One reason why my guinea pigs 'purr' is when I give them a particular treat that they really like. (Like when you give them lettuce etc.) yes, they are saying 'Thank you, Debbie!'

Purring is so interesting. My dominant girl does it the most with the herd. Then, I'll know who is hormonal based on which lower ranking ones start purring and rumble strutting around for a few days and then settle down. Carson is my happy cuddling purr boy, and loves getting under my hair, then purrs and squeaks like a goofball. They're all so funny. 💗

There's even happy purring while soft curious squeaking and eating, I call that The Hat Trick. There's a distinctive little soft sounding, short baby purr that I sometimes get when they are in a content, snuggle mode or gentle exploring mode and they want attention. Almost like when adult cats do that kind of kitten purr at you.

@@ScottysAnimals hi Scott I have a female smooth hair guinea pig called Tinka she is 5 years old and loves her lap love and cuddles and doesn't purr but is happy to be on my lap but when I put her back on the cage she will give a low short purr as to say why you put me back in cage

I let my new Guinea pig out for the first time. I was laying on my side and he laid under my chin and nose as I breathed out dor warmth. As I pet him he started from his happy honks to hooting like a owl. I almost cried since it was the real first time he showed he trusted me.
Scotty I love your videos! I know it’s not very popular to only have one piggy but I’m one of those people. I have PTSD and basically live in my room with my piggy. She’s 5 and very happy and healthy, we love watching Saskia and I’ve learned so much just from watching you guys! My fur baby purrs a lot and she does the rumble strut everyday! She does it when she’s coming from her play ares onto my bed and wants me to pet her or snuggle in the blankets ❤️ She’s so wonderful

Okay, I am relieved. My Male piggy does number one a lot. Even when my other piggy isn't around. So I'm hoping its because he feels like hes living to his full guinea pig potential. And that makes me happy!!
One of my boys LOVES butt scratches, he’s very vocal, when I pet his butt he popcorns a lot and so many happy noises, but doesn’t purr. My other guy purrs a lot, he does it when he gets treats, lays down comfy, I pet him and even when I’m just doing my own thing so I’m guessing it’s a content/happy purr. It’s a low and calm purr
He used to have dental issues that caused pain and only some time after those were resolved he started being vocal, when I got my boys they came from an uneducated owner so purr boy was rather traumatised at first and they both had health issues, now he’s finally showing a personality and being vocal so truly believe they’re happy/content purrs.

When I pick up my guinea pig Dasher out of the cage for snuggle time she purrs when I haven’t even pet her yet. She gets really happy lol.

my female piggie does a lot of rumble strutting so she's definitely the most aggressive of the two piggies I have.
Bandit purrs a lot. When she was young, everytime she came into heat she used to chase poor Maggie all over the cage rumble strutting and purring. The worst of it only last a few hours and it was generally over in a day or 2, but it got less an less as she got older. She also purrs when she's really enjoying chin tickles. She stretches her head out and I use both hands and give those jaws a good run down and she purrs away like a kitty. Imagine how sire their jaws must be at the end of a long day of nomming on hay, I bet it feels great
It’s so funny to hear you sporadically say “…BOYS!!! KNOCK IT OFF” throughout the video - I have 3 boars who live together and have all been together since they were around 2 mos old, and they get along swimmingly, but I work from home and I have to say “…HEY!…BOYS!!!” Several times a day and they will calm down LOL
My one girl Luna was housed with a male in her first home so she's very sensitive and hates her bum area being touched. So I usually just give her neck and head scratchies
The rumble strut is too funny. I know it's a dominance thing but as long as they aren't fighting. It is funny. From time to time they'll both do the occasional rumblestrut but not as often anymore.

i love how vocal guinea pigs are! my two boys are brothers, both white abyssinians, & they're always chatting among themselves, i always wonder what they're talking about lol
My old piggie used to reply to me in purrs whenever I purred to her, we would have a whole conversation in purring! (This wasn’t while I was holding her either!)
I think she used to use it as more of a chatting thing than a happy or dominant noise.

My boar purrs a lot. He has a low an long purr when he is ‘dancing’ for his girl, when he realises he gets his veggies he sometimes purrs while running to me, and when he smels his favourite veggies, he has a very cute, short purr. Sometimes he purrs after yawning. My sow only purrs after a very loud sound.
My girl and boy are separated and purr at each other all day

Scotty's Animals I have a quick question. My Lola is expecting (It was a big shocker since we were told that Zeus was definitely a girl & I specifically asked for just 2 girls). I immediately separated the both of them once I noticed their mistake but by then I had them together for a week. Well Lola is definitely preggos. Anyways, today I noticed what it looked like scabs just above her nose. Am I able to shower her and give her the medicines she needs now or is it better that I wait till after she has her pups? I try my best not to move her around too much only if it’s necessary. Tbh, you’re videos & Sakias videos has saved me a lot of money and time. I had taken my Lola twice to a Vet here in Hawaii but sadly my options are limited & they were of no use. Tbh, yours and Saskia’s videos has helped me a lot. I would love to hear from you and hear your advice on what I should do with my Lola.

