recently my kindle paperwhite that I got in 2018 died ( I read so much, I wear out the battery . I average 4-6 books a week) with the help of a couple friends, i got the newest paperwhite. I take it with me everywhere. the original reason I got a Kindle in 2008 was a birthday gift, because I have to go 300 miles from home to the VA hospital for days, or even weeks at a time, 6-10 times a year. and was having to carry a second duffel just for paperback books. I have always gotten a cover to protect the screen. the cover I got for the new one had an elastic strap that made it easier to hold with 1 hand, and it also has a kick stand, so if I am at a table I can stand it up with out having to carry a separate book stand. this freed up space in the bags under the armrests of my wheelchair.
I absolutely love my Kindle 2021. In my opinion, its alot better than the 2018 version. I liked the bigger screen and warm lighting. It was worth the money to me to upgrade.
I've decided to get a kindle and trying to decide on what kindle to buy - I found your review (out of the others I checked out) the best - to the point and more informative, thank you
The biggest advantage of the Kindle Oasis is the top-mounted power button. I have owned numerous Kindles, and may yet pick up the new Paperwhite, but why Amazon persists on putting the power button on the bottom is beyond my understanding. USB C is a massive upgrade, though, so that may lure me in.
I find it easy to hold my Oasis in one hand. I hold it by the side with the buttons, with my thumb on the page-turn button. Very easy. I'd hate to give up those buttons...
I've had every version of the kindle since it first came out in 2007 at $350. Have loved all the improvements made over the years, especially the light. I own both and flip between the oasis and paperwhite. My favorite version was the voyager with physical buttons on each side. It was a mid-level version between the paperwhite and oasis, no longer sold. Some people must have the newest phone, I must have the newest kindle, lol, My suggestion would be to save your money and stick with the paperwhite.
Agreed! I think the Paperwhite is the best way to go, as of now! I’ve heard of the Voyager but have never owned one! Maybe they will bring it back one day. Thanks for watching! 😁
i do have a voyager too and the physical yet minimalist button on both side are fucking dope ! The only problem i have with it is the small screen size :( I would have loved for a 7inch screen size version of it
@@dylancanread I just bought a used, like new Voyage with case on Ebay for 65 dollars delivered. My first Kindle. I wanted to see if I'd really use the device before spending twice as much on a newer larger model and keep the Voyage as a backup and pocket device. The Voyage doesn't have physical buttons per se, but rather the sides of the bezel/frame are pressure sensitive. I simply give the side of the bezel a little bit of a squeeze right where I'm already holding it and the page turns. I'm surprised current versions of the paperwhite don't have something similar. Also, the power button is high up on the back and not the bottom.
I have really small hands but I find the oasis is really easy to hold because of the bump on the back. It makes it easier to grip and read while laying on my back.
I bought the Paperwhite Signature edition because it is usb c and can be charged wirelessly. If I'm home, I never worry about having bluetooth off, I just put it in the dock at the end of the day. On the ultra rare occasion that I am traveling, then I'll turn bluetooth off. I love the extra storage so I can add some audio books on the device.
I bought the new Signature edition last December and have thoroughly enjoyed it. A little pricey for my first e-reader but have had no issues except learning to use it. Technology is not my forte! I do recommend the Signature.
I have the Oasis and there some features I like that you may not be aware of. You hold the Oasis by the thicker side with one hand and use your thumb to hit the buttons to turn the pages. I have bigger hands so I have a problem turning the page accidently with the hand I am holding the Oasis. There is a setting that turns off the touch screen function so just the buttons work. Also the screen rotates if you switch hands to hold it with your other hand, the buttons switch too. I regularly read while eating lunch and I can turn the page with my knuckle so I don't get the screen messy. If you are holding it in your right hand the power button is on the top. I also use a cover with a magnetic latch that turns the Oasis on and off when you open and close it. I upgraded from the kindle Keyboard and I like the buttons.
