....if felt like you were talking to me. I cried and got angry but I came back today and finished watching. Despite the fact that your tough love hurt my feelings. I cleaned out 2 closets and 10 bags later I was smiling. My husband helped me take all that stuff to either the dump or Good Will. I will tackle the kitchen next. Keep doing these videos... I really need the motivation and the tough love. Thanks!!
If you think Cas is motivating in this video, imagine a whole day, along with Dana and Dawn!! Worth every cent and covers additional all day TYHB declutters throughout the year, then only $10 to renew for another 12 months when your first year of motivation has passed. I was stressed about spending the money, but am so glad I did!! I have access all year to so many motivating, how-to-let-go videos, more than I ever thought possible! This course was something nice I did for me, and I'm so glad I did! Thanks for yet another awesome video Cas!! YOU ARE AMAZEBALLS!! ❤ I trashed all the empty glass spice jars I took the time to remove all the labels for a future project, but that was decades ago for something that aint happening! Thanks for the making me think differently about my J-U-N-K!!

Swedish Death Cleaning Needed!! Dad passed away a few months ago. Mom is now burdened w/ his Ginormous Goodwill purchases collection & plethora of paper stored in so many filing cabinets!! Widow Mom is Buried in CLUTTER!
I gave spare rubber gloves and a bag of sheets and towels I had destined for the animal shelter to my sister in law whose dog had 14 puppies today. She has 3 weeks left til the pups can leave home. She needs all the help she can get 😂
Yes, please give cleaning supplies, towels and bedding to any local animal shelter - winter is coming, they need blankets - baby blankets are especially welcome. IF you are giving away a working washer or dryer always offer them to animal shelters first.
In my neighbourhood we have cupboards in our community centres where we can donate items and you can also take things for free. Especially since I don' t have a car this works like a charm! We even have a spot in our supermarket where we can bring/take books. I love this concept, close to home and accessible. It's not meant for large clean ups, but I have a bag and every time I'm doing groceries, I'll bike to the centre and put some items on the shelves. When I return a week later, all my items are gone!!
I love this! We have a bookcase in the kitchen at work, where we can swap books. I have a pile of books ready to take with me next time I'm in the office 😊
@@jeme7339 I live in The Netherlands, in Europe. There are two community centres close to my home. One is a theatre with local performances and workshops, grab a coffee while playing bridge, pool or darts etc, the other quite similar but has no theatre and more specific to help out, like adult computer lessons, etc. But why not start something similar for instance at a library or other central spot?
Thank you so much! PS I feel listening to your 'boxes must go' thinking that who the heck would Save empty boxes, but now that I've been decluttering I'm laughing out loud because I have so many empty boxes that I have thought that one day I may use this 😅😅 😂😂 gone everyone but o e that now a perfect tea container ❤❤
I make a list of daily, monthly and annual "to do" lists. It really helps me de-clutter. For the past week we have declutterd our closets, washed closets and then painted. They look great. The master bedroom is next. The routine "to do's" are done according to day - for e.g. Thursday and Saturdays laundry days. Every day make bed, do dishes and put items away. We are starting to get a hold of our horrible clutter for past 40 years. If we can do it so can everyone!
I am not sick of my home, have no boxes, well nothing that I feel is clutter but I look at your channel to get inspired anyway! Decluttering is like Wedin. Even if there were no weeds/clutter last week there will be new weeds/clutter this week. Because what yesterday was something dear might feel like clutter today!I always stay to the end story, love your sense of humor 😘
I’ve been working to organize my house for 3-4 years now. We’re hosting this weekend & also have family coming to stay a couple days. So I’m cleaning the house really good & going thru all my drawers, cupboards etc. because of all the work I’ve done over the years it’s not even taking me long. I’d say it’s taking me 10-30 mins per room. I do go thru things regularly as well. But This is why it’s worth it!!
Cas I was crying from the moment you said "going away to Mexico". I can relate....the only time I feel calm is when I dream about a one way ticket to anywhere, so I can escape the clutter and mess I have created here in my home. It has affected our lives to the point of not being comfortable or at ease in our own home and isolating ourselves, so people don't come over to see the mess. I'm so ready to make the change. I'll sign up for the live declutter but will need to watch it later as I'm in Australia and the time zone isn't kind to me 😅 Thank you so much Cas for your passion and getting the fire started in our bellies so we can all take back our homes!
