    I wanted you to know that after watching your channel, even in a house with emotional trauma and holes in the walls, I was inspired to find spaces to make beautiful. When I was finally able to get out and get a beautiful home for my children and me, you helped me start out with it organized and keep discovering ways to keep my mind and my home from being full of clutter. Thank you!

      @@sillymamacita3854hearing my mom talk about the amount of effort she had to go through just to get me to school on time as a kid is crazy. It’s somewhat comforting, especially now, to know that I’ve always been this way, my entire life, my mornings have always been brutal. It doesn’t matter how much sleep. I’m not choosing to be this way.
      The time blindness thing has always been my biggest struggle, my most enduring trait, it was what made me seek out ADHD resources beyond meds from my doc bc I’ve been diagnosed since my 20s, but honestly never thought it had anything to do with everything that keeps causing problems in my life. I just thought it explained why I couldn’t hold focus and got bored easily in class and never did homework. I had no idea there was a bunch of stuff online for us to help us function better!
      Until recently, I just thought adhd was mostly school related stuff but it’s not!
      It’s been really helpful to seek out things specifically aimed at people with adhd. It’s wild how much it affects and how many of my worst traits are just symptoms.

      Also, if your fridge has a freezer apartment, clean both at once. Detach the power source during cleaning to save on energy. Also also, if your fridge has a filter that is accessible from the back, clean that once a year. Similar to the drier that could be a fire hazard.

    🎉l worked for a fire restoration company. My teamed cleaned the house from smoke damage. We had to wipe down every surface with a damp cloth. The big no-no was to spray the walls directly. The liquid run down is what causes the streaks! Have the microfiber cloth folded to about a 4 in square. Spray the cloth and wipe, refolding the cloth as needed. When all the cloth's surfaces are dirty. Toss and get a new cloth. Repeat.

      For curtains and shades it was just the hose with no attachment pulling air through the fabric. I imagine if I was consistent with my own spring cleaning the duster or lint roller would be adequate, but I'm lazy and get behind, so it's the vacuum for me to reset back to square one.

    Just a disclaimer here....I'm a professional cleaner, this method of cleaning an oven ONLY works if you clean your oven on a regular basis (once or twice a year). It does NOT work if your oven is encased in an inch worth of 10 year crud. In that case, do yourself a favor, use the toxic oven cleaner and start cleaning your oven regularly after that. If you're ultra lazy, put some aluminum foil at the bottom to catch everything. Also, using vinegar in your washing machine will ruin the seals over time. You're better off using a dishwasher pod as its designed to be safe for machines.That said....great vid!

    • @kimberlindy
      @kimberlindy 7 месяцев назад +253

      People should NOT line the bottom of some ovens with aluminum foil, as some oven manuals say NOT to do this. I had a tenant who did this and it broke the oven.

      Both the laundry and dish washer machines have deep cleaning rituals and products which are outlined in your manual. I’m a lazy eco-hippie, so I usually source a more environment friendly deep cleaner, but I always use one designed for the specific application.
      And while we’re on the topic of the environment, those disposable dusters are made from virgin timber, usually from the Brazilian rainforest. So if we care about the lungs of the Earth, we might want to use a rag, or something less disposable instead. I know they’re tempting, I have one too, and then I read an article… 😱

    • @xavthomas
      @xavthomas 7 месяцев назад +90

      I disagree with this comment! I used to use the toxic oven cleaner and it did NOT work as well as baking soda mixed with dish soap. And I use eco dish soap, not Dawn.

      My washing machine is 30 years old and I've been using white vinegar instead of fabric softener the entire time and never had to replace seals. However, I don't use it every single wash, probably every 4th with hot water. Keeps the funk away for sure. I don't use fabric softener, I put a dry towel in with damp clothes in dryer, when solar dryer isn't usable. Dries things much faster.

