I think you should do a series where you instruct us how to set up organization system for each type of bug, BY ROOM. Like, this is how you organize a butterfly bathroom, this is how you organize a ladybug closet, that kind of thing. My husband is a butterfly and his bathroom is always a mess. I am a bee and I don't know how to set up systems for him.

The best thing I did for my butterfly son was to add hooks. Hooks near his laundry hamper for things that had been worn, but not necessarily needed to be washed. Hooks in the bathroom for things he was taking off and putting on. Hooks for towels. Then if the hooks were full, he needed to deal with it. I know it sounds silly, but it really worked for him (he was 24 at the time).

@@barbborja1910 I put hooks in the bathroom for my daughter to hang her used towel since she didn't want to use the basket I have for dirty towels. It didn't work. I can got to the bathroom and pick up the towels off the floor and put them in the basket only for her to pull them out onto the floor. She has autism and it will take consistency her.

Go big. Big tray for stuff on counter. He dumps, you move tray to clean. Drawers, bigger baskets. He will drop and go. Do not use little organizers for anything. Butterfly will just drive you Bonkers Mrs. Bee. He organizes by big bucket method. Maybe buy pretty baskets not actual buckets but you know…Organize only your personal stuff like a happy buzz-buzz. ❤😂

Thanks to Cas, I learned that I am a butterfly and had to "unlearn" my cricket upbringing. As a bee, you understand that your husband needs to see his things, which is already helpful. What I learned about being a butterfly, is that it is mostly about how easy it is to put things away so I don't leave them out. So nothing with lids - I tried bins that are see througy with lids and it absolutely wasn't working.
For everything on the counter (toothbrushes, comb, everyday stuff), I have one of these shower caddies now (that people usually use in the bath or shower for their shampoo, shower gel, etc). It has holes underneath, so can drain and when I clean, all I need to do is move the caddy. They can actually also be a compromise between bees and butterflies since they also some with compartments and even one side having several compartments and the other side only one big compartment.
The other thing I have are over the door hangers everywhere. Those are also a great compromise between bees and butterflies because there can be some categories but it's still really easy to put things away. I have mesh ones for the bathroom and bigger stuff is in there, such as hair dryer
Btw, the over the door hangers with small pockets over the pantry door are just perfect compromise between bees and butterflies for all those seasonings/herbs. Easy to find everything even when the butterfly just puts it back wherever but easy enough for the bee to do some small micro organizing/grouping together.
Anyway, I agree - such a series would be amazing. I struggled so much in the beginning after finding out how I organize what to do so it would work for my family. I actually first thought that I am a bee but only when setting things up for my ladybug husband and butterfly kids, did I realize that I actually like macro organization for most things. That's why we have a lot of bee/butterfly compromises now 😊

Cass, you don’t give yourself enough credit! Does that producer understand that you built a whole following with this system? Your system changed my whole view of organization. (Maybe because I’m a little ADHD too 😂) I used to beat myself up because I couldn’t be more organized. When I learned about ladybugs, I finally understood there was nothing wrong with me, I just do things different than some of the organizing “gurus”.

I'm a pretty significant bee, but decades of untreated ADHD have pulled a lot of butterfly into the picture. In the past year, I've finally figured out that I I won't maintain systems that require un/restacking. So while I love cube bins, I can't have layers of things inside it (unless they're all vertical), and I won't remove/replace lids routinely. Vertical stacking is great as long as they are open front bins or drawers. For putting things BACK, I have to be able to do it one-handed. I also have some things in multiples so that they can live all the places they're used. For instance, I have at least four pairs of scissors and three tape measures with different permanent homes through the house so that there is always a pair convenient for certain tasks.
My mom is the ladiest ladybug that ever did ladybug, and it drives me bonkers to not know where stuff has gone.

Fellow bee here. I typically save vertical stacking for things I rarely use and storage cubes for lots of small items in a common category. (For example, all the random girls' Bible class craft items get separated into individual containers and those are dumped into the same cube) Labeling the random boxes shoved on the top shelf of the closet goes a long way when you only open them twice a year.

