Pro tip from someone with chronic illness: say the words "I'd like it noted that I asked for this test and you said no" and most doctors will then order the test for you. Advocating for yourself is so hard. So it helps to have your words ready beforehand. This whole video was GREAT!!

I love this tip because I feel like I am constantly having to advocate for myself with my doctor. Advocating for yourself is great but when you feel like you always have to do it its irritating. I don't feel like I'm taken seriously half the time because my doctor questions my concerns almost every appointment and its very irritating. Most doctors i've had in the past, who were wonderful, either relocated or retired and they would hear my concerns and knew how to help me without asking why or asking me what I think I have etc.

My husband passed away recently. I am moving from our home of 44 years. It is a huge endeavor. I am sorting and purging as I pack. I think my future self is going to thank me for this method of packing. I will say, Packing and moving is no joke and I’m getting tire.

I went through a similar thing when my husband passed away a few years ago. It was painful to get rid of some things, but in retrospect, I have a perspective on things. Whenever I have a friend complain that they just can’t let their things go… I just shake my head. When you have to let things go, and there’s so much pain involved, because of a loss of a loved one… I wish you all the best. I wish you peace. Eight years later and I still cry. I miss him so much

Definitely keep up on all of those health checks and advocate for yourself, changing doctors if need be! For TWELVE YEARS I had pains that I described as feeling exactly like a gall bladder attack (gall bladder was already removed) and doctors kept telling me it was female problems. Until I had a hysterectomy and still had the pain. My gynecologist listened and sent me for an MRI of ALL my organs- stones in the bile ducts of my liver! Sepsis and I nearly died because dozens of doctors wouldn’t look beyond “female problems”.

This is why I refuse to take on the label of hypochondria. It took 6yrs to get a doctor to even accept that I wasn't making it up and I got my first diagnosis. Since then I definitely still obsess over every symptom, because I learned through experience that I have to find the right ones to tell the doctor using the right terminology for them to sift through all their knowledge and find a match. Also, I had recurring strep as a child and it turned out the cat was a carrier! So if it comes back get your pets tested, they can be treated for it and it's better than the shots you'd have to get if it keeps coming back.

Okay, I watched this video yesterday and took a bunch of notes. I recently realized that I have combination ADHD and just started taking a non-stimulant medicine for it. I'm still getting used to the medicine, but I do notice that I can focus better and I have more energy. By the time I got off work yesterday, I was so ready to tackle my "doom room". I couldn't start on it until after my 2.5 year old went to bed around 7:30, though. I found my audio book, picked my 3 things I wanted to get done, set my timer for 60 minutes and went to work. I had to pause my timer a couple of times when I had to take care of something outside of the room and then forgot to turn it back on when I got back to work. I completed my 3 things and the space looks way better than it did before I started. It's far from done, but I am eager to get back to it tonight. Thank you so much for your helpful and informative videos!

Hi Cas, watching this video really motivated me. I related so much. Thank you! I also wanted to share a small tip/hack . You may already know this. Whenever I move; I take photos of my furniture layout/ bookshelves/ even kitchen cabinet and drawers. Than I share these photos with who ever is helping me get settled into a space. Especially with the kitchen. Many times we do it ourselves and get fatigued by making the decisions, where are these wine glasses going now? Etc. Well I did this with three friends and each one got a cabinet and they placed all the stuff like the photo. This is also great for books! And I’m sure kids could do It! I would also do this for closets. Like towels. Etc. you get the idea. I learned this trick when I used to open flagship department stores in the US. I got so tired of explaining to folks about space planning etc. I just started sharing photos of what I had done at a previous store. Hope this helps someone! Also it’s a good tip just to keep things tidy. My mother has dementia so I printed the pictures and added them inside kitchen cabinets.

Declutter for the life you have now. The person you are now. And, instead of thinking ' what if I get rid of this?' think, what if I keep this? Where will it be kept, and what will its purpose be?' Sometimes it's easier to let it go than answer those questions!

So, I was a caretaker to my hubby with PPMS for 12 long years. We lived in campers, because I couldn't manage his care and my big 2-story house simultaneously. He recently moved to a nursing home because his care is now 24/7. Imagine my poor house after a dozen years of neglect! I've made some progress, but am sooo overwhelmed! Will try your "hour of power" on my front room today to at least create a warm, cozy space for relaxing. Turning music on. My "block" is the crap piled up that doesn't belong in my front room. O man! Wish me luck, fellow clutterbugs!😵‍💫💓

Always, always, always advocate for yourself if you think something is wrong. My mom died because she didn't. I've told every doctor since that I will sometimes be a pain in their backside because although they know bodies better, I know MY body better and I will not let it go when I know something is wrong.

