Oh my gosh, you are such an encouragement! My kids are much older now (4 kids, 18-12), but I still found your clean up so satisfying, especially the toys! Ahhhhh. 😁 And where were you 12, 13 years ago when mine were tiny like that?? Lol. I have recently found Flylady again, after trying her out years ago and it not working out. Lots more success this time around!

We went on vacation to Germany and our hotel had two duvets. We slept the best we ever have in 10 years of marriage. When we returned from vacation we set out to make our bed “like our Germany bed”. A trip to IKEA, my blanket thicket/warmer than his. We have been sleeping like that for 3 years and love it! I didn’t know it had a name, the two blanket method.

Your little ones are top priority. Please don't worry about getting everything perfect. I love seeing people who I can relate to. Life happens. Messes happen. No worries at all. 😊 I loved seeing your little boy helping you put the silverware away when you were unloading the dishwasher. He was just throwing the silverware in the drawer with no organization but he was learning and I could tell he was so happy to be helping mama. You're doing great and I love watching your videos no matter if it's perfect or not. You've got a sweet soul and it comes through every video. Blessings to you and your family!!

We have 4 hundred year old toilets in our home and I was dreading doing the swish and swipe everyday, UNTIL someone suggested when you need to “go” use a different bathroom and then do swish and swipe. The crazy thing is I am still doing all 4 toilets but it doesn’t feel so dreadful, it’s pairing an activity at it’s pest😉

Thank you for sharing your day Steph! It is always helpful! I think the biggest takeaway I always get from your videos is just to do some stuff. Do some stuff, stop overthinking, it will make a difference, you can get more done than you think in a few minutes, and things will be better.

  • @juliab628
    @juliab628 2 года назад +17

I think the best thing is that you always have a positive attitude no matter what! Attitude is so important! You really do know how to put things into perspective and I admire that you include your kids in cooking so that they will learn how to do this when they have grown up even if it does cause a bigger mess... It is worth it because they are learning in the process. I think with the other things such as the toys that you are having to pick up though, if you just reduce the inventory and kept far less toys, you would have such an easier time tidying. I saw another friend whose children each had a b i n of their own things and there was a specific place for that b i n to slide into. I wish I'd known about that when our kids were little. Back then, I kept so many things and it was overwhelming to them and so much of it was rarely played with. They seemed to always choose the same items anyway. Less really is more and it makes your life so much easier!
But truly I would say, keep staying true to yourself and never lose your positive attitude! These are great qualities and remember to keep listening to your intuition as far as your Channel. If God is asking you to step back and take a breather, It's all good and you're doing awesome!!!

That is TMHOROUGHLY AMAZING for that age. You have a natural problem solutions engineer living amongst you. Wow, wow, wow!!!!!
Sending vour family virtual hugs and actual well wishes. ❤❤❤❤ ☺ ❤❤❤❤👍

For my girls’ drawers, I do the Kon Mari folding method. Works great and they can see everything without destroying the drawer. If they mess up the drawers, MOM gets to pick their outfit for the day and they do not like that so they keep them tidy.

It will help you if each bedroom has a basket for dirty clothes inside the closet door. This way, no dirty clothes go on the floor ever. It will also help to have five to six hooks on the closet door to hold pajamas and bathrobes, or outfits that are not dirty enough yet to go in the laundry basket. Each person takes their full basket to the laundry when its their day to do their laundry. If and when they are old enough to carry the basket! Also a rule: nothing ever goes on the floor! It disrespectful to mommy and daddy's hard-earned money. "A place for everything and everything in its place." Your kids will bless you when they are grown up.

That is the main thing that has helped me with the FlyLady cleaning routine, the message that its okay to not be perfect. Before I would feel defeated if I didn't have enough time to perfectly clean, but giving myself permission to just do 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there, makes my house visibly cleaner, and its not perfect, and that is okay! Perfection isn't tied to our moral ability. We shouldn't strive for perfection, just to do the best we can do. Even if you cant do it perfectly, its still worth doing.

Sometimes I’m so sad that I didn’t have children, but then i see the mess and I know God knew that I couldn’t handle it. I would get way too stressed out and would have to follow behind my kids cleaning up after them. That’s just how I am. My oldest sister is so calm and goes with the flow and is like Steph, good enough is good enough. However, sometimes unfortunately for me, it has too be perfect at all times and it can be SO exhausting!! I love being an Aunt though!!

