      Paying for help with cleaning can also be a great disability accommodation for ADHD or any condition that affects executive function or physical mobility/energy. When so much of life is on hard mode, it makes sense to accept help with the things we can so we have more juice leftover for everything else! : - )

    • @bellaluce7088
      @bellaluce7088 8 месяцев назад +20

      P.S. I used to hate cleaning so much that the thought of paying someone else to do such a supposedly "awful" task seemed icky to me. But someone I know with multiple degrees and a prestigious career told me she was thinking of cleaning for money when she retired because she LIKES it and wanted something to keep busy and make a little extra! Mind blown! ; - D
      I also have a friend who finds cleaning satisfying who supported her young kids while she was in college by cleaning houses because it was flexible and paid better than other jobs that don't require a degree.
      You never know if paying someone to do what you find difficult might just be an important blessing in their life!

    I'm a Flybaby. Been doing Flylady's system (zone cleaning) since 2000 and have never looked back. Now that I no longer work outside of the home, I did switch to a Laundry Day vs. a load every day. I've found that decluttering and Flylady's zones and daily routines work best for me.

    • @SoMagicalMichele
      @SoMagicalMichele 8 месяцев назад +6

      I don't think FlyLady fits in just one category. She has daily stuff which is more of a flit around cleaning what needs to be (hot spots), in some ways she has tasks by assigning each day a task, and then the zones are monthly for the deep cleaning.
      I personally don't like the FlyLady system because it about killed me when I had 5 little kids. I felt like all I did was clean and change diapers. Now the idea of doing her system is still overwhelming. I have about 15 minutes then I have to rest for 2 to 3 hours. If kids didn't do the dishes, then I do the dishes in that time. In my second 15 minutes, I get to work on whatever "weekly task" I have up next. If I'm lucky I get a 3rd 15 minutes to work in a zone decluttering or deep cleaning.

    I'm pretty sure the people you bought the house from had to disclose if the house ever flooded and it sounds like they had to have an issue also. Definitely worth checking into. Of course weird weather events are unpredictable.

    • @reginaeudy9249
      @reginaeudy9249 8 месяцев назад +23

      Yes about needing to disclose. In the U.S. you would have recourse against the seller to cover some of the cost to remedy, i.e. french drain. Not sure about Canada. Good luck, Cas, with figuring out a solution.

      Wow! In the US it’s illegal for the developer, seller and realtor to fail to disclose something as consequential as flooding on the property. That cannot have been unknown to the property developer. It would result in a huge lawsuit here.

    • @tammyprince1818
      @tammyprince1818 8 месяцев назад +11

      Indeed Canada has disclosure rules too! Absolutely worth having a conversation with your Realtor if you were not told, there is recourse! Not your bad, just not allowed!

    • @carriecarrie5285

      They bought a house in a floodplain. This is not an issue with the house; it’s with the location which they were aware of being a floodplain. Anyone buying in a floodplain or anywhere should have emergency preparedness plans. It’s unfortunate that Cas went through this so quickly after buying the house, but hopefully they will be better prepared if or when it happens again.

      Realtor in the US here... so don't know Canadian law, but was there a Seller Property Condition Report where ANYTHING that has been a problem/issue with the property (remedied or not) is disclosed so as to prevent lawsuits??... I would see if you have such a document with your paperwork and/or if you were supposed to have such a document and contact a lawyer and possibly your realtor accordingly.

      Also be mindful of water issues during the wintertime when the ground is frozen and you get that 1 fluke warm day in February or March and all your snow melts and the resulting water has nowhere to sink into the ground.... contact landscaper regarding a swale or French drain.

    • @Mushkiepotamus
      @Mushkiepotamus 8 месяцев назад +24

      You need French drain around the home and major landscaping drainage. Have you contacted a lawyer- IF this wasn’t disclosed to you when you purchased the house- you have a case- this isn’t the first time the flooding occurred.

    • @Mushkiepotamus
      @Mushkiepotamus 8 месяцев назад +7

      Angela Brown’s channel has THE BEST videos on cleaning blinds and cleaning baseboards. She has lessons for 1st time, deep clean and then maintenance cleans- so you don’t have to do deep clean.

