I love the fact that Bowlestrek's criticising drag shows for children when Britain has a history of exactly that. It's called pantomine and kids in Britain have loved it for years and years. Pantomine Dames are about a crude as they come and there's a long history of kids loving them.

my step dad stopped watching through the Moffatt era no real reason he just didn't have the time but he came back to the show through Chibnall and was really excited for Jodi and is even more excited for RTD 2 and Ncuti.
My mom started watching because of Jodie. Now she's made it through most of Capaldi's run after starting over from the start of New Who. Jodie being the doctor convinced her it wasn't just a boys' show and made her become a fan of it

There’s a quote from the Tom Baker episode ‘The Robots of Death’ “you’re a classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain.” I think that quote applies to Bowlstrek pretty well.
the wierd thing about these types of videos, is when they're not talking about "woke politics" you see the bones of valid criticism begin to form. the direction of the chibnall era is flawed imo, the music is a downgrade from what came before, and the writing is easily criticisable. however, they always find a way to circle it back to "actually this is because woke media" before they can ever elaborate on these points in a substantial fashion.
What these dullards cant figure out is that it's Chibbs being incompetent and Murray Gold being so incredible that nobody could really match him as a follow up that is to blame for the writing and the music. It's unfortunate that I have to say that it's refreshing to have a Doctor Who fan who makes videos online who *isn't* a piece of crap. Half the time, RUclips gets confused and says "Hey, you watched an HBomberguy video, that's political, wanna watch Ben Shapiro, or Sargon of Akkad?", and it does the same with a lot of media content. I study media, and hope to work in the industry, and let me tell you I've never been in a woker room than a group of people who want to work in media, so it annoys me to no end that many people who talk about it are horrible bigots. So thank you for calling out this crap, because we need more media-focused RUclipsrs who actually understand the messages.
"Young Brains are malleable." Okay, so why am I not trans? As a small child I went to Pantomimes, saw men in dresses. As an older child, I watched Little Britain. David Walliams and eventually Matt Lucas were on screen every week, in drag. Where was this argument back then? Where was the outrage? Where was the concern for brain washed kids? It's almost like this is only a concern, now that trans people/ drag queens and gay people are on screen but aren't a joke anymore. It's the last part that's clearly the problem. Because, before that it was fine and dandy to have a man in a dress on screen, a gay guy or a trans person, so long as they were there to laugh at.

14:07 With Star Wars, that's actually ridiculous because at one point, Luke actually WAS changed into a female character during the writing process of the original Star Wars film in the 70s. Heck, there's even concept art by Ralph McQuarrie showing that potential female character. Similar to the idea of having a female Doctor in Classic Who. These ideas aren't new, even if it took a while to actually make them reality (with the first female Doctor and Star Wars actually having a female protagonist with Rey)
Are you sure that's correct? I thought Luke wasn't orignally the prodaganist of the original script and was instead the Obi-Wan figure. I don't think he was ever female in any of the drafts

Depends if you count him as a full-time companion, but either way he was still a character introduced by RTD so he still created the first non-white companion.

@@Tolstoy111 that's factually incorrect. drag is not inherently sexual. the concept of drag is an exeggerated gender bending art form. nothing about that says sexual. yes, some drag shows are sexual in their nature but that's not a requirement for drag nor is it even the norm. all drag varies massively eg imitation of celebrities, dance, lip syncs, acting and so much more. cabaret is only one part of drag culture. it's like saying all films are sexual.. no, some are, some aren't, depending on who the target audience is.