I have the regular paper white with the blue back, and I loooove it. I would like the bigger screen of the 2021 paper white, but it won’t fit in many of my bags, that fit the older version perfectly
To flip through a kindle, tap near the top and two small boxes appear at the bottom of the screen, tap the left hand one and a pop-up appears with miniature, but readable pages which can be quickly flipped through while the main page is the one you were reading. If you find something you want to read, tap the pop-up at that page, it will expand. To return to the page you were originally reading, just touch the 'back' arrow at the top of the screen. Rather than buy the Oasis, I bought the Kobo Libra 2. To put Amazon-bought books on it, just learn how to strip the DRM then convert to epub.
I use onyx boox poke 3, it reads epub has 32 GB, USB C, seamless side loading files but not waterproof it's also run android and has no ads this was the 2020 version so you could just imagine the latest. The latest onyx offerings have bigger screen bigger memory than you can write on them for handwritten notes
I don't know. I have pretty average hands, and I palm the Oasis just fine. Now, without a case, the Oasis is much "sharper" in hand than the Paperwhite. A case mitigates that bite, though. I own both, and I prefer my Oasis at home and take the more affordable model on the go. The Paperwhite is amazing.
I am keen on utilizing my local public system's e-book catalog. For me, having limited space on shelves at home makes this quite appealing. I will likely get some version of Kindle (no frills basic one). Would like to know what others are finding works best for them for CASES, both for protection and for maybe improving the experience while reading.
Actually it is easy to hold hold the Oasis with one hand and turn the pages with your thumb- true one handed reading. (To do this you need a cover though.)
I just bought a paperwhite because it was smaller than the regular Kindle and it would be easier to take with me. However, some of the titles I bought are not compatible with the paperwhite. Amazon's response to me was, "Read it on one of the Kindle apps." WTF? Why isn't there some sort of disclaimer BEFORE you purchase it? It's going back to them.
The voyage still has one of the best screens and has the power button on the back rather than the bottom. I have a voyage, a paperwhite 10th gen and a paperwhite 11th gen. I can use all three comfortably, but for me the 10th gen paperwhite has the worst screen, and the dark mode is better on the 11th gen. Usually I use the 11th gen as a daytime reader when I am at home and want a comfy larger screen in natural light. I use the 10th gen as a bed time reader since it has decent dark mode and is smaller and lighter which I like when i'm ready to pass out. The voyage is my travel kindle, and my favorite of the three thanks to much more even lighting, better contrast and gray scale, and the haptic buttons which I love.
Am trying to convince myself to buy the latest kindle I have a 10th gen one that's perfect but I really like the idea of a bigger screen. Just not sure that's worth the extra money. Great video thanks
Thanks for this helpful info. I’ve had my Paperwhite since 2017. Starting to have a little battery issues but still running pretty reliably. I had to buy a new charging cord. I like staying up to date on current models though so I’m ready when it’s time to upgrade. At this point I would stay with a Paperwhite. The Oasis looks clunky. A game changer for me was when I learned I could tap instead of swipe.
I agree! Unless the next version of the Oasis is a massive upgrade, the Paperwhite definitely seems like the best way to go! Im glad your kindle is still holding up! They seem to last forever.
I have a really old paperwhite, I think it's a 7th generation so I'm considering getting the new one to get the new features (warm light, waterproof, dark mode and maybe no ads since mine has ads and they're useless to me since they're absolutely not targeted right 😂) but the price is still a hard pill to swallow even for 8Go of storage
I got my first Kindle in 2011 version 4, then upgraded in 2012 version 5 since it had the adjustable light. I'm actually still reading on that one lol. Maybe I should upgrade.
I love the new Paperwhite Signature Edition, but it has issues. The power button on the bottom is the biggest hardware problem. The other issue is that there are slowdowns at times. I have to tap on an ebook 2-3x before the book actually downloads. WiFi will stop working at random times. The battery life is great. I love the page turn animation and size. The last Kindle Oasis released would have been perfect if it had USB Type-C, 5GHz WiFi, rubberized back for better grip and better battery life.
Agreed, Emmanuel! I love the Paperwhite too, but I have noticed some of the issues you mentioned (specifically the issue of having to tap "download" more than once before a book will begin to download). I am curious to see what new features the next Oasis will have and if it will be significantly better than the current Paperwhite.
