It annoyed me that some people were calling it dead immediately and the whole time i was just thinking...This era just started. At least give it like 5 episodes before calling the show over. That's like calling an American football game over cause the other team got a single touchdown in the first 5 minutes.
This is why I stopped listening to other people's opinion's about shows/movies, People screaming everything is a failure months before it comes out. I agree some projects are not doing as well as they Should. Doctor Who is not one of them.
It is a really weird trend of saying official figures are rubbish. BARB numbers are so widely respected as the best we have in the industry (by all the broadcasters) it seems really weird that some think that there is some fuding on behalf of a single programme. It just doesn't stand up. Doctor Who did well on the overnights, and it did well on the 7 day figures. We have years of data showing that Doctor Who is the kind of program that does well on the +7 day figures. That the numbers are very good and that DW is the kind of programme that pulls a younger audience than average for a drama means that the production office (and the Beeb higher-ups) must be well satisfied.
It's how alt-right minds are programmed to work. When they come across facts that they don't like, they simply deny that the facts or reality exist and create ludicrous conspiracy theories to explain why they didn't happen. it's an essential part of the radicalization process.
I see the viewing figures argument all over Facebook too - no substantive arguments about why the writing or performances are worse, just tryjng to justify the vitrol because number too small Excellent vid Mr Tardis
Even if we assume that 30 seconds counts as a view, to say that everyone only watched the show for 30 seconds and turned it off shows absolutely no nuance in their judgement and just shows they're biased, because if they hated the special that means everyone hates the special.
They just hate the show that much that they will literally spew any excuse to try and make other people hate it too. I don't get why people like him won't just stop watching and go watch something else instead lol.
In Melon Rattler’s response after he explains it is 40% of the episode, he’s like “What so people are turning off when they are less than half way through?” No you moron, it's AT LEAST 40%, most will have finished it.
Disney+, Netflix, and others, through 3rd party estimations (based on viewing minutes), don't rely on an overnight viewership. They rely on typically a 7-day viewership number, from what I've read. I agree with your assessment on this, Mr. TARDIS.
Wow, this is a whole new level of desperate for them. Just making up lies that the figures are fake just because they don't want it to be true. How can they still take themselves seriously?

getting a bit sick of the moaning . around the shows veiwing figures the show is fine really want if people don't like the show they would stop watching it
Love your shows and commentaries. What makes me the most frustrated is when Dr who goes against its principles “you can’t change history, not one line” and Issac newton was cast against that, abstraction or not, per your Shakespeare comments, you have to stop using “it’s doctor who” as making it ok BECAUSE these conservatives are using that exact argument and it lessens the impact of your well thought out arguments I don’t mind it,in general but if the show runners go against that part of canon then it opens up to attacks from others saying it’s targeted rule bending. Keep up the good work! You make us think, so you know those types of sites won’t listen past 12 seconds- thinking isn’t something they do😁
I never got this obsession with viewing figures, it does not equal quality, you can have poorly made programme with loads of viewing figures and a masterpiece with very few. I am sure there are episodes of classic who that I like, that have lower ratings than episodes of new who I don’t like, should I care? No. As for what you discussed towards the end, I will say this, people complaining about how woke media is, etc is ANNOYING, the word “woke” means nothing at this point. I am technically on the right, but this whole culture war thing is ridiculous, you can go back to media from 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 years ago and find SAME types of messages these people complain about, while often glorifying the old stuff. Message is only part of enjoyment of media, personally I care more about HOW you present your message, instead of WHAT it is and quite frankly, some of my favourite films, books or musicians fall more often on the left of the political spectrum, never had issue with that. I kinda want to quote one Taylor Swift song here, when I see people complain how woke everything is - “You Need To Calm Down,”
Didn’t Clownfish TV attack someone who he claims is faking being disabled along with attacking an indie animation creator over some drama that started because of their haters?
Why is this guy still partaking in the show if he hates it so much? I know that's the "don't like don't watch" argument but I mean just...he seems to have no joy in it anymore. It's not about the show anymore, just his clearly being sucked into the alt-right, bigot sphere. It's sad. He needs help.