A lot of people seem to think about the types as aspirational vibes, so that's how you get someone saying they're a Cricket INFJ, when in fact they're a Butterfly ISFP. A lot of people also have a hard time figuring out what the average is and seeing patterns of behaviour, and then comparing themselves to that, so they feel they relate to all types equally while they could probably be easily typed by an outsider with good pattern recognition.

My mom's a butterfly and I'm a cricket. My room as a kid was always that one room that looks very different from the rest of the house and I'd get anxious being in the rest of the house because of the "constant mess" that I now understand was just her way of organizing. She always knew where everything was and would notice if you moved something from one pile to where it actually went. I'd rather "reset the house to baseline" every day while my mom would rather keep piles for each project she's working on until the projects are completely done (even if that means having five projects at once and still starting another).
Now that I'm an adult, it's funny to watch her visit my house. I forgot she used to leave paper towels everywhere because "we can use it again later" even though she gets a new one every time so I end up throwing away four at once when she leaves. As a cricket, my half-used paper towels go right next to the roll.

I have made many changes to accommodate the butterfly in the family! I found ChatGPT to be very lacking in insight compared to what you have offered in your explanations and videos. There was absolutely no mention of the visual and micro/macro concepts, which I understand to be central to the Clutterbug philosophy , and it’s how I usually explain the tendencies. I definitely struggle with perfectionism and am in no way zen or minimal, but I also like a pretty house that is sentimental and aesthetic yet functional and I am a bit of a multi-tasker. I live in a house full of butterflies and therefore I have to adapt to suit their needs as well. Super confused. I am a mega-bug of all of them?!?

I’m detail oriented but I’m not ridged most of the time anyway. I can leave some degree of trails although better about this than I used to be. In this video I’m closer to a butterfly. Heck, my man even calls himself a butterfly now haha (and he is the BIGGEST butterfly on the planet) - something as simple as a 'cleaning supply bin' took so much stress of myself, it was ridiculous. One thing I've really been trying to stick to is 'one thing a day' - so even if I just put one receipt in the right spot / garbage, I'm slowly marching towards improvment. ❤ I love your channel, and the community you've created, and I really enjoy being here 😊

Cass, Ive been watching your videos a long time. Love you, love your message. I couldn't say for sure one style that fits me. But, I've still learned so much from you. I've learned that I can choose how I want to organize my space, based on what works for me and those who share my space. There's more than one right way to do it. Also, now that I'm older, I see a progression through the years. My mom called me a clutterbug 50 years ago 😂. Maybe thats what drew me to you. My home is pretty clean and organized these days. I've learned over the years how to manage that. You give people so many valuable tools to help them on their journey. And, may I say, you may not consider yourself articulate, yet you have given a lot of people a whole vocabulary on cleaning and organizing. Girl, you are rocking it! A tool, i. e. AI, is nothing without someone to build it and someone to weild it. You have been on both sides of that tool. Thats pretty cool! Stopping now, the rhymes are weird. 😂

I'm a Bee. ChatGPT certainly nailed my "function over form" attitude, down to mentioning that I don't *mind* things that are aesthetic, but that it's way down on the list of requirements. I have an intolerance of having to go through several layers of organization (or a drawer full of unrelated things) in order to lay my hands on what I want. It has to be on a shelf, on the wall, or in a drawer, where I can instantly see it. I can feel the rage building when I have to take a lid off of something.

That's Me! Even our kitchen junk drawer needs to have everything in it arranged s9 that it can be seen and accessed as soon as I open it. I thought I was a butterfly/lady bug hybrid because I really don't want or need super detailed categories. But, I do need things in some order. And it has to look neat. I don't mind taking a minute or 2 to put things away right away or at the earliest opportunity, if taking that time means easy access when I need it again. I just hate spending huge chunks of time creating those categories in the first place. So, alot of the cabinets and drawers that I've already de-cluttered, are still in need of organising in my preferred way. What I've been doing for that is taking my zone cleaning sessions, and when I do a 15 minute deep clean in a zone, if I get inspired to do a quick re-orgsnisation of the spot I'm cleaning, I'll do it so that I don't have to come back later to do it. It's a slower pr9cess than re-organising a whole room or area, but it seems to be w9rking for me.

