I’ve felt like this several times throughout the last two years, mainly because of the updates that have came out. 1.17 and 1.18, while they were not bad updates, we waited so long for the updates that almost all the hype was gone. The new terrain was amazing, but once you get used to it, you don’t really appreciate or care about it anymore 95% of the time. We waited 8 months for 1.19 to come out and all of the features in the update don’t change the way I play Minecraft. Ancient cities are cool, but they don’t have any loot that’s outstanding or new that would change how I play Minecraft. 1.20 needs to be game changing and impactful, like 1.14 & 1.16, so that players are motivated to play Minecraft, otherwise the downward trend we’ve been seeing lately for Minecraft will become even worse.

A good strategy to avoid burn out from my experience is to avoid planing things put long term. If you allow yourself to have that spontaneity, then you limit yourself to small things and avoid getting overwhelmed and eventually burned out.
In particular, i suggest avoiding trying to build massive bases, and instead stay small and continuously add to the small one.

    • @1990EscortXR3i
      @1990EscortXR3i Год назад +23

The problem is still the same tho, just in another shape. You'll either get burnt out of making smaller builds or just default back to a mega build after a while. I'm going through the same right now. Not even multiplayer is fun anymore. The only "solution" I can think of would be specializing in another area of minecraft. I, for example, am a builder, and the only thing that seems insteresting to learn right now is redstone and farms. But then other problems surface. When I finally learn redstone, will that satisfy me? When it inevitably fails, will I be able to at least enjoy multiplayer, or will I be "too good"? I have some friends that only recently got into minecraft, but everytime I play with them my first instinct is to speedrun the early game so that I can start making my complicated stuff. As sad as it is, I don't think there really is a way back that doesn't involve a random longing.

I've found myself modding Minecraft more and more over the past few years, so I feel this. While I generally go for the Vanilla++ kind of vibe, at this point I've added additional dungeons, mobs, bosses, longer progression with more ores, and even farming and food overhauls. Just added Origins to my Minecraft for a bit of additional spice too. They genuinely help, though adjusting the json files so all these bedrock addons can work together is absolutely a pain in the ass (and I'm pretty sure a few aren't even actually working at full capacity).
I recently abandoned the Grand Bastion I'd been building in order to go start a town a thousand blocks away or so. One with actual houses and shops that villagers can wander around in. Changing goals can help with the motivation, and give enough of a bit of a mental break to come back to an old project. I know me, when I start considering turning this town into a full megalopolis, I'll just return to the Grand Bastion.

I think part of why Etho has managed to keep going for so long is his exploration of new game mechanics and/or new ways to use old ones. Every few episodes, there's always some sort of new redstone or technical project. Not just copying off some useful design on the internet, but figuring out interesting and creative ways to make use of game mechanics to achieve an end goal. Add in some building, and of course showing off the process, and its a good formula to keep things interesting for years. Even then, Etho is well known for his unfinished projects (the library, Nexxus, and poor Wilson are well known for being nearly complete for many years, Wilson is approaching the decade mark at this point). Its just the natural way Minecraft goes, some projects just get too tedious late game and you have to find ways to keep things interesting.

I think everyone goes through burnout no matter what they’re doing. Sometimes goals can just seem unattainable. Personally, whenever I go through burnout or start to lose motivation, I lower the scale of my goals. Instead of focusing on that massive megabase castle that I always dream of building, I take it one day at a time, setting smaller, attainable goals for me to accomplish that day. This allows me to feel like I’m accomplishing something everyday, even if it is small steps. Eventually, these steps add up and allow you to finally have a staircase all the way up to your initial, super ambitious goal. Also, remember that breaks are perfectly fine. Just come back and continue a week or a month down the line. It doesn’t matter how long of a break it is, only that you come back strong. Don’t feel bad about taking the break, because feeling bad will only make you less incentivized to return, defeating any possibility of attaining your goals. Sorry that the comment was a bit long, thanks for reading!