It was neat to see what you got done in a day and honestly it looks a lot like ours. Batching tasks is something I like to do as well. Don’t feel some kind of pressure or obligation to make DITL videos. I can only imagine the camera maneuvering and conversations required to get the content that you did. I think it’s commendable that you are protecting your kiddos’ and your husband’s privacy. My husband would be the same way. 💚

You have been such an inspiration to me, thank you! My house is already so much cleaner because of you 😃
I have watched several of your videos recently, and I wonder, how come you (or the flylady system) change zones every week? I am just trying to make sense of not finishing a zone in the time I assign to zone cleaning because I tend to only want to move on to the next zone when all the boxes have been checked in one zone.
Also, how do people clean that don't use this system? 😂 it's a genuine question to everyone, because I have never really known how to clean and lists with check boxes seem very reasonable to me now 😅🤣
    Greetings from Germany 🤗🌻

Embrace imperfection. Thank you Steph, I think you're delivering the kind of message all women need to hear. FlyLady was a gift from heaven when I found it, and its key concept of 'good enough'. I was totally blocked by the idea of having to clean things perfectly, which never seemed to happen for me. Once you embrace the concept of 'good enough', everything just seems easier. If it is clean enough, then it's clean. Even the most perfectly clean room starts to get dirty as soon as your cleaning is done, so... Thank you for being so candid and honest with your audience, this is why we love you. And I totally understand that you want to protect your children from social media exposure. Fewer videos is fine by me, if it's the only way for you to manage and protect your family. Take care!

Hello from Texas. I think showing real life is the point. And I admire you for choosing your son over YT. They grow up in the blink of an eye, these moments are so precious. I find your video motivating because you keep things real and your house doesn't have to be perfect. Thank you for sharing.

Brilliant video Steph. I like that you have a relaxed attitude and know you will get normally get the important things done by the end of the day. Everyone needs a break from routine from time to time. I hoped you had a great time curling. You just jumped back in where you are the next day and it all turns out great because you have a plan. I think you’re amazing and very inspirational! I completely understand not wanting your kids in your videos. Personally, I like how you show us what you can then talk us through the rest that you don’t necessarily show. Thanks for being you!

Thank you! I used this video to inspire me to get off the couch and go empty/refill the dishwasher! It's not perfect, but it is better! And having your video playing in the background was just what I needed!

I love that you’re finding balance! I make videos and keep my kids and husband out of it too. It’s a bit of a challenge when they’re usually so involved! Keep it up! I love how natural you made your video!

I love how honest and relatable you are. I understand not wanting your children on your videos because of privacy. But it was really nice to see each of them helping in their ways. This is what real life is like, and how they learn from you. My kids are teens now but seeing your son help you reminded me of my daughter when she was the same age and how she would help me around the house. Good memories. Love you keeping it real. Helps others who watch your videos for support to not beat them selves up.

I personally like seeing your real day! It helps me realize that I’m doing fine if it’s not “perfect.”
I actually started to 21 days to a clean home that you came up with. Then the whole family got sick and I totally abandoned it. But I’m feeling like I can try again!😄

Thank you for bringing us along for your DITL! And thank you for confirming that good enough is good enough! You're so positive and encouraging - I love that. =)
I understand you not wanting to have your kids in your videos. Check out Jar of Fireflies - Chana has three kids and she homeschools so her days are all about her kids, but you don't see their faces. I'm not sure how difficult it is for her to film in this way, but she makes it look easy. lol

It was helpful, and I do love these videos. You're right it's okay not to be perfect, but the same goes for your videos too! If you need to cut off filming to accommodate your kids - then that's what has to happen. I bet you can find other ways to film around that. E.g. Film as much as you can and then do a couple before and after shots of the task and explain what you did. 🤷‍♀️ or move the camera so that it's only the back of their heads in the shot (tho easier said than done with little ones 🤪)

Hi Steph, I love your videos. I was totally slob wife/mum even worse than you (believe or not!) until I found your RUclips.
I have a question. What do you do when you are sick for more than a couple of days almost all the time in bed. I’ve had really bad migraine for few days and it’s long weekend (and isolating a week additional) here in Australia. My husband and kids are home, I’m in bed, my house is upside down.
    I need help!!!!!
    Thanks
    Mari

Oh man, sick weeks are the worst. I try my best to keep up with dishes and laundry and let the rest fall apart. Call in backup if you need it, or slowly work on it once your energy is back up!

I love watching your videos. Your kids are absolutely your priority and it makes perfect sense to keep them private (for the most part.) We’ll all still keep watching whatever style of videos you prefer to do in this phase of your life.
I’m so glad to see about the two blankets. My husband and I have strongly been considering switching. We have cats (our kids are in colleges) who like to sleep with us and the single blanket has been a struggle with the cats. Do you have two twins size or two full? Also, do you still share a top sheet?
