10 reasons I got the prime over the nx: 1. More fuel efficient 2. Roomier interior 3. Quicker from 0-60 4. Better pricing 5. Has spare tire 6. Rugged/sportier look 7. More storage space 8. Uses regular gas 9. Physical buttons on screen 10. More economical to operate
@@videogazer801e 2022 Nx 450 owners manual I'm looking at right now recommends minimum 91 octane at the risk of loss in performance and fuel economy, the 2023 RAV4 sitting outside my living room window recommends 87 or higher, as is pretty standard with every Lexus I've ever driven they ONLY recommend premium gas which is probably why the same exact engine code in the Lexus is rated at 182hp and the Toyota is 174hp, same A25A, different tunes.
The Rav4 should be more roomier. Not as fancier in the interior but less room. Especially in the cargo area. The volume in the cargo area is significantly different
The Lexus 450h+ is more expensive, has higher maintenance costs, uses premium gas, has less EV range, is less efficient, has slower 0-60 acceleration, has less interior cabin room, has less clearance, and lacks a spare tire compared to the RAV4Prime. Those are pretty big differences. The rest of it comes down to looks, the door latches, and infotainment. There are some who say the Lexus is quieter too (but it's probably not by much).
@@CarterEdison777 The 2023 RAV4 Prime has a larger screen than before and the dash is digital now. Not as big as the Lexus' of course, but the difference is less now. Plus, there are some benefits to hard buttons in a vehicle.
@Brian Johnson damn that’s crazy lol in Europe people can hold the purchase and in the meantime use public transport but in US that’s not so convenient
I've been in love with the design of the Rav4 Prime since I first saw it. The ONLY reason why I didn't try to get one was due to the lack of interior color options. I wanted a Rav4 Prime in a white exterior with nutmeg interior color combination but the Prime only comes with a black interior. I told myself that I would never own another vehicle with a black interior. A black interior is like a sauna in the summer and an ice cave in the winter. I hope Toyota rectifies that in the next iteration of the Rav4 Prime.
I have an XSE Red in color. It has vented & heated seats. Just got to push the button on the key fob before you jump in and those wonderful seats are ready for your comfort. I love this car. My wife and I ordered it in April of 2021, it took nine months to have the baby delivered from Japan, but was well worth the wait. BTW not to mention, $7500 tax rebate in the states. As of yesterday, we are averaging 45 miles of range on charge and 41 mpg on gas.
@@pt73mudbuggy75 Yeah, that is an awesome vehicle indeed, congratulations. I hope Toyota realizes the really great thing they have with the Prime. They should bring out a Prime line and offer each crossover in a Prime format for starters. I'd absolutely LOVE to see a Highlander Prime with like 315 - 330 HP and at least 50 miles of electric only range. I'd definitely buy one, no question.
Black interior also doesn’t look as good as a lighter two-tone interior… very frustrating that even when color is an option, they still only stock black interiors!
I just got a 2024 Lexus NX 450h+ F-Sport. The prices for RAV4 prime xse compared to Lexus NX, it makes sense to get the better vehicle for around the same price.
Great review. Funny, I actually prefer the exterior styling of the RAV4 especially the XSE version thanks to it’s gorgeous wheels. Also, it looks like the 2023 RAV4 XSE is getting the same 12.5” digital cluster and the infotainment display is going to be 1” bigger than the 2022 model but still smaller the one in the Lexus.
I have not looked at the NX, but on the surface, there are 3 things I don't like compared to the RAV4 Prime. Two that you mentioned, the price and the slightly less EV range, and my third would be lack of physical spare tire. My understanding is that the NX does not have or even offer a spare tire but only an inflation kit. No spare may not be a problem around town, but I don't like the idea of no spare when travelling distance.
also it only has leather seats. leather gets either really hot or really cold. that's why they need heated AC seats. something fabric doesn't need. Leather looks nice, but its practically is worthless for the premium you pay.
