    Christopher Eccleston is quite stern, but he's one of the most honest and principled people out there and deserves a lot of respect. He always stands up for others, be it actors struggling to find work in hard economic times or criticising on-set problems in productions. He also has a vendetta against the royal family, which is honestly pretty based.

    • @generalj216
      @generalj216 7 месяцев назад +5

      What’s his problems about the royal family? I’m not a big fan either but for him it seems personal

    • @stuff31
      @stuff31 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@generalj216 To him, they represent a fundamental injustice when it comes to class and influence. The royals are rich and famous despite doing jack shit besides being mascots for the remnants of the British Empire, they did nothing to earn their position. Meanwhile Eccleston grew up in a poor family and struggled hard to get where he was and has seen many others try just as hard only to fail simply due to the position they started at. To him, the royals are the very epitome of the class divide. A load of inbred imperial weirdos elevated to godhood in the public eye by virtue of bloodline, whilst honest men and women can work for every day of their life and never escape poverty. They are "parasites" who leech off of the public money pot whilst preserving the divide between the classes through their unearned status of power.

    I met Christopher at Phoenix Fan Fusion in June, didn't go to his panel but he was lovely for the few minutes that I was with him. Me and my sister sang some Irish songs with him! My sister was dressed as a korok from tears of the kingdom and he saw her leaf mask and started singing this song (clearly didn't know what she was dressed as) and we were like, wait we know that song! And he was like, it's an old irish tune! And we went to a Catholic school that was run by Irish nuns so we learned a few Irish songs and sang them on Saint Patrick's Day. But we sang another one together that we remembered so that was really lovely that that's my experience with Christopher Eccleston.

    One of the things I want to say is that being from Manchester, for years I had hoped to meet and bump into him.
    I was thrilled when this was happening and I immediately booked after having a huge fit to my mum begging for money I more or less didn’t have. 😂
    She agreed it must happen though.
    And I was so lucky to hear this panel, and meet him in person.
    I still remember getting my photo, I immediately and unintentionally blanked him. I gave the staff my bag, he said Hiya, shook my hand, but I didn’t say anything.
    I left with my bag and collected my photo thinking “Fucking hell, he probably thinks I’m a twat!”
    After the panel which I watched all the way through, I queued for the autograph. Immediately on approaching, I apologised for blanking him. That had never happened before, not even with David Tennant!
    I genuinely didn’t know what happened. But the first thing he did was hold my hand and say “Don’t apologise to me mate. You’ve got nothing, absolutely nothing to apologise for.” And I was stood there embarrassed giggling like a little girl while he held my hand. Clearly I was on some kind of non drug euphoric trip!
    He is a genuine, kind and amazing person. I like that he’s truthful, and says what he’s thinking. He is honestly just an amazing guy. It made my love for both him and his work so much stronger!
    He is absolutely on par with my love for David Tennant who until Chris, was the best actor I had ever met because much like Chris, he was kind, compassionate and very easy to talk to.
    Chris doesn’t exactly beat him, they’re very much equal in terms of my favourite actors I’ve met because of experiences I’ve had with them.
    Meeting both of them was just surreal.
    Also, YOU LIVE IN SALFORD?! SO DO I!!!!

He's full of integrity and honesty and I actually can understand his reasons. I even agree with him about Moffat being the writer who best nailed the character of the 9th Doctor in that first season. Is it? I'm genuinely interested in what the truth is here. Is there anyone else other than Eccleston who has a problem with him? This isn't the first time Eccleston has walked out after the first series of something due issues with the show runner. Cracker, for example, I remember him complaining that his character wasn't getting the good writing the other characters got, and Jimmy McGovern had to work hard to get him to come back to film an exit for the character at the beginning of series 2. What did RTD actually do? It sounds like series one was a chaotic mess, but that's pretty normal for a TV series finding its feet. I'm genuinely interested as to what RTD actually did, because to me, Eccleston seems like someone with a massive victim complex and I'd like a bit more to go on. Why hasn't Billie Piper spoken up in support of him? John Barrowman? David Tennant? Anyone else? Why do they all keep coming back every chance they get? That's not what happened with Whedon. Do I think Russel at the very least could apologize to Chris? Yes! Do I think Chris should come back? Fuck no! If any of the past doctors were to come back I would want Capaldi (who has directly said he’s hot coming back) or Smith who’s remained suspiciously quiet. Jodie just left and she endured the brunt of the blame for Chibnall mess up’s so she’s probably not too keen on getting back into the role, Bradley, Peterson, Colin, Mccoy, and Mcghan just participated in POTD, they don’t seem interested in replacing troughton and pertwee ( even if his son is literally a badass actor that looks exactly like him ), and Baker is 89 years old with handicap. Bottom line is people are expecting way too much from the show. With the majority of the actors being too old, tired, or just simply done. We just have to give Ncuti a chance and see what happens. It must be a massive slap in the face for Chris especially after almost 20 years and an ever evolving show and fanbase to go right back to the "old days", and not only that - Bad Wolf was set up by the producers who treated them horribly and they're lauded and took the name of the arc he was in. I bet he's also scared for other actors safety on and off set.