I made a start today....cleaned out the mug cups and only kept the ones I like (that only fit in one drawer) and also cleared out old crockery. It felt great 😅
This live popped up on my computer screen via Facebook right when I was standing in tears overwhelmed and hating everything I owned. The most valuable words that ever came out of your mouth are, “You don’t need another shelf.” Those words have been echoing through my head since this aired and it has changed my life!! Thank you, THANK YOU so much for this. I didn’t even know I was following you on Facebook but I am so thankful you showed up on my screen as I was walking past my desk that day. You are a gift! 🙏🏻💗🙏🏻
Cas, you are incredible and you are not a cry baby. You have raw emotions because you believe in this so strongly. You want us all to have and know the peace that comes with doing this. We love you ❤
This is my month for crying! Overwhelmed by my stuff, sad anniversaries, turning 65 and just a build up of emotions. My mantra lately has been “do l want to pay to move this again”. It’s helping me. Something l have been trying to do is reduce some categories to one container. I think Peter Walsh did that on one of his shows for sentimental items and Dawn does this too. Now, l just have to put my Viking hat on and condense that stuff. Thanks for the kick in the butt🤗🇨🇦🥷🏻
Unfortunately I missed the live stream, but I just want to say THANK YOU FOR THE TOUGH LOVE! I needed it and I will re-watch this video every time I need it again. I have always had a problem keeping stuff (literally even as a small child). I can literally be emotionally attached to a freaking sock that has a hole in it and doesn't have a match. (I wish I was joking and yes I clearly need therapy lol). But my major problem is I've always wanted to keep all my stuff "brand new". I don't want to actually use my stuff because I might break it or get it dirty, etc. And yes I know it doesn't make ANY sense, because WHY even have something if I'm not going to use it.......but I've been doing some major work on myself, training my brain, and trying to change my mindset around stuff. So thank you. I need the tough love. NO MORE EXCUSES!!
In May, I did a Swedish death clean in my house. Totally tamed my kitchen inspired by videos from Cas and Dawn (the Minimal Mom). After finishing the kitchen, I keep thinking how much I don't like the mugs that go with my dishes set. They match; they're the same pattern. But I don't like them. This video inspires me to go ahead and get rid of them.
CAS, I truly understand what you're saying. After going thru an organized😢crafting space and half of an organized garage....(Still working out there)....18 bags of trash...and 3 loads to goodwill. SO WORTH IT!!! The space is FEELING AMAZING!!!
Abut the sheet sets, get rid of the colors, get white sheets so you can bleach them when people are throwing up. You can also see how often you need to wash the pillow cases. Some will yellow after a week, some take two weeks-it all depends on the person (also a great way to gauge hygiene upkeep especially for teens). It’s a game changer!
Hi, Cas, Thank you for the tough love! ❤ Being a very sentimental person, I've learned that when it comes to decluttering, its okay to feel sad after making the right decision. Be well, everyone! 💕💕
Found you thru Steve Ramsey podcast. This kind of video is so flipping motivational. I have had piles of "things to sell on eBay" for over 7 years at the "new house." Right now. Recycle bin is FULL of those boxes. No more empty boxes under the basement staircase. No more boxes of power cables and old USB. Baby steps, feels good. I'm the husband, I have ADHD, at least 3rd gen hoarder, I need the helpful kick in the pants from time to time. Thank you.
Moved in May, i feel you Cas!! Boxes that were hidden away at the old house are now cluttering what should be empty space in my bedroom. A friend came on Friday to help me tackle the living room piles and it was a HUGE gift and we made so mucb progress!! Fidn a friend who loves to organize, they arent attached to your stuff.