Lexus representative said that it's to reduce the weight of the vehicle . Rav4 Prime weights 2508Kg and NX 450h+ already weights 2540Kg. Lexus did not want to increase more weight by adding a spare tire, pano roof and Mark Levinson premium audio to reduce more range. (It's their explanation) They have already added so much weight to do noise insulation.
The NX comes with run-flat tires so it doesn't require a spare. However, if you ever want to replace the tires you'll be paying extra for new run-flats.
I was about to order the rav4 but with the mark up price, its almost the same price as the nx. So i decided for another 10k i would just get the nx just to piss off the toyota dealership
I have deposits on the Rav4 Prime (summer 2021), Rav4 Hybrid (spring 2022), and NX350h (spring 2022). The NX is about $10k more than the top of the line Rav4. I think the NX features, interior refinement, warranty, etc is worth around that $10k difference. Personally I'd save the money on the Rav4 but I'll likely end up getting the NX350h because the wait is 4-6 months vs 1.5-2 years for the Rav4 Hybrid and 3-5 years for the Rav4 Prime. Considering I'll be saving around $5k/year on gas compared to my current car the extra year+ wait makes it worth the difference. The NX450h+ really seems like a bad value when you consider it's $10k more AND you don't get the $6.5 rebate. $16.5k more is way too much IMO.
@@chetpkristy just checked and you are actually correct now that they've raised the cut off, though it's only $5k federally. Here in BC you could get more but only if your income is below $100k, in which case you shouldn't be buying at $70k vehicle.
Thanks David for the in depth review. First let me start with I have a 92 LS 400 with 65 k on her. It is in mint condition even the engine bay is clean. I don't abuse the car it is garaged and driven very little. I lost a 5 cent screw on the remote and I can say Lexus Corp could have told me to take a hike the car is 30 years old way out of warranty, but to my shock Lexus Corp and the Dealer Lexus OF Queens fixed the issue at no cost to me. Now that is service on both ends. I am not going to go into the details because I might break some law by stating what Lexus Corp did for me but it was more than replacing a screw. I have had Toyota , Acura and no companies in my experience has come close to this customer service experience. This is not a paid advertisement just my experience as a Customer. Lexus Customer Service is outstanding. I think I have learn a valuable lesson over the years, it is pay now or pay later. In my option Lexus is worth the extra Money. The Quality is the best. Japan builds great cars. To me I agree with you the Lexus has a better look. How is Toyota making out with the Sold State batteries? I heard they are testing them in the Toyota's before installing them into the Lexus. I guess they feel if there are issues Lexus customers should not be part of that.

Rav4 hybrid is a $30-35k LE, XLE and XLE Premium is affordable and incredibly versatile AWD vehicle with fuel efficiency better than 5 year old cars and more cargo space than most comparably prices SUV's and the cheapest insurance cost for a hybrid vehicle in US. (cheaper than any other hybrid in US). Rav4 Prime is a better and more powerful rav4 but for a whooping $10k more money. It's definitely worth it with $7500 federal incentive, but when it is cut to half $3750 (like right now) or a quarter $1875 (9 months from now) it is a simply vehicle competing in a different price bracket and couldn't compete with rav4 hybrid, instead it competes with Lexus NX and loses.
