  • In this day of rising crime and rising resistance to rules, laws and authority, less lethal weapons designed to gain a subjects compliance without risking his/her life are even more important than ever. We’re looking at the JPX Pepper Gun and the Byrna EP Pepperball Gun. We’re looking at how each one operates and then we’ll shoot each one and see the damage they can cause to a threatening subject.

    The reason the safety is good for the Byrna is because you can leave the safety on while piercing the c02. This makes your 1st shot very strong. Without safety, you lose power on that 1st shot because the marker is trying to launch the kinetic round while piercing the c02. Hope this helps.

    I just bought a SD and the safety is different than yours. I also bought a bag of aluminum balls as well as pepper balls. I’m in South Carolina. Yahoo! I grew up with firearms so this is rather new to me.

  • @AmbuBadger
    @AmbuBadger Год назад +3

    I'd say the Byrna is close in size to an FNP40, I've got both and it's a decent comparison. I also have an Umarex HDP 50 and find it similar to the Glock 34 in size.
    Back on topic, I looked at both and went with the Byrna. The ability to reload faster as well as Hawaii being a pain to get any preloaded cartridges shipped to were biggies. Another plus is you can adjust the power by increasing the striker spring tension via that hex screw at the rear of the Byrna, and at close range the "kinetic" rounds will punch through side auto glass. I have my first few rounds as solids with pepper to follow, idea being if someone tried to snatch my kid, a car full of pepper dust would be vacated pretty quickly. The magazines will dump rounds if you press the retainer, but I 3D printed some covers for them. Also, O-Light makes a very compact weapon light that scarcely increases the footprint. Finally, with 12 gram CO2 adapters and .68 cal rounds readily available, one can get a lot more practice with the Byrna, which is what really matters.
    Side note, I wonder if a spent JPX cartridge could be modified with a barrel liner to accommodate .22 lr/mag cartridge...

      @AmbuBadger Год назад

      @slimdunkin117 I went with the Byrna in case I have to shoot at auto glass, so I'm mostly loaded up on kinetic ammo. I looked at the JPX and it seems I'm going to need a clean shot at bare skin to be most effective, but ultimately it came down to which I'd be able to practice the most with. Thanks for your input, Mahalo from Hawaii

    • @slimdunkin117
      @slimdunkin117 Год назад +2

      @@AmbuBadger it doesn’t have to be bare skin since it smells nasty as hell (I shot it at a wall to test), and it’s really hard to get it off, it’s not water soluble..I got some on my skin and it wouldn’t come off for 40 minutes..
      But for auto glass it would be useless..if you’re looking for a stronger “punch”, grimburg sells gavle pistols and modified firststrike fsc co2 guns that shoot at 36 joules. They have their own projectiles too that hit hard

    • @AmbuBadger
      @AmbuBadger Год назад +3

      @slimdunkin117 That jelly stuff sounds like what we need loaded in the .68 cal projectiles, but I know it wouldn't disperse consistently (seen this while playing paintball). I guess it's the same conundrum we run into in the shooting world-- you never know what you're going to have to shoot through to defend yourself! It's why I always have a few slugs on my shotgun.

    • @civopsgear8758
      @civopsgear8758  Год назад +2

      Agreed completely. There really needs to be a “compact” version which is more concealable for civilians. I purchased a leather pancake holster for mine and it holds tightly to the body above the belt line, but it’s still such a bulky weapon that a tshirt wont cover it without printing so it needs a hoody or jacket over it. It’s a great and very effective weapon but you’re 1000% correct, it’s very bulky to carry concealed. Thanks for the comment!!

      @@civopsgear8758 My EDC is a Byrna SD in an Urban Carry LockLeather OWB holster. I don't even know it's there, and it doesn't print as bad as I worry it might. Even wearing a white tee shirt, I've had people surprised I was carrying as they never noticed it. But then again, I'm 6'4" and close to 300 pounds. The only time it becomes an issue is when my peripheral neuropathy gets bad and I walk with a cane on my strong side. Even then, the cane helps cover any printing.

    Up until last spring, civilians could purchase and use OC/PAVA rounds in California by taking the BSIS Chemical Certification exam through an contract with Byrna. Governor Newsom changed the laws to make it impossible to do so now because the Byrna was a threat to the criminal activities going on here in California. Yes. There are news stories out there of people being killed after pointing imitation firearms at the cops. Some guy in New York got shot by the police after he pointed a Byrna pistol at the cops. Perp pointed a less lethal device at the cops and the cops turned it lethal. A kid in Northern California got shot to death when he pointed his toy rifle at the cops. If someone decides to use an imitation firearm for self defense, they better understand that things can get hairy real quick and the response can turn lethal.

      The point of these less lethal guns is to give you the chance to get away, not get into a fire fight. Also these things are very effective at putting an attacker down for anywhere from 5-30 minutes depending on the payload. I know as I've been shot by a Byrna and it'll definitely take the fight out of you instantly.

      Me working at Piexon, I obviously know that there is situations where a firearm will be necessary. I always have lethal and less lethal options. The issue with real firearms is always the legal strings attached when you have to use it. That is the reason I think less lethal tools also have a place in every kit. Of course there is many options out there, and it doesn't have to be one of our devices but the ability to defend an attack without all the legal trouble is well worth considering imo.