With regards to his point about drag artistes and children, clearly he's never been to a pantomime. Back in the 70s and 80s, people like Danny La Rue and Hinge & Bracket were ubiquitous on family television. From what I can remember, very few people had an issue with drag acts at that time. In fact, my 94 year old great-aunt was a fan of Paul O'Grady as Lily Savage. I think drag, or whatever you want to call it, isn't the controversial topic some people seem to think it is; in the UK, at least.
UK drag and US drag are two very different things. The former as you say had panto influences and was smutty, but not outright sexualised. The US thing is somewhat different, highly sexualised, and given some of the behaviour of certain drag acts in the US when it comes to appropriate behaviour in front of children, I'm not surprised people aren't fans. Do feel a bit bad for Aida H Dee here in the UK who seems to be paying the price for that.
@@Sir_Gerald_Nosehairs. That's part of my point, really. With Doctor Who being a British show, the drag aspect of it is considerably less of an issue in the minds of the population at large. Obviously, that's conjecture on my part, but as I say pantos, Python, Les Dawson, Dame Edna Everage et al have long been a part of British culture. Certainly, not everybody likes it, but those that don't tend to keep their opinions to themselves; those not on the internet, at any rate. I think there's a significant difference between a drag artiste and a drag queen. The latter do tend to be more adult in tone, refusing to use a double entendre when a single one will do. The former, on the other hand, tend to be more family friendly. Not always, but more or less, I would say. I think the US/North America tends to be more prudish anyway. I certainly think they'd throw a hissy fit at the fact McCain Oven Chips are being advertised by a drag artiste named, appropriately enough, Baga Chipz.

Sci-fi fan magazines - well, not really even magazines, just copied off (Xeroxed odd, in those days) sheets of paper stapled together and mailed back and forth between those of us in these clubs. I guess there's none of those left in existence, and many don't even remember seeing anything like that, so it's a lost part of the history. But since I didn't have a VCR for most of those years that the tapes were being traded around, I never saw any of those, either. And since I could only spend what I earned in things like gathering and turning in glass pop bottles for the deposit money or collecting cans to sell those to the recyclers, I seldom got to read any of the official magazines, much less buy them. I also never got any of the books, so only got to read what was occasionally at the school or public library. But I can guarantee that every single time there was a petition to bring Who back to the screen - ANY screen - I signed it and passed it around to the few nerds I was friends with who even knew about Who before I sent it back to whoever was collecting them. And I'd regularly write a letter, when I could between classes and chores, and send it aaaaall the way to the BBC (I'm across the pond and smack in the middle of flyover country), begging for more of the Doctor. _~sigh~_ After aaaaall of that, after the further difficulty of being a _~gasp~_ _GIRL_ Whovian in the middle of Nowhere, USA, this asshat wants to put ME (and MY friends in those days) in the same boat as HIS piece of toxic slime ass?? Bowelstrek doesn't know what shark jumping is. Shark jumping means a point at which a show flanderizes itself, usually as a result of either forgetting what makes a show special, or running out of ideas. this is something dr who can recover from, it's onme of the few shows consistently able to do so.

You've got to remember that it was people like Bowlestrek (and quite possibly Bowlestrek himself, but I've no compunction to go searching through his sewer of a RUclips channel) who predicted that the casting of Nicole Maine's as Dreamer would kill off Supergirl in a matter of weeks, whereas in reality Dreamer proved to be one of the most popular of the newer characters. The best thing you can do is not give Bowlestrek the oxygen of publicity - or better still don't give him any oxygen at all!

I think there was one place in the USA that has sadly made it very hard for Drag Queens and he is using that as his reference for them being illegal or wrong and as fuel for his bigotry.