With the dealer markup for the RAV4, with XSE and Premium package and Lexus dealer in our area going back to MSRP for all their cars, we decided to have a look at both. You end up with a similar pricing. We decided to go with Toyota and It came down to a simple reason, interior space. Lexus felt too snug both up front and in the back. Toyota feels spacious. Of course Lexus has much nicer materials all over but XSE with Premium package also feels like an upscale car in every sense. I love how Lexus integrated the touchscreen into the dashboard vs Toyota where it sits on top of it. In general Lexus dashboard is a lot cleaner. Toyota ride is fairly quiet but while in Lexus it's like sitting in your living room. Toyota has a touch better performance numbers, range, mpg and acceleration but in real world that doesn't mean much. It's interesting how Lexus looks more compact than Toyota, but Lexus is actually longer car. They really stuffed it with acoustic insulation. I like the Lexus look way better (and I didn't think that with previous generations), my wife likes Toyota. Rav4 still standa out among the mundane design of similar cars today. I don't like lots of creases and sharp lines on it. 2023 Rav4 is getting good chunk of technology that 2022 Lexus had. We'd still have gone with Lexus if we were able to get it exactly how we wanted it. But no dealer, Lexus or Toyota, in our area is taking orders until inventory gets much better. The struggle now is to buy a Toyota at MSRP. In our immediate area they're still being marked up. Well, people are paying for them...Just a little further out, 30-50 miles away, several dealers are selling at MSRP for for locals only. Some will not sell outside of local area, some will but with $3-5K markup (one is asking 10K over) or they'll sell at MSRP as long you buy extended warranty plus extended maintenance for $3K. However this all points out that the market is slowly normalizing. I don't want to pay several thousands more now and regret it in a year.
My son just leased a Phev (BMW), he loves it, its both electric and gasoline, so he can run all his errands with the electric, and than for road trips, he can use the gasoline. Is the Lexus like my sons car? A phev?
I never knew you were based in my city. It is too late to order the NX450+ I would have to wait until 2024, and I have been in line for the RAV4 Prime since the winter of 2020.
A confirmation that Lexus treat all customers with the ultimate integrity, respectful , and cherish their business. . You have done great work on the different between NX 450 + and Toyota prime plug in hybrid.. The only discrepancy is the Tax credit because the NX 450+ is produced in Japan. I will upgrade to the NX 450+ soon.
My wife and is own a 2019 rav 4 and we love it. It is a base le 4cylinder model but it is a great vehicle so far. Lexus is probably better but rav 4 will get it done.
Reasons why Rav4 Prime is much much better 1. 0-60 quicker (5.4 sec vs 6 sec) 2. Higher ev range (42 miles vs 37 miles) 3. More fuel efficient 4. cheaper price by approximately 10k, can be more or less due to mark up on both cars. (48K MRRP VS 58K MSRP) 5. use regular gas vs premium gas 6. rav4 prime wins in Interior Dimensions in every categories. Only tie with 41 inches for front leg room. 7. has a spare tire 8. cheaper maintenance 9. better spec 10. rav4 prime look better, exterior. (just my opinion) he only thing NX 450h+ have better is the interior design and the Lexus "luxury' branding. And better warranty. But if you paid over 60k, the warranty better be better. lol. If you think that's worth 10k+ more, by all means. Overall you save way more money with a rav4 prime which does everything a 450h+ can do but better. Rav4 Prime is a no brainer.
Shopping around few states I was able to find a Prime XSE within a month..luck yes. There also isn't as many Lexus dealership as there are toyota and the ones that I was able to talk to they told me all of 2022 450H+ are sold out, I have to wait until 2023. The dealer markup is also riddiculous but i'm able to find one dealership where the markup was reasonable. Because there are fewer Lexus, most of their markup was the same, relatively high so not a lot of negotiation or shopping that can be done. I would agree with you that as a bells/whistles/build comparison it's a no brainer to go with Lexus class vs. Toyota, it's almost a given. However real work shopping experience and in this time would tend to dictate the typical consumer where money doesn't grow on trees so to a degree it's a moot point making the Toyota vs. Lexus comparison..just my humble and constructive feed back to your wonderfullly done video. Thanks.
I like the RAV4 Prime more because I agree with you- roomier interior, quicker 0-60, bigger cargo area, regular gas, less expensive to maintain, more fuel efficient, better sportier look, physical buttons, spare tire and also have heads up display. But the inside of the Lexus have better seats.
Great video, I also have a R4P but I agree with your comparison. Spouse has a NX300 2020 and she has reserved the new plug-in model. For the heck of it, I reserved the new plug-in RX450h+, keep my options open.
With the problems with supply chains to ramp up battery production, Toyota in a cooperation with other Automakers could start their own Hydrogen stations network. Not so long ago Tesla was a pioneer in expanding the supercharging network, that allowed them to capitalize a big share of the BEV market.
