When my daughter was small, every so often we would have an art show. I would hang up her paintings, ceramics, etc. and invite the grandmothers, aunts, and so on. We would have snacks and beverages set up like an art gallery opening. Everyone could pick some artwork to take home or I would frame a picture for them from time to time. Discussions about the art and so much fun. Best declutter ever!
Actually brought tears to my eyes. I am an artist and my mother NEVER kept any of our childhood drawings. She didn't see any value in them. My inner child thanks you. 🫶😊😊
My hint for decluttering clothing is that if I wear it and I don't love it, I turn it inside outside. That means that when it comes out of the dryer, it goes straight to the donate bin.
Hey Kallie. I’m a 63 yr old retired woman, no children, but love to watch your videos! Although I don’t usually need to learn new “hacks” or even how to simplify my life, I still really enjoy your videos. It is obvious to me why your channel is successful, you are so relatable & your tips & hacks make sense! Honestly I watch simply because I enjoy you, your humor, your quirky ways! Honestly the camera loves you & you definitely have the “it” factor! Keep going, the skies the limit & you are well on your way! God Bless!
Me, too. 61 and pick up a few things from her videos, but am already decluttered and organized. We grew up differently. My mom kept a clean lovely home so I was blessed with that.
I've been working on Swedish Death Cleaning. My mom left so much clutter that took my Hubs and I many, many week-ends to go thru. I vowed not to leave a big mess for my children. ❤
@@SilverGirl-925 I had to clear out my father's house and then two years later, my mother's house. I think that people who went through the Depression and/or WWII are savers. I cleared out my father's house with two of my cousins and we did it in a week. I tried to donate things, but there was just to much of it and I only had a week to do it in. I ended up lining big black garbage bags three deep along the entire front of the property. My cousin then put a notice on Craig's list to "come and get it." They came in trucks and hauled away a lot of it. I had more time with my mother's house but she had much more stuff. I'm hoping not to put my daughters through that but no matter how much I donate or throw out, there will be stuff.
Plus one - and the sanity enhancing benefits are real! So many fewer objects clamoring, "Store me, clean me, insure me!" Our stuff has so many unrecognized claims on us. Those things better be paying my family in utility, beauty, convenience - some kind of gratification or they can depart and serve someone else.
a quick change that we did thats been helpful ****change outlet to one with usb ports ***** They dont take any more room but it helps eliminate the charging block
Yes! I have one where I charge Everything: Phones, tablets and rechargeable AA batteries etc. Game changer! I even bought one of those little resin shelves that mount in/over the outlet- it holds everything from my phone to my small hand held vacuum.
Omg! You validated my craziness! I'm 65 years old. I went to the store the other day and told my husband to make sure he didn't get murdered while I was gone because there were dishes in the sink and I didn't want the photos all over "Dateline"!
True Crime watcher, I try to keep my home tidy for surprise guests and crime scene photos. I go a step further and when my husband is out of town always make sure I have on nice pajamas. Glad to know I am not the only weirdo. 😂
I haven’t thought of the pjs. Lol! Now I need some new ones. I wear an oversize ( think 4 sizes too big!) sweatshirt and sweats to sleep. My favorite gown is getting full of holes. It’s a fuzzy black one with a 3d fuzzy bear on the front. I think I’ve had it 25 years. They don’t make stuff like they used to! My husband has to commute for work and I wonder what would I do if he had an accident on the way home. More so since losing a nephew and my stepdad in wrecks a year and a half apart. It’s always on my mind.
I def think about it in the morning, when I leave and definitely before vacations! My mom and grandma said "you never wanna come home to work waiting for you"🤷🏾♀️
Haha for me it's more like "if something happens to me and people have to come into my space, do I want to leave that out/do I want to leave this like this?" 😅
My mum always said imagine if you go out and on your way back in, there are visitors waiting at your door. Would the house be okay to let them in 😂. I love this. It’s always made me tidy before I go out. Same when I leave for holiday. I even mop to the front door as we leave. So it’s spotless when I get home. 😊
Whenever we travel, I do a very thorough home clean. I even have an “in case of death” binder that I put out. My husband thinks it’s a bit much, but if we die, I don’t want my loved ones coming in and seeing my house a mess. The other win is that when we come home, the house is clean and it’s so much easier to unpack and get right back into normalcy .
The last comment about scanning the house and thinking if it would look good in crime scene photos made me laugh, because the way I console myself for how messy my house gets sometimes is by saying, "Well, if someone breaks in, I'll definitely hear them coming and they'll probably twist their ankle, too." 😅😅
Hack for tablecloths for parties: bedsheets! A fitted twin bedsheet fits over a picnic table. I love giving things a second purpose. I don't go all out over decorations for parties. Get a plain color one or I got one with cupcakes on it. Then wash. Use for beds or at least isn't a disposable tablecloth.