I have a 6th Gen (ca. 2013) model and was affected by the recent 3G shutdown recently - now I'm shopping to see what's available - I really just wanted a standard Kindle with the cellular capability - maybe a little faster with a better display, and I'd be good - but that's not available! Debating whether upgrading even makes sense - I doubt I'll shell $350 for the Oasis. So are the new Kindles worth the upgrade from a 6th gen?
Oh man! That’s hard because if you want a kindle that is cellular supported, the only option right now is the Oasis which, as you mentioned, currently goes for $350! If cellular is something that’s really important to you, maybe waiting to see if the next version of the Paperwhite will be cellular supported would be your best bet. If cellular is something you can live without, in my opinion, upgrading to the Paperwhite is completely worth it, and it’s where you’ll get the most value. I hope that’s helpful!
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I haven’t read Manga before but have been thinking about giving it a shot. Do you have any suggestions as far as the best place to start?
I’m thinking of buying kindle for reading books but I’m not sure about the storage yet since I’m a manga reader as well, I heard that some people didn’t like the experience of reading manga on kindle what do you think? cuz I’m already reading manga on my iPad so I don’t know if it’s worth it or not
Hi there! Looking at my first kindle (going Paperwhite) to encourage me to get back into reading. Would you say that the 8GB is more than sufficient or should I consider paying the extra for the 16GB? Thanks :)
I was looking at some of the new features for this model and it said that you can pair it with your Audible library and a Bluetooth speaker or other device and listen. Does this mean that I can download my Audible library onto the Kindle and listen to it will on the go? If this is the case I'm going to upgrade from the 6th generation model I currently own.
I had the first generation of paper white and I didn’t realize they had all these different types of kindles now. I’m just wondering if I really need to get the newest one when I’m satisfy with the first generation. The only thing I see worth getting is that dark mode, but I’m wondering if it worth getting it?
That’s a great question, Jonathan! If you’re totally satisfied with your current kindle, I would keep it. Some of the features on the new versions are great, but there’s no need to shell out the money for an update if you’re happy with what you’ve got!
To your con of how to hold it…… my brain went to a pop socket. Is that dumb? 😂 also quick question, can I assume you can bump up the font size? I’d like to up the font size so I can skip the reading glasses before bed. Thanks! Sincerely, The girl who is shopping for her first e-reader
The Kindle has changed my life too. I have been able to read more books than ever before. For me, I like making the font large and turning off the option where I can see how much progress I am making in the book, like the page and location number. This lets me just get lost in the book and not get caught up in how much I am reading or trying to make more progress. Also having a larger font size helps me to stay engaged while reading because I am constantly turning from page to page. It helps me psychologically to stay engaged and enjoy the book more 🙂 Also, getting the ad free Kindle is totally worth it. I’ve had the one with ads and after spending a little extra money to get the new 2022 Ad free Paperwhite, I couldn’t ever go back.
Completely agree! I really like your thoughts on turning off the progress percentage. I often find myself checking to see how far I’ve progressed in a book and you’re right, I think it takes away from the experience.
i’ve been watching many videos to convince me to buy a kindle! but if you don’t mind me asking! are ads usually annoying while reading or is there an option to disable ads
That’s a great question! Personally, for a book that size, I think the kindle is convenient if you plan to read on the go, or have limited shelf space!
I believe the only other difference is that the signature edition comes standard wit no ads. But in my kindle tips and tricks video (shameless plug 😬), I share a tip on how you can get ads disabled for free!
@@dylancanread I guess I’ll go with the paper white and just pay the extra $20? For the ad free. I appreciate it man! I’m only going to use the kindle for novels maybe textbooks and who knows maybe comics
There’s also the Kindle Paperwhite Kids’ version 🧐🤔 Personally, I like smaller devices. As in, something I could fit in a pocket 📏🤔🧐 Just got a Nook GlowLight 4 because of this size requirement 👍🏽😍👍🏽
I bought the Kids Edition for myself when I upgraded at Christmas time because it came with a free case and two years of damage protection. It was a Black Friday special at the time for only $114.99. Then I turned around and sold my one-year old last generation Paperwhite for $100, making it an excellent upgrade value for me. Now that is has the warm light like the Oasis, is basically the same screen size, and is in a comfortable-to-hold, not weird form factor like the Oasis, it's an unbelievable product. And yes, Brandon Sanderson is the 💣! I'm sure I'll be rereading the first four Stormlight Archive novels on my Paperwhite ahead of volume 5 dropping late next year. Can't wait!
