Best comparison of a Toyota compared to a Lexus I've seen. It was full of pertinent information on how you and your husband use your respective cars and how they compare and contrast in the way most of us would use them. Bravo.
Thank you so much for the amazing compliment! That’s why I wanted to start this channel, so I’m glad I’m achieving the goal LOL! And thanks for watching!
I wanted an NX (hybrid) but couldn't quite afford it. Went with a RAV4 hybrid and haven't been disappointed -- it's an impressive vehicle (especially in terms of solidity and refinement) in its own right.
I 10000% agree!! The Rav is an absolutely amazing car and not just for the money but in general! And again you got more than less of the NX experience without spending anywhere near NX money so that’s a huge win too, IMO.
@@justinlikesme19Not really, the NX is mechanically similar to the RAV4 I believe they share the same engine and underpinnings. I own a 2011 IS, and mechanically it costs about the same to fix as a Camry, all the way down to the break pads. Now, when it comes to replacing headlights, doors, etc. Yes the premium materials, and better tech will make the Lexus a tad more expensive to fix.
I can't afford the NX, but I don't see the Rav4 as utilitarian vehicle. For me it's a floating palace, and I've never owned such a beautiful comfortable vehicle before. I absolutely love it.
I should clarify, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it being utilitarian! In fact, I like that the Rav is more resilient in many ways than the NX. It’s more practical with less to worry about! It’s a terrific car and I hope it brings you many years of wonderful driving!
The best comparison video I have watched so far. Nothing beats real life experience. You have to use cars as a daily driver to really be able to tell what the deal is. I have a 2021 RAV4 hybrid awd which I’m very pleased about. We are a family of three and it’s just the perfect size. Anything smaller would be not enough anything larger is a nuisance when you have to drive into town especially since were living in Germany where everything from parking to roads is smaller. The only problem I have is that here in Germany the RAV4 is not a very good value because it is insanely priced. And mine is a special model called Black Edition, which means it has everything that is usually silver or unpainted plastic is painted in the same special black with glitter in it, then the rest of the car. The undercarriage parts of the bumper, the back and everything else and it has special 19 inch alloy wheels, which no other RAV4 model in Germany has. So mine is not fully loaded. It lacks the sunroof, the heated rear seats, the memory function for the driver seat for example and it still did cost €53,000. A fully loaded Prime would’ve cost €70,000. You are very lucky with the prices you’re paying for Toyota and Lexus vehicles 😮😊
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words and you for watching! And oh my gosh at the price of a Rav4 in Germany!! I’m a big fan of German cars, I have to say. You can’t beat Toyotas for hybrids but I hope the I’ll be able to get an Audi or Porsche in the next few years when the economy looks better! ;)
This was the PERFECT review of both vehicles. I have widdled my choices down to the RAV 4 hybrid and the NX 350 hyrbid. So many benefits of both. MPG is almost the same if you check the website fuelly. One thing that is different is the AIR suspension on the NX vs SPRING on Rav 4. That will make the NX more comfortable ride.
Thank you! Have you looked at the Venza? It splits the difference between the two and is essentially a more posh RAV4 hybrid. Also, I do not recommend the new RX hybrid (I assume that’s what you were referring to). It shares the same engine as the NX350h, Rav, and Venza, and is slow and loud. See my video on it here: ruclips.net/video/-X5ZGH73fDo/видео.htmlsi=3_B5TlNy0MpH7y1V
Hahaha! I mean it’s a great car despite what I’ve said about it! 😂 But you’re right, people have other needs that it doesn’t work for. I have also traded it for something I like more since I made this video.
@@joshjamescars oh that's a beast, congrats on that! I will definitely go for NX, but now I don't know if I should go for 350h or 450h+. Since I will be making around 8000 miles/yr plug-in NX isn't the best choice, but is there any other reason why the plug-in would justify the price over non plug-in?
@gotzz84 It depends what kind of driving you’re doing. If it’s all road trip driving then I would say don’t buy the NX at all because it doesn’t have a spare tire. But if it’s mostly city driving and you can plug in at night at home, you might be better off with the plug-in (but do the calculations on how much the cost for energy will be). With any kind of electrified vehicle you have to really do the math to figure out what’s “worth the money” for you.
I got a NX 350h in April. My last car was a RAV4 limited. I love both of them, but I really love the new car because everything turns out so cool. So quiet you even don’t realize that you have turned on your car.
I don't know why, but I watched the whole car review video for the first time without skipping. It was the best car comparison I've seen between Lexus and Toyota.
Such a comprehensive review! I just bought the NS 350h without really knowing its features. The dealer just gave me the best trade in price for my tesla MY. Now I’m glad I got it. It’s just what I need.
I appreciate your side by side comparison in that I’m in the market for a Rav4 but didn’t know whether a Lexus was worth so much more. I became able to make a more informed decision about what really matters to me most between the two cars. I’ve known a Lexus is an upscaled Toyota and this video helped me to understand I wouldn’t miss anything by buying a Rav4 as I plan to m. It’s definitely more economical.
I’m so glad it was helpful! If you’re in the market for a Rav hybrid and if having a little more premium is of interest, I would also take a look at the Toyota Venza. It’s built on the same platform as these two so it’s the same size and shares the same engine. Cheers!