I have done this many times. I buy a crisp white twin flat sheet from Walmart. Looks like a white table cloth. You can wash with oxyclean or bleach and it looks new.. of course you have to iron but still it is cheaper than a tablecloth and its reusable
I just did this for Christmas! I wanted two holiday looking tablecloths but couldn't find any I liked so while walking around Walmart I decided to look at sheets, and found the most perfect cranberry-red sheet sets. They are plain with no designs which is even better because I can use them for other occasions. We have a rectangle dining table in a corner of our living room, with a beautiful tall lamp on it. We don't have space for a Christmas tree and haven't found the perfect small tree to put on the table so I wrap a nice classy holiday wrapping paper onto the lamp shade, then before putting it back on the lamp I slip a very thick wreath around it at the bottom, then lay a string of lights all over the wreath. Then we have the rest of the table for piling presents and cute decor. The sheet hangs down the sides almost to the floor hiding the plastic bins we store our Christmas decor in. I have since removed the red sheet & replaced it with a very pretty beige sheet that will serve us well for the rest of the year or until I want a newer one. On the much smaller kitchen table that serves as a dining table I put the fitted sheet and had to cut around it for a better fit. On top of it I keep a lovely lacy vinyl see thru tablecloth protector. I love these two solutions! Easy, affordable, and beautiful.
Re Phone Charging area....We constantly use our charging cords (There are 5 of us), so we leave them plugged into the outlet. Next to the outlet is a woven basket with holes large enough to weave cords through it. We simply grab the cord and charge the phones right in the basket. It hides everything and there is no need to always be searching for the cords and needing to reinsert them into the outlet. Also, the cords are not cluttering up the counter.
Busted! I'm 62 and I have done the "Murder Scene Scenario" quick nightly tidy-up during my entire adult life. Plus, my husband and I have had a standing rule that we can't go to bed unless the kitchen is clean. That rule is also about keeping the bugs away.
I think of it more like, if I had to call an ambulance during the night, how would it look? - For the record I know that EMTs aren’t looking at your home when they are giving someone life-saving treatment and I also know from experience that when you call for an ambulance in an emergency, you don’t think about anything else, but afterwards, you take a look around and it is one of your thoughts, “does it look like they need to call social services for my loved one?” 😂
Crime Screen Photos - 😧. I understand what you are saying! At 77, I worry about being hauled off to the home, and the kids telling everyone all the junk I have in my house! 😂. I now throw every unnecessary thing away!
I had a friend get CPS called on them when EMTs responded to their house They absolutely do look around It was easily dismissed as the EMTs were just Karens but it was a hassle for sure
Instead of using cloths to catch the excess water around your soap by your sink, you can use these diatomaceous earth coasters. They are very good at absorbing water. I use them as hand soap coasters and under my water glass that I use to rinse my mouth after brushing my teeth. You can get short ones or longer ones, and they are a nice minimalistic way to prevent water drips near sinks.
The best change I made in my kitchen was to store lids on the containers. In this process, I discovered I didn’t need as many containers and donated more than half of them.
SAME!!!!! I think what people are going to say if they have to look in my drawers/files/closets. "Wow! She's so organized this is easy to take care of!" I helped clean out 2 grandmas' houses so I think that helped curb my belongings. Great video!
As someone who had to go through my parents things after they passed, I can tell you “you’re not alone”. I’m constantly throwing/ giving away things in fear of my children having to do that. Thank you for your videos!🙏🏼
I always have to have a clean bathroom because you never know who might need to use it! In jr high there was a hike near my house and a popular girl from school rang our bell to use the bathroom!!! Ever since then, the bathroom is the place I make sure is clean!!
Your last point...completely relatable. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one. It's a combo of my two favorite kinds of youtube video genres. True crime and decluttering...lol
My twins are hoarders. They are 12. I had enough one day and told them that if we had a fire in the house and the firefighters had to look for you in your room, it would be a hazard for them to try and find you. Plus it would be hard for you to try and get out of your room since their is so much stuff in here! They let me help them clean their room. Since they can't let go of things, we took pictures of empty toy boxes (yes there were lots of those around), we bagged up stuffed animals that we don't play with anymore but can't get rid of. They are now in the basement. We got rid of a ton of clothes also. We got them some shelves to put their Lego creations on. Their dresser is clear, I can see the floor, and I think they are happier in a room that is more organized and less cluttered.