Honestly, I can't believe i used to watch Clownfish... course, it doesn't help that i tend to put my trust in others way too easily due to living in a metaphorical bubble a lot of my life, but misinformation and sometimes lack of information is genuinely scary...
I can remember when I got into the doctor in season 5 finding it on BBC America on demand and liking Amy’s choice the first episode I saw then actually watching season 6 it’s the rest of the fans that the viewing figures weren’t a point of contention in the fandom it wasn’t until Jodie was casted that we saw a section of the fandom loose there mind to her casting to the point where it wasn’t acceptable to be indifferent to her casting and wanted to wait and judge her from actual footage of the show cause be became a situation where had to instantly love her as the doctor or instantly hate her as the doctor even though we hadn’t had even a season trailer at that point overall I like the era even though I still have issues with it and it was like they were desperate for people to hate the era cause she was casted even though it was always Sydney Newman’s plan to have men and women be the doctor when regeneration was invented so since her era the viewing figures have been their hill to die on cause they have nothing else at this point since despite them her era was still technically successful in the streaming landscape
The alt-right bigoted hatred started when they announced the casting of Pearl Mackie and that the companion she played would be lesbian. That was just after the Fandom Menace extremists had really started moving through fandom, starting with #GamerGate and moving on to Star Wars, then Star Trek, then Doctor Who.
Well, said. The actually youtubers won't be swayed by reasoned arguments, but you will reach some of their viewers. The problem is that they have all learnt the only way to further their cause is to just tell barefaced lies now (I think they leant it from Trump.)