This is not only one of the best automotive videos I’ve seen, you should have your own car channel. How outer to hear clear, objective professionally delivered information, without flogging some product! Well done! My wife is considering an NX right now.😊
Your verdict for which to buy was great. Thanks for publishing such a detailed video comparing both and driving the same roads to have an actual comparison.
Hands down, this is the best car review video I've ever watched (and I've watched hundreds). Your commentary was concise and engaging, and very relevant. I currently own a Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV, and for the most part I love it. However, I HATE road/wind noise and I want to buy a vehicle that minimizes both, as much as possible. I had been looking at the NX hybrid, but based on your review, I don't know if the cabin is going to be quiet enough for me. Thanks for the info!
Thank you so much for such a kind comment! And yes, I would say you might want to check out the NX PHEV. It’s going to be much more refined than the NX hybrid (also considerably more expensive, though). I ended up flipping the NX in this video for a final year V8 Lexus GX which is like a bank vault or limousine on the road. It gets 1/3 the fuel economy of the NX, but… oh well.
@@joshjamescars So I guess you're saying that the GX is quiet on the freeway. That appeals to me. Noise wise, my '09 CRV compares to the RAV 4 you showed us, but I would like a quieter ride during acceleration. If it were just me, I'd go for an electric something or other just for the quiet, but the wife is concerned about getting fried alive if it catches on fire. Impossible to check all the boxes...
Thank you for the review and comparison. My wife is currently driving a Highlander and wanted something smaller, I ended up ordering my wife a NX hybrid over the RAV4.
Thanks for the detailed comparision between these two cars. There definately is a noticeable cabin noise difference between them. I appreciate you taking time and making this video for us!
Excellent video. I went into this video wanting an NX350h, and now I still want the NX, but I also want a Rav4 to compliment it like you mentioned. This collective "vehicle" seems like a wonderful blend of features for a good daily.
Oh my gosh I don’t know how I missed this comment but thank you! Both or either are great cars! Especially a high trim Rav. Or, split the difference with a Venza. Also a great choice!
What an amazing birthday you’ll have!!! If you can’t decide between them, split the difference and get a Venza. I have another video linked in the description about my thoughts on the Venza as it was in the running before I pulled the trigger on the NX! Happy early birthday! 🥳 🎂
Great video! Two amazing vehicles. Can’t beat Toyota/Lexus hybrids! Love my NX450h+ Hated the Bridgestone Alenza runflats that were OEM and today had them install Michelin CrossClimate 2’s. Ride/quietness is vastly improved just by taking those darn runflats off! Keep the updates coming for both vehicles!
How does your NX450H+ ride? Is it rough like a Rav 4? My wife and I are considering the plug-in hybrid NX as well. I’m disappointed that they don’t come with the pano roof…. even more disappointed that the F-Sports don’t have the ML option.
@@beri232 I’ve had mine since mid Nov 2022 and I love it. It’s eerily silent in EV mode around town. Highway noise is very low as well. You get some wind rush, but it’s not really loud. The car tames the noises very well. I think the noise issues people have are with those run-flat tires. When I had them on over 4 months the ride was compliant, but at times more stiff than what I was used to in a Lexus. Also, road noise varied by surface. It was there in the background, but not as muted as with the Michelins. I got Michelin CrossClimate 2’s. I will say the Michelin tires make a big difference vs the run-flats. I assume no pano roof as that’s too much added weight? I use EV mode around town which is 98% of the time and only use gas if I put the NX into (HV)hybrid mode or if I venture out of town. Like any Lexus/Toyota the transitions are seamless and smooth. You can’t really feel it switching over. I test drove the RZ luxury in town and out on the highway. It’s a very similar(almost an exact copy) of my vehicle going 55-60mph. Smooth and quiet. Very tranquil. Just the RZ is a pure EV with not much range. I’m not sure about the ML. If they will decide to add that or not. That wasn’t a deal breaker for me. I’ve had ML in other Lexus cars I’ve had and it’s ok. I don’t always have music on
I’ve been looking for a new car for a couple of months, and I narrowed it down to the Lexus NX and the Kia, EV six, although I only recently eliminated the Toyota RAV4 Prime. This was an awesome, awesome video that made me think long and hard about what I’m going to do, and the Toyota RAV4 Prime is now back in the mix.
Thank you! I think both your options are great but definitely do your homework on EV depreciation… technology is changing so rapidly (plus EVs aren’t selling to begin with) if you intend to purchase and not lease the car, you might find after 5 years it’s not worth much at all. The Rav and NX, on the other hand, will hold their value well even over time. On the flip side, you’ll be waiting a long while for a Rav Prime but if the EV6 is like the IONIQ5, there are probably a ton just sitting around on dealer lots waiting for a buyer.