I had twins sons. I feel your pain! When mine were about 12, I got completely fed up with the condition of their room and had a total come-apart and took their door off of the hinges so they couldn't hide the mess. I propped it against the wall right next to the door opening. They used it as a toboggan to ride down the stairs! I had to buy a new door. 😳
I went through something similar with my daughter a few years ago. We had to gut her room a couple of different times before she permanently kept in order. She’s now 14 and has kept it in order for more than a year. She recently told me the three things that made it “stick:” 1. “2-minute tidy” before bed every night. I had assumed that was obvious, but apparently I hadn’t spelled that out until our 2nd or 3rd deep clean out. 2. “Don’t know what to do with this” basket. I’m sure there’s a more efficient name for this, but I eventually set up a permanent home for the items that did not have an obvious home. Now, she comes to me every few months (and growing less and less frequent) and asks for help cleaning that basket out… which is waaaay better than cleaning out her whole room! This was one of the biggest game-changers. 3. “Kiss it goodbye.” We’ve done this since her earlier childhood, but she says this has always helped her part with stuff… if there’s something that’s no longer serving her but holds some meaning, we may first take a picture of it or just skip to “kiss it goodbye and thank it for being a part of your life!” If we are donating, we also bless the next owner. If it’s not in donatable condition, we gently “bury” it in the trash. In other words, we kinda make it a ceremonial process. In most cases, it all takes less than five seconds, but some more meaningful items need a quiet moment. 😅 It’s funny, but it really helps with the parting of things. I think my kids resonated with this because I was respecting what it meant to them to part with it and I was giving them space to be “sad” about it, yet also giving them a way to channel that momentary sadness.
There are three daily tasks that I am "religious" about. When I get up, I immediately make the bed. Once a week, I change our sheets. I make sure the kitchen sink is cleared and clean every night before going to bed and the living room is picked up and blankets and pillows neatly put away. I'm far from a perfect housekeeper, but minding those few little tasks really give me a good start to my day! 😊 P/S Yes, to the towel hooks instead of towel bar! 😊
You shouldn't make your bed immediately. You should always turn the covers back to air the bed. You've been sweating in it all night! I always leave making the bed until after breakfast/shower.
I don’t ever think of crime scene photos but I certainly always say if something were to happen to me people have to sort through my stuff and I definitely know my kids will just throw my stuff away, especially my 2 sons. I’ve always thought like that since I lost my Mum and Dad and they had so much stuff to go through. That’s when I decided as much as I wanted all my stuff, I didn’t need it all and I decluttered but I’ve noticed it’s building up again so I’ll have to go through it again. Thanks for your videos Kallie, I love them.
0:49 along those same lines, I repurposed a dollar store drying mat (the cloth with a thin sponge inside) and custom cut it to just catch that extra moisture that’s right by my kitchen faucet lever.
Swedish dearh cleaning is a must. My mother in law left behind a house jam packed with things. She never got rid of anything. My sister in law and I did most of it, donated all. Several years later there is a small room full and boxes and boxes of jewelry. We became so burnt out we had to stop. We have plans to finish this spring. I definitely do not want to leave anything like that behind me. Thank you for your informative, entertaining videos. I have learned many valuable tips from you
I hear you, I had to do my mother's home. And she was not to bad all said and done. Like you it took time to get through it all. I remember one day when I was visiting my Grandmother and told her how much I loved one of her painting that she painted. She took it off the wall and gave it to me, we were both happy.
You are awesome! I hear you. I think about our "stuff" quite often. My husband and I sold our 1st home & moved across the USA 6 months ago. Needless to say, we donated/gave away most of our stuff. IT FELT SO GOOD! The new home is much more intentional and with that more minimal. It feels better, lighter, less stressful, and much easier for me to keep up with the household chores.
Borrowing is a great tip! We needed a tile saw to do a backsplash. I posted on FB I’d like to borrow one and had 3 offers immediately. People are so nice 😊
I love this. Years ago, borrowing something was the first go to, and we should all get back to that mindset. I remember my mom and our neighbors always borrowed from one another. Folks couldn't afford to just go buy things.
I think that exactly the same on the “death” issue. Some things I don’t want anyone to rummage through. And some things I just realize that no one will care about my stuff. Nice to hear some one thinks like I do! You just got another subscriber!
Love this content! Better than dollar store hacks. Don’t mean to be negative but this content is how I first found you! Topics on productivity, habits, routines, decluttering, cleaning etc are so motivational. Keep up the great work! We appreciate what you do!!
Hooks (stick on) are your friend for more than towels. I use them inside closets for belt, ties, etc., under the lip of everything like countertops to corral cords, etc. I keep a printer in my closet and hook the cord on a high hook(an easy reach to plug it in outside the closet door when needed. I also use long peg racks inside my closets above the door for gift wrap rolls, walking stick, umbrellas, etc., even my hubby’s rifle. Every space is vital.
I love your reference to Swedish death cleaning and what your space would look like in a photo. When I was raising my kids, I always said to tidy up incase in firemen come, now that I am old, I say tidy up incase the paramedics come!