The funny thing about the reaction to Ncuti Gatwa is the fact that most people have shown that they're not that scared of black people in media. We saw this with black panther and captain marvel. Most people aren't that bothered by diversity when the media they're in is good lol
I know very little about how viewing figures work or how they're calculated and even I can see through the grifts with very little effort. Like how the melon guy goes on about how overnight figures are more important. First of all, it was a Christmas Day broadcast. Even if streaming wasn't as prevalent as it is, if ever there's a time to include repeats or on demand figures, its for shows that went out on a day when many, many people across the country are going to be busy. Then there's the point about "some people might have tuned out after 30 seconds", which he also for some reason relates to why overnight figures are more important. Don't really get that, people can still tune out of a first broadcast. But moreover, if that's going to be their attitude, why bother talking about viewing figures at all? If they're not going to bother looking up how the BARB expect 40% of a show to be watched before they count it, you could take that to the extreme and say _no one_ watched it at all. You might think that no one would believe them if they took it that far, but I've actually seen grifters get away with that exact lie: A lot of right-wing grifters have been going on about Star Trek: Discovery since it started releasing in 2017 and how its "too woke", etc. all the usual stuff; but a point that's been repeatedly brought up by them is a lack of viewing figures. I don't know whether the rules are different for streaming-exclusive shows, or if the rules are different for American shows, but I've heard CBS are under no obligation to release the viewing figures. Okay. So the right-wing grifters have decided the reason Paramount/CBS won't release the viewing figures is because there literally aren't any. They've decided that _literally no one_ is watching Star Trek: Discovery and that they kept renewing it for a total of 5 _very expensive_ high-budget seasons to save face and not admit that it was getting literally zero views. _And people were buying into that lie!_ And then of course, when we learned that the fifth season would be the end, the grifters started claiming that the show was a failure, despite the fact that five seasons of a high-budget sci-fi streaming show is good these days. A lot of Star Trek fans are used to how things were in the 1990s and still expect seven seasons to be what qualifies as "successful". And that's before we get to the countless, _countless_ times grifters have claimed the executive producer has been "fired by CBS". For the record, the executive producer is still heading up the Star Trek franchise to this day. I honestly don't understand the whole grifting thing. Be it for Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC etc. There's plenty of people such as MrTARDIS who can actually critique something; acknowledge when there's shortcomings like pacing or if an attempt at representation comes across as misguided or what have you. But these grifter people would rather spend absurd amounts of time and effort crafting the most paper-thin rumors about viewing figures, cancellations or firings that anyone with an IQ in positive numbers can see right through. I cannot imagine being so hateful that I'd rather seethe about diversity in shows rather than just analysing them as actual pieces of media.
Yes-ish, genuinely, companies, when figuring out the heath of a brand, will look at figures and sales from the home country, aka the primary market, and then its secondary market, then thershiary market. So for Doctor Who it would probably be UK than North America than EU.
I was so confused by the coming up because with the title I thought Mr Tardis was going to talk about how RTD changed how Bi-Regeneration works 3 times now 💀
I don’t get the people who are mad that people clearly have interest in the show after the initial release like are we gonna argue that all movies are failures because they don’t make all their money on release day
Don’t compare doctor who to game of thrones season 8. Game thrones in its entirety is better than doctor who. But game of thrones season eight is worse than the entirety of the thirteen doctor era. So don’t dare say the doctor who ratings are fake when game of thrones gets an Emmy for season 8
I'm honestly getting tired of these typical Doctor Who trivial ramblings, so I'm going to include my own two cents: The ratings for the 60th anniversary were low, but the ratings for the Christmas Special were slightly above average in fact. I think the anniversary has made some really odd bets at times but the Christmas special did an okay job (the issues were slim pickings imo).
1) Politically in the UK, they are the dominant power-group so it's important to know what they think (even if it's to combat them) 2) They literally want these marginalized groups dead so...maybe it's best to inform people so we can stop that. This has real-world consequences as well, like I mentioned in this video like political assassination attempts + Ncuti Gatwa needing to hire 24/7 security for him and his family.
It's not an obsession lol. It's the fact that so many of these right wingers are making false claims about the show that just aren't true at all and too many people are eating it up as if it is. The whole point of videos like this is to prove these people wrong and show a different viewpoint of things. If someone spread misinformation about you, wouldn't you want to prove them wrong?
I think both of yall are annoying lmao. The show is doing better than it was under Chibnalls run but at the end of the day, it still isn't back to how it was during RTDs original run. Its that simple. You both can keep going at each other's throats. Yall both gaining views from it
We talk about racism and homophobia which is fine as we should call it out for what it is as you do here however I urge you to call out the ageism from the Bad Wolf team. Why is it RTD won’t cast anyone over 45 in the role of the Doctor? Why does the Doctor need to be attractive today? If the modern Doctor Who production team are serious about inclusivity then don’t exclude older actors or those some would consider not good looking. The writing in modern Who I do find is also a problem turning the show into a goofy fantasy rather than the mix of science fiction & fantasy that Classic Who had.
@@MrTARDIS True however he’s not playing the Doctor permanently and isn’t starting out. He was brought back for the Anniversary specials. When he was cast he was younger. Why is it that RTD never casts anyone over 45 in the role? Peter Capaldi is the only actor cast over 45 and cast by Steven Moffat.
@@PaulRichards-vz4pl Why have you picked this arbitrary number of 45? What about all the Doctors before RTD who were below that age. Tom Baker - 40 Peter Davison - 29 Sylvester McCoy - 43 What about Jodie Whittaker - 35? She wasn't cast by RTD. Or Matt Smith, at the time the youngest actor to be cast as the Doctor. Also, is Bernard Cribbins suddenly no longer a consideration? He was a lot older than 45 when he was cast under RTD's tenure. Just seems like you're taking a random dig at RTD for some reason.
@@lloroshastar6347 I didn’t pick it they did. Julie Gardner and RTD said it’s best we have someone under 45. They certainly wouldn’t choose anyone of Peter Capaldi’s age. Julie Gardner said some pretty mean things about Sylvester McCoy implying the Doctor is better when played by an attractive younger actor because it’s all about sex appeal! Can you imagine the likes of William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton being cast today? Not as long as these body fascists are in charge.
@@PaulRichards-vz4pl I don't know what their motivations would be. RTD is hardly a perfect person, as confirmed by Eccleston's time working with them. Moffat was pretty guilty on that front too though with his sexist portrayals of women. I don't know if they are ageist as you say because the evidence is not clear, just wanting to cast a younger actor in the case of Ncuti Gatwa I don't think is ageist in of itself. But then what you've pointed out here is something that the entire media industry is guilty of, and is far from unique to RTD.
It's wild to me anyrhing below 15m domestic is considered good. The population to viewership ratio is so bad at 7 millions. Literally almost no one is watching this show.
This is a mad take. Genuinely un-tethered from reality. 'Mr Bates vs the Post Office' has been the top-item of the news agenda for the entirety of 2024 so far. Everyone has watched it, everyone knows about it and it's actually causing political change. 10M 7-day figures. But you think "anything below 15m domestic is considered good". Impossible to take you seriously. This is so stupid on the face of it.
@@MrTARDIS when you look at the population there and the surrounding areas and compare to shows pulling in 30+ m domestic anywhere... I dont see how this is a mad take. Come on man. "The entirety of 2024 so far" is 18 days. 18 total days. What you did there was media-speak. Do you take yourself seriously when you take 18 days and dramatize it like that? The UK is 67 million people. 10M is not everyone. Everyone has not seen it. Everyone is not talking about it. Thats just media framing. It's been done forever. People say that nonsense about anyrhing to hype it up, despite its lack of viewership. I love your videos that actually focus on Doctor Who. I think they're fantastic. But the political side of Mr. Tardis leaves a stain on a channel that had the potential to be one of the biggest pop culture channels on youtube. It's your channel of course, but it doesn't matter what the topic of entertainment is, or what side of the culture war you are on, the two take away from each other. Every single time.
While I appreciate there is a lot of hate from the more homophobic and racist idiots out there, I can't help feeling this is nothing but spin. Sorry but if Dr who was the biggest pull for a drama on Xmas day, and that got less than 5 million, then I think they have lost the right to ask for the licence fee. Also it's obvious we are watching a repeat of what happened with Whittaker,,, Huge audience to start with,,, that will no doubt sink like a stone. Soz