Hello, and thank you! I’m not a professional car reviewer, unfortunately, so I don’t have access to press cars or else I would totally do one! I do however talk about the CRV and Venza (which is in many ways very similar to a Rav Limited) in my other video linked below. We don’t have a CRV hybrid Limited in the US, but our Sport Touring is the top trim and very nice, I must admit! ruclips.net/video/G_pgsBV_hw0/видео.html
Awesome! The two Topguns. The review everyone was waiting for!! 😊 🙏🏼 Excellent attention to detail and deep dive analysis I must say! ✅ I have to go with the RAV4 XLE Premium Hybrid as the better of the two. 1) Better value for the money. 2) Much lower price. 3) More useable space 4) Looks cooler. But a close call. (Please add Canadian prices and fuel economy). 🇨🇦
Thank you so much! And for coming back to watch another video!! You really can’t beat the Rav on price and value, it’s such a terrific car! And great recco! I’ll have to figure out what your prices are and what the differences are. I believe, though I might be wrong, in Canada the trims we get on Toyotas are packages and the Lexus packages we get are trims. And from others who have commented, your “luxury” trim on the NX is more or less our “premium” package since you have the executive trim above that (I think). So absolutely can and will do but I’m sure I’ll get things wrong. 😅
Great comparison video. I ended up with the Venza Nightshade. Not as expensive as a Lexus, but with most of the Lexus refinements over a RAV4. Also, didn't have to sit on a waitlist. All three cars are great, each with its own purpose.
That’s awesome!! It’s funny my experience was the opposite, I was actually wanted a Venza but it was the opposite for me, it was going to be a loooong wait to get one fully loaded so I ended up with the NX instead.
Thanks, and I agree with you on all fronts - great review! However, most dealers here - if not all - still add on a market value adjustment onto their SRP plus many other addition fees, which increases significantly the cost of purchase for buyers!
That’s such a shame. We have great dealers where I am that don’t do that, and I would never recommend anyone pay above MSRP (except for any accessories you want and paint protection/tint, etc). If you can’t get a dealer to work with you in town, buy elsewhere for sure!
My wife and I are Toyota/Lexus family as well. I have a 2022 RAV4 Limited and the interior options are fantastic! We live in Arizona so we need those ventilated seats:)
Of course! I don’t think you should feel any remorse for not buying the 450h+. If you’re here in the US, it’s just ridiculously expensive and I would personally have buyers remorse if I spent that much on an NX.
That was just an excellent review. It's just what prospective buyers need to learn. You can find out about the features in any car review video, but the nuanced day to day experience with the car is what I want to hear about. Great job. You will make millions with this RUclips thing.
Thank you so much for such a nice comment! I’m so glad it was helpful to you! This is just a fun side hobby for me, but my goal has always been to make videos that are helpful to real people, so glad I’m succeeding there! Cheers!
Thanks for the thorough video, appreciate all your insights. We're moving to TX from CA and considering an AWD vehicle for my wife due to all the TX rain. Appreciate that specific comment you made about AWD handling in the rain, we rarely think of rain in SoCal, haha
Ah, welcome to Texas! I don’t know if I’ve mentioned but I’m a native Angeleno but we followed tech out to Austin. One word of advice to you, whichever you go with, buy here in TX. Inventory is way better and we have a lot of good dealers who aren’t price gouging and marking things up like they are in California and that’s for both Toyota and Lexus! Cheers!
This is really useful study. Thanks for taking the time to put the comparison together. I’m tempted by the NX with its classier looks. But the RAV is such a no nonsense, simple , robust choice. Much to consider.
Great and honest review, I hate fake leather though, I prefer leather to be leather, and if I don’t want leather, I’d prefer velour or regular cloth seats, this faux leather reminds me of my fathers old cars back in the day with the vinyl seats that smelled cheap and got too hot on a sunny day.
I totally get not liking faux leather and absolutely do what is going to make you happy but for me it’s the best of both worlds. Far more resilient than cloth or leather and keeps its shape since it’s bonded to the seat padding. Not to mention how much better it’ll look compared to even the best kept leather in 5 years when I go to sell this car. That said, if this was an actual luxury car like an LS or a Cayenne, it would have to be leather but the NX is a cheap little economical crossover so I’m good with it here.
Excellent video and great to hear from an owner that knows his cars. Liked especially your list “what’s the same?” and that kind of a list (positives & negatives) could be great in your concluding remarks as well. Last week bought RX450h F-Sport (2021, 24000 miles) and NX 300h (2021, 8000 miles) for selling but will get to drive for a weeks (or months) before they move to their new owners.
Hello, and thank you! And man I’m jealous I had actually seriously searched for an RX450h to get the V6 hybrid before buying my NX. I wish I’d bought one when they were still available new. Now that Toyota has moved away from their tried and true V6s, I think I may be moving away from them as a brand, while keeping my 4Runner TRD Pro forever since it still has one
I have a Honda plug-in hybrid which came with low-profile, run-flat tires. And within 10 months I blew out every tire thanks Michigan potholes, due very weak sidewalls.
I ultimately chose the 2023 Lexus NX350h Premium purely on the exterior and interior designs. I love the aggressive front look and lights on the lexus, as well as the newly designed tail light. In comparison, the lexus just feels a lot more luxurious and compact.
Great comparison !! Here in Mexico I was between buying the RAV4 Hybrid Limited and the CRV, but at the end decided for the RAV4 because at least here the RAV4 Hybrid Limited is about the same price as the CRV initial trim and around 5-10 k less than the CRV top trim (not hybrid since CRV hybrid is not sold in Mexico)
Wow! I had no idea that was the case there!! Absolutely Rav4 in that case! I’ve heard that the pricing on the CR-V in Canada is way off base too (way too expensive). I was looking at the CR-V before buying my NX and it’s decently priced here but missing all kinds of nice features that even the Rav4 gets, unfortunately.