Oh wow. Just realised that I used to watch Bowlestrek's Doctor Who DVD collection videos back when I first started getting into collecting myself... How times have changed. Or maybe they haven't and he was always like this. I was pretty young back then and only really interested in being awed at people's massive Doctor Who collections. Pretty sure he wasn't this... _loud_ at the very least... Its interesting. I've gone back and looked at the thumbnails of his videos and noticed that he has seemingly hated Doctor Who for the past 6 years at the very least, yet he hasn't stopped watching the show... I guess he's just a sad little man who enjoys being angry... 🙄
He sounds so much angrier this time...and older. Not sure whether to smirk at his misfortune or be very very scared. Also, Bowlstrek, like...the effects in the Chibnal era were like some of the best the series ever had (if we ignore the Pa Ting or the Kerblaam warehouse. Budget can't account for all things), but like...I could put my DVD on of any Chibnal story bar those two and prove him wrong within seconds. As Will here says. The Opening moments of the Ghost Monument are amazing visually. I'd just like to add as a bit of balance, I got mad at Doctor Who once, but you know what i did? instead of trying to rant about it, I used that passion to get me into 3D animation so I could reanimate the scene how I saw fit. Now, what I eventually did sucked because I had no experience, but I think it's better than just lying about people. The scene I got mad at was a whole bunch of CGI and it wasn't even bad effects, it was just the script. It was...and knowing the origin of this channel I am aware of the irony...it was Victory of the Daleks. The battle in space felt too small scale for me and the lasers on the Dalek ship had the wrong sound and color - plus the scale was wrong. That was it. I didn't go and blame Matt Smith or Nick Briggs for it. I didn't attack the effects artists for douing their job, I just recreated the scene and had some fun. And now I animate character models...though I'm far from the best out there, but it's just fun. I did recently find the old files from 2011 (took me a while to get the software to animate) and put them in a video so we can all laugh at what my petty opinion at the time made me create. Petty or not though, it was ultimately harmless.

I admin in several Doctor Who groups on Facebook large and small. Here's the main reason members actually get banned from groups for... Breaking the group rules. There you have it. If you join a positive posting group and post negative then clearly, you have broken their rules. If the rules say no bigotry, and you leave sexist, racist, homophobic etc comments, then you have broken their rules. Facebook groups are communities, and a lot are taking affirmative action against toxic behavior. If you want to be a member of a group, then respect their rules and boundaries.

My favorite companions are Donna and Bill, mostly cause their relationships with the Doctor are strickly platonic. my step dad stopped watching through the Moffatt era no real reason he just didn't have the time but he came back to the show through Chibnall and was really excited for Jodi and is even more excited for RTD 2 and Ncuti.

the wierd thing about these types of videos, is when they're not talking about "woke politics" you see the bones of valid criticism begin to form. the direction of the chibnall era is flawed imo, the music is a downgrade from what came before, and the writing is easily criticisable. however, they always find a way to circle it back to "actually this is because woke media" before they can ever elaborate on these points in a substantial fashion.

I study media, and hope to work in the industry, and let me tell you I've never been in a woker room than a group of people who want to work in media, so it annoys me to no end that many people who talk about it are horrible bigots. Heck, there's even concept art by Ralph McQuarrie showing that potential female character. Similar to the idea of having a female Doctor in Classic Who. These ideas aren't new, even if it took a while to actually make them reality (with the first female Doctor and Star Wars actually having a female protagonist with Rey)

With regards to his point about drag artistes and children, clearly he's never been to a pantomime. Back in the 70s and 80s, people like Danny La Rue and Hinge & Bracket were ubiquitous on family television. From what I can remember, very few people had an issue with drag acts at that time. In fact, my 94 year old great-aunt was a fan of Paul O'Grady as Lily Savage. I think drag, or whatever you want to call it, isn't the controversial topic some people seem to think it is; in the UK, at least.
UK drag and US drag are two very different things. The former as you say had panto influences and was smutty, but not outright sexualised. The US thing is somewhat different, highly sexualised, and given some of the behaviour of certain drag acts in the US when it comes to appropriate behaviour in front of children, I'm not surprised people aren't fans.
Do feel a bit bad for Aida H Dee here in the UK who seems to be paying the price for that.

Obviously, that's conjecture on my part, but as I say pantos, Python, Les Dawson, Dame Edna Everage et al have long been a part of British culture. Certainly, not everybody likes it, but those that don't tend to keep their opinions to themselves; those not on the internet, at any rate.
I think there's a significant difference between a drag artiste and a drag queen. The latter do tend to be more adult in tone, refusing to use a double entendre when a single one will do. The former, on the other hand, tend to be more family friendly. Not always, but more or less, I would say.
I think the US/North America tends to be more prudish anyway. I certainly think they'd throw a hissy fit at the fact McCain Oven Chips are being advertised by a drag artiste named, appropriately enough, Baga Chipz.