and in the case of mojang the only way i can blame them for this that can make sense is how bad their Progression system is in the game
if people want a reason to continue playing the game and in their world or realms they have to at least add new worlds like the END and bosses in them
a way where the Ender Dragon is the First Boss in the game and afterwards there are tons of bosses that are way way stronger and Needs you the player to Grind and build farms that can help you become OP and go fight these strong bosses

When I feel like I don’t have the motivation to do something in Minecraft, I just forget about it and start working something else, something little, slowly but sheerly I regain my motivation. Don’t worry about building something huge, just build onto it, bit by bit, because thinking of it as a chore or as something you have to do can make keeping that motivation hard. One thing I do is just not have a plan, once you have a plan, you tend to stick to it, making it harder to do anything besides it, so forget the build plan and just have fun, building what you thing would be a cool addition to your base or project.

If you just work all the time and never relax you wont have fun at that part of your life. Don’t concentrate too much on the future and enjoy the presence. Just remember how much time you spend playing tag when you were 6 or something like that. You could have learned for school doing thing like learning how to spell new words. But you didn’t and you didn’t care and just did your own stuff and it probably didn’t do anything bad to what’s happening right now. If it didn’t really matter then why should it now?

I personally add lore to my survival worlds nearly right in the beginning, and develop the lore as time goes on, the goal being to make the best lore about your world as possible
In the late game I start doing challenges, like "No elytra and find a new woodland mansion", "eat [food item] for [x] days"
And if that world is along side friends we can discuss about how the lore us going to work out as well as a Olympics style tournament, featuring Parkour, PvP, Foot race, Horse race, pig race, Trident race, Swimming, Archery, a competition whose goal is to fly through rings in the sky with an elytra and fireworks, and as a finale we have to beat 10 withers together without enchanted gear and if we win, we make a party with fireworks, if we don't, we kill the withers with our normal gear, and the fireworks would be still launched but they would be black symbolising the wither won and we have to work harder and come up with a better strategy next time around.
If none of these work, start a new world, I would recommend hardcore or super flat, or both, because you'll start appreciating the small things and will give you more motivation to your main world as well as some ideas or builds you got in that world
And if the last advice I gave you wasn't still enough to satisfy you, you should step down from playing Minecraft for a while (like half a year at least), and in that time period you can focus on real life problems as well as ways that would satisfy your likings and give you motivation at the same time, because nobody knows more about you than yourself.

This is one of the many incidents that just... happens when you try to push something that isn't supposed to be pushed.
I've had the same thing happen to me, where I burnt out of MC for a couple of years, probably around 4, playing Fortnite until around Chapter 2, Season 3 where I suddenly got the urge to start playing Minecraft again, and since then my motivation while playing has been through the roof.
It's one of those things that you can't fight, and you can't get false motivation, because if you do, you'll end up pushing the game away even further.
A good way to become refreshed in MC is just... not playing it. It sounds weird, but the more you stay away from the game, the more nostalgic it can feel when you finally boot up that survival world that you haven't played on in 3 years.
My point is to not rush motivation, because if you do, you'll end up continuing to burn yourself out. its what caused me to stop playing MC for the 4 years.