Hi Kallie! Your "crime scene" comment certainly has merit. Years ago we experienced a house fire. The morning of the fire I had done a whole house tidy and reset before heading out for the day. No one was home through out the day so everything was very neat and tidy when the fire broke out. Because of the presentation of the home, the firefighters took time after they had extinguished the fire to go above and beyond, including raising furniture out of the two feet of water in the basement. When the smoke had cleared (literally) the insurance adjuster told the restoration company the house had to be repaired to the level of "perfection" (her word) that was prior to the fire. Throughout the entire process, the reference back to the clean, tidy house prior to the fire was a minimum standard that was set for any sub-contractors hired as well. So yes, making sure your home presents well just in case of "unexpected" visitors or events, certainly pays off!
An Interior Designer told me years ago to always take out towel rods, and replace them with a row of coat hooks. Because you can hang 4 or 5 towels in the same space that one would fit on, if it's on a rod. If you are worried about them drying, use some Turkish towels. They are thinner but surprisingly effective.
Same for some winter jackets. Instead of having them inside of a closet on a hanger taking a lot of space, just have a spot on hooks for them close to the door. If they are moist, they'll dry there. I have a row of hooks with lots of space for jackets.
One of the best things I ever did was when my daughter was pregnant with my first granddaughter I made her an email with her name and then I decided to do it for each one of my daughters. I have three of them and then each one of my grandkids, I have seven emails but things that I want to save pictures they made. I’ll take a picture of it and upload it into the email and anything I just might wanna say to them and then every year when I get a new date book for my purse, I I write everyone’s email and all the passwords once a year and they all know where it is and it’s just a simple to remember things. He always seem to forget because life gets busy and you do forget the small things and just pictures that you want to save that you don’t have a place to put them. I reread one of my oldest granddaughters emails I sent, and when she noticed her toes she used to growl at her toes. Every time she saw them she’s growl like a dog cutest thing, but I totally forgot about that and I would’ve never remembered that in 1 million years if I didn’t email it to her, just a thought when you were talking about keeping things places and easy place and everybody has an email with their own name. Already saved for them.
Love this idea! My three children are grown & gone living their lives without me, but one recently reconnected with me thru texting. He writes LETTERS in each text, he is a very intelligent deep thinker with a lot to say and i cherish every word. I screenshot them before deleting. At first I had intended to print them out & keep them in a notebook, but now there's so many of them it would be a MASSIVE undertaking. So now I'm open to suggestions on how to keep them, organized & accessible. Don't know if my phone has any extra space for storing more of them. 😂
I so loved your last comments on when you go to bed and the crime scene photos if police had to come in and take them. excellent comparison to your mom saying wear clean panties in case u get in accident.
Great video! You’re so inspiring. Being a mother can feel lonely in the organization areas, but it’s always nice to know other mothers are going through the same thing, and I love hearing new ideas.
I no longer use hooks to hang anything that is damp or wet. A hook keeps the fabric folded or creased upon itself and takes forever to dry. Worst case it mildews, which happened to me. Yes towel bars can be a pain from looking messy to the towel falling off. But if you want your towel to dry completely that’s what is best. Oh and I now use a clip to hold the towel on the bar.
Thanks for the video . I always try to have my kids have a picture perfect room which I know is impossible . But it a goal to look forward to . Your room is your Sanctuary and you should treat it so . ❤😊
I came across your videos by happenstance, and I'm so happy about it! Love your videos, love the tips, and love the science you sometimes provide via studies you've read. Excellent, excellent, super helpful, and you have helped me to see changes I can and have wanted to make for years.
For your chargers at 4:30, what about a white slanted “mail slot” mounted on the wall over the area where the canister currently is? That way you can just drop it in and you don’t necessarily have to wind it up every time. The white would look nice and there is no canister to occupy counter space, no lid to have to take on and off. It would remove some tiny friction. Maybe try it out!
Charging cords: Rectangular Target basket with rectangular hole opening on each end. Thread the plug thru - plug end in. Place phone in basket - plug in.
I have memory boxes for both of my kids. They each have a tote. I've stored clothes, first workbooks and clothes along with toys. I actually pulled some stuff out for my granddaughter and the light up stuff stuff that still worked? mind blown!! I agree! I would never want a stranger to walk onto my home that is messy
Suggestion… instead of the rubber pad under your hand soaps, try the stone type pads that absorb water and instantly dry made for this. No more water standing. Good for kitchen and bathroom!!
You need the battery daddy!!! I see your batteries stored in the drawer but the battery daddy will change your life! It’s one of those as seen on tv products I found at Costco. Seriously the best.
I ended up being the person who outlived my friends at an early age, so I'm the one that went through everyone's stuff when they passed. And I keep very minimal stuff, and everything is always very clean, organized, and maintained because it'll end up being some stranger dealing with my stuff.
