Interesting comments. Whichever way you lean, can Lex find anyone who’s NOT biased? We’re all biased to a certain extent. And do you really never want to listen to someone who’s ideas might be new and different? That’s what I love about Lex. He’s trying to create nuanced conversations with a range of people. What makes Lex interesting is his life trajectory and personality. He's a questioner. He also grew up and was educated at ground zero for a guy like Biden. I went to high-school with Biden's wife and worked in the electrical engineering department at Lex's alma mater. In the mid-80s we were working on autonomous vehicles in an AI run by a Russian engineer and mystic, educated at Moscow University. Every one of us would rather have been at MIT, Carnegie Mellon or Stanford. Or IIT in India. Drexel undergrads weren't the most curious people I ever met. In fact the opposite. The triple AI (AAAI) conference was in Philly when I was there. So I got to see the giants of the field. Lex made it to the big time at MIT. It's the way his mind works. I was an art history major, without an undergrad degree, working in the lab and taking math courses to enter the master's program. The professor told me to pick a work of art and think about how AI vision processing would parse it. I did, he disagreed, but I turned out to have seen something he ignored. The beauty was there were so many problems to solve, no one cared who solved them. If you had an interesting idea, people would listen.

Lex is a sucker for great speeches, but speeches don't do anything to help. Take John F Kennedy. A great speech maker. But those speeches got him not a bit of legislation. He failed to pass a single piece of meaningful legislation during the over 3 years he was in office, excluding the Peace Corps. No civil rights bills, no anti poverty bills, nothing. Because JFK couldn't get the votes in congress. His speeches changed the senate's minds not a bit. It took Lyndon Johnson, who did not rely on speeches. He used cajoling, flattery, bullying, and deal making to pass landmark legislation.
Speeches make one side feel good, the other side angry, and they don't change policy.