  • @TheFlyfly
    @TheFlyfly Год назад +1

Recently i had a 2 month break from Minecraft because, just like you, i had really big projects going that i wanted to complete, but i became too overwhelmed to work on them. When i returned from the break, i literally just ignored the big projects, and decided to do some small renovations instead. The renovations actually gave me motivation and inspiration to start a new, smaller project that i'm currently working on (building a bridge). It's also given me some more motivation and confidence to work on the bigger projects later, once the bridge is finished.
Putting overwhelming projects on hold, or even outright cancelling them seems like it could be quite helpful if you want to continue playing on a world. I've done it quite a few times by now, and every time it has helped me work on other things in Minecraft that i care more about.
(For example: I cancelled a Nether Update showcase, and it turned into a Cave Update showcase instead. I completely cancelled the destruction of a desert. I paused work on a railway, and now i'm continuing it. I paused and resumed the construction of a castle many, many times over the course of 3 years and counting, but it is definitely getting finished, even if progress is slow)
I'd suggest you to just scrap the tree farm for now, and take a walk around your builds to find if there's anything you want to change. Take it slow as well. The small things do feel really rewarding a lot of the time, and maybe after doing a few small projects, you'll feel confident enough to pick up the big projects once more.
A thing about my play-style that might contribute to my motivation to play on the same world, and that is different from your play-style, is that i don't have an overarching goal. Almost every project i make is its own self-contained thing. Only sometimes will i make big coherent project with multiple complex steps needed to finish them, but even then, those projects aren't the main goal of my world.
The only real point of my world is to do stuff that could be fun, which mostly means building fun things. I don't need to worry about only furthering a single goal, so any project that i take up is valid. I think not having a goal might be something that could keep the game fun for longer, because i can choose to do anything and don't need to worry about whether i'm doing the "correct" thing, or the thing i "should be doing".
Finishing a standalone project also feels more rewarding than finishing a project that's part of something bigger, because you know for sure when a standalone project is finished.
I also write down a lot of ideas i have for things i could do, so i don't run out of project ideas and can always work on a different project if i get bored.

What maybe doesn't help is the relative lack of content in updates- once you beat an ancient city, for example, there's not much left to do in 1.19.

The only time i play Minecraft survival is when my friends want to make a new world, but they have the same feelings and don't want to commit to another world we will just end up abandoning. Hytale is the only game that actually sounds fun to play and not a chore that I will need a second life to grind and it's not even out yet. The only thing that will bring me back to survival is a major update that adds an entirely new gameplay loop like npc factions or procedurally generated dungeons just something that breaks up the monotony of late game Minecraft.

From what I have learned from playing my first long term world, (since Release 1.14) is:
    1. Always have multiple projects, it's okay to leave things unfinished.
    2. Sometimes it's just nice to do casual grinding and goofing off instead of working on something useful.
    3. Take breaks, don't force yourself to play. That's the issue I see with many people. They don't take breaks.
    4. Change things up once in a while. For example: if you're a builder, maybe try and learn redstone for a bit as a change of pace.
But honestly, number 3 is probably the most important. If you're burned out, TAKE A BREAK. You're not making things any better by forcing yourself to play.

I always struggled playing survival, as most of my friends play java edition and I bedrock. As you, I have a hard time re-engaging in the game, and part of the reasons might be underwhelming updates, as 1.17 was split, in 1.18 we didn't get the deep dark, 1.19 was supposed to be The wild update, even though in reality it was the deep dark update with a swamp and frogs. I belive 1.16 was the last update that changed the game in such a way, that it got more challenging, fun.. Becuse it took a realtivly boring nether and made it more diverse, more interesting and challenging as it added bastions. 1.17 and 1.18 failed in this, especially after dealying the deep dark twice, 1.19 again underwhelmed us, as for a wild update we only got a swamp and finally the deep dark.

I'm planning to build a gold farm after I'm done with helping my friend complete his drained ocean monument (adding trees, lakes, etc), I'm also playing on an SMP for context. But in reality, after that... I don't have much else planned. My gear is maxed out, I've aquired so many totems and emeralds from raids, have killed all the withers I'd ever need to, have aquired every music disc, weapon, multiple shulker boxes, elytra, the list goes on. I don't really see purpose in doing anything else, other than maybe fixing up an ancient city. I hope Minecraft makes serious changes in 1.20 to prevent this sort of endless loop and inevitable motivation killing.

I have a rather philosophical interpretation of that.
Minecraft is in many ways similar to life itself. Especially, the fact that both have no set objective (apart from the Ender Dragon, obviously. But no one really considers that the final goal so anyway).
What is the objective of life? Some might say it is to "be good" and go to heaven in the end (regardless of which religion you believe in), some might say it is to "be happy", others may say it is to exerce their profession. Some might not have an answer for that. It's really up to you.
What makes you get out of bed every morning?
You can try to apply the same logic to Minecraft.
You can try to "be good": free the end from the Dragon, save villages from raids, free Allays from their prisons etc.
You can try to be happy: do whatever gives you joy! Do you like music? Build a note block arrangement for your favorite song! Do you like drawing? Try map pixel arts! Photography? Screenshots!
You can try to exerce your profession: are you an engineer? Do redstone! An architect? Build your craziest ideas in your world!
You don't know what gets you up in the morning? Well, that's okay too. Think about it, it can really help you figure out more abou yourself :)
Not sure why or how I just thought of all of that, but hope it helps someone :)
    Edit: spelling