    • @Mushkiepotamus
      @Mushkiepotamus 8 месяцев назад +2

      Get a TineCo vacuum mop- you mop and vacuum at the same time. Say you spill a bowl of milk and cereal- just pull out the Tineco and it’s vacuums and cleans it all up and the same time. The Tineco will tell you when the brush roller needs cleaning and when the clean water tank is empty and when then dirty water tank is full. It works on all types of floors just not carpet. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS so you can maintain the machine to last the longest. I have the top model 7S Pro- it cleans right up to the baseboards on each side of the roller. it has quick 3 minute self cleaning cycle for the roller and tubes and a big 6 minute self cleaning cycle. It’s cordless and lasts about 45 minutes per charge. It gives you a visible ring that changes colors to let you know where the unseen dirt is and will automatically increase cleaning power. You still have to empty clean the dirty tank. I also extra clean the roller and roller cover- I have dogs.

    • @deborahheritage5581

      I also have one of these and it is absolutely amazing. Why do your floors twice when you can just do it once. Also so much cleaner. With a mop you are just moving the dirty mop around and it spins so fast its so much more than one pass over with a mop. The best invention ever.@@Mushkiepotamus

      This is interesting. I’ve just had a new shower put in and I’ve been squeegeeing every time but I’d love a quicker solution. Do you use a microfibre cloth or just an ordinary towel?

    • @carlygreen2293
      @carlygreen2293 8 месяцев назад +2

      Yes! I bought the 30 pack of microfibers from Walmart's automotive dept. so I could keep in the bathroom for this particular reason and it is THE BEST! They soak up water sooo good. Great for when my kids treat the tub like the waterpark, too! Then I just hang it over my faucet to dry when I'm all done. We keep a small fan that sits on the counter because our ceiling fan doesnt work, and point it directly into the shower and it helps dry all my towels and keeps the mildew smell out. Highly recommend the fan even if your vent one works. It goes into the bottom linen cabinet when it's dry.
      Also, I keep all my dirty microfibers in a sack in laundry room until I have load of them. As they don't need much soap to wash, and you're not supposed to use heat at all on them so it usually takes 2-3 hours in the dryer with no heat.

But after having my kiddo and running my business at home etc it's not working at all, I try to start and get derailed way too quickly either by my own lack of focus or by my kiddo, or whatever random life thing that comes up and then it gets completely dropped for too long until repeat yikes lol!

      Loved this video. I have a suggestion for you. Try Norwex cleaning cloths, along with their polishing cloth. It cleans as a wet dust cloth as well as the micro fiber cloth for windows, mirrors and I’m sure it would work for glass shower doors. I don’t have glass shower doors so I can’t say for sure. Nothing compares to cleaning windows and doors with them. You just use water and no product. Try them, you won’t believe it! My husband is always the skeptic until he cleaned windows with me.😁

You place the sticker on the bin and than when you scan the QR code the images of contents of the bin pop up. ❤ it’s $10 I believe.

    I use my own checklist. It doesn’t matter what day, what time, etc. So long as everything on the list is done once a week (minimum).
    This way, I clean whenever I have time, and the list keeps me focused and tracks the to do’s for me.
    If I can’t get something done done one week, that’s the task I’ll start with the next week.
    And yes, I include monthly and biweekly tasks in my weekly list. I just check them off on my future week lists whenever they’re completed. Which makes me feel accomplished when I start a new week that has several items already checked off as completed. 😊

    One of the biggest game changers for me was a 15 minute tidy everyday. Set a timer for 15 minutes and put things away, take dirty dishes into the kitchen, grab laundry from the bathroom floor and toss it into the hamper, etc. it’s like the grown up version of the big comfy couch ten second tidy 😂 having a timer set makes it really easy to find motivation to get started because for my ADHD brain, 15 minutes feels like so much less than half an hour. Then by the end of it I’m ready and feel motivated to tackle the daily task!

