      Hey MrTARDISreviews, are you going to do a review of the Mission To The Unknown recreation by the University of Lancashire, I loved that vid, and also, Do you believe that there could be a SECOND DALEK CIVIL WAR (when the Classic Series Daleks are actually good Daleks, but the New Series Daleks are wanting the Classic Series Daleks to be hateful and be a regular dalek, like good vs bad, and the 1965/66 Movie Daleks side with the "Good Daleks", in series 12 or even series 13 in the future?

    Damn. I was 30 when this aired.. and yet the child inside me was loving every minute of it. It's a fantastic story and a great send off for the 9th Doctor. I remember being disappointed that this meant we were only going to get one season of him... Supporting cast were great. Capt Jack was such a cool character and I'm glad he returned multiple times... The Daleks though were the standout for me. Just so menacing... so evil. Everything that Daleks should be. The new series Daleks for me are the perfect Dalek design. everything about them just works... It's like they looked at the Daleks over the history of the show and cherry picked all the best bits and came up with the ultimate design... Love, love, love it...

    • @DalekTheSupreme
      @DalekTheSupreme 4 года назад +3

      Agreed. I love the silver/blue original designs and their eerie, otherworldly designs, I enjoy the gunmetal grey Daleks of the 70's and 80's with their freaky pupil-eyes, and I even love the Progenitor Daleks of Series 5 with their added height and bulk and slightly organic look (particularly in the eyestalks), but I feel the bronze Daleks are the most timeless. They retain the basic Dalek shape and design elements, but the level of detail with all the rivets and screws really sells the idea that these are impenetrable, unstoppable tanks built for war.

  • @NitroIndigo

    Sometimes I like to imagine what it must've been like to be a kid in 2005, watching series 1 as it aired, and having no knowledge of what came before because the internet wasn't as omnipresent. You're slowly introduced to this character and the lore of this universe, through the eyes of an ordinary girl... and then he dies. Don't worry, he gets better. _Will this happen at the end of every series?_ I might have wondered in an alternate timeline.
    (I can't remember what the first episode of Doctor Who I watched was, but it almost certainly starred Ten. I was still watching Cbeebies in 2005.)

    • @DalekTheSupreme
      @DalekTheSupreme 4 года назад +1

      I was watching my dad's old Classic Series VHS tapes and DVDs before Doctor Who came back. When it did, I was excited, especially when the Dalek appeared in the next-time trailer. I did manage to miss The Parting of the Ways except for the regeneration, which was disappointing because when I was little, the Ninth Doctor was my favorite.

    • @meropetied
      @meropetied 4 года назад +2

      Agreed. Those two others don't have the same kind of massive deus ex machina this one (and all the RTD finales except possibly End of Time) had. What those two Moffat finales do both have is a companion remembering the Doctor when all is basically lost for the Doctor and saving him. Which isn't too far different though. But in two out of three cases (high stakes indeed) the Doctor himself will be lost, while in the third a whole universe is reset.

    • @defrostedrobot77
      @defrostedrobot77 4 года назад +3

      @@meropetied I guess you could argue that Puddle Girl showing up is a bit deus ex machina but it was at least set up a bit earlier in the season and was probably gonna need a payoff of some kind.

    • @meropetied
      @meropetied 4 года назад +1

      @@defrostedrobot77 I mean... Heather's return is just as much magical fairytale material as the Bad Wolf is, but way less consistently foreshadowed. But yeah, it was planted nicely right there, in that tear, all we needed, at the end of The Pilot. But it's just marvelous too. Still it's definitely my favorite season finale in Who since maybe Logopolis or Greatest Show in the Galaxy. But The Parting of the Ways set the standard for how to do Who post-Buffy. It's an amazingly good finale. The whole season is made better by it.

    Such a good story and final story for Eccleston to go out on. My only personal gripe for me was I would've loved to see Simon Pegg as the Editor return. Whilst I prefer The Pandorica/Bang slightly this is still my second favourite finale of the revival. Doctor Falls owes a lot to this one.

    • @DalekTheSupreme

      Massively agreed. The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang is my personal favorite Doctor Who story of all time, but Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways is on my top ten list. Well, either it or Dalek.

      @@DalekTheSupreme Both are very very different takes on a finale but both are spectacular. If we had a pint to talk over and not a comments column I would argue that there are indeed other quite coherent character arcs for Doctors (Hurt, Capaldi, a long convo about Tennant probably, and also indeed both Hartnell and Davison) in TV Who. But certainly being just one really good season Eccleston rated one of the clearest and best.
    Great work on all these Dalekcember videos. I just recently rewatched this story and season. Hoo yes, the second half-- After Dalek -- really stands up incredibly still.

    I remember classic who as a kid, from around Warriors of the Deep onwards to Survival. I remember thinking the show will never come back. And then it did. And it didn't disappoint. Season 1 had the two best Dalek stories ever, my favourite Dr Who story ever (The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances) and my favourite Doctor in the 'fantastic' Chris Eccleston. I look back on that era with so much love. For me, those two Dalek stories and The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances have Midnight and Blink as company in my top five stories. Little else comes close.

I very much like how 11 and 13's episodes show us that regular, normal life can be just as adventurous and full of wonder as all of space and time.

    I actually didn't see this episode when it first came out. I think I recall seeing Bad Wolf and being hyped for the Daleks returning in full force, but when it came time for this episode, I woke up later at night just in time to catch only the Doctor's regeneration. I was eight at the time, so I took him at his word when he said "I sang a song and the Daleks ran away!"
    In any case, I feel like Dalek and The Parting of the Ways are equally brilliant in their use of the Daleks, just in different ways. Dalek manages to humanize one while still making sure the audience knows it is evil and it must be stopped because it _will_ kill everyone on the planet, and The Parting of the Ways sees them as a frighteningly dangerous army that devastates earth and annihilates the entire supporting cast of the episode that preceded it with a brilliantly written leader. They update the fascist parallels of the Daleks, with Dalek pointing out that people who enable Nazis are just as bad and just as responsible for all the harm they do as actual Nazis, and The Parting of the Ways demonstrating the cult-like devotion to a corrupted religous philosophy that alt-right causes possess, with both cleverly portraying the inherent self-loathing that results from fascist ideologies. It's a tough call which one is better, sometimes I feel it's Dalek, sometimes I lean more towards The Parting of the Ways, but I consider both the best of Dalek stories in the New Series.

    10:28 I’ve always found these scene to be a bit overblown in the episode, but the parting of the ways is a fantastic episode. I watched series 1 again recently and it was easily my 2nd favourite (after dalek). Something about the the time vortex scene with rose is just so powerful and well directed but I can’t put my finger on it

    I would say that Ecclestons doctor choosing coward instead of killer, is way better than that idiot with a box crap. It respects him and his abilities as a character. I feel like after series 4 we started to lose a lot of the heart the show had. I hope we get it back. Cause while world enough time was touching it is then ruined by the Christmas special after.

    Where does the line "I hope the earth shits on you" come from? That's definitely Eccleston's voice isn't it? 🤔🤔
