I just want to share that I did chat with an amazon representative when I received my device, asking how to remove the ads on my kindle. After telling me they will remove it at a cost, the rep asked me if im willing to pay. I asked for the price and told him that i will think about it and chat them again. That's when he mentioned about the "surprise" information that my kindle is eligible for a free ads removable. I think asking nicely is the key :)

Thank you, I hated those ads. My wife reads smut books so there were half naked guys on my kindle every time I opened it. I asked Amazon to remove the ads for free and they did. Thanks again.
The no ads thing worked for me as well! The customer service person asked me if I lived in the US, and then proceeded to tell me that it will cost $20. But then immediately followed up with this: "As you're located within the US, as an one-time exception, I'll unsubscribe your Kindle from Special Offers free of cost." Thank you for the tip! Ex Amazon agent here, most agents will probably do it because they need the good rating at the end of the chat in order to get paid a bit more, because they are underpaid. If you are treated with respect, please take the time to rate the conversation.
This worked for me too. I mentioned (in chat) I just bought the new version of Kindle Paperwhite and had ads-free on my previous one. They verified the name of the Kindle in my account and *boom* they did it for free 😀Thanks Dylan! I did a review at the end of the chat to give the agent top marks.

I tried to buy the ad free Kindle but it wouldn't let me. The checkout refused to deliver to a US address. In the Pacific North West. A few miles from Amazon headquarters.
Quite frustrating. I had to resort to buying the ad version.
Oh my gosh. I was hesitant to try the ad removal tip because I’ve had my oasis for quite some time now. But I went ahead and tried it out, used the chat feature, I didn’t even have to ASK, I just said I needed help removing the ads and the rep did it for me free of charge! Incredible lol thank you so much for this tip. For this alone you earned a subscription.

Another great thing about the kindle is you can borrow ebooks from your local library. A friend told me about this year's ago and I've since read hundreds of books for free!

How did you get to do this? I've heard of connecting the Kindle to Libby but you need a library card.
@@ginkiha8655yep! You can go to your local public library to get a free library card and learn how to access Libby with your kindle.

@@ginkiha8655do you have a local library you can join? If so, take your ID and a bill with your name on it, for example, a utility bill. The local library can set you up with an on-line account and show you how to use it to check out e-books and have them delivered to your kindle. :-) free!
I am using my new kindle to read in a language that I am learning, so the vocabulary builder feature will be so useful.
I have set my kindle basic to landscape display because I find holding it with the bottom edge in my left hand easiest, and it's much easier to avoid accidentally touching the screen. I added a popsocket to it and it is an even more secure grip
Love the vocabulary builder! For books in foreign language, the vocabulary builder will actually give you the translation in English when you use the flash card function. Great tool for language learning (used it on my 2020? Kindle oasis)

I was thinking this when Dylan said that there was no use of the vocabulary builder for fiction books (I read a lot of books in japanese). xD
Since I learned about the feature, I've been using it every day for studying the language I'm learning. Very cool

I just got a Kindle this week and after watching your video, I messaged Amazon customer service and asked if there was any way to remove ads. They removed them no questions asked! It took less than 2 minutes. Now it's time to go spend that $20 on some books!

Thank you for the useful tips, especially the ad removal one! I actually hadn't heard of some of them before. So I opened Amazon chat, politely asked if it was possible to remove the ads from my Kindle, the representative asked me to wait a moment while they looked into it, and within a minute the ads were removed from my device, no questions asked! I wonder if they really "looked into" some criteria my account met, or if they just went ahead with the removal, but thank you for saving me $20 :)

Good content. I have own kindle for years so I know much of your tips. However, the advice on how to turn off the ads on my kindle was something I never thought of doing! I did what you said and it worked. Thanks a lot for that!
4:43 specifically for x-ray if you highlite a word, where it normally pops up with dictionary definition/wiki info etc (in case you didn't know this, super useful especially for complex words or if you aren't too familiar with the language you are reading in) if there is x-ray related to it it will pop up with that first. SUPER useful when you're reading books like GoT that have way too many characters i can just highlite a name and quickly remind myself who that person is.