True story - when I was 12, my house was broken in to while we were at school/work. My friend had slept over that weekend and we stayed in the guest room. My Mom had stripped the sheets and left the quilts and pillows on the floor. When the police were touring the house, they commented that the burglar had ransacked the room. My Mom was mortified, and we NEVER left the house again without making a bed. I now make my family do the same.
A funny line in a movie was when Bette Midler and Shelley Long went into Bette’s character’s apartment. Shelley said “Oh No. they ransacked your apartment. Bette’s character said, “No, this is how I left it”.
My engineer husband cut a small hold inside the back of our dresser. And our charging cords are fed through. I charge ipads phones ear buds headsets even the ring camera battery in my drawer. No cords no devices visible. He cut tiny holes behind the tv and hid our tv wires perfectly too😊
I have a set of food containers that let you snap on the lid to the BOTTOM. I think it keeps the interior of the container fresher and I don’t have to hunt for lids anymore, I like them!
You are spot on about making purchases and thinking about it when you die. As a person who lost a parent and is going through their home, there is so much little stuff. You have to make decisions on everything! Driving to their home and seeing properties piled with stuff, I think omg one day someone has to go through that. I’ve started going through my own items and getting rid of stuff. It’s all just stuff!
Hi Kalie, I just wanted to say, I love your videos and I have been watching your channel for a few years now. I take your advice and try to apply it to my own life. I’m not perfect but slowly I’m getting more organized. Thank you for all of your motivation and positivity.
Love your videos! Great tips and reminders to keep me motivated towards decluttering. You mentioned that you meal plan, and as a busy mom who has tried and failed meal-planning more times than I’d like to admit, I’d love to know your process! Thanks!
I take a clean piece of paper & put my menu for the week on the right side of the paper after looking through my cookbooks & seeing want I want to eat & then on the left side of the paper I write down everything I need to buy to make whatever I picked out to eat for the week. I do this every week before going grocery shopping.
I did the Swedish death cleaning last year. I had my kids come over and go through their bins and keep what they wanted. Took all the photos from 30 or so albums and have one decorative box each. (Huge space saver) As a mother lugging boxes from home to home to find out your kids would have dumped them anyway is a big relief.
I agree. I am not a fan of towels on hooks. I care more that they dry properly than they look nice. Depending on your climate, some towels just never dry (we have lived a lot of places) Pegs or clips are a good idea. Thanks. Thinking of the grandsons who just pull everything down 😂
A solution to this I've found is buying the thin 100% cotton hand towels like the cheap ones from ikea or daiso, because they're thin they dry so fast but because they're cotton they're nice and absorbent!
We did towel hooks in our masterbath on the narrow wall between shower and shelves on the other side of shower. Looks soo much better!! Great tips here❤
Great ideas, as usual. I really like the retractable charging cords. And as a person diagnosed with ADHDat 63, "Put it away" is becoming my mantra! I noticed you're a leftie. While both parents were righties, three of their eight kids were lefties. I also have a son and granddaughter who are also leftoes! You are special! I wonder if any of your kids are? ❤
Recreational shopping - HA! I spent three and a half hours at Walmart yesterday waiting for them to mount my new tires. What did I do? Spent $133 and change just from walking through the whole store. Twice. And the frozen raspberries thawed because the insulated bag was in the car, up on the lift - big surprise, right? I finally sat myself down and read a book on my phone - which I should have done in the first place! Thanks for the things you talk about - always entertaining.
You convinced me to store food storage with the lids. It really didn’t take up more space and goodness does it make it that much easier. Truly simplified putting away food.
Checking this recommended video to see if I have something to learn. A minute in I realise that there are big problems, and small problems. And then there are miniscule problems. I wish I needed to tweak my home on the miniscule scale. I don't... But I do appreciate videos like these. There will always be a place and a time for everything.
Swedish death cleaning...:) I've been doing that quite a while before I knew there was a term for it. I don't think of it as morbid as much as I do making it just one less thing my family needs to do when I'm gone; they don't need to clean out my clutter. When my grandmother passed, my mom had so much stuff to go through in addition to taking care of paperwork that it was just overwhelming. Great video, thanks!
I love how you use mason jars for organization. My husband and I do this as well. We tend to use mason jars for as much as possible. I also like your memory boxes. That is something in particular I have been struggling with and I think this idea will help.
Re:putting things away, I tell myself "OHIO"- only hold it once. For example, I used to fold laundry and put it back in the basket. Then you have to go back later and move it from the basket to the drawers and closet. Now I fold laundry in my bedroom and things go straight into their place. Or when we empty kids backpacks at the end of the day, lunchboxes go straight to the kitchen to get cleaned, not on the shelf or in the hallway, etc. Anyway, love your channel. Thanks for the ideas!