But yeah, I grew up in the same era as Capaldi did which is probably why I find him so irresistible as an actor, as the Doctor, and, well, as eye candy, LOL!), grew up with Pertwee and Baker, onward. I suffered with bad fanfiction in those little (regional??) Sci-fi fan magazines - well, not really even magazines, just copied off (Xeroxed odd, in those days) sheets of paper stapled together and mailed back and forth between those of us in these clubs.
I guess there's none of those left in existence, and many don't even remember seeing anything like that, so it's a lost part of the history. But since I didn't have a VCR for most of those years that the tapes were being traded around, I never saw any of those, either.
And since I could only spend what I earned in things like gathering and turning in glass pop bottles for the deposit money or collecting cans to sell those to the recyclers, I seldom got to read any of the official magazines, much less buy them. I also never got any of the books, so only got to read what was occasionally at the school or public library.
But I can guarantee that every single time there was a petition to bring Who back to the screen - ANY screen - I signed it and passed it around to the few nerds I was friends with who even knew about Who before I sent it back to whoever was collecting them. And I'd regularly write a letter, when I could between classes and chores, and send it aaaaall the way to the BBC (I'm across the pond and smack in the middle of flyover country), begging for more of the Doctor.

Bowelstrek doesn't know what shark jumping is. Shark jumping means a point at which a show flanderizes itself, usually as a result of either forgetting what makes a show special, or running out of ideas. this is something dr who can recover from, it's onme of the few shows consistently able to do so.

Oh wow. Just realised that I used to watch Bowlestrek's Doctor Who DVD collection videos back when I first started getting into collecting myself... How times have changed. Or maybe they haven't and he was always like this. I was pretty young back then and only really interested in being awed at people's massive Doctor Who collections. Pretty sure he wasn't this... _loud_ at the very least... Its interesting. I've gone back and looked at the thumbnails of his videos and noticed that he has seemingly hated Doctor Who for the past 6 years at the very least, yet he hasn't stopped watching the show... I guess he's just a sad little man who enjoys being angry... 🙄
He sounds so much angrier this time...and older. Not sure whether to smirk at his misfortune or be very very scared. Also, Bowlstrek, like...the effects in the Chibnal era were like some of the best the series ever had (if we ignore the Pa Ting or the Kerblaam warehouse. Budget can't account for all things), but like...I could put my DVD on of any Chibnal story bar those two and prove him wrong within seconds. As Will here says. The Opening moments of the Ghost Monument are amazing visually.
I'd just like to add as a bit of balance, I got mad at Doctor Who once, but you know what i did? instead of trying to rant about it, I used that passion to get me into 3D animation so I could reanimate the scene how I saw fit. Now, what I eventually did sucked because I had no experience, but I think it's better than just lying about people. The scene I got mad at was a whole bunch of CGI and it wasn't even bad effects, it was just the script. It was...and knowing the origin of this channel I am aware of the irony...it was Victory of the Daleks. The battle in space felt too small scale for me and the lasers on the Dalek ship had the wrong sound and color - plus the scale was wrong. That was it. I didn't go and blame Matt Smith or Nick Briggs for it. I didn't attack the effects artists for douing their job, I just recreated the scene and had some fun. And now I animate character models...though I'm far from the best out there, but it's just fun. I did recently find the old files from 2011 (took me a while to get the software to animate) and put them in a video so we can all laugh at what my petty opinion at the time made me create. Petty or not though, it was ultimately harmless.

I love how he says 'the concept of learning anything has gone out the window'. We all knew Bowlestrek is incapable of learning, and for a moment even he did.
My favorite companions are Donna and Bill, mostly cause their relationships with the Doctor are strickly platonic. But I do think the Doctor should get a chance to fully explore queer relationships in the same way he's been with women in the past. We didn't get much with 13 and Yaz, but I'm looking forward to see what RTD and Ncuti Gatwa plan to do, if Neil Patrick Harris comment has any truth to it.
