      You are so pretty. Years ago and now you are very pretty. I struggled with acne since 18 after I had a facial and it never went away. As a cosmetologist and working on brides and shows where everyone would tell me I was the one that needed the makeup, boy, talk about dropping your self esteem and stepping on it. It's been hard to recover from that. The irony is now that I'm disabled and don't go anywhere I found a doctor that treated my acne and my skin is finally cleared. Lol that's life I guess . Just keep being yourself.

I envision she looks like Yzma from The Emperors New Groove 😂 I went through hearing how unattractive I was all through my school years. Outside of school people would say I was beautiful 🤔 Now that I’m wayyy out of high school. I am showing signs of aging. I use a great skin care line, take vitamins & try to keep up with hydration. Anyway, don’t go back there. I feel her marketing skills are just plain mean spirited.

    Great organizing and decluttering tips - but your encouragement at the end is priceless! And let me mention the flip side of how one comment can be so damaging - just one comment can be the encouragement someone needs! Sixty years ago, a sweet pastor's wife thanked a teenage boy who had given something to her by saying, "Thank you. You will be a good provider." That comment planted a flag in the heart of that boy, abused and unloved at home, and guided him as he grew. I've been married to him for 54 years, and he has been a good provider and has loved us all so well. It was a great lesson for us - look for opportunities to speak encouragement.

      Same here, husband passed away 4 yrs ago. Every year I go through the whole house again & get rid of things that as the only person in the house, that just isn’t being used. 3 weeks it was my small kitchen appliances, apparently, I owned half a kitchen store. Lol When I was still cooking for a family I used it. Just me, nope. We did one of the attics last week, I have 5. It feels so good to watch the things going to other people who can still get years of service out of them. It’s a difficult journey trying to make the house your own space, that there isn’t anyone else to consider when making changes.

    Also, I have never thought anything about your smile other than it looks joyful and genuine, which means it’s beautiful. I also didn’t know a “gummy smile” was a thing, and tbh I’m still not convinced it’s a thing. I’m glad you see the humor and ridiculousness of it, but I’m legit angry for you. The 'don't buy containers before you have a purpose for them' is THE ONE. I measured a set of badly used drawers (after throwing out the crap that was in them), and spent a week shopping around for containers that would fit them exactly. I didn't care what they looked like, I just cared about the measurements. I found them (metal shower organisers in the end!), I used string to make compartments in them, and now I have all my art pens organised in my drawers, separated by type and colour. JOY.

    Love you and your helpful tips, Cass!
    * Don't try to organize the whole house at the same time. (Decision fatigue is real!)
    * Sort into 2 piles: KEEP or GO. Then do the KEEP pile further.
    * Don't buy containers first without knowing its purpose. Only buy containers to fit the space or use/recycle something that you already have.
    * Don't try to aim for "Pinterest-worthy" right away.
    * Only organize for function!
    * Goal is to have it better than it was yesterday.
    * Don't try to organize clutter...
    ¹. Declutter first, ². Organize!
    Only have things in your home that you use and love.

    Free container ideas without visual clutter: reassemble shoeboxes and other cardboard boxes inside out; add a pretty label. For kitchen canisters, tear the label off of oatmeal round tubs - theyre plain cardboard underneath; add a pretty label. So much easier than getting stickers off of jars, the wide mouth makes it easy to scoop into, and they're all matching and opaque for those of us who dislike visual clutter.

      I have been trying to get my best friend to declutter, because he says he wants to, and has seen how I live. We’ll start a room, like his office, but, he doesn’t follow the next part of decluttering, which is: don’t let it get that bad again. I try telling him to throw out trash, papers no longer needed, empty boxes and envelopes, bubble wrap (he buys a lot of stuff), etc. Falls on deaf ears.
      It’s easier and faster, and less stressful to pick up, and get rid of trash as it’s made, than wait for the room to get overwhelmed again.

    A piece of advice that really helped me (I wish I could remember where I heard it from) is to only store things if they are equal to the amount of space they take up. For example, if your house is $75/sq ft and you’re storing a 1x1 box, it needs to have $75+ worth of stuff in it. The old towels…gone. Old shoes…gone. Grandma’s silver cutlery…keep. It makes it easier to determine what’s worth storing and what is not worth the space it’d take up. Hope that makes sense and that it helps someone.

    • @staciecarrel4492
      @staciecarrel4492 10 месяцев назад +3

      Sounds good in theory, but for some people this would devolve into them looking around and swapping out their mountains of junk for way too many “collectible” $100 figurines or something similar. They’d still have way more clutter than their space could comfortably fit, just now instead of a pile of old linens it would be a giant cabinet they bought to hold a mass of figurines, or expensive handbags, etc.

