As a life agent studying for P&C right now, I can say that's illegal for an insurer to refuse to pay claims because a car is driven in another state. The only exceptions would be if a shell company is used to make it look like a company car (New Hampshire company car driven in CA is obviously not driven for company use -> no claim paid). Otherwise, a company policy on a car for company use WOULD be paid out even if driven in another state. Personal policies will pay the minimum of rates in the state the issue occurred, maximum of whatever coverage was purchased, at no additional cost. Also it is illegal to falsify your address and say you live in another state. Since you have to update your address, the insurer will always know where you live; however, purchasing insurance from a New Hampshire company and providing your CA address is entirely legal. It is up to the pools these insurers belong to consider geographics & determine your final rates.

Dear 🍩, thanks for just reminding me of how rich people skirt laws. Now I'll take my broke self back to depressionsville. Peace and keep up the good vids
It should be instructive on why people shouldn't vote in laws that end up only applying to the "little people", not the wealthy or politicians. If everyone just left each other alone instead of busy bodying the world would be a much better place.
It's not just "rich people." Anyone can do it if you live in an area with unreasonably high taxes. It's even easier if you live in a military town because almost everyone has an out of state tag so "Johnny Law" doesn't bat an eye at a car tagged in Oklahoma that's frequently driving around in central Kansas. I may or may not have done this as a form of protest for our local 10% sales tax on ALL purchases including vehicles. Sorry Government, but I'm not paying $2300 in taxes +$400 in registration fees on my modest used vehicle, plus the outrageous $300 annual property tax/renewal fees on that same vehicle. I paid only $970 for EVERYTHING in a neighboring state, & my annual renewal is only $80. I pay that same amount to tag my 1990 Jeep in my home state.. The major takeaway from this video should be taxes suck, and we pay the Gov WAY too much of our hard earned dough, & get nothing, but hassled in return.
Insurance agent here, a lot of companies will not insurance vehicles that are in different states other than the registered state. Companies have caught onto this and it poses a huge risk. Good luck!

The problem with a Porsche is the ticket you will get for doing 170 MPH will cost almost as much as the car.
So is that the way not to pay the 4.5% car property tax in VA ?????!?!?
Montana also has some of the highest insurance premiums in the country.
Not to mention, you either have to tell your insurance company that the car is driven, stored, and parked almost exclusively in your state but has Montana plates in the name of a sham LLC (good luck getting insurance!) or lie on your application and hope you never have to make a claim (because it *will* get denied if they get even a whiff of a falsified application)...

In Mexico we have the same situation, if you have the opportunity to travel to Mexico pr watch videos of cars in Mexico, pay attention and you will see the luxury cars like Audi, BMW’s, Mercedes and super cars like Porsche, Ferrarari, Lamborguini, etc. Have plates from determined states: Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala. I lived in Massachusetts a few years back. I have a 29-foot travel trailer that I used to keep at a friends house in Vermont. When my friends couldn't keep the trailer there any more, I moved my trailer to my daughter's house in New Hampshire and started staying there on the weekends to help her out since she's disabled. I then changed my mailing address to her house, got NH plates, and then notified my insurance company of the move. I was amazed that my insurance in NH is only a third of MA. I still live in the rented room during the week but go to my daughters house on the weekends. And since I'm a contractor living over 100 miles from where I work, I can pull per diem and make some serious money.

In Virginia, particularly in Northern Virginia, they have cracked down on people who don't register their cars in the state. It is actually illegal here and can get a person in trouble for tax evasion.

Don’t need to avoid emissions testing and inspections when you already live in a state with none of these!