This was so helpful. For me it's knowing something will take a long time. Knowing it's okay to accomplish 3 things, AND it doesn't have to be perfect, AND zoning has inspired me to tackle my office 1 hour at a time. Thanks! So glad you insisted on the strep test 💪 Something that may make it easier in the future: Each visit costs insurance money and possibly an additional co- pay. Thank you for telling your Dr. story and encouraging others to stand up for themselves. I was in pain for 19 years and told the pain was normal and was gas lit by Dr.s. I ended up in the ER and found out that the reason I was in pain was because I had an undiagnosed condition. It was the reason I hadn't ever gotten pregnant after 6 years of trying. I'm about to have surgery next week and hopefully this is the answer to starting our family. I am no longer afraid to stand up to Dr.s or do my own research and trust my own instincts. Thank you for saying this! ❤

Someone recommended you in the comments of a How to ADHD video, and I’m so grateful I saw it. This is so helpful! Thank you! My biggest block is my kitchen, specifically dishes. Storage is second. I have a small galley style apartment kitchen with almost no counter space and no pantry. I’m also need a visual type storage solution because if I don’t see it I don’t have it. Up until a month ago, my “pantry” was actually the coat closet in the living room, which does more harm than good for me. Not only could I not see it, it was a hassle to get what I needed. I finally had the spoons to clean out the closet, and ended up throwing out over $150 worth of expired food. I was so mad at myself. I decided to get rid of my dining room table and put a tiered utility shelf in its place. It made my life a lot easier, and I’m actually using stuff now. If only I could figure out the dishes 😂

I have a method of start at the door with a trash bag, donate box, and a box for stuff that goes in another room. Start by picking up the first thing you come to, and work your way through the room. When you walk out to take a break or get a new box, etc. You come back to see a clean space right at the door. It's motivating. If you just walk around grabbing trash or something else, you come back and there's is still a room full of clutter. It gets harder to keep motivated when you don't see results.

Thankfully my house is pretty decluttered and minimal (thanks to Cass and Dawn and Dana) so I could keep up with laundry, dishes and simple meals with rest periods in between. It’s so frustrating and my kitchen looks so cluttered all the time. It’s a really small space anyway and the more I have the worse it looks. Motivation for keeping your bathroom clean. Long story but my husband fell in the bathroom about 1 am the other night cut his arm on the vanity and I could not get him up - he is 6 foot and I am 5 foot - so I had to call 911. While waiting I thought "I wonder if I have time to mop around him, and to ask him to hand me my brush incase they are handsome. JK"
It took 3 firefighters to get him up and get him to his walker - my husband is only 165 lbs but long legs. They cleaned and bandaged his arm took his vitals and everything was fine except he had a fever of 102 because we both have COVID,
I told myself to aways make sure the whole house is tidy and bathrooms clean before going to bed.

Same thing happened to me. Went to the doctor because I felt I was coming down with something. She said that she had done strep tests all day and they all came back negative. I went back a few days later down 18 lbs and as sick as a dog. When she saw me her jaw dropped down to the floor and her eyes got huge. She immediately sent me over to the University of TX medical facility. There is was diagnosed with not only strep but mononucleosis, bronchitis, and sinus infection. That taught me a valuable lesson and now I advocate for myself with doctors! I was an elementary school teacher and was sick the entire winter break!

After 15 years of joint pain and doctors not being able to find anything in blood tests or on x-rays and sending me home, I finally saw a doctor who listened to me. We know what it is now and we can look for treatment options. But it won't give me back those 15 years of being in pain and some of the joints will never get better cause they are damaged. But at least I now know I wasn't crazy and the pain is real.

Gotta add this: If you don't know where to start... start with your garage! That way it can become your staging area for 'trash/donate/keep' etc. You have to bust down the beaver's dam before the stream will flow again... the garage is the cluttered up collection of crap that you need to unclog & get rid of first! Then you can tackle a room/zone/etc elsewhere in the house and use the garage to sort & get it gone!
A large bonfire helps too. Especially when the ex leaves behind their crap and refuses to come get it.
Not that I'd do anything like that. :D
(But the roasted marshmallows over piles of home interiors debris/boxes were delicious!)(Toxic, but delicious!)