    I respect that Eccleston made his stance clear. I do think he has a bit of a victim complex... because he can say that the Bad Wolf team ruined his time with Doctor Who through 'politics' but what did RTD actually do to deserve this level of hatred?? I thought he hated the institution symbolically but Eccleston legitimately feels RTD was the problem. Why? You cant fire a man for politics and given that nobody else has a bad word to say about RTD is that really a fair stance?? It reminds me of Sean Connery's beef with Broccoli on the James Bond films. That essentially boiled down to being Scottish and not being paid enough, but the feud lasted a lifetime! And if it was just about RTD and bad wolf why didnt Eccelston come back for the 50th? Ultimately it feels like a misjudged grudge. Much Like the Whedon debate, unless someone actually comes forward and states clearly what was done to them, without just stating hearsay, I can't take a definitive position

    • @joevictor53
      @joevictor53 7 месяцев назад +2

      RTD is part of that group. Eccleston talked to Moffat about the 50th and disagreed with how his Doctor was used in it so he didn't come back to it. If they were going to have him be the one that killed everyone and be shunned by the other Doctors, I can see why he would feel that wasn't right for the 9th Doctor. Also I can understand your doubt but the Whedon thing is totally different. There's so many things coming about him from different actors who worked on different things years apart that had no connection to each other. With Whedon, there's no doubt something funny was going on

    I’ve been thinking about this for years, as I loved Eccleston as the Doctor. I’m getting a sense that he was the Doctor at a really hard time, and he took it very personally. I don’t say that with any negative judgment on his part, more so just trying to piece together exactly what happened from a neutral perspective. I think many people would have felt wronged in his position. They were bringing a beloved franchise back, and getting the main character right rested on his shoulders. I think what happened is that he had a showrunner, producers, and executives-who were trying to figure it all out as they went, and probably made a lot of mistakes along the way,-and some fans and press that were not treating him well, making his experience a nightmare. Then, as he said himself, he doesn’t like people editing him, or telling him what to do with the character. As a result, he probably wasn’t the best person to be in that position. While I think he had every right to developed character the way he wanted to a large extent, he ultimately had to work within the confines of the writing and production. He probably had a lot of writers, producers, and executives breathing down his neck, because they were all worried about the success of the show, he ultimately didn’t take kindly to it, and has since held a grudge. I can imagine they drove him crazy, as they would have driven most people crazy, though I do think that his personality and life experiences exasperated that.
    I think someone like David Tennant would’ve just pushed through, and come out the other side just fine. I think whether you like or dislike Davies writing, and I’m not defending him, I think if things were as bad as Eccleston says it was, you wouldn’t have so many people happy to work with Davies. If you listen to Billie Piper in this same exact interview, she states that she has been, and is, willing to come back to the show. Then you have David Tennant and Catherine Tate dying to “get the band back together”, and Stephen Moffat always so warm to Davies, and willing to come back for more Who. Even Neil Patrick Harris stated that he was excited to work with Davies again. Sure they could all be butt kissing to get work, but I think if other people had just as bad experience as Eccleston, we would’ve heard about it by now. I think that Eccleston’s experiences are honest from his perspective, but I think it was ultimately a problem of a lot of people making mistakes, and him not being someone who does well in that situation, and depending on how bad it was, most people probably wouldn’t do well in that situation. I think it’s like one of those situations where you makes mistakes in a relationship, learn from it, and do better next time, however, your ex is always bitter and angry about those mistakes. The “you” being everyone around Eccleston, with Eccleston being the ex.

    let me explain what i mean a bit more, Eccleston chose to leave because of RTD, then RTD hires a young good looking male to replace him, i know i would be annoyed, and in a way it has happened before to me, but my replacement wasnt that good looking

      The Writing is utterly abysmal as it has Shredded the Lore and thrown over 40 TV Series, Thousands of Extended Universe Novels and Comics, and Countless Big Finish Audiodramas straight down the Garbage Chute!, I have read better Fanfiction than the guff we got in what is nothing less than the biggest butchery of a long established Canon, done in pure spite of anyone over 12 years of age, since (ugh, I hate typing this) "Phelps is the Traitor"!