Thanks. One of my piggies just purred. I just let them try to get cut up green peppers and hay out of a paper bag ball. I think Snickers might have been the one who purred since he beat Twix to most of the veggies inside of the bag ball.
One of my female guinea pigs rumble strutted just once when she was around 3 months old. It was the cutest sound I ever heard. So much softer and higher than my boys' voices.
I met Gary in person and he's soooooo cute! My my he was the first furry teddy I've seen! My Bubba purrs when he wants me to stop petting near his butt. His purrs always mean "I don't like this so please stop."

Mine purrs in the same pitch when listening to the Star Wars and the Halloween film scores and when I pet him. Same length and pitch.
I have two girls. The older one turned out to be very aggressive when we introduced the baby. It took a lot of work to get them to be friends. They have settled down and now the older one mainly rumble struts when we put veggies in or right after I put them back in the cage after I clean it. It's not hormonal. The baby is not totally submissive, even after a month of being together. So the older piggie just has to remind her who's boss every now and then.
My skitter purrs and runs off if he wants treats but I'm only going to give him a pat! I will not speak to you without treats hooman 🤣
The sound made by keys jangling always, always makes my guineas make the "I don't like that" purr (or "berr" as I think of it).

I have 2 guineas. Both boys I believe... And one will Puuurrr as to where the other one will not.. He usually does it when we scratch his sides... So its almost like it tickles him... We love to hear him todo it .

Our guinea pig, Bean, seams to like his head scratched and it makes him purr. Then he likes to be picked up and cuddled and nuzzles himself in my neck.
Our guinea pig purrs to our tomcat and our tomcat howls back.
It seems to be their hypnotizing frequency to make you do what they want.

I have one skinny in my herd of ladies, who will purr at veggie time. She takes a carrot and runs with it, then purrs while she is eating it lol.
When I had my Guinea, sometimes I would just copy his purr and he'd do it back, what could that have meant?
That meant he thought you were another piggy he needed to show who’s boss! You were sort of speaking his language!
Hi, I just want to say thank you for all your advice. I used to have 2 females guinea pigs but one passed away last year. I have one left and she is 7 years old and I just love her. She purrs when I give her treats that she likes and when I touch her near her butt. I tried to keep her with me as much as possible so she doesn’t feel alone. Thank you again, keep it up.
I think my 2 boys have at least 2 different purrs. One is higher pitched than the other. I think the lower pitched purr seems to mean “I’m annoyed, get out of my way or I’ll bite you!” The higher pitched one seems to mean “I’m really happy/ excited right now yay!” They sometimes start popcorning when they do their happy purr too.
Mine purr when introduced to a new sound. One of mine is a music critic because he purred if he doesn't like a song.
We call one of our two male guenia pig - little vibrator :) He is often purring because of reason #1, trying to show dominance to younger piggy, when they are close to each other)

Reason #5: Responding to Shark's attempts to purr at me. She isn't very good at it, but I humor her with a response.
It's a good sign, when a human tries to speak animal. Shark is engaging in that extra connection, how sweet.
@@erkheth Often when Shark sneezes many times in a row I make this little sneeze/snort noise. I don''t want to be left out! (I pretend that I don't know that if shies sneezing like that it is usually because of me.)
I love the cuddle sack! I reckon the main reason for 'purring' (or 'rumble-strutting' - or 'gurring', as we have always called it )- is the 'mating call' from a male to a female.

They respond with teeth chattering when music with a heavy beat comes on. They're just next to the room with the music and TV
In my experience teeth chattering is always associated with them being scared or upset. Two of mine do it during their fights

It’s actually hurts there little ears that’s why they Teeth chattering at you . They used their hearing to know if are going to be safe or not. That I could learn about Guinea pigs In 2011 two Guinea pigs were given to me. The people that had them before me was being abused and, neglected them . With in two months. Hurley and sweety. Had gained a lot of weight . When I had first got them they was a little week, and when sweety got his strength back i had to keep a hold of of him. Till I could get him back in to his house. If I didn’t he would jump right out of my handscc

i had a guinea pig who loved being petted, she would literally jump pn my hands when given a chance and loved to fall asleep in my hair when i layed in bed. she purred when i touched her but, her chin and her head as well. also when she got her favourite snack.
My girls all rumble strut every three weeks or so like clock work. I have three though and there's definitely a dominance factor, but it seems hormonal for sure based on the regular frequency

my big boy Reggie purrrrrs (long) when he hears music with any percussion in it or loud noises, so we think he disapproves!.....which is most music, so I end up putting bird song on my phone just to keep him happy! (or 🌊/🌧️) 🤣 xXx
So my female guinea pig... I like to say she has a mind of a dog. Because when I pet her she just lays down and like soaks it all up. But she also does the rumbling stuff when, I like u said, pet her booty but she doesn’t squirm. Tbh she’s so friendly with me I think she’s crushing.