I just got so much done in that last 40 mins 😳 This is literally the most motivating video for an ADHD brain. Thank you! Please make more content like this! 🙏🏼 (I’ll keep rewatching this in the meantime)
I watched half of this video, decluttered my office space and threw out stuff. Then I came back to the video this weekend and I decluttered my bathroom cabinet and hallway closet. We live in a small unit, so all our space is valuable. Thanks for your passion! 😊
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!! This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear right now and it means SO MUCH TO ME! HUGE HUGS, LOVE & GRATITUDE TO YOU, CAS! This video is one of the BEST EVER!!! XOXO
Oh Cass, I love you sooooo much!!! I dont need these advises anymore, I just watch you because you are so entertaining, so cute and funny, pure soul. ❤
Best kick in the pants ever. Thank you, Cas. I've paused this video multiple times to tidy and declutter my kitchen cupboards and drawers, pull items out of bins I know I've been keeping and shuffling out of fear, and...this is so ridiculous but I finally just threw away some scrunchies my mom handed off to me that I used to use in high school -- and teared up 🙈 Been feeling guilty knowing no one would want them (including me because I don't use scrunchies anymore) but they are still usable. Well now they are in the trash and I will never think about them again. Tearing up again as I share this with everyone and feeling so outrageously silly for it, but I also feel SO encouraged by Cas and everyone else who has been there or is right there with me feeling emotions about meaningless crap ❤️ Put some paint on my face and give me a sword, I'm about to win this war! 🔥💪🏻
Wow! Cas Amazing! You made me cry at the end. You are the most real and humble and kind person with such sincerity. I have been helping people and family and friends get organized for over 5 years and finally decided to do it for income. I am praying that I will be the best I can be for others. It truly brings me joy to help them overcome their declutter. I've gone through your professional certified organizational specialist course and will be going through it again. A struggle a little with fear of success and fear of failure. Thank you for helping all of us!
Funny you mentioned the antique furniture. I just replaced 2 antique curio cabinets with IKEA Havsta units. I never ever thought I would part with them, none of the 5 kids wanted them, so my neighbors took them off my hands. This was largely a compliment to you.
I love this! Even though I'm renovating, everything is a mess, dust everywhere and I'm tired, I ran to some items I kept for too long and threw them out. Appearantly I need tough love, please do this more often!
I decluttered two kitchen cabinets that had already been decluttered more than once while I was watching LIVE! Cas is the best for tough love! Thank you!
LOL!!! You crack me up so much! I too dreamed of a not too serious illness to escape my reality after relocating from the city to our home on Lake Huron. It was a much longed-for move, but fraught with stress, steess, and more stress. In the end, I was lucky enough tobe able to just sleep and sleep and sleep.
Cass, 1st of all, I'm listening to this after the fact, but you did a great job of holding everyone's hands to the fire. 😂 As a B'Boomer who's commented before, I've been wanting to throw this idea out for you to remind people to also keep on top of. So it's about hanging on to little bits and pieces and parts of things that we think we might need even though we used the major part of it . To clarify, I mean, suppose you use some yarn and you had about 15% left ,You save it ! Maybe it's leftover wood or beat up towels or its little bits of wire, string, shelf liner. Etc that you throw into a containers thinking you'll use up, but in fact it sits there forever. This type of stuff just ends up becoming piles of debris mixed-up in your containers, drawers, or closets .... Chuck it, I Say !! 🏖Kj in Tampa Bay😊
we boomers were taught to be thrifty and squeeze every bit of toothpaste out of the gnarled tube of toothpaste! Letting go and into the trash is our newfound freedom! YAY!! ... thankfully with Cas' help!!
Cas, I needed this! After 2+ yrs of decluttering (thanks to you, Dawn, and Dana) I let things creep back in the last few months and I was so discouraged to start over. Especially after a tense conversation with a family member who found out I declutter all the toys they gave my child. But you're right, I do not want to be a slave to things!! And I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but I can't spare my family's peace for the feelings of everyone who gives us things... In fact after this I threw away a perfectly good mason jar because someone drank milk in it and it had a milk ring around the bottom that I couldn't reach with my dish scrubber and I said you know what I'm not doing this! I'm not drawing this out and "soaking" this cup and feeling like a failure for forgetting it on the counter and having to come back and wash it in three days. It is a perfectly good glass jar and I have so many of these down in my basement that if a great depression hit then even using this one jar for canning food isn't going to save me anyways, it's going. I felt like such a REBEL. A FREE Rebel. Lol. Thanks Cas.
I love that you cried when you told us to say out loud that we deserve a clean and tidy home. We deserve the peace of space and breathing room. I love it because I CAN'T SAY IT out loud. I love it because I TEAR UP when I try to say this out loud, and don't dare say it to other people who wonder aloud what my problem is. I KNOW that a part of my challenge with clutter and disorganization and even cleanliness is that I feel that I am trash and that while my efforts in other areas are worthwhile, such as work, friendship, pets -- that when it comes to having a home and feeling proud and at peace and content and safe and valued and accomplished and comfortable, I feel I do not deserve it. Not because of anything I have done wrong, but because that is what was instilled in me by my parents and later my partners over many years. So you hit the nail on the head. So thank you for tearing up for all of us who have struggled with self-esteem and with ADHD or other challenges and who have seen that manifesting itself in our homes and have felt too clueless or powerless or helpless or uninformed or discouraged to fight back effectively against that negative energy. Sometimes it takes a friend, even one we don't know, just acknowledging the sometimes tragic truth at the heart of things to help us clear a path through our shame and tears.