Honestly it doesn't matter which one you buy both of them are excellent car. Not if you care about the horsepower the Lexus has 304 where the Toyota has 302 not much difference there. You do lose 5 miles EV range when you're using Lexus plus you lose the Federal grand. The only reason why you may want Lexus IS the quietness inside the car and the luxury look, besides that the engines are practically the same. When I was looking for a car I looked at both of them and the deal breaker was the Federal Grant and I'm losing EV range so I went for the RAV 4 prime.
Just picked up a base NX450h+ in Edmonton for $61500 after waiting for one year. I am also on a waiting list for a Rav4 Prime. It's been 3 years and the dealer says maybe another 6 months. I was offered one from a canceled order for $60000. I am still on the Rav4 waitlist just to see how it going to play out. Some lucky guy will have a chance to buy my canceled order for a $10000 markup in months.
Just bought a Toyota Prime XSE 2024 and it looks like all of the features mentioned in the Lexus NX were inherited by the 2024 prime. Ofc, I can't speak on the driving experience for the Lexus, but love how well put my car is.
I can't say that I like the NX 450h+ better than the Rav4 Prime because I didn't test drive the Toyota. However, I love my NX 450h+! I've gotten 40-41 EV miles, which easily covers my average daily commute. I bought the car in late-October (2023) and it's mid-December and I've put 5.8 gallons of gas in the car (just because I was curious). Can't say enough about this car, its economy, it's technology, and it's luxury!
I wanted to get a NX350H for my daughter in college but none were around because it was a new model. Took awhile but purchased a Venza Limited. Really nice car, expensive with SouthEast Toyota BS add ons. The Lexus has run flats and older tire pressure systems. But I do like the tech in NX. Wish I held off a year beachside Venza screens are being updated so they can get over air updates and faster tech. Might get Lexus for other twin next year.
Hi David, thanks for all your coverage from Japan! Somehow I missed this particular video. Would you consider comparing the new RX 450h+ to the RAV4 Prime? Aren't those two closer size-wise? Thanks very much! Also, can you comment on the electronic door handles regarding if you get in a crash and emergency services need to get inside but you're not conscious? Can the exterior door handle be physically pulled (vs just touched) to open the door? Is it "jaws of life" if the door is locked and no one inside can unlock the doors? Thank you again for your excellent coverage.
Two reasons why Rav 4 Prime SE is better. We own two Rav 4 Primes that cost us $88,000 -$15,000 tax credit (over 2020 and 2021 tax year) = $73,000 out-the door for both. You can’t even come close to $73,000 for two NX. Try $140k out-the-door for two NX and guess what same gasoline motor and same exact battery.
The power speed and size swayed me to get the prime which should be coming in a few more weeks. Def not as luxury and great looking inside and out but I feel like that's not as important right now the way things are going. I can always do some upgrades on the Prime to make it more luxury feeling in the future
@@danielplainview6527 3-6 months but I got lucky and since I told them I'll take any prime they have one for me coming in a couple weeks for a total of less than 2 months
@@seanlincoln513 good question. Trying to figure that out. The model I'm getting is cloth seating so I'll be getting custom leather seat covers. Also getting an upgrade head unit that's all touch screen and has more features than the stock unit.. looks much better. It's a more rugged type interior look so gonna be challenging
I can attest to the NX safety. Nought a new MX 450H, totaled it after driving it for less than 1k miles 😥 (a drugged out person T-boned me on drivers side). Don't know how I survived that with very minimal injury, although the car was completely totaled with heavy driver side intrusion). I wanted to replace what I had, but I couldn't get a hold of another 450h+ and ended up getting a rav4 Prime XSE instead (it was the only thing that was readily available with a good deal after my car rental insurance ran out). I totally regret getting the rav4 prime this time around. The cabin noise is unreal in the rav4.