One time my female Guinea pig, Caramel asked to come inside from grazing on a hot day. Caramel rarely purrs, but that day she jumped into her cage as soon as she was close enough, and then purred as she walked the length of her cage, before settling down on her favorite resting perch.
What do you mean grazing on a hot day? Heat stroke can kill a Guinea Pig very quickly.
@@ScottysAnimals I take the piggies outside before the sun comes up above the neighbor's fence in the early morning, so that they are not in the direct sun. I like it cool. I don't like temperatures much above 70, and I am outside with them, so I figure if I don't mind it, they probably don't either. If I don't want to be out, they don't either. They have developed a way to tell me when they want to come inside, and I bring them in as soon as they ask. As we move closer to August, the temperature is often in the high seventies or low eighties before the sun reaches my yard. On days like that, we only stay out for 5 or ten minutes. If the temperature is above 85, I don't take them out at all. I just go out myself and brave the heat to pick a few handfuls of the plants they like the best.

We owned an Abyssinian that one time rumble strutted at me for no reason. Another time, maybe for the fourth reason, he was on my bed and he was purring while pawing at my douvet and pulling it up. It was one of the most adorable sights I've seen! :3 And my own guinea pig used to purr, stretch and yawn when I'd scratch his back. Really miss my piggy and the others :(
When Gary was nibbling you was that because he didn’t like the way he was being held? One of my pigs has started doing it and I wasn’t sure if it was just because I had been cutting peppers and he thought I was food or not 😂
Some piggies do it as an affection thing
One of my girls does it when she’s done with lap time, kind of a way to signal that she’s annoyed and wants to go home. She’ll nip at the towel, my shirt, or my skin, whatever she can.
I have one piggy that rumble struts all the time, most of the day actually. My other one will make little crying noises in response. They also touch each other’s faces. It’s adorable.
One of my guinea pigs will sometimes purr when he hears certain sounds(mostly synthetic ones) I think it means he doesn't like it.
We have two females and two boys when they get together the the Pearl when they get excited to see each other
I have a an older guinea who just got guinea pig ring worm, she’s in a foster being cared for , but I have her a brother for when she comes home as a surprise , I appreciate your video, it gave me a lot of insight as to what she has been doing, and now I feel secure knowing she is happy as can be , and our new baby king , is adjusting well , he rumble struts ,and does zoomies all over now 😂He was so shy at first , but now the little guy knows what’s going on when he hears his hay bale bag or his little treats or green peppers , apple , spinach , romaine , he is in heaven right now haha… and He loves hide and seek… just like his big sis … they are going to have the best time… p.s: Cleo gweeks all day at the sound of anything lol and she gets reallly loud , like really really loud…😂😂 but that’s my little guinea pig story … Lol

My two ladies rumble a lot! Chasing each other, touching butts. It doesn't last long but they do it haha. Might be because they're sisters
My wife usually wheeks whenever I say Pigleeeeet!!! (the same way you say Boooyys?!) but when i play with her hear, i told her if she okay with that, she said yes she likes it, I told her then why aren't you purrring? she just roll her eyes and purrs but as for my other late real guinea pigs, I would pat them on their butt assuming they like that, til i learn the samething you mentioned about dominates and they don't like that. However one of the 19 guinea pig I had would usually want to be patted there because he would do that butt shaking when i pat him on the butt and when I stop the piggie will wheeks til i put my hand near and he will pop corn hop and say "pat me! pat me!" lol so I gave him a salad because I got tired of it. Gizmo was one smart guinea pig, the rest like to be patted on their mohawk, or on their chin. I heard of the 4th one because they hear the bags opening, and all line up at front of the DIY cage excepting food. man I miss all my 19 guinea pigs. I hope Florida has a Guinea pig Rescue so I can finally volunteer and get my Guinea pig fix that been long over due.

Super cool! Thanks for sharing! I have only seen purring with the first two cases with my girls. The Baby makes a chirping sound when she is enjoying cuddle time and Melly will be quiet when she is enjoying herself.
My female Albino Himalaya loves when i pet her and on the butt. Whenever i pet her, she lays all flat, when i reach her butt she streches and yawns and stays pancaket and vibrates by purring in sipent. My other female and my male purr also but not too loud. My male is a reborn cat let me tell you. When he purrs, i lay my hand there, like you put your hand for dogs and cats to smell. My male sees my hand, comes to my hand and rubs his right side and leans so fad back at my hand while purring, so that his butt is almost laying on the ground. One time he rubbed his body on my hand until he lost his balance and fell on his side. xD
All three purr while i am holding them. Especially my male. x3