I used these roads all the time! You must be in Round Rock. We live in Pflugerville. If you’d kept straight at the toll road and went left on the feeder, were like 10 away just off Kelly Ln😄
Great video! Its important to say that you can get an upgraded larger central screen in the new 2023 rav4 and also theres a full 12 inch digital drivers display! Btw it was kinda funny how you were mad at the person who beeped at you for going 85 mph in the left lane-here in Germany you would actually potentially get a ticket for blocking the left lane since ppl are often going 120+mph(legally) and the lane is strictly for overpassing only 😁something to keep in mind when youre visiting europe hahah!
I have driven the autobahn and let me tell you it is up there on my list of the best driving experiences I’ve ever had. And it was in a little Mercedes rental too no less! That probably wasn’t legal or allowed by the rental company but oh well. 😂 And I will say that I was doing comfortably above 85 but yeah… that road is fun when no one is around. 😁
Well done. And very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do this comparison. When comparing insurance for each, should one expect a big difference in cost or somewhat similar?
Hello! Thank you so much and for coming back to watch! Insurance is a hard question to answer because soooo many other factors impact that (location, credit score, driving record, mileage, garage or not, how many cars on the policy, etc.) and so even if it’s a 5% difference that could be $5 or $50 depending on everything else. HOWEVER, for us, with good driving records, excellent credit, living in a safe neighborhood with a locked garage and having 3 cars on a policy, etc. there’s very little difference.
I find your comments very helpful. My complaint about the RAV4 was interior noise at highway speeds. Seems that I will experience much the same in the NX. Guess I should move up!!
I’m so glad they were helpful! And I should be clear, the road nose isn’t as bad in the NX, but the engine noise is about the same. Depending on what you’re coming from or tested, one thing I always say is that hybrids or turbo-4s are never as refined as the good old V6s that used to be in the RX, ES, etc. If you’re shopping in this category, I might also recommend you look at the CR-V. The new 2023 model, especially the Sport Touring is amazingly refined and quiet on the highway, believe it or not. Plus it has active noise cancellation and resonance reducing wheels.
I mean it would but I use my sunroof all the time. Like is it above 60 degrees? The glass is actually open. Below that? The glass is still closed but the cover is open. I know, I’m insane. 😂
Great review - well-articulated descriptions of the similarities and differences! As some others have pointed out, the Venza is a nice alternative that kind of splits the difference between the NX and the RAV 4 - hoping for a Venza Prime someday. Of course, if you want the ultimate in value, check out the Corolla Hybrid - for an amazing bargain.
Thank you! And totally agreed at the Venza. I just didn’t touch on it here because we don’t own one. A fully loaded Venza was actually what I was looking for when I bought my NX, but man are they hard to find these days. And yes! Both the Corolla hybrid and Corolla cross hybrid are terrific choices too for value.
I so appreciate you wanting me to do so, however I should tell you this is just a hobby that I started because I didn’t see many real world owner reviews on the NX when I bought, and thought I’d do one myself. But I’m not a professional reviewer and don’t have access to press vehicles, unfortunately!
Wow, Great video. I pick up my NX350H tomorrow. I am trading in my 2015 Rav4 which I loved. I just wanna treat myself because I'm single and work so darn hard. I deserve and never had a luxury vehicle. also, this will be my retirement car. I just hope I don't miss the large cargo space I used to have w/the rav4. I own a home and I was able to load anything in that car. Freezer, carpet, lrg bag of catfoods ect.
Congratulations and happy retirement!! If you ever do need more space than the NX has, you can always rent a bigger SUV since I assume if you’re hauling that much you wouldn’t want to get your Lexus dirty ;)
That’s fantastic!! The SE is such a great value!! Plus it looks SO good on the outside because of the fenders and bumpers being painted and not just naked black plastic!
We bought a Toyota Crown and Grand Highlander within two weeks of each other in March. One is for my spouse and the grand for get togethers with family so we all can be together during commutes when family is visiting. The Crown hybrid is about 39 mpg. The Grand, 36 mpg. I then wanted to get my long commute car with good mpg but also a quiet cabin cuz there are times I'm conducting business in the car with 4 hours a day. The RAV prime was perfect for economy and good mpg. But the car seems unsteady (important driving in snowstorms for essential personnel like me). It was also way too loud. But I confess that I still wish the RAV worked out. I love the look of it. However, the CRV beats it in everyway except for design. So i opted out of those two reliable, economy cars. Since I now have a Grand Highlander and Crown, both have great sound insulation and premium interiors, it was difficult to get use to the RAV. Lexus for me.
Great comparison, thanks for all the videos posted, I also opted for the NX. Apparently, sometime in the summer of 2024, I should get it, I hope😅 . I do not have the opportunity and funds for a second car at the moment and the choice had to fall on the NX. It is a bit smaller, but it will have to be used for everything that would be a bigger car, bigger, sometimes dirty luggage, sometimes 4 adults, and even 5, and maybe sleeping 😀. But I fit, I checked it in the Lexus showroom😎. Apart from the size, the NX is as practical as the RAV4, which I like a lot.