Hi I enjoyed watching this video. I am in the process of buying a kindle. I am I bit confused. can you plz help me. Am I right in understanding that they are four kindle. the basic, the paperwhite, the paperwhite signature and oasis? i am confused between paperwhite and paperwhite signature. is the paperwhite SIGNATURE of 2022 and paperwhite is 2021?
Thank you for watching, Seema! You are correct - there are currently 4 versions of the kindle available: the kindle, Paperwhite, Paperwhite signature edition, and oasis. My understanding is that the Paperwhite and Paperwhite signature edition were both released in 2021. The differences between the two are that the signature edition comes standard with ads disabled and it comes standard with 32 gigabytes of storage while the regular Paperwhite comes with 8 gigabytes of storage. Hope that was helpful! 😁 Thanks again for watching!
I read on my phone and get my ebooks from a facebook group. I wanna buy the kindle for the longer battery life and to save money (I sometimes buy physical books) and larger screen but handy. But my main concern is how can I download or get my ebooks to the kindle? Does it require it to connect to a laptop first to download?
If they’re the correct format, I believe you can plug the kindle into your computer and copy the files onto it. This is talking about an old version so I’ll have to check with my new one though!
I love holding a book in my hand. The last reader I had was a nook and I loved it because I could get magazines and it had color. I am looking for a new reader that I could read mags and get the internet. What do you recommend?
Hmm… that’s tough because as far as I know, none of the big eReader manufacturers currently offer anything with color. I have heard that you can access the internet on kindle, but I have never done it personally. I have seen a few articles that have mentioned the possibility of the next kindle having a color display, but that is just a rumor at this point. It sounds like your best option may just be a tablet, as it would allow you to download the kindle app and access the internet, all while being in full color.
hey can you clarify if I can put pop socket on the back? will it damage the back with it's sticky glue when removed? it's a little heavy with the cover
Hey Muskaan, personally I’ve never put a pop socket on my kindle because I have the same concern as you - that it will leave a sticky residue when removed. I know a lot of people do use a pop socket on their kindle though and have no problems. And I think that there are probably some good ways to remove the sticky residue once you remove the pop socket, like using lemon essential oil to remove the residue. But ultimately I think it boils down to personal preference. Hope that was helpful! Thanks for watching! 😁

I got the audible and kindle apps. I got an audio book with my credit however l can not get it onto my kindle. Can you please tell me how to do this as l am obviously doing something wrong. Thank you for any help. I just can’t get it.
I'm sorry you're having trouble! If your audible account and amazon accounts are linked, your audiobooks should automatically sync to your kindle library. Is it possible that your audible account and amazon/kindle accounts are using different emails?
@@dylancanread l am from Australia and l have just found out that l can not listen to any books on my kindle from audible or audio books from kindle, that is only in the USA. Great question! The oasis and Paperwhite are both much faster than the kindle in all the ways you’ve mentioned. The basic kindle is a good device, but the Paperwhite or oasis would be a massive upgrade! 😁
Yeah, I don't know who would need 32 gigs of storage for books. I have a gigantic library of ebooks on Caliber, more books than I'll ever read in three lifetimes, and it's like 5 gigs. Also, you can always store files to the cloud in your Amazon Prime account and easily send them to your Kindle as needed. I also don't get the appeal of mechanical buttons ... just one more thing to possibly wear out and break.
The book flipping needs to be thought out more. For me it makes text books near impossible to read. Or at least to truly learn from. That’s my biggest complaint with kindle. Even kindle on iPad sucks for page flipping albeit it’s better because of the speed of the tool but on the actual kindles they are way to slow to use it at all. By the time you flip to the other page and back you’ve lost your flow and need to flip even more. It’s a vicious negative feedback loop haha.