Now *that* was good writing!
      Above all, it does not matter how much you may despise, rightly or wrongly, the views of the fanbase, you do not attack the viewerbase, ever, in the way RTD has, to do so is thoroughly unprofessional conduct, as a professional showrunner, no matter how repugnant he may find the fanbase, keeps their opinions of the fans to himself in order to avoid a 'loss of viewers' ! I have no doubt that the late Robert Holmes probably utterly disliked some of the fanbase even more than he disliked JNT, but as a Professional he kept it to himself! RTD's utter inability to do so has proven him *unfit* to be a showrunner, as his behaviour is Unprofessional, and utterly Toxic and that is causing a loss of viewership, as like it or not it is a fact that the viewing numbers have Nosedived, that could kill the show stone dead!
      The House of Mouse is in this for one thing, Money, and the second Doctor Who becomes unprofitable they are going to drop it like a bad conversation! And if RTD savages the fans again and causes another nosedive in the viewing rate, it is going to be unprofitable, and just you watch Hollywood cut its losses, axe the series, and run, leaving the show stone dead in the Process, the second that Happens!

    1:25:00 Well done you! I think that I’ve found half of those kilos you’ve lost.

    This production team he wants fired haven't been around for the last 13 years and he's turned down hundreds of Who offers in that time.
    I'm sure Eccleston is a cool guy, but he's for sure just stirring up trouble here...

      I kinda now what you mean, he feels hurt and deserves an apology, but during the Moffat, chibnal eras the people did not like were not apart of the show so could have come back? Like the 50th but then said he wouldn’t do a multi doctor but how else would be be able to come back then? Not sure. I love Chris as 9 and new who wouldn’t be the same without him, he is really important to the show, however all the demands are a little reaching.

      You don't understand, it's not just about Doctor Who. Yes they left the show back then, but if you look at their history, it was mostly for higher ranked job, but still for the BBC.
      Imagine being sacked and blacklisted for years with your career ruined in your home country, because you stood up for the "less important" staff, while those you denounced eventually got promoted.
      And to make things worse, now some of those people are leading Bad Wolf Productions, the company in charge of the current production.
      It's over, we have to accept that Chris won't ever come back, because they certainly won't sack themselves, unless Sony does.

      @Chapmike I get it man, he probably has very valid grievances with the RTD production team, but to claim that they are the reason he's never appeared when they've been completely out of the picture for over a decade, then start stirring the pot again when they've barely gotten their feet back in the door is just causing trouble because you can.

      @@NotAHero98 Clearly you don't get it, since you still can't see the big picture. Despite all I said you still bring it to just Doctor Who. It's not just about getting them out of the show, but them finally getting what they deserve. Until now they got nothing but rewards for bad behavior, and that's totally on the BBC. Sure the company's leadership may have changed since, but what did those successors do to atone for this? Absolutely nothing, except giving them even more power.

      @@NotAHero98 He's not stirring up trouble. He's not asking for them to be sacked right now, he's just saying his terms for coming back. It's not like this is a completely random statement. He's been asked this question for almost 2 decades. He's not claiming they've been the reason the WHOLE time (although it was for the first few years), he's saying they're the reason NOW.
      "They've barely gotten their feet back in the door" That is a blatant lie. RTD has been the showrunner for almost 2 years now. The 60th specials were filmed in Summer 2022. Series 14 is wrapped up. They're working on Series 15 as we speak. He's not "just barely back". And when Russell is placing himself on Unleashed and asking his employees for a dialogue about his work, it's absolutely fair game to criticise him.

    Chris is notoriously hard to work with ! Be it OUR FRIENDS IN THE NORTH TO HEROS TO DR WHO . So it's only one side to the story of his departure from who .

    Chris's mh issues are on fire in this video and it seems wrong to be gawking at it. With that said you have to ask why he's the only one to complain about them. Seems to me he's a perfectionist and demanding and was totally unsympathetic to the fact series 1 was tough learning curve for everyone...who were doing the biggest thing in their working lives..bit like a Diva who thinks they are surrounded by amateurs.
