Comparing 5 CLEANING ROUTINES! | Flylady, Clean Mama, Motivated Moms, Organised Mum, 3 Wave Cleaning
Our garage holds woodworking tools, mechanic tools, bikes, a freezer, landscaping business items, seasonal decor, and kids’ toys that the adult sons will get when they are finished with college. We’ve never been able to use the garage for cars.
I have that same bird wallpaper but in my laundry room.
I try to get rid of things and my husband rescues it.
I loved hearing the story about the little toddler coats your Mom kept! So sweet! 💓 I kept my Gramma’s pink quilted robe and wore it until I had to pitch it … it was a great comfort to me and helped me through the grieving process. ❤️
My home and all possessions burned in a wildfire in 2007. All my old family photos-my wedding photos-all the things my husband and I collected throughout our [ at that time 43 year marriage]. We had good insurance and rebuilt. I had insurance $$ to shop and buy clothes/shoes/purses/household goods/furniture and I over bought. % years later my husband died and I shopped and bought clothing as a distraction for my grief. A year ago I began taking things to a re-sale non-profit but I have so much more to do! I HAVE GOT to declutter faster! Last night, I wrote down 9 areas in my home that need decluttering and am glad I came across your informative video.
❤❤❤❤ container stem and donation box method
Just subscribed, enjoying the content! Cheers …
Some people have emotional issues that block them from decluttering. I suggest journaling and maybe getting professional help.
HAVE WE ALL GONE MAD .. WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO. JUST SHOW US WHAT YOU DO IN ACTION WE DO NOT NEED TO HEAR YOU TALK AND TALK OK AND THE VIDEO RETAKES. WHY
Hire a private company to remove all your stuff.
Pull out what you like, wear, and use first. Then everything left can go!
I had Marie Kondo's book. It did not spark joy, so I tossed it.
Thanks for your video. I listen to decluttering videos when I'm doing my morning routine. My preferred decluttering method is what I learned from my mother. She Was an executive secretary for a large company. She wrote down the target goals that needed to be done and /the routines for every day were make the bed( before she went to work) Children made their own beds when old enough. Her most memorable organization I ever learned from her was put things back where you got it from after using it. You didn't just use the scissors and leave them where you last used them . Dishes were loaded into the dishwasher or washed by hand after EVERY meal. No sink had dishes in it when we went to bed . She looked over the living room before going to bed and anything that didn't belong in the living room was put away. She didn't procrastinate cleaning out or house work. She had leisure time and always knew where everything was . My problems with decluttering is Procrastination. I know what to do but get distracted by interruptions or daily necessary chores. I'm recently just decluttering obvious things when I'm using that room...old makeup when I'm putting on makeup. Expired food when I'm in the kitchen. But I use no more than 5 to 10 minutes. I could never clean out by dumping out everything on the floor. It's a recipe for disaster for me.
I am decluttering my second bedroom first thing I had to do was make a path so I could get in there then I just started putting stuff in boxes that I haven’t used in 20 years maybe and then I started asking people do you need this? would you like to have this? I have three printers and now I have given them away because somebody wanted them a lot of stuff went to somebody that needed it a lot of stuff went to some place. They gonna probably sell it for somebody that needs it. I was so skeptical at first of giving away memories that I haven’t looked at in 20 years. It was time for those memories to really go because they were no longer memories. They were in the way and I’m going there every day and I put something in a box and it’s I can walk in the room now. So I’m having to look at stuff and not see memories that don’t mean anything anymore. I’m not giving away memories that a family that someone in the family might need that memory but memories don’t always make you happy and they’re going. My kids are grown and they’ve told me what they wanted. Well, it’s time to come get it and also if you have to sit down and cry and say, why did I let it get like this? Why am I given this away? Think about where you’d put it and if you really need it in your life still because if it’s in a garage or if it’s in a closet, you don’t need it and that’s how I’m looking at things in a box in the closet if it’s in a storage bin in the closet if it’s just in a corner and I didn’t know what was in the box I don’t need it cause if I did, I’ll be using it That’s how I look at cleaning out now where do I need to put it and most of the time I don’t need to put it anywhere except in that box I’m giving away.
