We were gifted a 7qt crock pot for our wedding. It was too large for just husband & me, but the perfect size for my parents who still have 5 children living at home! We re-gifted it to my mom & she got us a smaller 3 qt one that takes up less space and doesn’t leave us with huge amounts of leftovers. So far I’m happy with our decision 😊

I’ve seen several RUclipsrs say you should throw away your instruction manuals because they always go online to look up what they need if they have a problem or question. I never go online for that type of stuff when I have the manual. It’s easier for me to find the information in the manual than to do a search online. To each his own, but I’m keeping my manuals.

I keep all mine too. I have them all contained in an accordion file holder by category😬It certainly doesn’t take up much space and I have the space. I LOVE to include the manual if I end up donating something! And the built-ins will have all their manuals when I sell the house!😂🤣

Keep mine in the filing cabinet in a folder called instructions 😂 just looked at the one for my brand new washing machine to deep fill, because it's like flying an airplane to use the new washing machines 😂 used to throw the clothes in and turn them on with small medium and large load, now the top locks on you, it senses, takes twice the time to wash, hardly wets the clothes, did not work well with the bleach, I now have a dalmatian look towel 😂🤣

True story: I was visiting my sister and helping her her clean and organize her house and no joke at the bottom of her sons who was 10 at the time was 10 belts for his dress pants which he only wore on Sundays to church. She kept buying more because she/he could never find them. They were all at bottom of closet under a pile of clothes. This is why you need to go through your stuff often!!!

Good for you, I never felt I could introduce the concept of Swedish Death Cleaning to my Mum. She was a real clothes hoarder and nik nak collecter. We are now struggling to get rid of all her clothes, obscene amounts that she hasn't worn. I hope your kids appreciate how helpful you are being, especially as you still love your stuff but have accepted that some reducing in amount is required. Ex

I recently created a folder in my phone gallery where I save pictures of my kids' artwork. I get to look at the pictures long after the paper versions are gone. I show them the pictures as they get older which helps us all appreciate the before and still have space for the now. As for other things around the house, I have ALOT to declutter, getting there!😊

Ooo, Gilmore Girls 😍 I got the entire series from a library sale for like...idk...20 bucks a couple years ago? It takes up a TON of room but until we have money for the big, compact version, it's fine. I *make* room!!
We are the same, btw. No TV or streaming. Everything we watch is DVDs or VHS tapes (yes, really) that we own or we borrow from the library. We are working on watching all of the ones we own to see if we like them enough to keep.

I have an Instant Pot and I decluttered my crockpot! Then I realized my IP "crockpot" wasn't big enough for my crockpot recipes - so I had to repurchase one! Oops! lol! Mind you, the crockpot is the ONLY item I have decluttered through the years that I repurchased!
I DO save my large empty boxes - for my recycling. I toss all of my smaller items to recycle into the larger box. Once I month, I drive to my local recycle center and toss it in the bin!

A little story: A SIL of mine obtained some pallets and two structured tents (the kind people park cars under when they don't have a garage) and had my husband set them up in her backyard during his vacation so she could (wait for it...) store empty boxes she will need if she has to return the products that came in them -- much she no longer owned. Winter in Colorado turned all the boxes to mush. Undaunted, she had my husband spend more vacation time to toss those and spend hours in the sun readjusting the tents for what turned out to be empty cardboard boxes. A year later, she asked him to do the same thing because...cardboard/snow. He did not comply because of the definition of insanity.

I have decluttering the cabinet in my bathroom. It’s just the old metal cabinet that I got. It was full of old medicine vitamins just stuff that I put in there but now since I’ve watched you, I’m going in there tomorrow morning and I’m going to take everything out because I can put it if I need it under the sink in that bathroom which I’m sure there’s stuff under the sink that needs to be thrown out. I know there is. I’m going to the cabinet under the sink in the kitchen and throw all that away which I have no telling.. and also I’m getting rid of the cabinet in the bathroom. clean out the bathroom cabinet under the sink in my bedroom, but I’m recheck that again and then I’m gonna start in my closet. There’s not many clothes I can throw away cause I don’t have that many anymore cause I already done that and I’m going through the China cabinet, and get rid of all the little knickknacks they have no meaning anymore that are collecting dust. and decluttering my pots and pans which I might declutter the rest of them, which is a good idea cause I don’t cook anymore. I’m single older female and I hate cooking now. No big meals for me. Thank you for the reminder of getting rid of stuff so when it’s time for my kids to clean out they won’t be anything much to get rid of. and I take all my stuff declutter to a animal shelter has a resale store that sells all this stuff and the money goes for the animals and that’s the way I give back all the fur babies.❤❤❤❤❤❤