    Before we go crazy disrespecting our ancestors/elders. It’s useful to notice that most of our modern efficiency in cleaning stems from our access to microfiber cloths. They’re based on some spooky Area-51ish microscopic technology that makes cleaning semi-miraculous. I remember cleaning before these things, and it was night and day.
    That said, the other reason we had to spend hours scrubbing, disassembling, reassembling, painting, rearranging, etc. things in the yard, is that our parents and grandparents were teaching us skills and a work ethic. They were actually very smart people, with a wide array of techniques and ridiculously specific tools, including brush technology, which was a thing.
    Weirdly, those days in the yard were some of my happiest memories. Never hesitate to set up your kids with a project. (Safely, of course.) They’ll thank you later.
    Speaking of thanks, your videos have taught me so many cool shortcuts. Thank you! 😄

      @Clutterbug  7 месяцев назад +18

      You are very right. My parents taught me work ethic and how to do hard things, like use power tools and take things apart and fix them very young. I started corn detasseling at 10 years old. I learned that most chores (like emptying the dishwasher) are a cake walk compared with hard labour.
      My kids think putting away the laundry is a huge task, I'm like "bro please, I was building fences and putting new shingles on the roof at your age...you're over here complaining about putting a t-shirt on a hanger...sheesh" 🫣

      I clean every place I move in to, which has been a lot. This place, the fridge looked clean. Once I started taking out the shelves and drawers, years worth of nastiness was caked into every nook and cranny. Took me hours to clean. All because neither the previous tenants nor the landlord thought they needed to take out the shelves to clean. 🤷‍♀️

      I have ADHD and the Sweepy app on Android has been a total game changer. Just set up needed tasks for each room, how often the task needs to be done, assign point values to each in terms of time/difficulty, decide the max points for each day and boom. It auto generates a new cleaning schedule each day, and I like that the tasks are somewhat random and something new every day. I hope this helps your son! Without this app I wouldn't even be thinking about cleaning my baseboards!

    Nice video! One tip if you're often on your knees cleaning or doing repairs: get some sort of knee pads to save your knees from the hard surface.

    Sarcasm is one form of irony(verbal irony). There is situational irony when the outcome is opposite of what you expect it to be (the fire station catches fire and burns down). Dramatic irony is when the audience knows something the character doesn't (horror films: we see the killer hiding behind the door and scream at the heroine not to go in that room). The more you know:)

    On the Wikipedia page for "Irony" I found this:"*Cosmic irony*, sometimes also called 'the irony of fate', presents agents as always ultimately thwarted by forces beyond human control..." A rain storm occurring right after washing one's windows or car would definitely be "forces beyond human control" thwarting the intentions of someone who has just washed her windows or car, in my opinion. If you have pets or cook lots of stinky food curtains can start to smell. I wash mine every other year, upstairs one year and downstairs the next. I made all my curtains though so I know the fabric was pre washed and those hems are solid. You could always just pop stinky curtains on the line for a few hours though if you are worried about shrinking. Let the UV rays do the hard work 😊

    I liked your refrigerator cleaning hack, but I recently switched to using bins in my fridge. Works amazingly well for our house, and so easy to keep clean for me. Also, I dedicated only 1 bin to leftovers and since they are all in one place and I see them in the clear bin when I open refrigerator, I’m reminded what’s left to use for another meal and don’t forget to incorporate the leftovers in upcoming meals. I cannot believe how much food has been saved, zero waste, and that translates to saving $$$. Just my 2 cents. 😀