You are way over complicating this, what you originally described as rage decluttering is the way to go. All of these silly organizational strategies seem like just another extension of the OCD that led to the cluttering to begin with.
I am so happy I find your videos!❤
That book was so helpful and funny!
I needed to hear this!!!
I need 30/30 lol
Dana K White is my gal! So many times I’ve dragged out a ton of stuff, only to get tired or interrupted, then wine up with an even bigger mess. I also advocate the 20/10 method.
The key to the children’s clothes (other than a small wardrobe, since anyway they grow constantly) is organizing the clothes from the beginning by size/age and separate each category (I used cloth bags and put inside a paper that says what size the clothes are). It was a lifesaver that I did that when my eldest was growing, once number two came around, I knew exactly where to get the clothes I needed. On the cords my only criticism is that the idea of “you can buy it later again if needed” is okey only if you don’t overdo it. If you’ve held onto said cords for 5-10 years, definitely consider getting rid of them or giving them away if they’re functional. The idea of “I’ll just buy it again if I needed it” isn’t great in the context of how our society overall overspends. Spend wisely and declutter as wisely as you can!
January 24 I decided I would fill a bag a week to donate, give to "someone" or throw away. I've stuck to it and have even had two bags some weeks. One week bedroom closet, another week kitchen stuff never used and so on. My husband joined in and we have made great headway. Now the bag may not be filled in two or three weeks however we will continue until we are at the point we feel comfortable wth our "stuff" in our home.
I used a variation of the 20/10 method to kickstart a large organizing challenge. Fifteen minutes of sorting then a cup of tea from the pot I prepared before beginning this process. Repeat. I was surprised by how much I accomplished in a reasonable amount of time.
My mom used the S.H.E. method back in the ‘80’s. My mom never did conquer her clutter habit, tho she sure did try. But the best she ever did was definitely following that program. The little I know about Fly Lady does seem to be based on that program. I do love the advice to get up and get totally dressed first thing in the morning. However, we do not wear shoes in our home. Such filth lives on your shoes 🤢. Anyhow, I just love how each of these people have little methods and tweaks on cleaning your home. Personally, I love Clutterbug
Thanks for sharing! I've recently discovered your channel. Do you still use the index card system?
I love your channel! Your explanations are clear, and you don't overwhelm the listener with "extra" information. You know how to stick to your topic well. This is the second video of yours I've watched. I was already familiar with some of the methods you discuss but learned some new ones. Will watch more of your videos. Thank you!
I had 2 different majors in college that ended up not being what I settled on doing with my life, but those majors represent years of my life, and the second major for a long time I thought about going back and finishing, but that era of my life is now over. What I learned in all of that studying did end up really helping me with my career, but I have these books from those paths not taken. Now, I look at these books, and it is so hard to get rid of them, but I also see no value in keeping them and I feel I am keeping them because of negative reasons rather than positive reasons.
It’s totally understandable!
more cleaning routines like this please😊😊

I’m so like throw this crap OUTTA HERE ugh
You’re not alone! 😊
We move a lot so I’ve gotten a little more ruthless with getting rid of stuff with each move.
Moves are magic in that way!
Dear parents! When Your kids are very good behaviour all the time and always taking good care of their things, keeping their rooms very clean, loving their favorite things and want to make nice childhood collections of their things: books, clothes, toys, video games, clothes, DVDs and etc, then donataing is very wrong thing to do. If You have few space then storage boxes and shelves will help You out and Your kids will be very happy and thankful then, if they can keep their favourite things. Childhood things are very valuable and it is very sad, if they won’t see them anymore in their life. Every child should have the right to keep their things, if they can take good care of them all the time!!! Respectfully, Astra Viil ☺️🙏❤
Keep Doing 12-12-12. then 8-8-8. then 4-4-4. then 1-1-1. Then Stop. Think If Your Mind says Enough. Then Go with 1-in-1 Out Policy.
Best method? Just get started!!!
Truth! 🙌😃
Oh Yeah... Life's short, Talk fast.