Love your reviews thanks It’s a bit unfair to compare these two cars because the Lexus is new and the Toyota is going to be updated in 2023 I think 🧐 which will update the infotainment system
The fixed door hand on the outside is a major benefit in snowy and icy environments. I have had door handle locking mechanism freezing problem in all the cars I have had, so I look forward that this will not have that.
Usually, if you are buying a prime, it's because you care about fuel efficiency, and that often means you like saving money. I'm not sure why someone would buy the NX prime when it is more expensive.
Dave, thanks for the video. While I am not in the market for either of these, I still love the reviews! Thanks and please keep the reviews coming! I’m still waiting for the 4Runner!
Enjoyed the review but surprised nothing was said about cargo space considering the significant differences. I also like the NX but 1/3 more space in the Rav with similar dimensions might be a deal breaker for me.
David, My definition of luxury includes a luxurious level of interior space. For that reason, I simply cannot understand why the luxury NX has LESS interior room than the everyday RAV4 when they are both built on the same platform. Furthermore, there is nothing premium or luxurious about those NX run-flat tires. ;-)
The Lexus is shaped differently its the roofline rake that changes capacity. If you can afford luxury you pay someone to deliver your goods, extra space not required
The 11th reason is that the Lexus has a vastly superior audio system, especially with the upgraded versions. Frankly, the JBL system in the RAV4 is horrendous. The Mark Levinson audio system in the Lexus is excellent.
The Rav4 also has a little bit better acceleration (10 % or something like that) due to the same reasons as with the electric range. Simply put Rav4 is sportier choice, rawer version and Nx the comfortable one.
I got the 450h+ over the Rav4 Prime because of the extra features and it was more comfortable, had a better ride, and was much quieter. I was not as concerned about the extra because I got the NX for MSRP and most of the Primes were going for almost as much as the NX because you could not get one. It took me 1 year and 1 month to get mine and at the time I ordered mine, it was at least 2 years to get a Prime. Plus the Lexus holds its value better.
I am looking at the Rav4 Prime and local dealer has around 40+ in stock starting around 46K, Lexus 450h+ is starting around 64K. Is the Lexus that much quieter to warrant 18K in price difference?
@@m22j-z3e You have to look at a rav4 that is top-of-the-line in order to get close to the NX450h+. The starting rav4 is not even in the same time zone with features. if you look at a LE then you are only about 6-8000 difference. Of all the Primes the RAV4 is the loudest and the roughest riding. When I ordered mine it was during the worst part of the chip shortage and a lot of dealers were asking for above MSRP for the RAV4 that you waited at least 2 years for. If you are looking for a plug-in hybrid with not very many features get the RAV4 if you want the top of luxury and comfort with all the bells and whistles then spend the extra money and get the Lexus you will not regret it. One last thing the RAV4 is only a 2.5 version of the safety system and the NX450h+ comes with a 3.0 version of that system. Which has a lot more features.
His option is bias, based on his personal favorite without disclosing all the facts. RAV4 Prime is faster, bigger space, more options that NX doesn’t have and yet it cost $10,000 less including all the options. This is not a fair comparison.
Very surprised and disappointed that Toyota is only giving a 4 year warranty for the Lexus in Canada. Here in Australia, ALL LEXUS MODELS FROM 1st JANUARY 2021 have come with a 5 YEAR FACTORY UNLIMITED KILOMETRE WARRANTY!
lol the reason I got a Nx instead of Rav4 is all the toyota dealership act like they are doing me a favor by not having dealership markup, while Lexus dealerships are eager to give me thousands in incentive to make the sale. So they end up about the same price. 🤷
The Lexus is gorgeous! Can’t afford it, especially not the plug-in, but if I could I would certainly consider the NX in hybrid or even maybe gas version.
Can you drive a "plug-in hybrid car" like a normal "hybrid car" without having to plug-in and charge, meaning, just drive it like a regular hybrid without pluging it to charge?
