I always like to give credit to the two ladies who originated fly lady’s routines: Pam Young and Peggy Jones - Sidetracked Home Executives. They have since retired and Pam passed away.
Oh, that's so sad. At 22, I found their book at the dollar store, loved it, and my mom kept a pretty tidy house but never any sched routine and my 🍎 fell quite aways from the tree
The flylady gives Pam and Peggy credit for helping her get organized. I have their book, don’t think I would use the index cars they mention in the book.
I loved these two ladies and their system! I had all the cards and used them. I read the books over and over. So glad to know they were integral with the Fly Lady system!
No one ever seems to mention work - the fly lady one sounds like a full time job! The organised mum one seems a bit ambitious to ‘clean floors’ in 15 minutes a day 😳 I have a system of binge cleaning at the weekends, it’s not great but working plus kids clubs til late 5 days a week doesn’t leave much wiggle room!
The daily floor clean is just supposed to be a quick vacuum through high traffic areas. And the bathroom is just supposed to be one or two things each time, like one day the sink and toilet, the next day the shower, etc. And she always tells people it's not to be perfect.
Great video! Another one I would add is A Slob Comes Clean with Dana K White. She has a cleaning routine that is a task per day approach similar to Clean Mama except she also adds errands and groceries day and laundry day. She is best known for her decluttering advice but her cleaning routine is solid. As far as I can tell, in her system, deep cleaning is done depending on your energy levels and motivation rather than on a schedule.
Great video! I’m currently doing a mix of FL and CM. I love that there is so much support for homemakers now. I bet my mom would have loved to have all these resources back in the day. Wishing you a very Happy New Year! ❤
Because I’m a tad lazy and dont want to be cleaning every day, i love the home blessing on a Monday. I kinda need the strictness of FlyLady. Even though i do zone cleaning on one day rather than 15 mins a day. I hadn’t a clue when i started a few years ago. It’s perfect for complete beginners and kinda lazy people. I tell everyone who will listen. Im paying it forward! 🥰
I do Home Blessing combined with deep clean Zone cleaning ingredients one day, then for 4 days, I gocuse on weekly and monthly cleaning ingredients I brach zone. I give myself a break non-daily cleaning 2 days a week.
Nice video. Subscribed! I've tried all of these. I never stick with anything though. Right now I like TOMM but I also throw in practices from the other routines. I always start with dishes (per Dana K. White) then go on to do whatever routine is my flavor of the week. I figure as long as I'm cleaning it's all good! Also, someone commented on the Sidetracked Home Executives. I actually liked their index card system and their self titled book is a lot of fun.
I have since transitioned into just Fly Lady. But creating my own routines, habits and zones in place of the ones she has that don't apply or click for me, and keeping the ones that to click dor me that I really want or need to work on. A couple of differences I do are, are furst, Zone 5 is a flex Zone. I get to add up to 4 cleaning tsks or up to 4 non-cleaning things that got missed or that I really want to focus on during Zone 5 week. Also, I'm now looping the zones so that zones 5 and 1 will still get a full week. So I'm on a 5 week rotation. As for her Fly Lady Plus app, i absolutely love it! It's very easy to use and adapt to your own routines. I'm not always on the same zone or room as the app is since I loop my zones, but that's a very small con. Otherwise, it's a fantadtic app! I highly recommend it no matter whst system you're using.
Oh, I forgot another adjustment...zone 1 is my outside, and 2-4 are inside. And my outside is I. Major bootcamp. I made it zone 1 because by tge end of my rotation, things always happen that get in the way of me really giving it any significant attention. No system seems to address all the thongs that need to get done on the yard and outside area. I will build my daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal and rotating tasks lists for zone 1 once I feel I'm adequate a big enough dent into start thi king about what needs to get done and how often. I think on zone 1 week, I will be way more generous with tge amount of time for each job each day. That's an area of the home that takes way more than 2 hours a month, depending on the size of the property and what we each have going on in that area. That's one zone that I think would be very beneficial to body mind and spirit to spend in as often and as long as possible, because it's a good excuse to be outside.
I'm still using the Fly lady structure, but I' emphasizing more on the daily, weekly, and focus tasks, as well as de-cluttering (still). My daily tasks are plenty as it i i've decided to give each zone4 weeksforzone cleaning, and justworking in ea h zone when I'm able during that zones week. I figure I can get ore into the zone cleaning when when I feel I'm ready. Doing the daily stuff and and daily de-cluttering keeps me plenty busy
thank you for such a nice summary of all these methods/systems. I love the "Clean our Space" lady, yet her 3 wave system was new to me and oh so simple, thank you for sharing!
