SRAVAN S the luxury variant you’re referring to is most likely to be a 320i or 320d. The sportier one you’re referring to is a 330i and is a lot more powerful

Simple way to break it down... BMW: M and M performance real, M sport styling (with suspension upgrades), Xdrive is AWD, Sdrive is RWD. Audi: S and RS real, S Line styling, quarto is AWD Ford: RS and ST real, ST line styling Vauxhall/opel VXR real, VX Line styling. Mercedes: AMG real, AMG line styling. Volkswagen: GTI and R real, R line styling. Renault: RS real, GT line styling Jaguar: R and S real, R Sport and S Sport are styling and soft tweeks. Alfa Romeo: GTA and Quadrafolio real Fiat: Abarth... Bit of both dependant on models over the years. Volvo: polestar real, R-design styling. Skoda: VRs real, sport line styling. Seat: Cupra real, FR is trim but with a few luke warm engine options and sportier dampers. Peugeot: GTI real, GT Line styling. Citroën: VTS (discontinued) real, VTR has hot hatch looks but only minor improvements. Mini: JCW works and GP real, Cooper S a few tweaks and a few extra ponies, Cooper just styling. Anything outside of Europe I'd just be guessing, but it's safe to say add "line" to anything and it seems to just be marketing. Also its worth considering rules and regulations change country to country so local markets may have different restrictions and therefore have to have different marketing strategies, for example handling in some countries is more important than massive power gains so not all tweaks are about the engine.

For part 2, TRD should be included. It’s been diluted an ok amount, TRD US is heavily diluted, but TRD is still making very good aftermarket parts for Toyota’s road cars, such as a lot of their parts for the ZN6
@@romiarkan450 no idea why I never replied, but technically they aren’t the same. GR existed as a separate brand in the mid 2000’s, and they helped Lexus with the LFA when Toyota themselves didn’t really want to take part. They also had their own race team. But since they have started to become super competitive with their GR team, Toyota started picking them up (since GR literally had Akiyo Toyoda as their boss), and since then they have kinda pushed aside the TRD name and it’s more of a joint between the two, which is weird because (at least for the ZN8 chassis) TRD has parts labeled as TRD yet have a GR badge on them.
@Golden Auto do they actually have any performance modifications? The Camry just has red seatbelts and a aero kit, who cares about a Sequia, and all the Tacomas have are just an exhaust, intake, and suspension. I think Audi actually does 'performance' badges better than most brands. Clear tiers between A>S>RS and S Line to me implies that you get what most people notice from these higher end vehicles, without having to worry about more stringent upkeep
Same opinion here. Audi kept it quite clean and found a way to make good extra bucks by offering a more sporty trim for normal cars. A S or RS Logo will only be found on the performance cars. On exterior and interior. Else it always states SLine without mentioning the specific car either. Biggest commitment goes actually to the RS exhaust which is always oval for like ever since the RS Models exist.

"Nolan-baby" you forgot to mention the worst badge dishonor/scam for the sake of sales of all time. The all-electric 4 door crossover called a "Mustang"
It’s not about performance, it’s about heritage. The Mustang has been a front-engine, RWD car with an optional V8 trim for the 55 years its been in production. The reason people accept the C8 (or not, depending on who you talk to) is because the guy who reinvigorated the Corvette in the 50’s was trying to make it mid-engined for years. GM has test mules for a mid-engined Vette, while Ford hasn’t done anything in the past to indicate that they would do this. Thankfully, Ford will keep making the Mustang the way they have been for the past few decades: a front-engine, gasoline-powered car with an optional V8. I’m not hating on EVs, by the way, I’m kinda circling back to the argument I mentioned at the beginning. It’s all about heritage.

Exactly...that made me a little mad. It’s not just a sportier steering wheel and lowering springs when it comes to M performance cars they have totally different engines, exhausts, tunes, etc. I’d like this guy to drive a M340 and a 330i back to back and tell me the only difference is a steering wheel. For a channel this big I’d expect a little more research, or perhaps they disregarded this information to make their points seem a little more strong. And the new 2020 M550s have over 500hp.
M performance is "just" sportier look, steering, suspension and brakes. I wouldn't count engine as the part of M performance package. But still, imho it's good, to have something between M-car and normal series. M240i is a great car, but not just as extreme as M2. It's more daily driving - friendly, but sporty at the same time.
Scrytheux why wouldn’t you count the engine as part of the package when the engines that are in the M-Performance cars are pretty much only sold in M-Performance cars. Like the M240i, the only way to get a B58 in a 2-series is to purchase an M240i. The only way to get a B58 in an X3 or X4 is to purchase an X3 / X4 M40i.
The "M performance" is a trim level option in BMW, you can get a 330i with the M performance option wich give you a sportier suspension, variable sport steering, the M steering wheel and some design changes. But even with that option it's not a real M car since it doesn't have the same engine that is on the 340i
The thing with Mercedes is they don’t write amg just for having amg interior and packaging... it only says amg on the back for true amgs! Great video though
incorrect. There is a thing called the AMG appearance package, which basically every Indian in one county here in VA gets. Source: I am an Indian in the county right next to it
Haven‘t you ever seen a shitty mercedes with an amg badge? I did, it is not difficult to buy fake badges on the internet. They cost like 5$ and you have different kinds (motor badge, side badges, the original amg back badge and so on...) 😂✌️
In addition to some other performance badges mentioned in other comments, you also forgot Lexus' F Sport. It's kind of a mixed bag, ranging from the true performance of models like the IS F and LFA, to some light performance and cosmetic upgrades to models like the IS 350, to a cosmetic-only trim level on models like the CT 200h. Generally, the rule is that, when an "F" replaces the usual 3-digit number in the model name, that's a true performance car (like a BMW M3), while the F Sport package or trim level is a lesser upgrade that usually doesn't affect power/acceleration (like BMW's M Performance or M Sport).
I don't see how that is a watering down, as many people think. Since the IS F or LS F are still F cars, other ones are not F cars, but merely, F-styled cars. Like the bmw M-sport doesn't claim to be an M car, just M-styled. To me that still keeps the M badge intact, since M and M-style is, at least to me, clearly different