I've never been able to really decide which bug I am, but last month I discovered that I really want my home to look like yours, but it's not serving me well. I need things more functional than anything else. So I decided to set things up for function. I don't know where this is going to end up, because I like the look of things tidy and in lidded boxes, but can't really make myself put the lid on the box and put things away. The element of taking time to do that makes me really anxious, but so does the cluttered look of strictly functional organizing. I guess I will eventually figure it out. I really like this way of citing the differences between the bug, though. Oh, and here's a funny thing, the interiors of my cabinets and closets are pretty and organized but the outside room is a mess. I don't know what that means.

Yes! Most people are predominantly one style with a little bit of 9ne or all of the others. Plus, everyone in tge house might be a different style, and in different areas of the home, we ,igut be a little more of one style, and a different style in another area, depending on what the room is used for. Casssays, each of us is on a spectrum of whatever style we are. i'm a bee/lady bug. I'M very visual with alot of things, but also hidden. I am not an extreme micro-organiser with my things, but I do need a bit of order. And even my hidden things in drawers or cabinets need to be easy to seem so clear and open containers and baskets are ideal for me. I am a little bit crickety/lady bug like with my needle work, tools though...lots if sharp objects, and I feel like they need to be very hidden and well-organised. Or they get lost and that's a safety issue. But with everything else, I'm definitely bes/lady bug.

@@emmydollI thought I was a butterfly/lady bug, but I'm now realizing I'm more of a bee/lady bug. Opening a drawer and seeing my clothes just jammed in there in a messy pile stresses me out lol.

I'm a Bee, husband is a Buttrtfly. I have had to designate space for him. There are spaces in our home I don't touch, and when it starts to bug me, I ask him to clean it up, knowing it will take 3 to 4 days for him to do it. Example: I don't have a junk drawer anywhere in our 4000 square 4 floor home. Hubbies spaces are a junk drawer.

I’m definitely a combination of a butterfly and a bee. I’m mostly a butterfly, my husband always pokes fun at my side table next to the couch because no matter how big it is or how often we try to tidy it up again, it always ends up covered in crochet projects because that’s where I do most of my crocheting and I’m notorious for getting excited about a new project and starting it before I’ve finished older ones. But my yarn shelf brings me lots of joy because I organized it by color and in such a way that I can easily find whatever yarn I need from my stash. I also have always had a messy room, messy dorm, messy house. But most of the time if you ask me where something is I know exactly where to look to find it. My memory is so selective like that lol
At the same time, books and movies have to be alphabetized, spices should be separate from herbs, etc. and I am absolutely a creature of habit like a bee and when things don’t go to plan I break down way too easily lol and very often I struggle with being organized because I want it to be correct and perfect, but I don’t have the capacity in that moment. It’s amazing how well I relate to each.
My husband, in the other hand is such a ladybug. He will tidy the table by putting everything in a storage bin to go through and sort at a later date, but at least in the meantime the table is clear 😂 and then I say “where’s our son’s reading log?” And he has no idea lol or he has a drawer set filled with various electronics cords, but they’re all just shoved in there with no real rhyme or reason. But his desk almost always looks clean and clutter free.

Finally! I am a "bee" who's been trying to be a "cricket". lol I LOVE organized and clean. Would love to have less, but I LOVE my treasures too much to let go of everything I should. I AM slowly letting go of things, but I just learned that my problems with letting go and trying to deal with all kinds of "changes" is quite normal for me, A BEE! The stress I feel is real, but I know it ok to "let it go, let it go......" ;) Thank you!!!!

I think this video is the best at explaining the styles! However it’s more about the examples you showed - perfect way to demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses!!
I’m a combination of Butterfly and Bee. Probably more Butterfly but also like function and efficiency like a Bee. And I also have many projects going at once, and can’t sit and do nothing!!