Great video! After trying clean mama and flylady, I love using a mix! Flylady zones just make sense to my brain but I don’t care for the daily focuses like car and bag day because they fall through the cracks. I would rather plug those into the weekly blessing. But I love the clean mama daily focus! One day for each big cleaning task like dusting or mopping works well when you’re busy :)
@@jessm4802 I like that she has 3 levels of cleaning and the way she breaks them down. You have level 1= daily, Level 2= weekly and level 3= are your rotating deep cleaning tasks. So, Monday-Friday, she has you do your Level 2 cleaning, in one zone each day. She strongly suggests keeping it to 30 minutes, even if you don't complete everything. Then Friday is your Focus day. On your Focus day, you spend 30 minutes in one Zone doing deep cleaning. Then then next week you do a different zone. She has her house broken up into 8 zones including the outside, so the Focus day zones rotate on an 8 week rotating schedule. You are not doing any level 2 or 3 cleaning on weekends. Those are the things I like about it. The cons for me are : some level 3 jobs actually need to be done once a month or more frequently than every 8 weeks. Also, while It's easy to pick up where you left off on level 2's if you miss something one week, you are waiting another 8 weeks to get back to a zone. So, my adjustments are: 1. I Have 4 zones, with the 4th one being the outside. 2. I have more than 8 areas or rooms in my house and 3 bathrooms, so the 3 zones each consist of 1 bathroom and at least 2 other rooms or areas, and zone 4 is the whole outside. 3. I have 4 levels of cleaning, where level 3 is monthly and level 4 is those seasonal or "I'll get to it when it's next on My list" jobs. 4. I do my Focus level 4 (technically level 3) cleaning on a 4 week rotation instead of an 8 week rotation. That way, if something gets missed, I know I'll be back in that zone in 4 weeks. Now, here's where Fly Lady comes in. My days off change every 1-2 months, so my week days on my master cleaning schedule are numbered. So, my Weekly Home Blessing hour is on the first day. What I do during MY Weekly Home Blessing is I spend the first 30 minutes in my level 4 Focus Zone for that week. Then the other 30 minutes or so, I wand dust the house (quick 10 minutes), touch up windows, mirrors, and hallway picture frames (10 minntes), toss our bed sheets in the wash (5 minutes- hubby changes them for me), and then I do a quick vacuum in the main public areas. So, during the week when I do my level 2 and 3 jobs, I just do one monthly job per Zone per day, then I do the weekly cleaning of the toilets and sinks in each bathroom, only focusing on one bathroom (whichever zone I'm in that day). Then I sweep and mop the floors on that zone. I rotate the monthly jobs, doing one per week. So, week one I do a 5-10 minute de-clutter in the assigned zone on Level 2 days. Week 2, I rag dust visible surfaces and rag clean kitchen counter tops, moving and cleaning the items on the counters (I just do quick wipe ups, no moving stuff daily). Week 3, I do a proper job on bathroom showers. And week 4 I do detailed vacuuming in each zone, one zone per day. I have mostly hard floors and pets who are terrified of the vacuum. So, I limit my vacuum to the 10 minutes per week. Then one week out of the month, I spend about 10 minutes per day for 3 days doing a zone per day. My floors get swep and mopped throughout the week. I have a hard time explaining it simply and briefly, but it really is a simple schedule. Other than the outside, which requires way more work (which is why I include it in my weekly zone cleaning schedule), I don't spend more than an hour a day 5 days a week on non-daily jobs. It would probably be closer to the suggested 30 minutes, except that I do some things the old way. We are a no paper towels house, so I have different cloths, towels and rags for different levels and types of cleaning jobs. And I hands and knee my floors. I only do that because my eye sight isn't what it used to be, and whenever I use any type of mop, I miss stuff. Plus, I use a cleaning rag, a rinsing rag and a drying towel as I go so it dries within a few minutes. So mopping takes a little longer, but the floors are ready to be used much faster. And I'm naturally not super fast, even when I'm racing to get things done lol. I'm sure the average speed person would be able to do my routines within the 30 minutes lol. The one thing that I think is missing from all or most of the cleaning systems is the attention needed in the yard and general outside area. I don't even think Fly Lady's system gives it enough focus. There's nothing in the routines that includes daily upkeep of the yard, or even weekly. Not all of us know the ins and outs of keep up with our yards, other than mowing the lawn lol. So, I'm still in poicess of figuring out exactly what my outside schedule will look like. Right now, it's in serious boot camp, and will be for quite some time lol But that's it. I like Tomm, because there is way more to weekly cleaning than what Weekly Home Blessing includes. I like focusing on one zone per day fir that level of cleaning. I also much prefer do my deeper cleaning on one 30 minute session per Zone per month, i stead of adding another 15 minutes of deep cleaning on top of my daily tasks each day. In fact, if I were to stop doing TOMM's 30 minute level 2 weekly cleaning, I would still kerp her level 3 30 minute focus per week, and be done with deep ckeaning for the week, after that 30 minutes.
I don’t understand why most of these routines never even mentioned dishes. That’s something that needs to be addressed several times a day. It seems to me like they’re trying to make the time spent on their method seem like a lot less. They say it takes 15 minutes a day, but they’re not counting dishes. I just can’t get past that. Thank you to fly lady for being so much more realistic.
Thank you for this. Great info & tips. I’ve tried Flylady‘s routines & found them ok but I found the daily focus really hard. For example, I don’t drive & my handbag is always organised, so I wouldn’t know what to do on a Friday. I like the sound of the one in the UK, as I’m British too & would be able to understand the words more than I do that US based ones.
Great video, thank you. You had mentioned another one "clean that place?". I would like to take a lot at that one, but cannot find it. Could you provide a link? Thank you very much! :)