Oh my gosh are you in Canada or elsewhere outside the US? Summer of 2024 is a ridiculously long wait for an NX, I really hope it comes sooner for you!! But fantastic choice and I think you’ll absolutely love it. The third adult in the back seat might not love it, but that’s okay. 🤣 Hopefully that won’t have to happen too often. I will say that the price difference for the RX isn’t big at all, in fact there was a nice RX350h at the dealer recently for only $1,000 more than I paid for mine. It didn’t have the HUD or digital mirror, but it had the 14” screen and a moonroof. While you wait, you might want to think on that since you’ll be using your car for a lot of utility! I think it might be worth a few thousand more in your case.
Good review!! I just wanted comment that here in So Cal, Toyota still has ridicules dealer mark up and RAV4 XLE Premium Hybrid sells at $43K. Not much different compared to NX350 Hybrid.
That’s HORRENDOUS and I can’t believe people will pay that. On principle alone I would drive out of state to buy one without a markup. 😂 Anyway, so sorry that’s the case for you and if you’re in the market, hope you can find an NX or Rav without a markup.
Hello! Your video is the BEST I've ever watched. Easy to listen to and so informative. Thank you for taking the time to put this out for people. I've been looking at these two cars for a long time. I've had a 2011 Lexus RX 350 and it's time for safety features etc. Can you speak to the ease of using the infotainment system in both cars? I'm an older driver and want ease (as well as all safety features.). Also, in Los Angeles, the dealers are marking up the Rav4 Hybrid (higher trim levels) to outrageous levels. I'm leaning toward the Lexus NX 350h for this reason.
Hello! You are so very kind, thank you! I’m glad it was helpful and enjoyable! I think if you’re coming from an RX, you should definitely consider the NX. The Rav is a great car, but I think the NX is going to give you the more premium experience you’re used to. Hybrids drive a little differently than the 3.5 V6 that you have now, but the fuel economy is terrific. As for the infotainment, you’re going to get the latest and greatest in the NX. I do wish there were more physical buttons but I think it’s easy and intuitive enough to learn and use over time. But it’s worth going to the dealer and playing with it in a new NX, RX, or RZ (same system and controls in all 3 cars). The Rav’s interior and infotainment as a whole is starting to feel dated as it goes back to 2019 when the Rav came out. The upside there is you do have physical climate controls, but I’d take the Lexus’ interior over the Rav’s for everything else. The NX will definitely feel more modern for much longer. It also gets the newer Toyota/Lexus safety sense 3.0 system which is one of the best if not the best on the market. Lane keep and adaptive cruise control work beautifully and are far more nuanced than on the 2.5 system found in the RAV4. And of course, like you said, it’s ridiculous to pay anything above MSRP on a Rav4.
Thank you so much for your thoughts. I got the Lexus NX 350h yesterday and I do love it! I went for it because of your input. Thanks again. Really appreciate you taking the time to respond.
Then the Venza is the perfect car for you!! Seriously, it’s the best of both worlds and I think will fit your taste and budget. I was actually trying to get one before I got my NX but there weren’t any at the time that had what I wanted on them.
@@joshjamescars thank you for the advice. I'm a retired and divorced woman who is afraid of making the wrong decision. Does the Venza have a moonroof option? I'm very afraid of buying a hybrid. Do they have good resale value? I worry about such an expensive battery.
The Venza does have a moonroof, but it doesn’t open. It’s what’s called a fixed glass roof. Which is good and bad-you’re less likely to have leaks later on since nothing ever moves. But, I love to have my moonroof open on sunny days. As for hybrids, we’re at a point where buying a hybrid is a super safe bet. The best bet you can make, actually. Toyota’s general hybrid system architecture has actually been out since 1997 when the original Prius came out, so we are essentially 25 years in and they’ve refined it to perfection. As a result, Toyota hybrids are consistently ranked more reliable than gas models (you can read about that in Consumer Reports). And because of how long hybrids have been around, the cost of replacing a battery is far, far less than it was 10 years ago. You’re also more likely to have to replace a transmission on a gas car than a battery on a hybrid car. And yes! They hold their value wonderfully. In fact, as you may see in the comments here, hybrids are in such high demand right now that if you decided to sell before the car is too old, you’re likely to not lose any money at all. Even longer term, you can look up values of old Rav4 hybrids and Priuses and they hold a lot of their value because of Toyota reliability and hybrid efficiency. Everyone wants one, the values stay high. I think a Rav or Venza hybrid would be a perfect car if it’s going to mainly be you. They’ve got great space and utility should you ever need it, but they’re still compact enough to drive and park easily.
Currently driving my brother’s 2022 Prius hybrid because my 2007 Lexus IS250 has transmission issues (brother is deployed so he let me drive his) and the one thing I really miss and don’t think I’ll get over is the sound insulation. Having driven a Lexus all my adult life, quiet driving is all I’ve known and that set the standard. I did have my eyes set on the RAV4 Hybrid but the poor noise insulation may be a dealbreaker for me. Hopefully there’s a Lexus (or Toyota) alternative that has what I’m looking for. Thanks for this very informative review!