Ended up doing the minimalists packing party with my kitchen. It wasn't intended but we packed up the kitchen for renovation. When it was done I decided I wasn't just going to pull it all back out again, we pulled items as we needed them and parted with the rest after about 6 weeks. There were of course items we don't use very often and did still keep, thankfully a lot of items we were able to think of multi uses for so could let go of almost all the single use items. My set up is really functional, everything I use daily is within a side step of the cooker. We have what we refer to as the seldom used cupboard, which houses the cookware we still want and do use, just not often enough to give it prime space.
I love this! A renovation is a great opportunity to do the packing party! 😊
Where did you get your apron? I love it!
Oh man, Etsy?? I think…sorry, it’s been awhile! 😂
I'm so jealous of that snow village!! Those are super collectible and complete sets sell for good $$$
more cleaning motivation videos please😊😊
What about books signed by the author? Do you have any suggestions? I have some signed nonfiction books that I could see myself reading again because the information in them was great! But I have others that I don't see myself reading the book again, but just looking at the book brings back that memory of when I met Jane Goodall and got to chat with her and she signed my book with a note specific to me at the time (i.e. more than just a signature).
For myself, if it was something sentimental like that (more than “just a book”), I’d be inclined to hold onto it! That’s just me, though. 😊
I am certainly in a different season than you, but it could work! Repeat. Repeat. That’s it. I loved when you said ‘instead of blubbering away’ with how your husband could help, just say, here…do this!
Yeah! 😃🙌
The onion method! I use it, and now I have a name for it. Thank you! 😊
You bet! 😊
My whole house is filled with piles of things I don't know what to do with.... 🙄😬
It can be such a challenge! But you’re not alone, it’s worth persevering. ❤️
I can relate to the Christmas village that was my mother’s. She put it up for years. I kept it for years and my grandchildren enjoyed it for a few years but it is time consuming. I pared down from 9 to 4. I kept the best. Able to set up on 2 end tables. Same with her Hummels 28 to one that represents my older brother and myself. I tried to sell ended up with about $2 figurine. Lost lots of time with that. Candlewick glassware from 50s. I kept 12 donated 58. Now I’m a senior citizen and don’t want to pose this on my children. I kept enough for memories and some in use every day. Just found your channel today.
Wow, thank you for sharing this! ❤️
House hushing is from The Cozy Minimalist book. I highly recommend it.
Is that where it originated?! Thank you! I need to check out that book, I love her first book! 😊
Kids clothes: when our kids were little, we periodically did a thing where we put aside the clean laundry and it forced them to wear their non-favorites until we had worked through all of their clothes. It brings out the stuff that they dont like or are too small because once their favorites arent an option, all the stuff they dont wear is whats left
Fantastic idea! 😃
Great ideas ☺️👍
I agree with getting rid of even a treasured memory of your grandmother. You kept one piece and that held your connection to that memory enough. But, I have to wonder about her other grandchildren. Are you the only one? I'm guessing so, OR she blessed the others with equally treasured tangible memories.
Yes, we all got to speak up for what we wanted to hold on to. ❤️
I had a shoe box full of maps on my shelf just like yours. lol Finally got rid of it a few years ago.
Yay! 😊
Dana K White's NO MESS method and her CONTAINER method. Works every time! I also in my mind use the Swedish Death Cleaning because I don't want to leave my kids a MESS to take care of, so I am decluttering continually. Thanks for inspiring us!
I chose the room by room decluttering, spacing each room several days. I did a massive declutter upon moving five years ago, so now it is spring and fall incl closets much goes to group homes in area. Laura Ann
Love this! Dana K White has had such an impact on so many of us! 😊
I only just discovered Dana K Whites method when looking up ideas for a friend. I think this is definitely the way to start, you're only just building your decluttering muscles decision fatigue is real - with this method you can just walk away from the space when you feel overwhelmed. I'll add if you are just starting out, set up a trash bin with bags in it and a donation box in each room. Everytime you are in that room and happen to discover trash or something you no longer want it has a place it can go. Decluttering is then happening outside your designated decluttering times too. The multiple bags in trash bin allows you to tie it up and set up a new one quickly.
I'm thrilled it works for you.. for me, not so much. I think it's a waste of time taking items where they go, coming back and doing it all over again. My method has never ever failed me and I never get irritated with it. Wasting time and energy are never on my list of things to do.