I am constantly thinking about the fact that I will have to go through my parents things one day. So in a way I think about that too. I love your videos Kallie! Cheers from another Mama. 🎉
I have gotten to the point where I ask myself a quick question before I buy anything........Do I want to have to clean or dust this for the next 20 years? This helps me not buy impulse purchases of home decor and other things. I ask, "Do I want to dust this item for the rest of my life?" If the answer is "NO" then I walk away. Just the thought of all the extra work or clutter that builds up so quickly makes me half sick to my stomach and I can avoid buying needless extras.
I use a slightly different thought process when shopping. I get paid once a month, so when I'm tempted to buy something I really like I ask myself if I would use the item BEFORE next payday, which 90% of the time is no, so I leave it with a mental note to put it on my next month's shopping list, but by the time next month gets here I have totally forgotten about the items. Has saved me a ton of money and clutter.
I also meal plan. Such a great way to save money. Every week, I clean out my fridge and take an inventory of what we have. I use this to meal plan, using the items we already have first before buying new. I write up my plan and then make a list of only items we need. Also, love the idea of store where you use it. Great tip.
I just found your channel and I love your energy and get ideas for a simple life. You made the comment about why leave others deal with my clutter when I'm gone, I have been noticing that concept more these days, now to start letting go.
OMG!! I do the same thing!! I always make sure my house is clean before I go to bed. I think what if something happens during the night & EMS has to come in…what would they think?! And I keep decluttering so my kids won’t have so much to go through after I’m dead!!🥰
16:38 I do it too! Especially since the time I unexpectedly went to hospital for a week and my sister had to go through my bedroom looking for items for me to use!
Oh, the to do list scheduling for the weekend is a must for me and my husband! With two young kids us both working, it keeps us happy and organized. Like for example: okay you get Sunday afternoon to work on our remodel and I get Saturday morning to do some deep cleaning. 👌
You are definitely not the only one who thinks about how your house would look in a crime scene video. I’m so glad you co confessed so I know I’m not alone!!
One day, I was going through my craft stuff, and my girls were nearby. I said, "Someday all of this will be yours!"The girls responded by saying,"But mom, we don't want it!" I was hurt at first but then realized that we have different styles. I have decluttered big time since then, and now they'll be able to see what they really want. Plus, I can see what I have, and I've been more productive. Thanks for the inspiration! You're very clever! I really like your videos!
No, Kallie, you’re not the only who thinks of “the crime scene photo.” I also think at times that my home looks like a crime scene but there has been no crime! I started my decluttering journey in 2012. My sister-in-law had passed away and my husband and I were help her son and his wife clean out her house. She had bought my mother-in-law’s house and had lived with her until m-i-l had to go into a nursing home. I had always thought these two wonderful women were such immaculate housekeepers, but no, they just really knew how to hide things away! I decided I did not want to put my three girls through this, so began decluttering my home. It is still a work in progress but it is worth it! Sure wish someone like you and RUclips had been around when my girls were little! They are now 40, 46, and 50!
I am loving your channel. Thank you for all the inspiration. And you are NOT the only person who worries about what your home would look like if something tragic happened and what my house would look like on police crime scene photos! I fear mine would say "there appears to have been a struggle" and then they add "she may have been a hoarder"! (I may be, I just get overwhelmed so quickly when trying to declutter/ clean. Thank you. I now have hope and inspiration!
Lol at the crime scene photos of your living room!! And, no, you are not the only one!! I think sometimes that if EMS had to rush into my house right now, I would be totally mortified because of all the stuff laying about and would probably die from mortification rather than a heart attack! 😂 Other times, I'm like, oh sure, the house looks great, and there's no one to see it. 🤭 Too funny!
The cups! The cups! I have a trick. When my kids were little, I took some different color water cups and glued big magnets onto them so that when the kids wanted water, they got their cup, got their water, and put it back on the side of the fridge to dry. Even with juice - just rinse it out when it's done. Well fast forward 12 years and they make some really cute ones on Amazon and such. This really saved me some head aches.
Can we talk about how perfect your eyeliner is please? Like Disney Princess eyes over there. Can you do an updated tutorial on what you use and how you do it please?
The first time I heard you say to store your containers with the lids on them, I thought that's crazy! Guess what? It's awesome! I'm a convert. You have some of the best solutions to everyday problems.
I’ve been watching you for the longest time; I really enjoy your videos! I just wanted to say you have the most beautiful kitchen!!! We are painting our lowers a dark forest green. It’s a lot of work but worth it.
Love your content. So genuine and realistic. Can you pleas repost how did you assemble the pull up cabinet in your kitchen? That one is the most brilliant hack in my opinion.