Recently got a kindle and stumbled upon this video, everything was helpful throughout the video to help me get to know my kindle better, contacted the customer service and they removed the ads as you said! Awesome tip :)
I changed the region from USA to MX and the ads were gone.

Awesome tips, the book cover display option was new to me. Id just add for those studying other languages, if you download a bilingual dictionary and set it as your default, it is a wonderful way to look up words you dont know as you read. Fir example with japanese the progressive dictionary works great that way. And separate from that is the translate option that will translate bigger blocks of selected text. Neither are perfect, but maybe 85-90% so I have found them super helpful

As a digital artist, that screen shot feature is going to be great if I want to do some coloring. Totally give the original artist credit for their artwork, but I like to color illustrations sometimes. He didn't mention that I could listen to audiobooks on this device and that I could pair it with wireless headphones. Love that. I'm planning on exchanging the bulk of my physical library for audiobooks and ebooks when I can't get the audios. So, definately getting the Kindle Paperwhite Signature. Wish it did come with a color screen though. Regular books that won't be a problem, but if I check out a comic book, I think it would be great to see the colors on the pages.
That’s true! It would be amazing if the screen was colorized. Maybe one day in the future.

Kindle Fire, gives you the features of a regular Kindle, but with color display. The screen is more like a tablet screen, but they do have a blue light blocking setting that helps if your eyes get strained or tired from looking at computer screens. It’s great for comic books and graphic novels.

For removing the ads a good tip is to mention you bought it for your child and don't want them to see ads. Worked twice for me

I'm on my 3rd Kindle (over many years). Never even realised they had ads. Maybe because I'm in Australia and they don't worry about the 8 people who live here.
A constant connection is really useful for WhisperSync, if you move between reading on the Kindle and listening on Audible - which I actually do, for new releases of books I am really interested in.
Most of the time it can be in Airplane Mode though.

I actually get distracted by the clock showing on the screen while I read. I find it easier to just swipe down when I want to check the time. But I love that we get the option! This is the first time I see a video of yours and I loved your energy! So, new subscriber :)

I just got my first kindle (paperwhite) today. And, I tried the chat tip to get ads removed. Worked perfectly! I simply stated that I was a big prime user, and that a friend had said I could ask for this - and mentioned I felt awkward even asking. They just had me verify serial number, and did it with no questions asked. Appreciate this very much!

Great tips! Just ordered a new Kindle and they offer a small trade-in allowance for your old one even if not working properly. They give you a pre-paid shipping label. Pretty good policy.

I just contacted Amazon via the chat feature and asked if there was any way to have the ads removed from my Kindle. The customer service rep. advised me there was a $20 charge to remove the ads and asked if I would like to pay the fee and have the ads removed. I said I needed to think about it. The rep asked me to give them a moment and they returned and said they would remove the ads without charging me the fee. Before I even ended the chat with the rep, the ads had been removed from my Kindle. Thank you Dylan! You're awesome for not gatekeeping this tip.😊

I got my ads removed too. Thanks! I told the chat rep that I got my Kindle for Christmas, and I was worried removing ads would charge the person who gave it to me. They removed ads at no charge without any questions. I was also very polite like another commenter mentioned.

I'm a big fan of 'Refresh screen when turning page' I feel there can be a little bit of washout in the text and the white background doesn't necessarily go back to as white without it. I don't know what the downside is. Lower MTBF? Less battery life? If it is just less battery life, well I have a Qi charge pad on my bedside table. I do not believe there is much additional page turn delay on a Paperwhite Signature. In Australia we don't have an ad-supported version. I would have probably paid the extra either way.
Hey Matt, great thoughts! I believe the only downside to constant refresh is that it negatively affects battery life. But as you said, charging once every 5 weeks instead of once every 6 weeks isn’t that big of a trade off.