This was a different side of the Cas I love-and I love this Cas, too. I was tearing up along with you. I love hearing the ‘one drawer, one cabinet’ mandate. Thank you!!! I can do that.
One drawer for kitchen gadgets, no way 😮 not if you love cooking and use them! That said you’ve inspired me and I am PUMPED and wish I didn’t have to stop the decluttering I started today! I’m upset to stop to do stupid stuff like feed dogs cook dinner and go to class. 😂 thanks for the fire 🔥 🔥 🔥
Cas, true story...despite perfectionism, procrastination, all the cricket stuff, whenever I have just taken your advice I have 100% been happy with this result and felt good about it and myself after. The "done is better than perfect" is spot on. I never regret if it doesn't look as perfect in my mind or expectations bc it works and I never look at it and think "but it's not perfect". Instead I genuinely think oh man, this works great and wish I had done it sooner instead of stressing about it and had stopped letting the clutter bully me
Every day I look at my to-do list. It used to be overwhelming because I was in a new house with so many projects, plus a continual decluttering. I realized I was driving my own self crazy. So now every morning I look at my to-do list and pick out 3 things to do that day. Today was finish putting together an outdoor shed that my roommate purchased, go to the hardware store and get a few items to start painting my bathroom and a load of laundry, plus…I try to declutter (trash or donate) 1-3 items every day. My everyday list is dishes, feed the cats and 5-minute tidy before bed.
Oh my gosh! You're AWESOME!!! I just spent 5 hours getting rid of so much crap!! Even though I'm in a lot of pain - I'm having my right hip replaced on October 3rd - I realized, I won't be worth squat until well after the 1st of the year. So, I did what I could, hubby had to remove the donation and trash bags. He's excited now and once he cleans out his dresser drawers, we'll be able to remove a large piece of furniture from our bedroom. Also, we are removing an entertainment center that we stuffed into our walk-in closet (it was a guilt keeper from when my parents passed). I love you, last year I went through my kitchen 3 separate times, I'm getting better on releasing crap every time. So far I only missed one item and said, oh well, and used something I had kept. Sorry this is so long, but you've changed my life of anxiety and self bashing!!!! YAY!
Thank you needed the tough love today. You are always so inspirational. I grew up in a Seriously hoarded household… I’ve struggled so much with it and have been slowly decluttering and dealing with the house clearance of the hoarded house since the passing of the hoarding parent who owned it. I ended up ‘rescuing’ and filling lots of my own spaces that are available to me, so that I now have that to deal with too. When I re-look at things as I go back over them they are often not needed or wanted and I have no idea why I have brought them back to my own space! The thing I need some help and tips for and would love to see videos on photos and photo management….thanks for always being so upbeat and constructive.
Hi Cass , this has come at the right time for my kick up the a***.My son has gone on holiday so while he is away, I have unlimited time to declutter the loft storage space that is only accessible in his bedroom. Instead of getting everything out I am decluttering as I go and getting rid of the empty boxes. I was going to start this tomorrow but I decided the time is now. So I am watching and listening to you as I am getting rid of things. Thanks for the motivation. From a grateful British procrastinator.😊
To get rid of kids' old toys... tell them Santa won't bring new gifts unless there is space for them. That's what I told my girls and it worked every year :D
I’m only 5 minutes in and I’m dying laughing but I also feel super motivated! You have a gift with giving tough love in the very best way. Keep ‘em coming!Thank you!
