This was the best episode of Doctor Who in a very long time! I haven't felt amazed, scared, and excited about Who since Blink or Midnight. RTD and the cast and crew were amazing
I’ve rewatched first one and it felt old fashioned who. This felt like something Who does great. Very unsettling like Blink, Midnight. Next week will be like the end of Tennant and Tate big season finale. Then into the new Dr Who.
This episode was really spectacular. It was perfect. It's also amazing that Tenant's 14th Doctor doesn't feel exactly like his portrayal of the 10th Doctor. There are certainly elements in there, but the 14th does feel more mature. The 14th Doctor has learned to express his emotions more. In many ways, I can see some influence from Peter Capaldi's Doctor in there.
Episodes like this is why we started watching in the first place. I love these two together. Nearly had a stroke when the real Donna was left behind, but had a feeling the Doctor would figure it out. And he did! It was scary, suspenseful , funny and left you on the edge of your seat. More like this please and thank you! ❤
Cried when I saw wilf at the end though 😢 RIP Bernard you absolute legend!! Can’t believe it’s been over a year so clearly getting close to 2 years since this was filmed.
God I haven’t had a Doctor Who episode be so disquieting since Midnight. Kudos to RTD for writing the episode so well that I couldn’t figure out what was going on until it was explained to me in the episode itself! I really want a figure of the Jimbo robot! He’s so cute!!
I really can appreciate the mavity of the situation now after seeing tonight’s episode and the work that went into it behind the scenes. @@Freakcheeks I would say it wasn't so much the "woke" stuff but more that the people i.e. The Doctor and Donna were acting so out of character. In the Wild Blue Yonder they were written much more like they were in earlier episodes.

This was absolutely a fantastic story and David and Catherine were phenomenal. This felt like such a pure doctor who story with heavy science fiction and really interesting villains which reminded me of Adam from torchwood that existed outside of the universe.
There's nothing about this clip that I didn't find absolutely fascinating, from the design, to the doubling, to the CGI, to the puppet. The whole creative process. What an insight into people's imaginations. Thank you for the post.
I’m sorry, but 3 specials will never be enough. This episode made me want so much more new adventures with these two. It was BEAUTIFULLY made too. The effects were awesome.
This was so much fun to watch :) The only bit i was confused at is when the doctor said something about “i’ve never been out this far before” despite as far as i know that happening twice, Matt Smith - the living planet thing that eats tardis’ And Jodie Whitaker - in division Edit: i also especially love how after the start bit where isaac says Mavity that both Donna and Doctor keep saying it, except as mavity
House (the thing which ate TARDISes) was in a pocket universe, and Division was in the void between universes, so he must mean this is the furthest out he's been "in" the universe. I guess the previous record would've been in Logopolis..
I adored this episode so much, the more villainous 'Doctor' was really impressive. The smirk when they were exchanging heated words through the glass door, WOW! And those teeth, BUY, those TEETH were probably one of the the best parts of this episode. That fake Doctor was REALLY GOOD!
I gotta say, this episode brought me back to my 13 year old self watching empty child, midnight, impossible planet, and all the scariest episodes. I KNEW the moment the Doctor entered the room silently and squatted down in a weird way. Something was off. But then David’s big eyes made me question my initial suspicions. The moment they switched to the other room, I knew something was up. Fantastic episode. Can’t wait to rewatch lol
I wouldn't say close. Midnight was a master piece thriller episode. It definitely felt like midnight with the villians trying to copy the cast and I could tell rtd based this episode on it. I actually was guessing before this episode came out that it the midnight entity was coming back lol.
This episode was so awesome. I love episodes that leave it up to the cast to carry it because DW has such a great cast and they ALWAYS kill it. I also love the concept of taking away everything, and i mean everything, that makes the Doctor powerful. Obviously the TARDIS and the Sonic took off so hes left with his greatest weapon which is of course his mind... and he literally cant use it because it gives his enemy power. Genius.
That scene when Ten was about to break down to Donna and she turned out to be the alien creature, that broke my heart and ALSO scared the besus out of me. Excellent writing. I have missed you so much RTD. thank you for bringing back the magic 💜
I was so moved and happy to see Bernard Cribbons once again, a.k.a Wilfred Mott. God bless this man, you will be missed by the entire community, RIP old soldier 😢
Just finished this one. This just felt like the old classic RTD episodes we loved so much! Let’s hope this continues because sometimes the way going forward is to go back.
Good bye, Bernard Cribbins. You will be missed by countless people, all grateful that you made the world, not limited to but including this show, a better place. Thank you.
Felt like we were right back in Season 4 with the sort of crazy wacky Doctor and Donna adventure we'd expect - but with a lot better effects overall. But also some super funky campy effects that make it Doctor Who. Lovely episode. Starbeast was a lot of fun, but this was truly Doctor Who at its best.
Watching this episode was so fun because I had no idea what was going on, then when “Donna” came into the room and said kind of flatly “i did what you said” I immediately was like “that’s not Donna” then I kept repeating that until I eventually realized that the “Doctor” that was with real Donna was also not the doctor. As creepy as it was it was so fun to watch!