That's like calling an American football game over cause the other team got a single touchdown in the first 5 minutes.
Agreed if we consider a show dead after one possibly iffy episode several would have never made it as far as they did (looking at you TNG).
@@neptune04the American version of The Office comes to mind too
This is why I stopped listening to other people's opinion's about shows/movies, People screaming everything is a failure months before it comes out.
I see the viewing figures argument all over Facebook too - no substantive arguments about why the writing or performances are worse, just tryjng to justify the vitrol because number too small
Excellent vid Mr Tardis
Even if we assume that 30 seconds counts as a view, to say that everyone only watched the show for 30 seconds and turned it off shows absolutely no nuance in their judgement and just shows they're biased, because if they hated the special that means everyone hates the special.
And they are a bunch of hypocrites
They just hate the show that much that they will literally spew any excuse to try and make other people hate it too. I don't get why people like him won't just stop watching and go watch something else instead lol.
In Melon Rattler’s response after he explains it is 40% of the episode, he’s like “What so people are turning off when they are less than half way through?” No you moron, it's AT LEAST 40%, most will have finished it.
Mellon Rattler no doubt: 'Lov Brexit, lov GB News, lov Nigel Farage, hate woke, hate elite math, simple as!'
Turns out this Melon dude is among the crowd calling David Tennant a groomer-
It's not surprising that he's a bigot.
Disney+, Netflix, and others, through 3rd party estimations (based on viewing minutes), don't rely on an overnight viewership. They rely on typically a 7-day viewership number, from what I've read. I agree with your assessment on this, Mr. TARDIS.
Here we go again.
Wow, this is a whole new level of desperate for them. Just making up lies that the figures are fake just because they don't want it to be true. How can they still take themselves seriously?
Remind you of another group of people that have been thinking that way?

Funny timing; a few hours after this video went live TheProblemBeing (the Twitter account ClownFishTV featured in his video) had his account suspended. I doubt it was anything to do with me, but the timing is pretty funny. If I'd have sat on this topic for just a few more days, all of his tweets would have disappeared.
To be honest I'm shocked anyone outside of the far-right still use Twitter. Best decision I ever made was to get rid of my account from that hell site.
If the BBC and BARB were going conspire over the viewing figures, wouldn’t they make them even bigger? Just say Doctor Who got 12 million.
getting a bit sick of the moaning . around the shows veiwing figures the show is fine really want if people don't like the show they would stop watching it
I think ‘call your dad, your in a cult’ is my

Love your shows and commentaries.
What makes me the most frustrated is when Dr who goes against its principles “you can’t change history, not one line” and Issac newton was cast against that, abstraction or not, per your Shakespeare comments, you have to stop using “it’s doctor who” as making it ok BECAUSE these conservatives are using that exact argument and it lessens the impact of your well thought out arguments
I don’t mind it,in general but if the show runners go against that part of canon then it opens up to attacks from others saying it’s targeted rule bending.
I try and stay away from the people who are saying that dw is woke I just want to see my favourite time travelling alien in he’s blue box as he saves the universe.
Oh and also it looks like the numbers between The Giggle and Ruby Road went up

It’s funny how they say data they don’t like and just say that it doesn’t count
This watermelon guy is actually hilarious, ill give him that.
0:49 that’s accurate because David Collin tricked me when I was a teenager.
Well, said. The actually youtubers won't be swayed by reasoned arguments, but you will reach some of their viewers. The problem is that they have all learnt the only way to further their cause is to just tell barefaced lies now (I think they leant it from Trump.)

