Greg Coates is a phenomenal player!
I have a 1976 Fender P-Bass natural finish body and yes, they are boat anchors.
In 1978 at age 14, i worked at a music shop after school. We were a Travis Bean and Kramer dealer (Gibson & Ibanez too). We had the Travis Bean and Kramer aluminum neck bass guitars as well as 6 strings. Also carried ibanez basses and the Gibson Rippers etc. THEY ALL WEIGHED A TON. everything in the late 70's was a boat anchor. Very bizarre time
Still have some of these Fender P-Basses. They do sound deep and huge! Thanks for doing this video.
I've got one and had it since new..the same year.. colour. Its sounds huge... But. It weighs 14 lbs.
Perfect punk bass. Always the best bass demos Mr. Greg!
Hair matches the body and pickguard matches the t shirt. These are campements. The compliments relate to Greg demonstrating what sounds you can get out of the bass.
Bass sick Lee.
Lemmo you're a friendly humble host who plays guitars swell.
Greg is a great player. Smart move having him playing the basses instead of Lemmo.
Yeah but I think it'd be fun to see Lemmo playing bass tho 😁
Fantastic bass playing. 👏👏👏
Always fun watching Greg review a bass…he’s a great player, alway provides interesting info on every bass he plays!
JEEBUS GREG !!!
Picks up an old 78 Precision, stock, and goes.... DAMN !!!
Pleasure to listen to. I've watched it 3 times now. So seriously cool. Greg Coates needs to be a permanent 'Thump'in Thursday' addition.
Norm? Hello Norm? I perusing your Reverb site because of this guy Greg. I want a bass again. Greg makes it fun, and cool...again.
Mark A and Michael always have shied away from bass. Do a Todd W move and move Greg to a regular Thumping Thursday.
Just watching Greg's demos has made me a better guitar player. So many times I have said, I didn't know you could do that.
(:
Great demo Coates. I dig how you play killer tunes we've all heard, giving the viewer a sampling of what the bass can do with some serious talent behind it. A lot of bass players pick out something ultra eclectic and try too hard to impress other bass players, and the demo just falls flat.
I need a "double thumbs" up button
Hey the hair does match...Great Playing as always, old school kool 🎸
Awesome playing Greg, I could listen to you rip it up like that all afternoon. Love how you played recognizable stuff you'd expect to hear on an old P bass BTW, what a great concept!
Great demo as usual! Love The Trooper!
Greg you always bring me back to these awesome Thumpin Thursdays! Great playing and awesome basses! However! Gotta do a Maton!
Sounded good!
Wow really nice
Killer sounds
Nice demo.
Nice one. Makes me think s Fender employee took it home, with such nice wood grain(s).
Greg, you killed that Harris gallop, and your crack about being a see-through blonde made me laugh out loud. Fender needs to pull you in for some demos, too!
I bought the same exact bass used a few years back.It is either a 78 or a 79.Nobody seems to be able to date if for sure.Mine is one of the HEAVY ones but all original and plays great! The finish is very very cracked though.Pretty ugly. Was a great pawn shop find. They didn't know what they had.
Amazing as always! Greg play some Cliff era Metallica next time!
I love my '78 p-bass..mine is white with rosewood fretboard.. checked to all hell and has yellowed out nicely.. definitely a player.. not a collector
When did they go to 4 bolt neck. I had a 77 with 3 bolt
Reminds me of Matt Freeman's bass.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THAT BASS AND THAT VIDEO!! The new owner musts be happy. And Greg, dude you are a legend! I really like your style
That P-Bass is almost the spitting image of one that was *ripped off* of a former colleague here in New York City.
Soundgarden 🔥
RIIIGHT???!!!
In a league all their own
Bit of doors there la woman
Sounds almost as good as my 1980 Tokai Hard Puncher in sunburst, maple board. The Hard Puncher has a light 3 piece sen ash body.
Those are GREAT basses, huge fan of the Japanese builders!
👌
Iron Maiden to open it up. Steve Harris is a monster on bass. Can’t wait to see them again on October.
Any pedals or just through an amp?
Was running through an Ibanez Tube King compressor just mildly squished-I normally run through another pedalboard so I have a tuner etc, but it was locked up at a rehearsal spot,so I brought that pedalboard instead.
Sounded GREAT for the Stingray I did,but maybe not AS good for the other three basses I did that day.
Def need my regular board, more transparent sounding.
What amp r u using?
Ampeg SVT with 8x10s
Greg what size speakers are in that Ampeg
That’s an 8x10” vintage SVT cabinet, likely has the CTS square magnetic drivers.
@@gregcoates4281 The best bass amp ever! 🖐🎤
P Bass with matching musician! LOL
That "Amp Noise" sounds like someone breathing through a mask. Jen?
only happens on Thursday's ? she say's she like's blondes... lol
Jen I can hear your heavy breathing lol