Hello! Best wishes to your brother for a safe tour and return home and thanks to him for his service! As for the car, I’m in the same boat as you. And I haven’t even just had Lexus, but older Toyotas that I’ve had were better insulated and or had engines that didn’t make as much noise. It’s a big down side to smaller, more efficient engines. What you might want to do is buy a new IS350 while you can still get one with the V6, which may only be this year and next. That’ll give you a very similar feeling to your 07 IS. The NX Hybrid would be another to look at given that it is more refined but the 4-cylinder still gets loud. You might also look at a certified Highlander or RX with the V6 if you want an SUV. Unfortunately there aren’t too many compact Toyotas or Lexuses that are as refined as their older cars. It sounds weird but might also look at the Honda CR-V Sport Touring. See my video here on that because the new generation is seriously impressive: ruclips.net/video/G_pgsBV_hw0/видео.html
Also, congrats on the 1.64k subscribers. With your great reviews, hope for you to get into the 100k. I’m working on mine through cooking. Hoping to reach up there one day. 😊
That’s so very kind of you to say, thank you! This is just a hobby for me, though, and i don’t have the time to crank out videos the way you need to to reach that kind of subscriber count. And good luck to you as well!
@@joshjamescars thank you as well. Me too. It is a hobby for me too. My coworkers have been encouraging me to start posting for a couple years. So I just started. Thanks again.
I really like this great comaparo. I wish the NX had about 2” more of rear legroom and a couple inches wider. I would have been in for a plug-in hybrid. Thank you.
I agree it could have been bigger but I do really like that it’s great that Lexus kept the footprint compact and easy to drive and park in the city! This is a global model too, of course, so it has to work for all markets.
Shopped the Rav 4 but with back facing car seat and being 5-11 we couldn't justify it. The passenger seat would need to be way forward. Went with Highlander and it was perfect size. Defintely size up if possible and for the 2/3 years of back facing car seat as it just takes more room.
Great choice!! I totally agree, for families the Highlander is a much better choice. Plus you’ll be able to comfortably carry around other kids and grandparents, etc. Even without kids I would never want to be without a midsize SUV.
Thank you Josh, great comparison. We are weighing one or the other of these. It seems like the major differences would be: NX: less space inside, noticeably quieter, nicer materials; RAV: available plug-in; slightly noisier; less plush inside. But the overall driving characteristics are very similar. Is this right? Any other words of wisdom? Regarding tires, if the NX comes with run flats, does the RAV come with tubed tires and a spare?
Yes! You’re pretty much spot on. Though, I don’t think I’d say noticeably quieter. It’s maybe 20% quieter, and I would expect more from Lexus. But, this is entry-level premium not luxury, so it’s acceptable. I will tell you that I flipped mine after 6 months because I didn’t feel like I fully got my money’s worth (got almost all of my money back though LOL!). Check out the video on my channel about why we flipped it. As for the tires, the Rav does come with a spare but no car tire today has tubes, they’re all tubeless, but runflats allow you to run even while the tire is flat. I think my words of wisdom to you may be to split the difference between the two and go with a Venza.
Thanks for the comparison was a good watch. I just bought a Lexus nx 350 gas. I come from a 2021 lease rogue and I did not like the feel of a cvt. Coming to a nx was amazing in everything, and yes I assume that cvt are much better in Toyota and Lexus but I noticed the difference in gas model. I wish they had a v6 but hey it is what it, market is going for turbo because of the regulations for emissions so that's what we have in this economy. So I'm enjoying the gas version and yes I pay more in gas but I prefer the feel of the gas then cvt. And this little nx has the same gas engine as a rx and TX! Insane power for this!
Hello! Congrats on the new NX! Just one quick correction-the hybrids don’t use a CVT, they use an ECVT which is completely different than the belt and pulley CVT in your Rogue. The marketing terminology is confusing to many people, but the ECVT is planetary power split gear which is more similar to the single speed reduction gearset in a full EV.
Hello, and thank you! At the time we bought (late 2021) we didn’t have to wait at all, the one we have was already inbound to the dealer and so maybe a few weeks at most for it to get through customs at the port in California and then to Texas! And yep! It’s black.
Hi, thanks so much for this video. I had a question, what’s the difference in cost of maintenance (changing oil/tires/etc) and insurance coverage between the two? I’d love to get the Lexus but concerned it may have a higher cost at the mechanic given it’s considered a luxury car. Thanks for your time.
It’s really hard to give you a figure on that because there are soooo many factors at play. Insurance is all dependent upon your area, your driving record, your credit score, and more; but I’ll say that it’s under $75/month for me BUT we have 3 cars all on the same plan which makes things cheaper just like a family phone plan. Most insurance companies will also let you run a quote if you can get a VIN for an NX which you could probably get from a dealer. Maintenance all depends on how and how much you drive and whether you have a Lexus dealer who prices things fairly or if they Jack up their rate because they think they’re a luxury car brand and thus can charge the same labor rates as Mercedes/Audi/BMW for maintenance. That said, Toyota will give you two years of free oil changes. You can also put cheap tires on either car (though I wouldn’t recommend it) so tire cost is entirely dependent on what you’re willing to pay for. By and large, I don’t think it’s that big a difference (not like one will be tens of thousands more) but because so much depends on your locale, dealers, and driving needs its hard to say.
You have a unique talent in explaining detail without it becoming tedious. Very enjoyable watching your reviews
Thank you so much! I think some would beg to differ LOL! But I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed and thanks for watching!! :)
Agreed. Right tempo.
And again you got more than less of the NX experience without spending anywhere near NX money so that’s a huge win too, IMO.
you wouldnt disappointed in toyota and hey lexus is so expensive to fix
For some reason I am obsessed with the NX Hybrid. I need to revisit this video to be reminded why it's not appropriate for us at this time. Thanks
Hahaha! I mean it’s a great car despite what I’ve said about it! 😂 But you’re right, people have other needs that it doesn’t work for. I have also traded it for something I like more since I made this video.