Agreed! I think the latest version of the Paperwhite does a better job than the previous version, but there is still plenty of room for improvement! Thanks for watching 😁

The only problem i have with it is the small screen size :(
I would have loved for a 7inch screen size version of it
I had an Oasis but broke it. Now idk if I should get another Oasis (loved those buttons, but hated the charge port) or get a paperwhite
Just the regular, not the signature?
That’s a good point!
Thanks for helping me on that decision! Subscribed!
Thank you! 😁
I’m glad you love your Paperwhite signature edition! Thank you for watching! 😁
I've heard about battery problems with the Oasis. Looking closely at the Paperwhite Signature 2022. Thanks for your reviews.
Absolutely! Thank you for watching 😁
Omg my fav review, made it very transparent. Now I know which one to buy for the price. Thank you.
Thank you so much for saying that! 😁I’m glad it made your decision easier!
Thank you so much for your video!! This helped me decide on the paperwhite or oasis.📚 I have less of a headache now 😊
Glad it was helpful! 😁
I bought the new Signature edition last December and have thoroughly enjoyed it. A little pricey for my first e-reader but have had no issues except learning to use it. Technology is not my forte! I do recommend the Signature.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying your new kindle! 😁
That is some really great info! I’m glad you pointed this out, and I’m glad you enjoy your Oasis! 😁
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! 😁
How often do you have to charge it and what screen size? sounds interesting.
Hey Cathy, good point! Thanks for mentioning that. And thank you for watching! 😁
Ik some people get a pop socket and it helps a lot ill be getting a case and a popsocket👍
I got the oasis for 40% off.. it's a little bigger and has an aluminum body which i like but i miss my old Paperwhite.
Am trying to convince myself to buy the latest kindle I have a 10th gen one that's perfect but I really like the idea of a bigger screen. Just not sure that's worth the extra money. Great video thanks
Thanks for watching! Hope the video was helpful! 😁
Get a popsocket to hold the kindle! Game changer 😁
Definitely!
I have used my kindle from 2014 and it still does it’s job very well.
great vid, with your cons; im pretty sure you can jump forward/back a chapter on a kindle by swipping up/down.
Great review! Thank you ☺️
Thank you! 😁
I totally understand what you mean!
Great review!
Thank you! 😁
I got my first Kindle in 2011 version 4, then upgraded in 2012 version 5 since it had the adjustable light. I'm actually still reading on that one lol. Maybe I should upgrade.
Sounds like your kindle has held up for a while! I think some of the new features may be worth the upgrade.
Thanks for watching! 😁
My kindle is literally 10 years old (I checked) and last week I thought maybe I deserve a new one XD
Haha wow! I’m sure you’ll enjoy your new kindle if you decide to upgrade! 😁
I’m curious about of the power button and the pinkie finger 😄 What if you put on a case will your finger still press against the power button??
Hmmm…. That’s a good question! I suppose it would depend on the design of the case. That might be a great way to fix the problem though!
I have this one, love it.
The iPad mini works for me
I'm a big Manga reader and the Signature edition is perfect.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I haven’t read Manga before but have been thinking about giving it a shot. Do you have any suggestions as far as the best place to start?
@@dylancanread Depends what you like. I like Romcom , action, and harem. I'm reading Call of the night, its really good.
@@AllenE1968 awesome! I’ll check that one out. I appreciate the suggestion!
I’m thinking of buying kindle for reading books but I’m not sure about the storage yet since I’m a manga reader as well, I heard that some people didn’t like the experience of reading manga on kindle what do you think? cuz I’m already reading manga on my iPad so I don’t know if it’s worth it or not
“usb-c is becoming the standard”
*stares at iPhone*
LOL true
For the awkward holding stuff , get a pop socket
Yes! You can download your audible library to your kindle and listen with Bluetooth headphones!
@@dylancanread thanks. I'm sold. 👍
This is a great review. Keep pushing
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that 😁
Does the newest Kindle Paperwhite fit the cover for my previous Kindle Paperwhite? Interesting information!