My husband made me pause the episode as soon as the Doctor walked into Donna's room and sat down without a word. He immediately realized, "that's not the Doctor." What great acting and writing can do!
The best part of RTD is on display here: a deep focus on the characters. This is what has been missing for a minute: we haven’t gotten much time inside the doctor’s head since Capaldi.
Honestly going into the episode initially I didn't think I'd be as enthralled by the concept of the Doctor being stuck without his sonic but RTD sticking to his initial concept solidified this as a fantastic episode for me. Not to mention how fantastic the work that the art departments did was! Really I didn't think the robot was practical nor did I think a good chunk of the walls were rendered I honestly thought with how well the lighting was done on the walls most of it was actually moving alongside the ladders! I'm so happy Doctor Who has such a fantastic team behind it, the people who work on it are so talented, big props to them!
I love the look and visual effects done on the specials it looks amazing and take me right back to what Doctor Who feels like to watch. Something that is impossible but yet I'm seeing it.
The no-thing with their too long arms and how they moved and ended up squished in the hallway visually gave me strong Ghibli vibes. I'm not keen for body horror but the abstractness and Ghibli vibes made it watchable for me. Jimbo was awesome! Brave, not so little, robot. I wanted to give him a good repair job to get rid of all the rusty spots. Poor thing! But he fulfilled his duty marvelously. It's good to see that the vibes of "Midnight" brought up again. The no-things trying to copy humanoids physically and down to their memories seemed just like a different approach to what the Midnight Creature did by trying to copy,,ng their consciousness into a humanoid. And it's also wonderful to see quite some familiar faces from behind the scenes again, like Dan Hargraves.
The acting with the doubles reminds me of making off Midnight, too. With the actress that played the possesed woman and David learning to say the same thing on the same time.
Loved this episode. Though people keep saying it's "unlike any Doctor Who episode or TV episode". I disagree. This reminded me of Midnight (in a good way). This episode felt like Midnight meets the 2016 film Passengers. And any story involving imposters like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Secret Invasion, etc. In fact, it reminded me of a lot of Doctor Who episodes involving landing in spooky mostly empty ships and places (The Girl in the Fireplace, 42, Silence in the Library, Under the Lake, Sleep No More, Heaven Sent, Smile, Oxygen, World Enough & Time, etc). This one was just particularly interesting. Come to think of it, this would have made a really cool Capaldi episode.
Honestly the most unsettling and uncanny valley episode I’ve seen since I was younger watching Midnight, I had horrible chills when the fake doctor was just looking motionlessly at Donna and said “My arms are too long” UGH CHILLS.

5:58 Joel talks about 'gravity' ... whatever that is. Some kind of gravy?
Couldn’t take my eyes of the evil ones, it was just odd watching the normally good characters have terrible versions which was somewhat hypnotic, the way they managed to act like shapeless beings in a shape.
I never once thought while watching "oh good acting", I just believed it
This was the best episode of Doctor Who in a very long time! I haven't felt amazed, scared, and excited about Who since Blink or Midnight. RTD and the cast and crew were amazing
Had my worries with the first one, but this was absolutely brilliant
It was such a fun ep. I'll rewatch it 100%
You could truly feel the love put into every second of it
Episodes like this is why we started watching in the first place. I love these two together. Nearly had a stroke when the real Donna was left behind, but had a feeling the Doctor would figure it out. And he did! It was scary, suspenseful , funny and left you on the edge of your seat. More like this please and thank you! ❤
Probably the most BONKERS episode of DOCTOR WHO EVER! It was also great to see Wilf back too!❤❤❤
... uhh.. dude.. He's dead. That was literally his last time on screen.
@@Nazgull2k1 ok buzzkill, lets be thankful that hes even in it
RIP Bernard Cribbins❤️❤️❤️
Cried when I saw wilf at the end though 😢 RIP Bernard you absolute legend!! Can’t believe it’s been over a year so clearly getting close to 2 years since this was filmed.
love all the behind the scenes with the different departments. takes a village
So good. This episode was just brilliant. We were all completely sucked in. Just so much fun to watch.
Rest in peace, Bernard. Thanks for this one last gift.
This episode is a MASTERPIECE! Absolutely up there with the best of all Doctor Who episodes.
God I haven’t had a Doctor Who episode be so disquieting since Midnight.
Kudos to RTD for writing the episode so well that I couldn’t figure out what was going on until it was explained to me in the episode itself!
I really want a figure of the Jimbo robot! He’s so cute!!
this is the closets the show has gotten to one of those really experimental early 2000s Big Finish audios, like Zagreus or something
I agree!
It's like Scherzo... with visual added
Really enjoyed that, it was like a less convoluted Moffat story.
I really can appreciate the mavity of the situation now after seeing tonight’s episode and the work that went into it behind the scenes. My jaw was on the floor thanks to mavity and a cup of coffee in the TARDIS. On a serious note though, RIP Bernard Cribbins, you were an incredible actor and I hope you know that, I sobbed my eyes out seeing Wilf at the end, I’m so glad he made it into tonights 60th anniversary special ❤️.
