Well, easy. Just go to "Car Control" -> "Gears" -> "Shift gears". Enter the 2 on the numerical pad, push Enter, click Yes on "Accept change", and then click Accept on the liability waiver for going into a dengerous gear.
Thank you thank you thank you for calling out GM for wanton reverse lights. This drives me insane every time I encounter it in the wild, which is usually when I’m waiting for someone to back out of a parking spot before realizing they’re just sitting there or walking to their car. I never ever want to go near the driver seat of a car that shifts with anything besides a stick. Holy fuck, we need some kind of law mandating that all cars must use sticks to shift and any other device needs to be proven to be an upgrade
It's honestly a big part of the reason I bought a Ford instead of a Dodge. Give me a lever that is physically connected to the shift linkage, not a knob that tells the computer to move a solenoid that is connected to the same linkage that the lever used to connect to. The worst I've seen is Mercedes, the shifter is on like a turn signal style stalk on the steering column. Everyone I work with took like 5 minutes to even find it and most guys have accidentally bumped it into neutral a bunch of times going for the turn signal.

Hi there, tech here, talked to a GM engineer a while back and he actually explained the whole "reverse lights on for 2 minutes" gag, he said it was because GM asked them to come up with a way that an owner could check all of their lights without help from anyone else. However, due to time restraints and budget worries, they didn't make it a feature on the fob, as the original plan was to put it on the fob as a Exterior Light Check button, or to have a button on the inside to achieve the same effect. Instead, they just set it up in the computer to initiate "Exterior Light Check" mode every time the car is either shut off or locked (depending on the year or model you own), and thus the fake reverse lights were born. GM just uses them still today because, while annoying, they aren't a major safety concern, and the computer systems inside the cars have remained relatively unchanged over the years.
My big gripe is day time running lights and how they don't enable the rear lights, only front. I've seen so many people driving after dark with their 'automatic daytime running lights' but no rear lights. If you're going to enable lights automatically ENABLE THEM ALL.
Completely agree - how stupid to just have DRLs at the front, it can’t be that hard or expensive to include the rears. Unless the reason is that they could be mistaken for brake lights. OK, so don’t drive so close!!
I have to agree with the old NPR Car Talk personalities Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers (RIP Tom), when I say: bring back the "wing windows" on the doors. You know, the ones where you could hang your fingers through the little lock tab, which would break your fingers off your hand if you had a quick stop. But being able to open that window all the way, if you could get it around your side view mirrors, and direct that flow of air right into the cab... so nice!
“Way too many cupholders are bad.” Koenigsegg Gemera: “I have 8 cupholders, 4 hot ones and 4 cold ones, split up, 1 half the back, 1 in the front. Whadda’ ya’ think bout’ that huh?”
So glad u brought up GM’s reverse lights staying on.. I can’t tell if someone is tryna back out of a spot.. And most times there’s nobody in the f***ing car!
I hate this stupid feature as well, it's supposed to be a lighting feature similar to having the headlights stay on so you can see where you're going after you've parked your car. The proper solution would be the one used in several pickup trucks over the years, just have the computer keep a set of cargo lamps on located in the third brake light housing, it would provide the same basic lighting and not get confused with the reverse lights. Doesn't really surprise me to see GM doing such stupid things, they'd be too cheap to add a couple of cargo lights to the third brake light on the crossovers/SUVs. Another solution that comes to mind would be using the license plate lights for this purpose. Having the reverse lights come on for any other reason than being in reverse is technically illegal I believe, but I don't think that applies to parking lots.
And you sometimes look like a jackass holding up a small lineup of vehicles because you were either courteous to let someone out or take their spot. It's similar to blue balls I swear.
That is a very common problem I seen since elementary school, there was at least once I saw not only were the standard reverse lights permanently on but also an additional set of accessory lights used as reverse lights also permanently on meaning that it's the wiring that got broken. Probably the funkiest thing I have seen a long time ago.
3:12 the “fake reverse lights” are lighting for when you get out of the car. i used to live in the woods so it would get really dark outside at night. when i would come home i wouldn’t be able to see anything. my 2015 chevy sonic rs comes with this feature but it’s not just reverse lights. it’s every exterior light. you can go to car settings to shut it off if you desperately need to, or you can change the time. 30 sec, 60 sec, 120 sec. the more you know.
Neat explanation of why the feature exists.. But it shouldn't be on by default, people who need it should turn it on, not the majority who don't need it needing to turn it off
I saw a Toyota CH-R in white, so i took a picture for you:- images.fun.com.au/products/45255/1-1/the-last-jedi-first-order-stormtrooper-replica-helmet.jpg
Would like to have turn signals moved back to the sides of the vehicle so you can tell if you can make a turn or cross the street without having the end of the car pointed directly towards you. But this would also require more drivers to fallow the traffic laws and apply the turn signal before they are almost done with the turn, or in many cases, many of my family members included, even using their signal lamps in the first place.
If only they could've seen that only 2 years into the future, BMW would charge a premium for an even more absurd set of "features". Heated seats, and the full usage of your engine...
In my opinion, the problem of touch screen is that it requires you to look at what are you pressing, which is distracting and dangerous. I like old school physical button because you know where is everything.