Just watched this tonight. You were in my mind this week. Spent 4 hours decluttering prescription meds - tons expired. Empty boxes galore. Broken down & going to the dump. Old pillows too. Oh my!! I know you would be as excited as I was seeing what I had ready for garbage. 😊 Thank you Cas
we‘re moving in 3 weeks so every day there‘s some decluttering going on. today I took 2 big ikea plastic boxes full of kitchen stuff to the thrift store that lived in quarantine in our basement for 2 years - it took me this long to finally get rid of my grandma‘s old china thst was forced on me after her death almost 15yrs ago! I used it daily for part of that time but still 😅 I‘m pretty ruthless about getting rid of stuff rn cause we‘re going to move into our first self-owned house and I do not want anything in there that does not work for me or the hubby 💪
Watching this a month later but it's still so valuable! Both of my parents passed away in the last year. It has been overwhelming and neither of them were terribly cluttered. Even if they aren't really cluttered, there is emotion attached to all the things and it's hard!! I'm totally hauling things out lately....out of their houses and now mine. It feels good and once it's gone, I don't feel guilty or sad anymore.
BREAKING NEWS: confused husbands all around the world reported their wives started attacking carboard boxes while screaming like Xena. The women allegedly all blamed some type of bug for their behaviour.
Love it 😂
This made me laugh so hard!!! 😂😂😂
Very good! 👏
This is awesome!!
Hilarious 😂
Win-win.
That is awesome!
That's beautiful. Give and the world gives back! 💚
I ❤ this! Yes, a win-win! Great idea!
Awesome idea!!! I just can’t part with stuff if it might not be honored somewhere else. This is brilliant!!!
Such a beautiful idea!
Gotta love him.
yup. Swedish death cleaning.
I told my mom the same thing her reply? “I don’t care” I told her I didn’t know you hated me that much 😢
I am getting rid of tons of stuff, after seeing first hand, recently,, in 2 homes, how the children and relatives had to come in and do a major dejunking and clean up.
We are moving. My son said he will get us a dumpster. I think he doesn't want anything!
Let's make space for space in our homes, in our mind. A big hug from Germany😊
Get rid of the storage unit! Such a waste of money. Why are you saving it? You are not using it if sitting in a storage unit. Tough love!
One step at a time, you got rid of 95% that is great! Give yourself time and space to grieve❤ losing my mom was the hardest thing but with time the pain has lessened greatly. You can do it!! 🙏
❤
😊 are amazing, showing such resilience under very trying times. 🎉Go you, you should be so proud of you because our family and friends live in our hearts and fond memories. I'm so pleased you found the balance that works for you, so you aren't weighed down under a pile of things. I hope you feel lighter and free-er in your spirit. Hugs for you ❤
Good for you! You are brave and strong! 💕💪
Such a great idea!!!!
Good idea. I'd hate to think my kids were taking my stuff because they were too polite to say no.
I do the same & mine don't want most of the stuff, either. Wish I could have known that years ago.
Correct. They don’t want it and thank you for not obliging them to take it. I was on that receiving end and it was miserable.
I got a notice in the mail for a donations center that benefits veterans services and picks up at my house!! They picked up a ton last week and i scheduled another pick up for this week.
I am super proud of myself. I am a butterfly that LOVES any kind of box, basket or bag but i decided to reduce the number of "containers" so i have less room to put my random crap in so i get rid of my random crap.😂
Today i did my bathroom closet and All the drawers, under the bathroom sink .
Cas, one year later and this is still a fabulous body doubling and motivating video~❤❤
Hi Cas! I am 67 and live in Sweden. You are pinning needles into my soul. It feels terrible but I can se myself, with warrior makeup, screeming and runnning down to the basement. 😂 I am like a part-time hoarder but now there is hope… 😊
You can do it! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Now that's a good husband 😂
@@carolwhitaker5880 Yikes! guess it made her feel safe, or was it grandpa's?
I don't know where you live, but anything that lived in a garage for a few years in my neck of the woods is pretty much NOT redeemable.
@bitrudder3792 sorry to hear that.
I'm watching this 9 months after you've recorded it, I'm SO grateful for all your videos! From over in the UK ❤
Not a crybaby, Cas, just passionate and honest! You know what a difference this can make in people’s lives. Keep it up and keep being you, girl!💖
Soo true

Cas is a like a rainbow in a storm, vibrant and full of life, and her particular way of saying it like it is has helped me immensely. I know that if you keep up with it you'll feel amazing! Same here. I think I’ve decluttered about 75%.

I'm in the same position with my mom - she just won't let me get rid of ANYTHING...even after I've already put it in the trash can!
I tuned in right as you were talking (hollering?) about throwing away empty medicine bottles. Since I’ve already planned to do a lot of decluttering on my 3 day weekend, I’m going to play this video on non-stop loop to keep me motivated. Thanks for all you do - including the tears! ❤
You are so capable!