Although, yes, you can get AMG trim on just about every Mercedes model the vehicle still does not get the AMG badge. The only vehicles with an AMG badge are AMG vehicles. However, not all are hand built engines but at the same time the C43 is substantially more car than a C300 in every aspect.

As an owner of a BMW M240i, I agree, the M Lites are watering down the M brand. In some cases (especially the SUVs) they are basically the same thing in pure power numbers, though in other models, they offer a big jump with major component upgrades as well offering some drivetrain options not even available as options on the full M. I do wish they gave it another badge though to keep the M line pure, but I guess marketing disagrees. 🤷♂️
I was hoping you'd keep going on to Cadillac, who does this with the V-Sport but atleast the normal Vs are higher in performance, and straight up to Dodge, who is the most consistent out of all the brands. If its an SRT its an SRT, pure performance.
M Performance BMW’s like the M140i and the M340i and even the MX235i are all significantly faster than their non M counterparts ie a 120i. The m sport spec is the thing you should have gone after as you can have a 116d with m sport which is purely aesthetic in the same way the amg line is. The M340i is the same to an M3 as a C43 amg is to the C63 amg, both not the full works but still significantly faster and improved over standard M sport or amg line cars. M performance cars are great. As for M sport, well it’s nice to have an every day practical car that looks great without having to get an M but yeah they should have found a way to do that without labelling it M and devaluing the performance image of the M brand.
My neighbour has an X3 with an M badge. And it's a diesel. Folks tell me that M,AMG and RS badges had a lot of exclusivity in the 90s and early 2000s. Not now though.

Exactly. RS, S and Quattro mean something performance wise. S line is the cosmetics package.
I drive an B8.5 S4 and I cringed when he mentioned Audi

But on the other side even i'm not sure what the hell were they smoking when they made SQ's.
brainblasta2 Quattro is the drivetrain he’s right I have an Audi
Keith Flagg he’s not right about quattro badges being applied to a car and then being no different from a regular car. An A4 with quattro is clearly different performance wise from an A4 without quattro. It’s not just badging.

Yup, the addition of the word “line” to a badge warrants caution. It means you get the looks w/o performance. To appreciate the EdST, you need to compare it the other Edge trims. EdST is definitely more performance-oriented over the Titanium.

Unfortunately it is N as in nerd. It inamed for the home city of their R&D, Namyang. It is probably the stupidest letter used for performance

840i has 340hp and M850i has 530hp
750i has 530hp and M760i has 585hp
(These are european numbers)
An average of 120hp more than the not-M performance models!
Except the 7 series is a little bit weaker I’ll admit
But even with that option it's not a real M car since it doesn't have the same engine that is on the 340i
Scrytheux That’s the M Sport package. M Performance cars are different.
“The R means this car is fast, but can you get close enough to see it??”

The thing with Mercedes is they don’t write amg just for having amg interior and packaging... it only says amg on the back for true amgs! Great video though
incorrect. There is a thing called the AMG appearance package, which basically every Indian in one county here in VA gets.

my boss has an "amg" hybrid.

@@maoristereo the focus RS is a hybrid, so what?

Krishan Ladwa exactly, he says they have virtually no performance increase. 125i has 215bhp and the m140 has 340bhp, this guy has no idea what he’s on about.
Although, yes, you can get AMG trim on just about every Mercedes model the vehicle still does not get the AMG badge. The only vehicles with an AMG badge are AMG vehicles. However, not all are hand built engines but at the same time the C43 is substantially more car than a C300 in every aspect.

You should really include Opel "OPC" performance badge here. Opel still use this badge only on cars that specifically came from "Opel Performance Center" and besides their sporty look, they perform like race cars as well.
OPC will be discontued in 2023 and the new performance badge GSe (Grand Sport electric) will replace the OPC brand.

Damn, where's SRT?
Exactly where it belongs in the video
I was hoping you'd keep going on to Cadillac, who does this with the V-Sport but atleast the normal Vs are higher in performance, and straight up to Dodge, who is the most consistent out of all the brands. If its an SRT its an SRT, pure performance.
CTS-Vs and ATS-Vs were great cars.
Well said, the performance of the M140, 240 etc is way more than standard models, an M140 is even quicker than an M2 lol
M performance do get a significant horse power boost tho, I was so confused when he said it did not.
@@shiv135 especially considering with a light tune they push 500 hp..