I got a 2011 Skoda roomster and the UI is really intuitive. Without moving my eyes from the road I can adjust the AC from the knobs in the dashboard and turn down the radio volume from a knob in the radio part. It's actually really cool feature and I hope more auto manufacturers will implement that to the cars in the future.
If it's anything like the lane departure and backup sensor features in most cars nowadays you should be able to disable it for this exact reason. Our 2013 Escape had the backup sensor feature, it would also go off with a bike rack but it could be disabled. Not sure if RAB will let you disable it.
Some douche bag backed into my parked car with his truck that had the camera and the warning sensors. At the end of the day you can't fix stupid even with a mountain of smart.
That's less about the type of light, and more about people not taking the time to get in their engine bay and tweak them. Donut had a video on this, a while back.
Yep let's everybody get a lifted turbodiesel when you live downtown and you can't park the damn things and you're blinding everyone with your halogen fuck bulbs
Acura really needs to have some type of presale headlight leveling. I used to love driving at night (especially being from Texas), but it's become the most miserable time to travel for me.
"Until driving is fully automated, social media belongs nowhere near a vehicle." Very true words. Social media is becoming increasingly annoying as it is and if included in a car now, road accidents are sure to increase. I also don't like the fact that so many physical things are now dependant on a touchscreen. Just keep things simple. I bought a car recently and I specifically bought one with a manual transmission and no touchscreen BS, because that's how a car should be.
The most annoying thing in reality are the head lights with the maximum brightness that exists for some reason... Mainly to annoy the driver in front of you....
This is a new thing. Click bate all the you tube vids uploaded in Dezember habe a fault in them. I'm sure on porpose. A shame I used to love this show. This is how we all know that that mistake was scripted. There would have been a edit by now
My favorite part of the touchscreens are the warning. “Looking at this screen for too long while driving can cause accidents”. My car doesn’t have gps so like bruh, who is staring at the screen?
Even worse, CUVs that are just hatchbacks with a taller roofline and black plastic body trim, no extra utility or ground clearance. Yet people buy them because "it's like an SUV I feel safer in it" and pay $5000 more on it than an equivalent hatchback. So you see why companies do it, it's extra money for them at no cost.
Pick-ups are perfectly fine. People buying pick-ups when they have no need for one is cancer. Then they ride around town alone in their brand new F-350 aircraft carrier with absolutely nothing in it.
For me, the worst offender of the safety popup is the 2015 Land Rover Evoque. You can't even play music from your phone while the car is moving!!!! I have a great exclusion of "new car less sound", the 2020 Jaguar F-pace. We used it as a family car for a while and the exhaust literally pops and bangs stock.
I miss 15" wheels & tires that actually had sidewalls, cars had better clearance and didn't ride like a wagon on rough road, tires had more tread & lasted a lot longer too...
Just wait until Apple releases cars. Then you will have to pay $1000 for the glovebox. Of course, after the addition 5k that you spent on optional items like an engine, steering wheel, and brakes.
Dude I couldn't agree with you more. Automatics have no soul, and I don't care how many tenths they add on the quarter mile. My big gripe is day time running lights and how they don't enable the rear lights, only front. I've seen so many people driving after dark with their 'automatic daytime running lights' but no rear lights. If you're going to enable lights automatically ENABLE THEM ALL.
Hey man, we have to have some indication that a driver is stupid before they end up driving, well, stupidly.

But being able to open that window all the way, if you could get it around your side view mirrors, and direct that flow of air right into the cab... so nice!

So glad u brought up GM’s reverse lights staying on.. I can’t tell if someone is tryna back out of a spot.. And most times there’s nobody in the f***ing car!
yes! This should honestly be banned so it doesnt spread to other cars. the reverse lights shouldn't ever turn on unless you are reversing.
F
And you sometimes look like a jackass holding up a small lineup of vehicles because you were either courteous to let someone out or take their spot. It's similar to blue balls I swear.
That is a very common problem I seen since elementary school, there was at least once I saw not only were the standard reverse lights permanently on but also an additional set of accessory lights used as reverse lights also permanently on meaning that it's the wiring that got broken. Probably the funkiest thing I have seen a long time ago.
"i didnt get enough air as a fetus and now i deny it to my car " lol XD

Would like to have turn signals moved back to the sides of the vehicle so you can tell if you can make a turn or cross the street without having the end of the car pointed directly towards you. SUVs. SUVs everywhere. For me, this is the worst trend.