Remember social media makes things look easy!
If you are overwhelmed, you're perhaps at the beginning of your decluttering journey, start by simply putting a trash bin/container (with a roll of bags inside) into each room. This is there now so that anytime you are in that room and find rubbish it has somewhere to go right away. When full, that bag comes out, gets tied up, replaced with a new one and taken out of the house immediately.
Also into each room put a donation box, again, anytime you handle something in that room you no longer want, and it is in a condition to donate pop it in that box. Once full get it out of the house! That way you can make a little progress each day.
Remember it probably took years and years to accumulate the excess! It'll take a while to get rid of it appropriately too!

But I am being very picky on which ones I am keeping but once Christmas is over the boxes will be leaving.

Clothes that I bought for my fantasy self, and ones I bought a size too small thinking I'd slim into them. I need to get rid of them, but it's hard. I aim to have a capsual wardrobe, but that's going to cost money. Argh. I'm pretty ruthless with everything else though.

    • @aflourishingplace

    • @katie7748
      @katie7748 Месяц назад +2

I did that over the years too, thinking I'd never fit them again. I wasn't huge by any means, but I certainly wasn't a Skinny Minnie anymore. I just had padding. Haha. Well, fast forward to me accidentally losing weight and I'm really glad I kept a few things for "maybe someday." A good chunk of it is actually too big :-/ I am going through everything and I'm boxing up things I like that are too big for the provable inevitability that I gain at least some weight back. It's proven too hard and too much of a hassle to go out and buy secondhand. Especially when you live in a place that doesn't have many secondhand clothing stores. Sure, I could sew my own, but again...TIME. And I'd need fabric and thread, which can get costly.
That said, I'm certainly not keeping all of it. I'm limiting myself because I've only got so much room to store stuff. All of my clothes fit in probably 6 or so big boxes. My goal is 3 or 4 by the time we move again. Wish me luck lol

Dont throw out old bed sheets, blankets and toweling. I also have friends with children who do a lot of camping and they prefer taking old towels and bedding along. Animal rescue centers always need them. During Covid, I pared down my canning jars by half by donating them to thrift stores. They were so happy to get them as new ones were very expensive and in short supply. I do a big declutter two or three times a year. But my best method is simply not buying much new.

Old towels came in handy for a plumbing backup that exploded all over the basement. And again when the water heater needed a new doohickey. And for an overflowed toilet that flooded the bathroom, hallway, and went down the floor vent into the basement before we could stop it. And for cleaning up midnight stomach upsets, covering plants when it's too cold, and many MANY other things. That said, I think we might have too much surplus. The extra extras are going in bins to give to our children so they'll have them. I've already got bins of kitchen utensils, blankets, all kinds of things to get them started when they get to that point.
If you can't find a humane society to take them, try nearby homeless shelters, battered women's shelters, churches and local schools might be able to discreetly help those in need. If nothing else, put in a box at the end of your driveway (if you have one).

Oh my gosh! I want to get rid of our crock pot but my husband won't let me. I have even pointed out that his insta pot slow cooks, but he still won't let me get rid of it. Why? Because it's a different shape. What?!

My husband love the crock pot said he knows exactly what and how to put into it. I have the Instant Pot that we both love for items I cook in it. We also have now an air fryer and my electric skillet that I have had for years, I am starting to wonder if I really need my stove oven, oh wait I fry eggs on the stove top.

Sorry you should keep your instruction manual. Only get rid of it when you throw away the item.