    • @noshka
      @noshka 10 месяцев назад +7

      I’m sorry this is not good advice. It should be determined by how useful it is or how you enjoy it. I used to have expensive crap I never used and while decluttering I could sell them. Also I have cheap stuff that I genuinely like or use on a regular basis that is worth keeping. If you don’t like grandma’s cutlery and you never use it, maybe just sell it even though it’s expensive. If you really like this big whatever then keep it even though it’s cheap 🤷🏻‍♀️

      Interesting idea. And it's different for everyone.

I was insecure because when I look at the people homes of the members of my family who are bees or grasshoppers because they organize “the right way”. They can use drawers and closets “the right way” and they don’t have cube organizers and hooks in literally every room in their homes. Needless to say I have found that my biggest critic has always been me but this channel has helped me truly except my organization style and not be ashamed of it.

It made me think, “if that actually happened, how would I respond?” Would I go out and buy towels in response to this situation, or would I just find ways to use what I already have? Thinking about it that way makes it seem silly to keep the extra towels because no, I’m going to use what I have, not go and buy towels for this one scenario that may or may not happen or happen again.

When I was maybe 17 or 18 years old, my mother woke me (I was working nights in a pub) and said that she would help me pay for a nose job, should I want one. It was not something that I had EVER considered. She thought that was the reason I was wearing my hair with bangs over my eyes. To this day - I am now 57 years old - I am totally paranoid about my nose - even tough my lovely husband says he cannot see anything wrong with it. You would think I could get over it, wouldn't you?!!

    YES, Use Kleenex and shoe boxes for storage containers! Especially when you’re first figuring out what needs storing and where. You may end deciding to relocate tools to a better place, or grouping things differently - which store-bought, pricey bins and containers would discourage. They just become a deterrent to organization, and an unnecessary expense. And clutter in themselves!

      Too funny! I raided my cardboards recycling bin last year for temporary sorting bins in my hard to reach cupboards. Shredded wheat boxes, maxipad boxes, tissue boxes, tea boxes, anything that would fit in my awkward shelces to seperate medications, essential oils, dog things, cat things, Of course whenever i opened the doors it drove me nuts because the amount of different shapes and colours was making my brain buzz. So i covered them in a lovely patterned shelf liner vinyl. They are still there! Hahaha.

      It's so awesome your sister has come to help - and now you'll have more of a plan!
      Last summer my daughter and her hubby came over a number of times to help me declutter and decide what to keep (mostly store!) They are building me a Granny Flat in their back yard, and soon I'll be curating what goes into the new space!
      He was great at outside stuff, and hauling rooms to storage or away... while she kept me on track with sorting and decision making! It was awesome to have someone else drop things off, and just do the sorting.
      The garage held some of my daughter's things, and items from my folks (who died 17 and 30 years ago!!)
      It was wonderful to share memories and pick out treasures with someone who also loved them - and we helped each other let other things go that we didn't need!
      Some we set aside for her brother (he lives farther away, and was busy with his own life) or other family members.
      A real treat was when our realtor saw the pretty Blue Danube dishes my father- in law gave me ~ 50 years ago - loved but long just sitting in the tall cupboards -
      I'd put them on the porch in the more precious 'give away'/ section. She loves blue and white China, and immediately asked if she could buy them!! So they will be loved, and it was a no stress way to pass them on!
      My biggest tops are to work in manageable blocks of time (set a timer!) And when you're working on your own, use the 'body double' touch of purging on a podcast or calling your sis! And do take breaks

"Organization doesn't get you more space, getting RID of things does!!!" Such a simple statement with something so difficult to comprehend!!!! I just adore you and your channel. God Bless you!
    Oh and by the way no cosmetic surgery is needed!!! You look great!! And don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

    This video is so helpful, especially the rule about not organizing clutter. I live in a small apartment and have lots of things for my job as a freelance audio engineer so I have to be extra diligent. A long way to go, but videos like this keep me motivated. Thank you. As for the ending, my rule of thumb is to not listen to anyone who tries to shame me into something. And btw, I truly don't get the "gummy smile" comment. Your smile isn't gummy, it's beautiful!

    I was very hesitant to watch this considering I've watched so many "organization" videos and end up absolutely discouraged 😞 however, this mashes so much sense and gives me hope that I can get my life together 😆 also, you're pretty entertaining ❤️