Cas!!! This video was so helpful for me! I've taken the quiz multiple times over the past couple years, and TBH was still never really sure which bug I am. I came out as something different each time based on my mood that day or something. But this explanation made it so very clear that I'm a ladybug (with some cricket tendencies in certain places). And I was also able to identify the styles of others....my husband, a bee; my sister in law, a cricket; my granddaughter, a butterfly.
Don't ever think that you're not a good teacher! You have taught me so much about creating a better home. You're funny, and you're honest, and you're real..... when I watch your videos, I feel like I'm listening to a friend who's got my back! We all have our weaknesses, but you've now identified something to help you with yours of articulating your thoughts. And it worked so well!
Have a great day, and thank you!

I think it was a great explanation. I am either a butterfly with a low clutter threshold, because too much clutter does start to stress me, or I am a ladybug who needs low enough amounts of stuff that I don’t forget what’s behind the door or in the drawers. I do like color and to see my pretty things and if I can’t see it I forget it, but I also get stressed if too much stuff is out on view.

I am a bee. Procrastination and perfectionism....totally me. So, on the efficiency front, I don't have a dining room area (small apartment) so I drink my morning coffee in my bedroom. People find it odd (but also genius) that I have a coffee maker in my bedroom, but it streamlines my morning. Also, I had never thought of my clutter as me 'not wanting to make a mistake'. I appreciate this new perspective.

Okay, so yes, I did finally realize that I’m a cricket and why as I listened to you, but hey, you have already explained cricket-ness so well so many times that a robot whose skill is synthesizing information had no trouble explaining what you teach. And who put the creativity in the graphics and editing? Not a chat bot. Nope. And who else can put so much of herself into saying “amaze-balls”? Only you, Cass🥰

I want things to look nice and can't rest untill it does but my husband complaines (rightfully so) that I hide things from him...but it's only because I'm scared (rightfully so) that his stuffs permanent home is out in the open where I can always see it. Pans, notes, shoes, clothing, bills, dishes would ALWAYS be left out if I don't stop it. You may ask "why is it bad if you can see everything he plans on using that day? Well...I DONT KNOW, I JUST CANT STAND SEEING THESE THINGS EVERYWHERE

I'm so stumped. I am an artist, so a creative, and inspired. BUT I'm the one who wants my home cozy and homey. Not a minimalist. Practical and quite a systems inventor. My husband is the one who shoves away & hides stuff when someone is coming. I sort, sort , sort everything into categories. He grabs the sorted piles I was working on, and shoves them all into a bag/box behind closed doors. He does the dishes since my illness but spreads all the dirties all over the counters and I come and stack vertically by size, create a 'bubble bath ' bin to soak dishes and another to soak cutlery. And he hates it and rebels, not seeing the help it provides. Over and over again. I come to solve and sort all over the house, creating systems. I feel the styles theory does not cover when we have to pivot to address our family's messy style. Since our marriage, I've been the creator of solutions since hubby loses EVERYTHING *several times a day - no exaggeration.
Since empty nesting, I've been forgiving of myself for having stuff out in staging, not quite out away yet. It's a process. I was quite perfectionist when raising kids.
How would you describe me in your bug categories theory?

  • @comfycozie

I bee-lieve I am a bee. Wanting anyone to be able to go in my house and find anything they need -- that struck the nail on the head. Like a library, you should be able to go to a section and find the exact book you need, because the cataloging rules say book X belongs between book A and B. There is no debate. I find that level of organization soothing. But my "library" won't look like a lab; it needs colour and sparkle and a view of a flower garden through the window. And perfectionism puts the brakes on getting rid of stuff. I am slowly getting rid of useless stuff I "should" keep and letting myself get pretty things that make me happy. How do you get rid of something you hate when someone else likes it? 😅
Thank you for these categories. Maybe if I show this video to my husband, I can get him to let me implement my systems and he will follow them to soothe my perfectionism. I find our homes shared spaces a challenge.