Thanks that’s good to know
To your con of how to hold it…… my brain went to a pop socket. Is that dumb? 😂 also quick question, can I assume you can bump up the font size? I’d like to up the font size so I can skip the reading glasses before bed. Thanks! Sincerely,
The girl who is shopping for her first e-reader
@@amthystxx thank you 😊 and I did get a kindle. Loving it so far. Went to the library and updated my library card so I can use Libby. So far so good!
Does it read back to you
Yes! If you purchase or borrow a book with audio included, your kindle will playback the audio through a Bluetooth speaker or wireless headphones!
Right on brother! My kindle also changed my life! Geat Vid
Thank you! 😁
Why is the screen flashing when you touch it? I’ve seen a lot of people complain about it.
Hmm… I’m not sure!
i’ve been watching many videos to convince me to buy a kindle! but if you don’t mind me asking! are ads usually annoying while reading or is there an option to disable ads
Thanks for watching! Fortunately, ads are confined to the Lock Screen so they don’t interfere with the reading at all!
What is it like to read a 600-page biography on the Kindle Paperwhite? Am I better off buying the hard copy version?
That’s a great question! Personally, for a book that size, I think the kindle is convenient if you plan to read on the go, or have limited shelf space!
Think imma stick to books. Great video tho ❤️
Thank you! 😁
So big difference between the paper white and paper white signature edition is the memory? 🤔
Awesome video, very descriptive! :)
Thank you for watching! 😁
Wish pictures were in color . Everything is only black and white!
There’s also the Kindle Paperwhite Kids’ version 🧐🤔
Personally, I like smaller devices. As in, something I could fit in a pocket 📏🤔🧐
Just got a Nook GlowLight 4 because of this size requirement 👍🏽😍👍🏽
That’s true! I didn’t think to mention the kids version. I hope you enjoy the Nook! 😁
Can't wait!
That was a really smart move! I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far!
What about the kindle paperwhite signature edition vs? Does the new paperwhite 2022 adds free?
Since Brandon Sanderson was born 🤣🤣 true
Hi
Do you know when the nw version of year 1011 coming pls
I have basic 10th Gen kindle it still works fine but a little slow and know I'm really considering upgrading to the 11 Gen kindle paperwhite.

I think I would like the smaller kindle paper white, because you don't want a huge tablet in your hand
In fact if you have these things to read, everyone is like the other, so the cheaper is the best.
hey can you clarify if I can put pop socket on the back? will it damage the back with it's sticky glue when removed? it's a little heavy with the cover
@@dylancanread hey man that was indeed very helpful thankyou so much Dylan!

Hi Dylan, l was lucky enough to get my first ever kindle for Christmas. It is a kindle paperwhite 11th generation. Due to low vision l need to listen to books not read.
Thanks for the video . May i ask if the higher end of the kindles would be faster ( scrolling, page refreshing , faster response to touch , less web surfing crashes than the the standard kindle ?I've got the standard kindle . Thanks , please let me know . 😇🥳🥳
Great question! The oasis and Paperwhite are both much faster than the kindle in all the ways you’ve mentioned. The basic kindle is a good device, but the Paperwhite or oasis would be a massive upgrade! 😁
@@dylancanread oh faster even they are of same gen?
Yeah, I don't know who would need 32 gigs of storage for books. I have a gigantic library of ebooks on Caliber, more books than I'll ever read in three lifetimes, and it's like 5 gigs. Also, you can always store files to the cloud in your Amazon Prime account and easily send them to your Kindle as needed. I also don't get the appeal of mechanical buttons ... just one more thing to possibly wear out and break.
Agreed! I actually never thought about the possibility of the buttons becoming a problem later on. That’s a really great point!
The higher memory are for those who download their audio books to the device
Wow, I almost bought Kindle but as soon as you said ads that was a no go.
It is kind of crazy that they display ads on a device you’ve paid for! But, in my “Kindle Tips and Tricks” video, I do offer a way to eliminate ads for free!
Thanks for watching, Trent 😁
@@dylancanread I found out that us Canadians don't have them, at least not yet. Apparently they're only on the home screen. I thought my reading may be interrupted by ads. If it's only offers and such on the home screen, that wouldn't be a showstopper.