With both cars sharing the same platform, technically there would be no difference. The Lexus certainly has the premium luxury tag, but with the price point as well. I personally have the Prime equivalent here in the uk. I guess you pays ya money and takes ya choice.
great video really love the "10 reasons" these are effective and compelling arguments that highlight the value and compelling features of one over the other this is very assistive as opposed to another reviewer who might just give disjointed commentary that does not add clarity
Right now, my local Toyota dealer is adding $5000.00 “market value” to MSRP. The Lexus sealer is not. That makes the difference in actual cost much lower. Looks like I’ll wait about 45 days for my NX450h+.
David, do you know if the high voltage cable to mgr has been fixed? If so how? And is it advisable to use die electric grease on the cable ends to prevent corrosion? Just bought a 2022 rav4 hybrid and am concerned about the issue with the cable. Thanks
I haven't heard about that as a major issue, but let me see if I can find out more about it. In terms of using die electric grease for corrosion prevention, technically speaking that will work - but you might want to check with your dealer's technician.
@@AutomotivePress sounds like they are trying to start a recall in Canada where it seems to be a bigger problem. Thanks for your response and all your videos

You can have it serviced at most Toyota dealerships. Big savings that way.

I just got a 2024 Lexus NX 450h+ F-Sport. The prices for RAV4 prime xse compared to Lexus NX, it makes sense to get the better vehicle for around the same price.

I'm jealous! "Thou shalt not covet!' You just made me break a commandment.
XSE is so sexy 💦
Well for the much bigger price tag,I would hope Lexus would be superior to Rav4! It’s a no brainer!
(It's their explanation)
They have already added so much weight to do noise insulation.
Don't waste your time. Neither one are available in the real world.
10k+ price difference is the deal breaker for me...
The NX comes with run-flat tires so it doesn't require a spare. However, if you ever want to replace the tires you'll be paying extra for new run-flats.
I wasn’t convinced about both, until u did the punch test. Am sold
I would pick Rav4 prime over NX. Better price, bigger interior, horsepower.
What about his 10 reasons tho? 🤔
And the XSE has better looking exterior. Love that NX interior though for sure.
Yes you can get $7.5K rebate with NX 450h+…
@@chetpkristy just checked and you are actually correct now that they've raised the cut off, though it's only $5k federally. Here in BC you could get more but only if your income is below $100k, in which case you shouldn't be buying at $70k vehicle.
I’m debating between these two cars. Your review helped me tons. 👍🏻
The Rav is a far better car good value for money 😮
…..Glad you LOVE this car...........I own the 2022 450h+ F sport..Note the Heads Up display on the windshield W/14” Crystal clear display on both, alone makes the Lexus better........Mine is In Atomic Silver Glows in the Sun Light with Lil" grey metal flake" and same Circut Red interior.. but with Electric battery...Has 306 Horse power 0 to 60 in 5.6 sec (Via Road and track at drag strip!.) This model DOES- NOT have a TURBO...But rather, a Naturally aspirated / Carb...........(important because it is well known that TURBOS stress engines)...simply said: see euro cars shop time!....this car combines the Elec Batt and engine to achieve *89 miles per Gallon in Hybred mode with HIGH torq, And VERY quick out of the hole...Jus' blew the doors off a 735i beemer...albeit for only a block ...( I am no dummy a V* will eventually pass many cars in the long dist. ......However, who cares the thrill is initial take off and tickets are for high speed & SPEED...Kill's! My car has Red Calipers against Powder coated Gloss spoke Black mags and All red "F" Sport Badges........ FAR better built than euro's (mine built in Japan) sadly, new releases are now being made in Canada! Like USA Union shops...no one gets fired for a hang over and bad work??? maybe)..... However, Lexus is Far more reliable...Far better Re-Sale that Euro beemers or mercedes.......indeed mine has Gone UP in price...Not many cars you can find Like that!... ….One more thing, Jus' a heads up!......My wife drives the RX 2020 model...Consider putting Michelins on your NX 450h+ F Sport......Far and away EVEN a much smoother ride Much better ride than the HARD Run Flat Bridgestones that come stock. Carry a Batt. quality inflator ( DeWalt 20V MAX Corded/Cordless Air Inflator ) and string tar impregnated rope insert-er and Do-Not wait for AAA.