@@joshjamescars if it's not a secret, for which one?
Oh definitely not a secret-my Lexus GX460. Wanted the last V8. Have since taken over the Prime as my daily driver.
Congratulations! And yes! That’s the magic of Toyota’s hybrids.
@@joshjamescars Lexus, haha 😆!
I mean… the NX is still a Rav but that’s what I love about it and what makes it such a great car. 😂
I don't know why, but I watched the whole car review video for the first time without skipping. It was the best car comparison I've seen between Lexus and Toyota.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Wow. An analysis doesn't get much better than this. Thank you. I wish you could SWOT all my life decisions.
Such a comprehensive review! I just bought the NS 350h without really knowing its features. The dealer just gave me the best trade in price for my tesla MY. Now I’m glad I got it. It’s just what I need.
Great choice! Lexuses hold their value like nothing else out there too! :)
Is the new nx better car than the tesla model y as looking at both as an option
Well done! My wife is considering an NX right now.😊
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it and glad that you enjoyed! Good luck to you both on your search for your next car!
Your verdict for which to buy was great. Thanks for publishing such a detailed video comparing both and driving the same roads to have an actual comparison.
Thank you for watching and for the kind words!!
True. Clearly a lot of effort he has put in editing the video to hit the balance. Subscribed.
Idk what car I want but this is the best vehicle review that I have ever dreamed of. Can a review be refreshing bc I’m refreshed
This is such a nice comment, thank you, and glad it was refreshing! ❤️
I like the Rav4 but I don't want to wait a year or two. I wish you would compare a Rav4 hybrid and a Highlander hybrid
Thank you for the review and comparison. My wife is currently driving a Highlander and wanted something smaller, I ended up ordering my wife a NX hybrid over the RAV4.
Fantastic!! I think the NX is a great way to downsize from a Highlander, and hope you get it soon!
Thanks for the detailed comparision between these two cars. There definately is a noticeable cabin noise difference between them. I appreciate you taking time and making this video for us!
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you found it helpful! And yes, there is a difference but it’s not night and day.
I’m so thankful you made this video! My current dilemma, is choosing between these two cars to get as my birthday present 😅
Love my NX450h+
Hated the Bridgestone Alenza runflats that were OEM and today had them install Michelin CrossClimate 2’s.
Ride/quietness is vastly improved just by taking those darn runflats off!
Keep the updates coming for both vehicles!
Yes!! We will be doing the same when I have a chance to order them and then take the car in to get them swapped out. And will do!
How does your NX450H+ ride? Is it rough like a Rav 4? My wife and I are considering the plug-in hybrid NX as well. I’m disappointed that they don’t come with the pano roof…. even more disappointed that the F-Sports don’t have the ML option.
@@beri232
I’ve had mine since mid Nov 2022 and
I love it.
I don’t always have music on
@@chrisstewart7147 do you have a spare stored in your trunk?

No spare.
Wow the quality and content of this video is great. Literally have been looking for this content for weeks.

your video is perfect! I don't like long videos but didn't mind your video because my questions were answered. very informative. thank you so much! :)
Thank you so much! So glad it was helpful and enjoyable!
He’s so good and thorough! Love his comparisons. Wish he’d compare rav4 hybrid limited vs Honda crv hybrid limited…..
You should be a professional! First time watching your review and you are a natural.
Awesome! The two Topguns. The review everyone was waiting for!! 😊 🙏🏼
Excellent attention to detail and deep dive analysis I must say! ✅
I have to go with the RAV4 XLE Premium Hybrid as the better of the two.
1) Better value for the money.
2) Much lower price.
3) More useable space
4) Looks cooler.
Very good and accurate observations!
I own 2023 Rav4 Hybrid and i confirm, It's rugged spacy a bit noisy but reliable so far at the 45 000 km.
Thank you for the great info. I love how you address what and how a person might use their vehicle. Not just spec comparison.
Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed!
Hi Josh and John. My HEV Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is forever spinning the back wheels as well. Adds to the flavour of driving.
Oh no!! Haha maybe it is a Rav thing overall then LOL!
You are such a great storyteller! Exceptionally good video, with perfect voice and content! Very pleasant to watch!
Thank you so much for leaving such a nice comment!
Thank you for your detailed comparison and treating my buyer's remorse for going with the Rav4 prime instead of the nx450h
Of course! I don’t think you should feel any remorse for not buying the 450h+. If you’re here in the US, it’s just ridiculously expensive and I would personally have buyers remorse if I spent that much on an NX.
I have done plenty of long trips in my 21 Rav4 with 4 adults. We were all comfy. Im 5"10
Dog person/outdoor lover here! Brilliant review on both vehicles! All the exact reasons why I purchased (and am sooo pleased) my RAV4 Adventure.
Great choice!!!
Consider the Venza before it goes out of production at the end of the year! Kind of brings together the best of both.
@@joshjamescars the Venza looks fantastic but not available in my area.
I can only attest what I kept reading here. Hands on the best review I have ever seen in my life. Congrats!
You are so very kind to say so, thank you!!