Omg, the yeti lid organizer! 🙌🥳 Those have been so frustrating for me. Might have to try that! I put all my charging cables in a cup in a drawer in my kitchen at the counter where we normally charge. Also been using your planner since it arrived in December! Using it in some different ways than I thought! Can't wait to keep using it and find new ways to organize my schedule.
I love the idea of storing water bottles and containers with the lids on. However, how do you guarantee that they are dry and won't start growing mold inside while they are in the cupboards?
That’s all I could think of ,opening it later to a musty smell. One hack that I learned from my mother in law almost fifty years ago was to always tuck a paper towel inside any thing that you want to close and store, such as a thermos, cooler, etc. The paper towel will absorb any residual moisture and no funky smells.🙌🏻
What a lovely idea I'm sure it created warm memories aswell and made your daughter feel so special! Good for you!
This is such a good idea!!
Actually brought tears to my eyes. I am an artist and my mother NEVER kept any of our childhood drawings. She didn't see any value in them. My inner child thanks you. 🫶😊😊
@@ac1646 Hurrah for artists! ❤️
I just love this! What a wonderful idea!
My hint for decluttering clothing is that if I wear it and I don't love it, I turn it inside outside. That means that when it comes out of the dryer, it goes straight to the donate bin.
I love this idea!
I turn everything out before way lol
Freaking love this. I'm always trying to REMEMBER.
God Bless!
Her children are so beautiful that i enjoy her videos for a chance to see them .. they definitely have their Moms IT factor. 😊
Me too! 63 and I find she has so much wisdom with great tips & ideas. 😊
@@briannab5296That is so sweet! Idk if I’ve ever seen them!
Me, too. 61 and pick up a few things from her videos, but am already decluttered and organized. We grew up differently. My mom kept a clean lovely home so I was blessed with that.
CALM DOWN!!!!!!!
I've been working on Swedish Death Cleaning. My mom left so much clutter that took my Hubs and I many, many week-ends to go thru. I vowed not to leave a big mess for my children. ❤
Me too. This method really works!
Me as well just recently. My mom kept everything, whether it was necessary to keep or not.
I really liked this!
a quick change that we did thats been helpful ****change outlet to one with usb ports ***** They dont take any more room but it helps eliminate the charging block
Yes! I have one where I charge Everything: Phones, tablets and rechargeable AA batteries etc. Game changer! I even bought one of those little resin shelves that mount in/over the outlet- it holds everything from my phone to my small hand held vacuum.
Yes! I have 1-2 of these in pretty much every room! They make it so much easier!
Omg! You validated my craziness! I'm 65 years old. I went to the store the other day and told my husband to make sure he didn't get murdered while I was gone because there were dishes in the sink and I didn't want the photos all over "Dateline"!
💯 same here!
😂😂😂
😅- hilarious
Lol😂
😂😂😂 I love it!
True Crime watcher, I try to keep my home tidy for surprise guests and crime scene photos. I go a step further and when my husband is out of town always make sure I have on nice pajamas. Glad to know I am not the only weirdo. 😂
u need help mentally
We also do our laundry BEFORE we pack up to come home. That means less work when we get home and unpack everything, putting things where they belong.
@@Chrissyhappy .. love this!😊
@@ruthmanor70 .. great idea!
I don’t like to come home to a messy house.
I clean before I go too.
The last comment about scanning the house and thinking if it would look good in crime scene photos made me laugh, because the way I console myself for how messy my house gets sometimes is by saying, "Well, if someone breaks in, I'll definitely hear them coming and they'll probably twist their ankle, too." 😅😅
Lol
Lol! 😂
Ain't that the truth 😂
Love this lol 🤣
Also heard that if the house is too messy the burglars will miss so many good things… they don’t want to go through the piles 😂
Wow now that's a great idea I'm using and passing on! Good thinking 👍🏼💡
@lisas4579 And you can use clamps for the top sheet if you need more than one or its a longer table 😁
@@briannab5296 Great ideas!
I had a friend get CPS called on them when EMTs responded to their house
They absolutely do look around
It was easily dismissed as the EMTs were just Karens but it was a hassle for sure
I’ve never cared what a crime scene photo might show as I keep my house clean for me
Instead of using cloths to catch the excess water around your soap by your sink, you can use these diatomaceous earth coasters.
True crime and decluttering...lol
hahaha I'm so glad I'm not alone
Yes, my 2 favorite media outlets, TC and organization sum me up!
Love your sense of humor! I don't scan my house as a crime scene but I think about what my kids will have to deal with when I die.
@@pauladrennan4223 Oh no!! We have threatened to take the door off the hinges. Guess I better not do that now!
I went through something similar with my daughter a few years ago. We had to gut her room a couple of different times before she permanently kept in order. She’s now 14 and has kept it in order for more than a year.
She recently told me the three things that made it “stick:”
@@susankruger7890 these are great tips!! Thank you!
