I’m an ex cqc instructor. For those who don’t know, The benefit of the strobe light is, at night it will blind the person you are aiming at. IN THE DARK, Have someone stand 10-20’ away with a light pointing at you and you’ll still be able to see The periphels around the light. Now have someone point a strobe light at you.. You won’t be able to see shit around that light. So use the steady light to search, and if you run across someone, use the strobe light when engaging them.
I used the kimber when a junky/wino all around dangerous crazy pain the ass, complete with bottle in hand (now there's a cliche if there ever was one) was about to charge me from a sidewalk's distance away. He took one one step, no time to aim, pulled it out and the little gel wad these things have in them hit him right on the bridge of the nose with the spray getting his whole face.. He just put up his hands, turned and walked away screaming. He made it half a block before he collapsed screaming about how he was blind and going to die. Now I didn't see this part but, I have a witness that did and relayed it back to me. The cops came and they knew him from being everything i mentioned earlier and a regular pain in their ass. They said, hi Joe what'd you do tonight to manage to get yourself pepper sprayed? He just screamed and told them he was going to die. So they called an ambulance and when that showed up and tried to treat him he wouldn't accept the help and just continued to roll around screaming and cursing... to which all four of them 2 cops and 2 paramedics had a good laugh. Word I got was he was 100% out of commission for nearly an hour. That kimber is one nasty little product
The Mace gun canister looks like the commercial air freshener canisters used for automatic spraying on a timer. I've had the Kimber units before, but never deployed one. The new one seems to be an improvement over the original which shot a quick stream. The bulk of the Mace gun is ridiculous- could probably carry twin Kimbers in the same volume. I did a review of the Byrna, and found it to be an overpriced and enormous fail- fun as a toy, but not as a defense. Looks as if we'll replace our expired Kimbers with more Kimbers.
The Kimber also marks the target so they can be ID'd after the incident. It also has greater range. The assailant has to be too close with the others, and you'll be getting spray on yourself with the Ruger model.
Great review. The Ruger is garbage in my opinion.. The aerosol spray is not a good idea for many reasons. And you demonstrated that perfectly in your review haha 🍻 The Kimber Pepper blaster seems cool BUT There are faults. There is no margin for error . ie: you need to be accurate. In hostile situations, regular people are nervous, not as accurate and there’s a good chance the target is moving.. It’s non reloadable.. 2 shots and your done, you gotta buy another. Then there’s the expiration date… The a mace gun is the best out of the 3. I like the two light modes, very useful in the dark. steady light for searching/target acquisition, strobe when engaging to blind the target. It puts out a great stream that you can walk to your target if you initially miss. It’s reloadable!!! And the canisters are very affordable. The only con is, it is kind of bulky…
I carry Kimber pepper blaster... But I carry a mace pepper guard also. Pepper stream with flip top canister.. no safety to screw around with.... I was charged by customers trained attack dog.. large German Shepherd one time some years back... Managed to grab my mace pepper guard.. with flip top and sprayed two streams of spray into the dog's eyes.. it took about 12 seconds in the dog went down rubbing his eyes with his paws!
The Mace pepper spray gun is awesome. It WILL soak a person down, usually incapacitate them, and give you time to apply the Nike principal. Much better, usually, than a firearm..... which you don't USUALLY need. And remember, firearms are most often hand-in-hand with a lawyer, which computes to around $150.000 in legal and civil fees. The Mace gun should be treated in every way like an actual firearm!
Your test failed to test many other considerations. How well can they be concealed? How well can they tolerate being stored in hot or cold environments? How quickly can they be accessed for use?
Why I always skip my Kimber blaster in my hand, I carry one without the pistol grip, it's about as large as a credit card, an it's in my hand anytime someone trys to walk up to me I have it in my hand. People ask for a smoke or use the phone to get close to you just be aware of your surroundings an keep strangers at a distance.

Get the Sabre aim and fire same as mace gun except it’s gel and it’s also reloadable and very slim and the canisters are slimmer than mace

Just get a gel type pepper spray canister. You get more shots vs using a gun with a proprietary ammo canister.