I test drove both back to back. My choice is the Rav4. It was more quiet, had less rattles, and was more comfortable all round.
Great choice!
Congrats on the great video!
Gotta say you're good at this!
Thank you!
I have a Honda plug-in hybrid which came with low-profile, run-flat tires. And within 10 months I blew out every tire thanks Michigan potholes, due very weak sidewalls.
Oof yikes! Yeah they’re not great, I wish manufacturers would stop putting them on cars.
I ultimately chose the 2023 Lexus NX350h Premium purely on the exterior and interior designs. I love the aggressive front look and lights on the lexus, as well as the newly designed tail light. In comparison, the lexus just feels a lot more luxurious and compact.
I agree! It’s definitely a more premium experience. I still don’t think it’s a luxury vehicle but it’s a great premium alternative to the others.
They didn't do anything about the road noise though frankly
@@joshjamescars Good to know. Thank you!
Hi Josh! I just got an NX350h base and it’s off to a great start. Love your videos
Terrific! And congratulations!
NX & RAV4 owner here and the NX is much quieter even at 80-85 mph. Much better power as well.
If you closed the sunroof sliding shade, the NX would sound quieter. Thank you for all your videos.
I mean it would but I use my sunroof all the time. Like is it above 60 degrees? The glass is actually open. Below that? The glass is still closed but the cover is open. I know, I’m insane. 😂
Very thorough and honest review, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
@@joshjamescars Thanks. If you can do tests of those, that would be terrific. Keep up the good work!
Great review, keep these informative, and honest reviews coming, we all appreciate them.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Great job on explaining it out I’m looking for a SE hybrid now I have valuable insight 😊
That’s fantastic!! The SE is such a great value!! Plus it looks SO good on the outside because of the fenders and bumpers being painted and not just naked black plastic!
Great job explaining Sir.😊
Are you writing a novel here? 😢
Wow. Thankyou for a professional comparison between the two. Really enjoyed your presentation.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
I happen to live in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. And yes, we have to wait 3 to 6 months to get the 2024 NX 350h we ordered. 😊
Very well explained, making me choose easily
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Thx for the excellent explanation.
Going for the RAV4 but if I don’t like it……
I’ll come back here and complain.
Thank you so much for this! We have a RAV4 and love it! I’ve been doing a lot of research on the NX and this really helped!
Fantastic!!! If there’s anything else I can help to answer for you, don’t hesitate! :) Hope you can keep both!
Very well articulated and detailed comparison. Great job. Thanks buddy.
Thank you for posting this video. It was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you SO much for this in-depth review! This was incredibly helpful, and your presentation skills are exceptional.
Thank you so much that’s so kind of you to say!
Great video that covered everything. wish you did videos on more vehicles.. I would have appreciated a little more info on the audio sound
Thank you! And it would be fun to but sadly I have a day job and this is just a fun hobby. 😂
Thank you for the information, I’m definitely getting the RAV4.
It’s a phenomenal car, you won’t regret it!!
I have a Lexus taste on a Toyota budget, so this video is great. Thank you.
@@joshjamescars thank you so much for your response. You are very sweet.
@@joshjamescars thank you so much for taking the time to respond. You've been a lot of help.
Thank you for the vid, I am a huge fan of Toyota en Lexus. It was a great comperison. Great job 🎉
Excellent review!
Really awesome review. Looks like a lot of work and passion. Thank you for the best comparison between Toyota and Lexus. 💯
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching!
Great question to ask. Great answer. Exhaustive, full review; practical, and very informative in a real-world way. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Glad it was informative and helpful!
Thanks again.
great review, you helped me make up my mind on which car to purchase
Thank you! Glad I could help!
Insightful observations and comments presented in a pleasant, easy to understand manner. Well done.
Thank you!
For the price of an NX, I’d strongly recommend a Toyota Crown Signia.
Crown Signia is great but it’s a midsize station wagon and has a much larger footprint (10 inches longer) than the NX which is a compact crossover.
This was an excellent and incredible thorough review. Thank job
This is one of the best review ever. Thanks!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it!
This is a great video! I always wondering is it worth it to buy a Lexus and Acura instead of Toyota and Honda...
I think it can be if you value the premium experience, but absolutely not necessary to reap the benefits of buying a Honda or Toyota product. :)
I am planning to purchase the NX , I wonder what do you think of the UX ?
I think you’re better off with a Corolla hatchback or a Prius since that’s what the UX is. It’s too expensive given its economy car roots.
This is a video I was looking for ! Thanks 🙏
So glad it was helpful!
Best comparison ever! I've been looking for this exact comparison. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
What a fabulous review! Incredible detail. Subscribed.
Thank you and welcome aboard!
Thank you very much Josh for the great video -- a lot of details clearly explained.
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!!
@@joshjamescarsthanks for the clarification. Awesome info and I guess I need to a test drive on a hybrid when ever we can get one around here.
Nice comparo! How many years have you waited for your rav4? Is your rav black?
Helpful comparison on two great vehicles! Thanks!
Thank you for watching!!
Very good video! I subscribed and look forward to more content you put out!😄
Thank you so much! I so appreciate it!
Closing the sunroof cover makes a huge difference in cabin noise for most Lexus vehicles.
Not enough to make the car luxurious in any way. And I can have the moonroof open in our GX460 and it’s still bankvault quiet in the cabin.