P/S Yes, to the towel hooks instead of towel bar! 😊
I do however wish that more towels would have the convenient loop at the corner! I think this is a great idea for my bathroom too.
I would rather leave sink till morning
I’m worn out by night
Ditto!!!!! I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing things are in an uproar in the kitchen and den. 😮
Ditto!!!!! I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing things are in an uproar in the kitchen and den. 😮
I have learned many valuable tips from you
DÖSTÄDNING!
@@infjandcoping4614 .. not in our city! Home Depot and Lowes no longer loan/rent out tools except to professional general contractors.

Cute basket! I put our cups on a Lazy Susan. The little kids can turn it and reach their cup and all the cups have a home.
I like that!
This should be the top comment. Her dollar store drying racks were so cringe.
Love the idea inside closet, above the door!!❤
I love your reference to Swedish death cleaning and what your space would look like in a photo. When I was raising my kids, I always said to tidy up incase in firemen come, now that I am old, I say tidy up incase the paramedics come!
😆🥰

This is beautiful 🥹💕 It’s a clutter free way of a lifetime of memories and stories to live on.
That is an awesome idea ❤

😂 wearing clean underwear in case of being in an accident is redundant because if I'm in an accident my underwear AINT GONNA BE CLEAN 😂
Great ideas! 😁💜 Love the canister idea for cords and the basket for the cups. When things are 'in' something it looks so much better and intentional.
Growing up we had a cup area on the counter and everyone had a designated coaster. It was helpful and I use it in my home now.
We should get the whole group together this weekend. Playing on 4ra is always a highlight.
Love your wit and humor! Not only do you have great information it’s so enjoyable to watch you
Charging cords: Rectangular Target basket with rectangular hole opening on each end.
I have been using a pretty vintage covered vegetable server for chargers for a few years - pretty and neat !
You need the battery daddy!!! I see your batteries stored in the drawer but the battery daddy will change your life! It’s one of those as seen on tv products I found at Costco. Seriously the best.
Better idea is to get rechargeable batteries and not have to have so many.
That is hilarious!!
Lol! That is a great story!!
Ohhhh! What brand are those? I want some too.
Rotate meal plans. That way you dont have to constantly do a new one
Hanging towels dry slower than towels on a rod. I use pegs on the rod or clips just beneath the fold to hold the towel in place
I agree. I am not a fan of towels on hooks. I care more that they dry properly than they look nice. Depending on your climate, some towels just never dry (we have lived a lot of places)
Pegs or clips are a good idea. Thanks. Thinking of the grandsons who just pull everything down 😂
I just wash mine once they're soiled, at least at the end of the day. They smell quickly regardless of if they dried
Same here👍
A solution to this I've found is buying the thin 100% cotton hand towels like the cheap ones from ikea or daiso, because they're thin they dry so fast but because they're cotton they're nice and absorbent!
Yes, my grandmother did this- secured the towel with safety pins. She was tired of her towels walking away.
I use the kallax wine bottle insert for my water bottles, best solution ever!
Always excited to see your new videos pop up. Love love your channel.
I know! I didn't believe it until I tried it either
What are your favorite murder documentaries &/or shows? I LOL’d so loud when you said that about the house looking good at night🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are just a joy to watch and listen to 💘 and I have taken a lot of your tips and used them in my life !! Thank you sweetie😃
I love how you use mason jars for organization. My husband and I do this as well. We tend to use mason jars for as much as possible. I also like your memory boxes. That is something in particular I have been struggling with and I think this idea will help.
New nighttime tidieness check thought, "Would this look good in crime scene photos?"
Love it! 😂
I am also a Thrive member. What I love about them is that I have the things I always forget to buy on auto ship.
I 💯% agree with store food and drink containers with their lids, it will save you so much time!!
I also meal plan. Such a great way to save money.
Every week, I clean out my fridge and take an inventory of what we have. I use this to meal plan, using the items we already have first before buying new. I write up my plan and then make a list of only items we need.
Also, love the idea of store where you use it. Great tip.
Your make-up looks Fabulous in this Video. The lighting really Enhances your beauty❣️
Meeting new friends through the 4rabet has been great. It’s such a vibrant community
Hi! Can you please share the bins you used for your children’s special items? Thank you.
I just found your channel and I love your energy and get ideas for a simple life. You made the comment about why leave others deal with my clutter when I'm gone, I have been noticing that concept more these days, now to start letting go.
A busy mother of 3 cute kids but still managed to stay beautiful.
I've been doing Sweedish Death Cleaning for years. I have told people about this so much. Just love it. 😊 ur not morbid.
Paused your video and finally signed up with Thrive. I’ve heard about them forever but your video finally convinced me! 😊
The cups!
I love your videos, I learn a lot and they are genuinely funny.