@@alternateperson1840 I think automatic farms actually are what kill the joy of game for most people.
Part of the fun of Minecraft for me is just mining for hours and collecting a bunch of resources. I just put on some music or a podcast snd hang out. It’s really relaxing and peaceful. It’s like going for a walk.
There’s just so much more satisfaction after completing a build when you go out and collect all the resources you need. I’ll have entire play sessions where I get on for like 2 hours and just mine. Then I hop off to go play another game or do something else before I go back on and either mine some more or start building.
Automatic farms take away one of the core parts of survival, which is to go out and mine for resources and so it’s no wonder players start to get bored.
Every build in the world doesn’t need to have a use either. I can build a giant secret alien base in the mountains just because it’s fun and adds some life to the world. Minecraft at its core is just a game about being creative and building an actual world that should be full of villages, cities, magical castles, wizards towers, whatever a player can think of. I think there’s definitely some improvements that can be made to survival though to make it more separate from creative like adding some kind base defense system where you there are benefits to building certain things in your base that can help defend against mobs. Like maybe it would be cool if you can get a certain light source that emits light that mobs can’t walk into and it can only be powered by redstone so as a way to encourage players to build lighting infrastructure around their world. Maybe there are zombie hordes that will go towards your base so you build walls all around your base to prevent them from getting to your main house.

This is very relatable. Thank you for making this video. I’m subscribed, and this video helps me relate to my troubled and lovely times playing this age old game. Thank you for doing this! Anyway, you have such a point with this video, here’s some of my experiances with this in Minecraft. When I started playing, I played on Xbox. I had no PC, no nothing. I just kind of did what I did. I was new, inexperienced, and just rolled with it. Not knowing what was to come, I slowly figured it out, but it was so fun learning all the new things, exploring, and everything in between. I had no idea of all the biomes, mechanics, blocks, mobs, and I just explored and immersed myself till I got the hang of it. Those times were GOLDEN. me and my brother just explored endlessly, did what we thought worked, and slowly worked our way upwards. We soon learned stuff like building, (which would be the most crucial part of it later) and PvP, and more. Then, I immersed myself in MCYT and all that stuff. I learned everything about the game, and became really into it. It soon became a main focus of my free time. Years later, I finally got my first PC. this was a huge moment, as this is when I became really serious with building, redstone, PvE, PvP, and more. I had gotten my hands on Java edition, making it easier to play. I started this long term world in 1.14 and In the first day, had gotten full diamond gear. It felt good at the time. I felt like I was an actual “pro” and it seemed as though my days would be perfect, with infinite days to come. I slowly built up my world, traded with villagers, got enchanted, and by the end of the month, beat the dragon. That’s when things took a turn. You see, I have ADHD. This disorder has a wire in my brain that makes me lose motivation or have a short attention spam easily. This was more important later in the story.
I had a huge cobblestone castle made, (it was quite ugly) and it was my main base of operation. I was left confused with so many things to do, that I got overwhelmed. But I found some things to work on, but Found myself not taking my time at all, and making these rushed structures. This was in 1.15, and I started rushing my projects, getting bored easily, and I realized I was lonely. The game had nobody for me t be with, other than those AI dogs in Minecraft. I took a long break, until around 1.16 released. I rediscovered Minecraft as a whole. I had abandoned my world, come back to it and felt so lost. I had forgotten everything in it, and I felt blank. I felt like if I took a break I’d lose my motivation and abandon it again. I couldn’t handle it. Then, I finally found a server. It was so fun. I was with friends, but I felt as though I needed to rush and allocate all my irl time to be on the server so I wouldn’t miss out. I was torn between single player and multiplayer. Both had drawbacks and I couldn’t choose. I then took another break, only to rediscover Minecraft in 1.18. Then, I discovered modded Minecraft. This changed it for me. I had unlimited access to infinite worlds. The mods could be anything. I could have so many goals, not get lost in the blankness, so many blocks, dimensions, mobs, bosses, etc. modded minecraft made it so much more fun, and it wasn’t so empty any longer. That’s where I am today, and I’m glad.