Check with your local shelters before donating.
Our city shelters do not accept sheets or pillows.🙁
And sometimes I find things I can use too. Or a book I want to read. Some I keep, some I return after reading.
I love this!
We have a bookcase in the kitchen at work, where we can swap books. I have a pile of books ready to take with me next time I'm in the office 😊
Where do you live that you have such beautiful community centres?
@@jeme7339 I live in The Netherlands, in Europe. There are two community centres close to my home. One is a theatre with local performances and workshops, grab a coffee while playing bridge, pool or darts etc, the other quite similar but has no theatre and more specific to help out, like adult computer lessons, etc. But why not start something similar for instance at a library or other central spot?
Yes, I love this!! passing along what no longer serves us and also indulging in the communal pot, only to give it back once we're done!
💚💚☮☮
Thank you so much! PS I feel listening to your 'boxes must go' thinking that who the heck would Save empty boxes, but now that I've been decluttering I'm laughing out loud because I have so many empty boxes that I have thought that one day I may use this 😅😅 😂😂 gone everyone but o e that now a perfect tea container ❤❤
Way to go!
I am an organizer and I will ALWAYS benefit from your wisdom for my own home and what I can take to clients! Thank you Cas!!!!
🤩Good for you on your closets. I've just started to do mine. Gotta go slow with my hubby's stuff & use lots of reverse psychology 😅 🏖Kj in Tampa Bay 😊
Good luck all!
Oh!!! I had never thought about it like that before. Weeding 🤔. I like that! Adds a mind shift and a new perspective that I can work with 😊. Thanks!
Michelle from South Africa. I'm decluttering while you speak . Thanks Cas❤
That's amazing!! Truly inspirational for me! TYSM for sharing!
"You have to sometimes just do 'good enough' to get to the place where u can do BETTER!" WOW! ❤
You really CAN do it. It might hurt, but you can get through it. It's worth it. I believe in you.
I made a start today....cleaned out the mug cups and only kept the ones I like (that only fit in one drawer) and also cleared out old crockery. It felt great 😅
Congrats! Now get it out the door, and you will be so happy! @@poppet808
You actually made me get tears in my eyes. I deserve better. I am working hard.
I love the way you make it seem like the clutter is a bully in our lives, so true!
I have been giving my “good” clutter to the homeless shelter for the families that are graduating out to there own homes.
Love that!
Hi, Cas,
Thank you for the tough love! ❤
Being a very sentimental person, I've learned that when it comes to decluttering, its okay to feel sad after making the right decision.
Thank you.
I'm so glad you are here! Congratulations on your decluttering today. Keep it up!
XOXO
Oh goodness. I’m a serial box saver… for years haha. All appliances it’s super ridiculous but real.
Every box that arrives at my home is immediately used for donations! Thats a win win for me.
Oh Cass, I love you sooooo much!!! I dont need these advises anymore, I just watch you because you are so entertaining, so cute and funny, pure soul. ❤
During Olympics, I purged over 2 Amazon boxes of candles. Total gone over 100 tapers, tea lights, jars, odd speciality candles, IT'S AMAZING
The cave you fear to enter, holds the treasure you seek! God has a better plan than you can ever dream ❤
I know!!!!!!!
"It all adds up to a BIG FREAKING DEAL!" Love this whole video 🔥🔥🔥! Thank you Cas!
Lol. Thanks Cas.
This may be the best video you have ever done, and that is saying a lot as they are all great. Thank you Cas💕
Instead I genuinely think oh man, this works great and wish I had done it sooner instead of stressing about it and had stopped letting the clutter bully me
This video helped me get through a MAJOR round of decluttering my whole house and motivated me not to give up. 🙂
I went through my kitchen drawers and omg I had 3 sets of measuring spoons, 2 whisks, 2 graters.....etc..I did it one drawer thank you ❤
I love it!!!! " Is this going to be my problem?" I want to make sure that I don't make my own stuff a problem for the next generation!
Yes!! Stuff shuffling and fighting my house and ready to escape. Finally finding freedom with you, Dawn and Dana!
Woohoo!
Wow 😳 100% how I feel...so anxious with "stuff" can't even think 🤔
My dad passed last May. The burden is real, exhausting and emotionally draining.