Would love to see MrTardis get some of them on his livestream for a chat.
Mr TARDIS is our hero, cutting through the nonsense in such a clear and open way. Bravo!
The funny thing about the reaction to Ncuti Gatwa is the fact that most people have shown that they're not that scared of black people in media. We saw this with black panther and captain marvel. Most people aren't that bothered by diversity when the media they're in is good lol
Stupid what?
You might think that no one would believe them if they took it that far, but I've actually seen grifters get away with that exact lie:
A lot of right-wing grifters have been going on about Star Trek: Discovery since it started releasing in 2017 and how its "too woke", etc. all the usual stuff; but a point that's been repeatedly brought up by them is a lack of viewing figures.
I just hope the authorities have their addresses
Barb is the uk equivalent of nielson in the states
Do viewing figures matter anymore if Disney is giving them £10 million budget per episode?
Yes-ish, genuinely, companies, when figuring out the heath of a brand, will look at figures and sales from the home country, aka the primary market, and then its secondary market, then thershiary market.
So for Doctor Who it would probably be UK than North America than EU.
22:02 For gacha players, 4% is a very considerable number

Don’t compare doctor who to game of thrones season 8. Game thrones in its entirety is better than doctor who. But game of thrones season eight is worse than the entirety of the thirteen doctor era. So don’t dare say the doctor who ratings are fake when game of thrones gets an Emmy for season 8
I'm honestly getting tired of these typical Doctor Who trivial ramblings, so I'm going to include my own two cents:
The ratings for the 60th anniversary were low, but the ratings for the Christmas Special were slightly above average in fact.
I think the anniversary has made some really odd bets at times but the Christmas special did an okay job (the issues were slim pickings imo).
I am seriously trying to remain calm. Dr. Disaster - ncuti is leaving, anyone seen this genius? Oh my god!
what?
And the obsession with what the right wingers think of the show continues🙄….Don’t know why people seem to care so much.
dont you find losers being angry about "woke" stuff funny
They don't. The hate comes first, whatever show it is directed at comes second
1) Politically in the UK, they are the dominant power-group so it's important to know what they think (even if it's to combat them)
2) They literally want these marginalized groups dead so...maybe it's best to inform people so we can stop that.
This has real-world consequences as well, like I mentioned in this video like political assassination attempts + Ncuti Gatwa needing to hire 24/7 security for him and his family.
It's more about debunking misinformation being spread by bad actors
It's not an obsession lol. It's the fact that so many of these right wingers are making false claims about the show that just aren't true at all and too many people are eating it up as if it is. The whole point of videos like this is to prove these people wrong and show a different viewpoint of things. If someone spread misinformation about you, wouldn't you want to prove them wrong?
I think both of yall are annoying lmao. The show is doing better than it was under Chibnalls run but at the end of the day, it still isn't back to how it was during RTDs original run. Its that simple. You both can keep going at each other's throats. Yall both gaining views from it
Do u understand why?
We talk about racism and homophobia which is fine as we should call it out for what it is as you do here however I urge you to call out the ageism from the Bad Wolf team. Why is it RTD won’t cast anyone over 45 in the role of the Doctor? Why does the Doctor need to be attractive today? If the modern Doctor Who production team are serious about inclusivity then don’t exclude older actors or those some would consider not good looking. The writing in modern Who I do find is also a problem turning the show into a goofy fantasy rather than the mix of science fiction & fantasy that Classic Who had.
David Tennant was 50 when he returned...
Tom Baker - 40
Peter Davison - 29
Sylvester McCoy - 43
What about Jodie Whittaker - 35?
Because of Disney. Everyone a little lying creep!
Also it's obvious we are watching a repeat of what happened with Whittaker,,,