I feel you mane it's been the same for me too. Last fun version to play for me was 1.7.10 and since then my interest in minecraft was on a decline to the point where i haven't even opened the game for almost 2 years now. I feel it's because the community has evolved a lot since. back then you would make a small home or a town and be happy, while right now you see all these super massive and detailed builds or efficient farms and you don't want to make such a big project but your small house isn't imperessive to you anymore. I miss the times of beta minecraft

I feel what your feeling, too. I don't even try to defeat the ender dragon first thing in a new world anymore, I do it when I want to travel more and get more resources. Then after getting all those resources I get bored with minecraft and turn to different games. Only to return when there is a new major update, and even then I can't bring myself to play hours upon hours of minecraft like when I was younger.

Im in the same boat. Currently I’m playing a big modpack with the hope that the motivation I’ll get from finishing it will be enough to create a new vanilla world, world with the main goal of playing differently. I took a lot of inspiration from etho and loony and their play-style, building a build for each thing, instead of trading hall I’ll have a village, with villagers, cats and dogs roaming around, having a flying nether city for hub, having a space station for enderman farm, etc. I’m not really a builder so I’ll have to have lots of motivation to start with, but i know it would be way more rewarding afterwards. I know I can always go more and more technical so I’ll always have new farms to build and new building to host those farms. Maybe you should try doing it too. Changing your play-style, adding rules to limit your abilities and making sure you have even more of a reason to build stuff like infrastructure. Maybe even trying new side of the game, learning new stuff etc. I’ll suggest playing a modpack if you haven’t done it yet, it might be hard to find a good one at first but eventually you’ll find one that you like.

1.13 was my favorite update, idk why but a tropical paradise is my dream minecraft base, so much so that if minecraft stopped posting updates after 1.14 i'll still be motivated lol.
but sadly i haven't done that yet and i feel so tired whenever i think of playing on that smol hardcore world.

I usually build big and fancy structures and as I play in time I start turning them into ruins or give them an worn out or abandoned look. My cities, I simply turn them into battlefield/no-man's-land when a raid happens.

I fully agree that single player minecraft has gotten incredibly boring. I think anyone who isn't new to Minecraft can agree that single player can get extremely boring very quickly. It's unfortunately true.

true it can get boring but with mods it can be a different story and endless of fun

Mojang is doing a great job. Making single player boring and making players scared to play multiplayer because of the 1.19.84 update.

Just be aware of what are taking on in a project. If it's absolutely massive, you have to do it slowly over time with breaks in between. Otherwise you WILL burn yourself out. And it's okay to want to play other games and worlds and servers. Your single play world is not gone as long as it's not deleted.

For me regular Survival was boring because there were no risks or anything, you can just die for hunger etc. That's when i decided i wanted a challenge, started playing hardcore but not just any hardcore. Hardcore with tons of weird mods, i died multiple times in my attempts but never got bored, so far i am on my longest run right now and planning to build my base which is a giant crocodile laying on a desert, yes I want to live inside a crocodile.

I had the same thing happen to me mid 2021, i got so tired and i didnt play for half a year. Then, one of my friends who im not used to playing mc with, and i started a world. No goal, just messing with eachother.
My solution was, have fun doing shit you wouldn't in a serious world. It works!

I started playing real survival last year, but only in the last 3 months really stuck to 1 world, so luckily i havent burnt out on survival hust yer. I have a few decent farms, overworld gold Farm, zero tick kelp bonemeal farm which feeds a mini sugarcane, or bamboo farm. A small iron farm/ trading hall, a self designed redstone cobblestone generator(Bedrock edition somehow always allows the lava to outrun water in standard generators). Recently finished a raid farm, and was about to start a GIANT trading hall, containing every trade imaginable.
