    I have heard of the 12/12/12 method, but always rejected it as not making a big enough difference. But times change. I don't have the energy l used to. Your explanation of forming a habit/routine really appeals to me. I will give it a whirl!

    Decluttering my kitchen countertops has helped me tremendously! Even without actually throwing anything away, I have made a habit of removing from the kitchen countertops anything which I am not going to use again for the next 4 hours and storing it in a cabinet or drawer, even the coffee maker. I was raised by a wonderful woman who is a professional procrastinator, and I cannot count the number of times I heard her say "Leave that for the morning!" when referring to dirty dishes! UGH! I detest waking up to a dirty kitchen, so, even if the rest of my home looks like a tornado has just moved through it, the kitchen must be clean before I go to sleep. The energy I feel in the morning when I walk into my clean-clean-clean kitchen has helped me start de-cluttering other rooms and closets. My utility closet now looks like something from a magazine. I removed a shelf which had prevented me from storing taller cleaning items, and that one change has been very helpful, allowing things to be neat, and I actually enjoy opening the door to get cleaning supplies! My bathrooms are falling into line too, (so many old "beauty creams" and junk---gone!), and the counters are clean! I even fold my towels in the linen closet so the fold faces forward, hiding the messy edge. Now I automatically fold the towels this way--so easy to do, no extra work and I smile a bit when I open the closet because it looks so nice! I shall next tackle my clothes (already threw out old shoes, except for a gorgeous pair of high heel dress sandals, which I never wear because I can't walk in them, still hoping for a volunteer to carry me while I wear them). If I don't like the clothes, they will go. I will NOT list3en to my mother's advice to keep clothes to "wear around the house". If they aren't nice enough to wear to the grocery store, they are not nice enough for me to keep. I wear a nice apron when cooking, and I will get another for cleaning. No one has suggested starting your de-cluttering campaign with the kitchen counters, but it worked for me. Someday I will dive a bit deeper and toss out old, unused pots and pans, then clothes, then stuff in the garage. There is still a long way to go, but every morning, I enjoy my clean kitchen! Best wishes everyone!!

    For me, the No Mess method has been the only one to ever work. With any other, I get overwhelmed, discouraged, fed up, and ultimately only get halfway through before I shove everything back into the closet or drawer from whence it came. With No Mess, I can do a little at a time and it only ever looks better in the end.

    Imagine a person who grew up in the foster kid system, being bounced around from one place to the next, never really having a chance to build relationships with anyone who might be able to teach them all those skills, concepts, habits, and techniques that successful parents take the intentional time to teach their children as they're growing up... that person then ages out of the system, goes on to college and lives in the dorms because that's the best option for a roof over their head, but they're so far behind that they do their best to catch up, but they don't know what they don't know so they don't know the right questions to ask and the right places to look for help. They then graduate and get into their 30's and 40's and still feel so far behind because they just never got those foundational life lessons that so many other kids grow up getting, let alone, the life lessons many learn in college because they were set up so well for success by their parents before they even got there... so they're still behind and still struggling. THAT is me - and THAT is thousands of other people, believe it or not. What I would give to see you put together a complete video series that really digs in deep, starts with the basics, and then works its way up to learning how successful adults set themselves up for a well prepared and prosperous life. What are the habits they do each day? How do they organize they life and themself too? What do successful people know about money that poor people don't seem to get? What are those things successful people do differently that set them apart? I think you get where I'm going... I would sure love to see you do a full complete video series on basically, how to adult and how to adult successfully - there are so many more people out there who need this just as much as I do. I'm just the only one saying it. Any chance you'd be willing to do something of that nature? I'd sure be grateful if you did. (I need a step by step kind of game plan... I missed it all growing up.)

    I'm a big adherent of the "onion" method, even though I've never used this term before. Telling myself, this is the first pass, or the second pass, helps me not to spend time fretting about items I'm not sure about, and just to clear out those things I am sure about in that moment. And each pass helps me, and motivates me, to do more passes, with a rest period of a few weeks or months between passes. I've also made it a rule not to accumulate any more things. And yes, the mindset of death cleaning really helps.

    I use a mixture, daily the no mess. 5 minutes while you make a hot drink is great as you are rewarded with the drink. At least weekly a mini core of a small area combined with tidying cleaning, but the one that makes the most impact is a full core, especially if you clear a whole room, is to deep clean, and, or, redecorate and only put back what you really want and need using minimalist, koni mari and 2010 combined. If you can organise things into groups and put them away out of sight, displaying only a few chosen pieces it helps. You can always rotate these. Square things up and group colours to make more look less. Notice what you actually use and need and how long it's likely to last. Work out what you could use instead if you don't keep it. Store replacements logically so you don't forget and buy more.

    If you’re crafty you can make gift bags from old maps. A few years ago I made small gift bags from my husband’s old road atlas pages. They were small but could still hold a nice gift and since they were laminated they were waterproof. They sold well at craft shows and people would look for certain cities or states.

    Start with a very clear picture of what you want the space to look like. If you are unmotivated, practice focused five cleaning - set a timer for five minutes and go!

  • @ArtisticEclectic
    @ArtisticEclectic 24 дня назад

    I appreciate the reminder to Clarify, as we can lose sight over time to our true "why," and maybe just have a general idea that things are too messy or whatever. But maybe "less messy" isn't motivational enough. Or just clear enough. Less messy might mean removing 5 or 10% of the items from a space. Depending on what's decided through getting Clarity (going back to how you actually want the space to function and feel) could mean that, or that you need to remove 90% of the stuff from a space. Or that... Meanwhile, as a writer, Edit makes seeks to me in conjunction, as you might leave it edit or very different amounts of information, etc., from a document or speech, depending on the audience, the event (including finished length), and the specific topic or goal chosen. What remains after an edit for a 5-minute speech to adults, a 5-minute talk for kids or a 2-hour lesson to adults would each be very different. Lastly, I'm very much a Dana K. White No Mess Declittering girl. While Konmari sounds nice, I'd be overwhelmed and worse off, losing gusto and losing ground. But Dana makes so much sense with her two questions and take-it-there-now approach, making progress and only progress, whether a little or a lot.

    I have tried several of these. Dana's take it there now and procrasticlutter have been very helpful. Getting my habits back to maintain has been a struggle. My goal is not to declutter. My goal is to love the way my house looks when I get up and when I come home from work. No yuck, no oh no what a mess what a disaster. I want to fall in love with my home again. I think I will check out Minimalista. Not a total minimalist but I don't like tons of things everywhere. That is overwhelming for me. We all have to find what works for just us. Trial and error and lots of patience on our journeys.

    When I say this, it’s going to sound a little New Agey, but I’m totally not that. I find that if I go with where my energy is, I get quite a bit done. Sometimes, that means flitting around like a butterfly, discarding one thing here, picking up one thing there. It makes a small difference at first, but the more I do it, everything starts to look cleaner and more organized. I realize must people can’t declutter that way, but sometimes it works for me. Other times, I focus on just one area. It all depends on what I feel like doing. Please don’t hate me if you disagree.

    My home and all possessions burned in a wildfire in 2007. All my old family photos-my wedding photos-all the things my husband and I collected throughout our [ at that time 43 year marriage]. We had good insurance and rebuilt. I had insurance $$ to shop and buy clothes/shoes/purses/household goods/furniture and I over bought. % years later my husband died and I shopped and bought clothing as a distraction for my grief. A year ago I began taking things to a re-sale non-profit but I have so much more to do! I HAVE GOT to declutter faster! Last night, I wrote down 9 areas in my home that need decluttering and am glad I came across your informative video.