This is one of the best Doctor Who stories of all time. Up there with Silence in the Library, Midnight, The Waters of Mars and Heaven Sent.
The robot reminds me of Marvin The Robot from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy movie. But smaller and beat up and does talk about his depression 😅
So glad RTD is back!
What a contrast to last weeks episode, this was absolutely awesome
I agree with you 🎉🎉🎉
Agreed! 🙋🏻♂️
No woke bullshit this time around?
@@Freakcheeks I would say it wasn't so much the "woke" stuff but more that the people i.e. The Doctor and Donna were acting so out of character. In the Wild Blue Yonder they were written much more like they were in earlier episodes.
@@johnburn8031 That was one of the most frustrating parts of the Chibnall era as well. It was REALLY hard to criticize anything without being lumped in with the hateful "Anti-woke" snowflakes. I hated it because of poor writing and storytelling, not because of "Woke".
Seeing Wilfred at the end brought me an unimaginable amount of joy.
This was absolutely a fantastic story and David and Catherine were phenomenal. This felt like such a pure doctor who story with heavy science fiction and really interesting villains which reminded me of Adam from torchwood that existed outside of the universe.
how a lovely result we've just watched made by passionate and talented people from different fields coming together
That being a stopmotion style puppet is so awesome
Beautiful, complex-appearing set with fun cgi-enhanced creatures! I loved it!
RTD knows how to scare me like no other. Please, more scary episodes! They get my anxiety up in a really good way lol
There's nothing about this clip that I didn't find absolutely fascinating, from the design, to the doubling, to the CGI, to the puppet. The whole creative process. What an insight into people's imaginations. Thank you for the post.
Really loved this episode, eerie at times, thrilling in others. Just the two for the whole episode! So fun
I’m sorry, but 3 specials will never be enough. This episode made me want so much more new adventures with these two. It was BEAUTIFULLY made too. The effects were awesome.
This was so much fun to watch :)
The only bit i was confused at is when the doctor said something about “i’ve never been out this far before” despite as far as i know that happening twice,
Matt Smith - the living planet thing that eats tardis’
And
Jodie Whitaker - in division
Edit: i also especially love how after the start bit where isaac says Mavity that both Donna and Doctor keep saying it, except as mavity
maybe it’s even further than those times. as for during the flux, she was inside a time lord ship i suppose
@@edadankmemes technically for the flux she was between universes so perhaps this was as far as the doctor had been in the universe
House (the thing which ate TARDISes) was in a pocket universe, and Division was in the void between universes, so he must mean this is the furthest out he's been "in" the universe. I guess the previous record would've been in Logopolis..
@@TheMoonRover ok :)
I almost wonder if that space between universes in Flux was the “nothing” that the No-Things referred to
0:37 that was a practical effect! No wonder that was so creepy. Also, BERNARD CRIBBIIIIIIINS! Fantastic to see him back.
This episode comes close to Midnight, well done.
I wouldn't say close. Midnight was a master piece thriller episode. It definitely felt like midnight with the villians trying to copy the cast and I could tell rtd based this episode on it. I actually was guessing before this episode came out that it the midnight entity was coming back lol.
if there’s one takeaway from this episode it’s that ‘gravity’ is now canonically spelt like ‘mavity’
One of the greatest episodes I've seen in the show in years
This episode was so awesome.
Genius.
The reveal with the robot was awesome, albeit devastating. 😭
The writing in here was perfection! Russell still got it after all those years!
Definitely the creepiest episode yet. I can’t wait for next week
Thank you.
I’ll admit the design of the aliens (particularly when deformed) occasionally took me out, but damn was this a masterpiece of tension building.
Same. The long arms and jaws etc put me off. They should’ve just been original copies from the start
@@H2E47 I liked it, made me laugh at how creepy-absurd they were.
I was too unnerved to be taken out XD
I liked the absurdity going away turning into these almost perfect copies
They could've just altered their looks slightly for maximum uncanny valley vibes.
This week's special episode was fantastic! Love it from start to finish.
Wilf, forever in our hearts 🫡
When he left the real Donna behind, omg the fear on her face 😭
RTD that was genius. One of the best tv episodes ive ever watched - literally had chills throughout the WHOLE episode
I enjoyed this episode because willferd Moffat came back I'm excited for next week
An absolutely brilliant special! Enjoyed this much more then that first! 💙
300% much better
The best part of RTD is on display here: a deep focus on the characters. This is what has been missing for a minute: we haven’t gotten much time inside the doctor’s head since Capaldi.
The is the reason why I love Russell T Davies he knows how to keep up clued to our seats 😁😁
Phenomenal episode, everyone did such a great job!
Dude, these specials are magnificent.
Ive never been on such of an emotional roller coaster as this episode, and the heaviest part being the end.
Loved this episode, was genuinely unsettling for the first time in a long time.
This episode was to quote 10/14, Brilliant
Felt like Heaven sent but with only a companion, and David and Catherine were excellent in it
Loved this episode.
Gonna miss Bernard so much. Fly High man.
upside down Tennant spider will absolutely haunt my nightmares tonight