It is too late to order the NX450+ I would have to wait until 2024, and I have been in line for the RAV4 Prime since the winter of 2020.
i owned the nx450 plug in.its been 2 years my ev range went to 53 from 37 mi when i purchased.53mi during summer 46mi during winter..
I agree with what you say however, both cars fully kitted out the NX is $30,000+ more expensive
Lexus NX450h+ availability seems to have greatly improved recently.
I think you just sold me on the RAV4 phev. We are in November of 2023 and the RAV4 Prime is not hard to get in St. Louis Missouri.
Reasons why Rav4 Prime is much much better
1. 0-60 quicker (5.4 sec vs 6 sec)
2. Higher ev range (42 miles vs 37 miles)
3. More fuel efficient
4. cheaper price by approximately 10k, can be more or less due to mark up on both cars. (48K MRRP VS 58K MSRP)
5. use regular gas vs premium gas
6. rav4 prime wins in Interior Dimensions in every categories. Only tie with 41 inches for front leg room.
7. has a spare tire
8. cheaper maintenance
9. better spec
10. rav4 prime look better, exterior. (just my opinion)
he only thing NX 450h+ have better is the interior design and the Lexus "luxury' branding. And better warranty. But if you paid over 60k, the warranty better be better. lol.
If you think that's worth 10k+ more, by all means.
Overall you save way more money with a rav4 prime which does everything a 450h+ can do but better. Rav4 Prime is a no brainer.
They both can run on 87 octane as they share the same drivetrain.
I definitely prefer the NX seats and seat color choice.
Thanks.
Thank you so much for your feedback!
Thanks David, for your interesting review of these two cars. Both cars are excellent quality. Have a great day.
You're welcome Mark!
I have the NX450h+ & I totally agree with you that the NX is excellent. I didn’t have the RAV4 but I had RX.
I agree. H2 is an interesting space to watch. For the moment, I like the flexibility of a PHEV, and Toyota does it better than anyone.
The Mirai seems like a great car too.
I've had my NX450h for a few weeks and I love it.
I got on a waiting list for the Lexus specifically because it's a shorter queue. I was hoping for the Rav4 Prime, but it's unfortunately vaporware.
The reason for the door handle thing on the NX is so that they can provide exit safety. Perhaps just a warning would be better.
Can’t find either vehicles in our area. When the dealer has a Prime, it’s way above msrp.
This dude : I'm going to help you decide which car is better.
Also this dude : starts measuring the gaps between panels.
Venza is excellent too!
Lucky your kid! Congratulations!
Must be nice to spoil your daughter
Of course Lexus is more better than Rav4 you know what , the price is twice than Rav4, but I still love Rav4 its affordable and sufficient.
Honestly, it does not matter because you cannot get either cars at any dealer without crazy markups and 3 years wait.
The power speed and size swayed me to get the prime which should be coming in a few more weeks. Def not as luxury and great looking inside and out but I feel like that's not as important right now the way things are going. I can always do some upgrades on the Prime to make it more luxury feeling in the future
was the turn around time (order to delivery) for your prime? I’m hearing nine months to a year in my area (PNW), but less in other regions.
@@danielplainview6527 3-6 months but I got lucky and since I told them I'll take any prime they have one for me coming in a couple weeks for a total of less than 2 months
What can you do to make a Rav4 more luxurious?
@@seanlincoln513 good question. Trying to figure that out. The model I'm getting is cloth seating so I'll be getting custom leather seat covers. Also getting an upgrade head unit that's all touch screen and has more features than the stock unit.. looks much better. It's a more rugged type interior look so gonna be challenging
@@robglobal1 Do you pay above msrp?
How about interior cabin noise? Would assume NX has better sound damping materials?
Love your reviews thanks
It’s a bit unfair to compare these two cars because the Lexus is new and the Toyota is going to be updated in 2023 I think 🧐 which will update the infotainment system
It is TRUE
The fixed door hand on the outside is a major benefit in snowy and icy environments. I have had door handle locking mechanism freezing problem in all the cars I have had, so I look forward that this will not have that.