    I am 69 years old, and I had always cleaned my own home. I once had a 5000 square foot home and I always deep clean my home every 7 weeks from cleaning all windows inside and out. Moved all my appliances and cleaned the floors and behind them. Polish all furniture and moved them. Wash all linens. All bathrooms cleaned thoroughly. Polish all cabinets and doors. I always reorganized all closets and drawers and cleaned them. Once my home was cleaned, I had taken everything out of the garage and washed the epoxy floor. I now have a 2200 square foot home and I do every 7 weeks. I was a nurse in my younger days and worked on a surgical floor. If you google why people don't like to clean it's because they are lazy, I even put together yearly yard sales when I declutter. I am not overweight and in good shape/health because I keep busy. I swim for 1 hour 3 days a week. People choose their Lifestyle. I want a peaceful home to come home to and not be chaotic.

    Also, I've tried the task master style, but get discouraged if i miss a day. Thinking about trying a task looping system so no matter what day it is you just go on to the next task on the list. Would love to see a video on that type of cleaning for people with really unpredictable "schedules"😅

    • @mrskimbays
      @mrskimbays 5 месяцев назад

      That is EXACTLY what I do! I have my tasks broken down (i.e. my list isn't just "bathroom", it is toilette, sink, mirror, bathtub, floor, then it is each part of the kitchen - appliances, counters, dishes, etc.) - I do this for each room of the house. So, my 20 minutes a day is just going to that room and checking off the tasks. If I don't finish that room that day, it moves to the next day. For my brain - if I just have bathroom on my list and I don't have time or energy to do the entire bathroom, then I won't even start it. So breaking it down into manageable tasks helps me tremendously. So, that way I'm not stuck to a certain day of the week. My tasks just rotate. Once I get to the bottom, I start all over. 😁

    Game changers for me:
    1) "Temptation Bundling" with something FUN during and/or afterwards (podcast, TV, RUclips...)
    2) Before I get started, imagining how GOOD I will feel when I'm done
    3) Using my beloved Time Timer visual timer for mini "house blessing" sessions instead of marathons
    4) Reminding myself that cleaning is EXERCISE (2 for 1! ; - )
    5) Keeping a log of how I feel before and after cleaning, and when looking at my clean or dirty house
    6) Really noticing and drinking in how GOOD it feels to live in a clean home : - )

    Regarding your flooding issue: I am no expert but do have a house with a water table right under it. (Like you, we did not realize this when we bought the house!) I think what you need is a sump pump. You should also have a generator for when the power is out for an extended time, and an extra sump pump in case your current one breaks.

    Cass, You can squeegee every time you finish in shower. It’s easier than u think. Before you get out of the shower, grab the squeegee that you have hanging in the shower. While standing squeegee across the glass. Then repeat for the lower part of the glass. Hang your squeegee back up inside the shower.
    This works on tiles too.

    I guess what I came up with (that's been working!) is a combination of "zone cleaner" and "weekend warrior". I tackle one floor a day every week. So for me, that works out as Monday is first floor, Wednesday is the basement (which is mostly for my hobby and less for cleaning, but I do clean it on that day as well on occasion!), and Friday is the upstairs - linens included! Then dishes and spot-cleaning are daily occurances. Laundry as needed. So yeah, it takes me a couple of hours on those three days... but then I have 4 days that are my flex/project/relaxation days. My particular flavor of neuro-spiciness can't jive with these sorts of cleaning schedules, because things have to be done a certain way, i.e. sweep followed immediately with a mop same-day as a combo, but that follows a "top down" cleaning to knock crumbs and dirt onto the floor first. And sometimes I really need some time doing absolutely nothing...! But so long as it gets done and things don't get ruined in the process, there's no wrong way to clean! Gonna have to try that Rain-X hack!

    I used to do daily jobs such as you did in your video when my kids were little and I was home all the time. I had different daily jobs, and then ended the day with a kitchen clean up, house tidy etc. I also found that I needed monthly, seasonal and yearly jobs as well, just to stay on top of things. It was so handy to have a 'checklist' of sorts to go by, to remind me of what needed to be done. Now that I'm older, work every day, I pretty much just clean up only what shows as untidy. My house is too big with just me and my husband. One of these days I will declutter my house to a smaller one.