    I love your hacks. Some additional: The old habit of using baking soda in the fridge is legit. After you clean the spills, wipe down the surfaces of the fridge with water and baking soda 1-3% solution will work. Do not rinse. This will inhibit mold and bacteria from growing.
    I saw those smily sponges at Costco, now I am going to buy them.. For the oven, prevention can go a long way. Throw a flat baking sheet witha rim under any pan that might overflow. It is what many chefs do.
    Washing machine: It will never smell and rarely need cleaning (I have not had to clean in over 5 years, just check). I never use fabric softener, it ruins fabric. Instead I put vinegar or substitute in fabric softener dispenser. (Cheap vinegar substitute 2 Tablespoons citric acid powder per litre (4 cups) of water). This removes any detergent build up in clotĥes and machine. *If your machine ever fails to empty always check this filter for blockages before calling for repair. I found a candy wrapper and a couple of coins from a pocket when this happened to me.
    Dryer: Filter film is caused by fabric softener. It does the same to your clothes, and your skin. Yuck! I don't use it and never have this problem.
    If you have done something stupid like I did the other day and started the machine without the lint filter in
    (dryer made funny sound drum would not turn). I was able to reach down through the filter opening and pull out the clothing that was stuck in the blower wheel. On my machine I had to reach to the bottom left and easily felt and pulled out the offending article without having to take apart the machine or pay for a repair. I hope tis helps someone.
    To prevent fire it is recommended at least once per year to remove the hose from the back of the dryer and vacuum or shake it out. It can become blocked over time.
    Window cleaning: I cleaned windows professionally. Inside a good specialized window cleaning cloth and water is all that is usually needed. Kodiak is the brand I use. It works as well as any of the overpriced brands and is available in many independent dollar stores. Note a regular microfibre cloth works for very light window glass cleaning, but a special good window cleaning cloth is is superior. Never use with standard window cleaners (like windex). These contain waxes that will give you streaks and ruin your cloth. Also never use fabric softners on any of your cleaning cloths for the same reason. For outside vinegar or citric acid solution as described aboe is my go to. Sceens: A wipedown is fine for fly by cleaning or windows you do not open. For a yearly clean they really need to be removed to gel all the debris out of the crevices in the edges and tracks. It can be done without, but I love my steam cleaner for thiis!
    Blinds. Above a kitchen sink, where blinds really get dirty. A very little bit of dish soap and water. Start at the top place a microffibre cloth so it wipes both sides of each slat at once, between your index finger and thumb (you can also use cheap fluffy dollar store gloves for this). Wipe along each section of slat between ladders. I start at the edge and do as many as I can comfortable reach (usually about ten to 12 rows and then move on to the next section. Take great care at the edges of the blind as this is where it is easy to accidently bend the slats.
    Curtains and lampshades: I use a vacuum, but I have animals an I would have to change the sticky roller every 6"(only a slight exaggeration), but would definitely not be time or cost effective in my case. After dust removal a fabric steamer is great to remove wrinkles or freshen up if needed.
    And last, but not least: Thank you Thank-you, Thank-you for your free charts. They are indispensable! As is your energy and vibe.

      To clean microwave, roll a lemon between your hands to loosen up the juices, cut it in half and squeeze all the juice into a bowl, then add one cup of water. Drop in the lemon halves and place the bowl in your microwave. Run the microwave on high for five minutes. The water will be boiling temp. I use a 2 cup glass pyrex measuring cup so I can pick it up by the handle with an oven mitt and remove. This will cause a nice steam and any splatters loosen up and wipe off easy. The lemon makes it smell nice and clean.. Wipe it clean, and you're done!

      Actually it's called "situational irony" but it had already fallen out of use when Alanis tried and failed to bring it back. Personally I like it though as few other terms fit as well. So if you want to call it ironic you're not actually wrong but most people will say you are 😊

    A fridge hack I do that has saved me so much time was to line all my shelves and drawers with cling wrap. If something spills it's really easy to pull out, throw away, and re-cover. There may be times when a spill requires extra clean up but I have had mine like this for 4 years now and haven't had to do any extra cleaning.

    IRONY is the opposite of what we’d expect. Sarcasm is condescending and may embarrass or insult someone, though we can be sarcastic about ourselves too! Like if I broke something in my house because I wasn’t careful, I might say to myself, “Oh, great going; I knew I could count on you.)
    Apolice station being robbed would be ironic.