Usually, if you are buying a prime, it's because you care about fuel efficiency, and that often means you like saving money. I'm not sure why someone would buy the NX prime when it is more expensive.
This lexus is worth waiting 2 years for!!! I love the interior and the large 14 inch screen!!!
are u really comparing a Lexus to a toyota?
Funny thing is both are very hard to find on the dealers' lot or with huge markup
Dave, thanks for the video. While I am not in the market for either of these, I still love the reviews! Thanks and please keep the reviews coming! I’m still waiting for the 4Runner!
Thank you always for your kind comments Ralph!
You are correct but looks like Lexus is going after style more so than practicality...
@@AutomotivePress So it seems.
There are some on market, but dealer wants 20K more than list price of 61K for NX 450h +, It is not fair to compare Lexus with Toyota
The 11th reason is that the Lexus has a vastly superior audio system, especially with the upgraded versions. Frankly, the JBL system in the RAV4 is horrendous. The Mark Levinson audio system in the Lexus is excellent.
If the 11th digit of your VIN is a C, it was built on the exact same assembly line as the RAV4, in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
The Rav4 also has a little bit better acceleration (10 % or something like that) due to the same reasons as with the electric range.
Simply put Rav4 is sportier choice, rawer version and Nx the comfortable one.
That and the larger vertical boot space makes me prefer the rav. The infotainment system is a huge letdown though.
If you like a Mazda that’s what the Lexus looks like the RAV4 stands out as the Lexus reminds me of a Mazda CX-5
The biggest problem with the NX is I can’t afford it. I bought the RAV4 and don’t regret it. I also saved a ton of cash.
I prefer the one that cuts out more road noise.
Have they fixed the corroding high voltage cable. Do both cars have the same part
no they not fixed.
You get what you get and you don't get upset
Thankyou so much for this
With the current car price, I am going to wait for a few years.
Obviously lexus would be better its expensive as well
Love this car and the rav4, I own a conventional hybrid AWD, and it drives well and still turns head. But the waiting 😂😂
lol the reason I got a Nx instead of Rav4 is all the toyota dealership act like they are doing me a favor by not having dealership markup, while Lexus dealerships are eager to give me thousands in incentive to make the sale. So they end up about the same price. 🤷
The Lexus is gorgeous! Can’t afford it, especially not the plug-in, but if I could I would certainly consider the NX in hybrid or even maybe gas version.
Just the video I was looking for
Does the Lexus, have the plug in? (Phev), so you have
Half electric & and gasoline too?? (Phev????)?
Waiting list for both = 12 years before it arrives.
Good luck finding either one of these for sale at msrp
In China, if you drive a Lexus you are respected.
I decided against Lexus Nexus because only turbocharged engine was available
holding on to my 2018 LS500 F-Sport for now
Rav4p with lexus interior is the perfect vehicle
great video
really love the "10 reasons"
these are effective and compelling arguments that highlight the value and compelling features of one over the other
this is very assistive as opposed to another reviewer who might just give disjointed commentary that does not add clarity
Thank you so much!
Thank you David.
Rav4 has real trunk space the Lexus doesn’t come close.
i like the looks of the rav4 a lot more
Great comparison! Thank you. I guess I had better get my Lexus on order. :-)
now im more into that new rx500h performance.
@@naveenthemachine dude. If you know you know 😂😂
Performance suv vs a sedan. What are you trying to compare 😂😂.
Right now, my local Toyota dealer is adding $5000.00 “market value” to MSRP. The Lexus sealer is not. That makes the difference in actual cost much lower. Looks like I’ll wait about 45 days for my NX450h+.
The RAV4 Prime has heads up display if you buy the premium package.
Class action law suit filled
Waiting list? No way….when I decide to buy a car… it has to be right there and then….
Sure if you're willing to pay ridiculous markup.
Is it worth the 10k price difference?
which one is better in snow, and other off road.
