More sketchbook videos? Yes, please! Thanks for this video; I'm inspired to be more loose and free in my own sketchbooks. It's so tempting to want to make finished paintings in my sketchbooks, rather than just record ideas and try new things.
So process orientated! It's great to see the sequence and build up of layers of mixed media; explaining as you go. In a hectic world about speed, this is a great mindful approach.😊
Thanks for the feedback. I love botanicals so I can't wait to share more of that process. There will be a bit of botanical and abstract in the free course!
Oh my gosh - the freedom you exhibited is exactly the encouragement I needed. So loose, unplanned, spontaneous marks and backgrounds. I love these! Thank you🧡
I've been feeling my artistic horizon widening for a while, and stumbling upon your channel has inspired me to try new techniques! Now I want to go fill my unused sketchbooks!
I will love more sketchbook videos, specially botanical sketchbooks, but the other demos I also enjoy very much. I am also looking forward to your new free course 😃
Thank you, happy to hear that! I do love botanicals and look forward to sharing more soon. There will be a botanical demo in the free course! Well, at least that's the plan.
I love seeing your venture into abstract art through this sketchbook of yours. I love your botanicals too and I learn a lot from your style. I think the sketchbooks provide an easy approach to abstract and mixed media art because you are such a lovely artist and we get to see how you play with colors and lines. It’s very encouraging!
Thank you for the fantastic feedback. I enjoy sharing sketchbooks because you get to see quite a lot in a short space of time. It might not be fully polished but the concepts are there-great for learning!
Very interested in the new upcoming free course. I love seeing any of your sketchbooks. Your ideas and art work are always intriguing. Thank you for sharing your gift of art.
Loved seeing you work through your sketchbook and would love to see you work in your other book on botanicals. I’ve started making my own sketchbooks too but would love to see your process for the sketchbook you used here and what different types of paper you used. I made one with a mixture of papers, including watercolor paper, canvas pad, raw canvas, some brown kraft paper and burlap. I didn’t think to use plain copy paper.
Thank you for the lovely feedback. The process for making the sketchbooks is in my year long course, The Creative Blend Art Program. I will leave a link for the individual module/class in case you are interested in finding out more: classes.laurahornart.com/p/cbap-0622
I think you're really good at narrating the technical process and thought process, which seems to be rather rare for artists. So, it's really helpful to listen to you, thanks!(:
This freedom is exactly why I have chosen your courses. I love your process and the loose way you hold your tools. Thanks so much and please keep sharing ❤😊
Exciting News! I’m launching a free Modern Mixed Media Taster course-sign up for my newsletter to stay in the loop and get a preview of my upcoming 6-week course! 🌿www.laurahornart.com/newsletter 🌿
Love your videos, Laura. Watched this and sat down with my paints and sketchbook and played. The looser/freer I allow myself to be, the more fun and cool stuff emerges. Namaste. XO
Yes, I would love to see a video with your nature inspired sketches as well. I love all the variety of videos that you share! Thank you for the inspiration....headed to my studio now to play!
Your mark-making and explorations are so very inspiring! It was from you that I learned not to try to make finished paintings in my sketchbooks. Just to play and learn what I liked and do more of it. Such a valuable lesson! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do to help us grow as artists! I love the classes that I've bought from you and am really looking forward to the new courses. Hopefully you have many, many students. 🌻
Yes, it’s insightful to watch your process. The botanical side of abstract 👍🏻 I bound some color toned papers into a booklet. Most of the time I jump for color. You are so good at marks & cool shapes 💚🐾🖌️🗺️🌞
Thank you! I make all my sketchbooks and journals, in different shapes. I also play a bit with painting. I whould love a free, inspireing course. Hugs from Annelis Journaling/Palette, Sweden.
This is a lovely watch of loose abstract practice. I was wondering how you make your sketchbooks? Could you do a video? Just a thought. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Lesley, I have module in my Creative Blend Art Program that shows the full process. I will leave the link for the individual module/class: classes.laurahornart.com/p/cbap-0622
Laura, I loved this video, always so enjoy watching imagery come to life. Did I see some influence from Hilma in your geometry? I collect pinboards of symbols and shapes, all there to scroll through when I’m creating, seeing what calls me, like beginning points. And then of course, the magic steps in. I am hoping to perhaps sell some work this week (I have a shared exhibition with a local potter) and although I create profusely in many mediums, would love to take one of your courses soon. ❤
Yes, the geometric shapes are a nod to Hilma and some of the other artists that have inspired me in the books that I have been sharing recently! Still experimenting with how I might infuse a bit more of that inspiration into my work. Pin boards of shapes is a great idea. Good luck with your exhibition!!
I would love to see your process using botanical shapes! I just created a sketchbook using paper cutting. It was quite interesting seeing how the light passed through the pages. I think using a botanical theme would be quite interesting. Thank you for this video.
Enjoyed this Laura and keen to see your free course when it comes up. Could you give a link to where you show how to make your sketch books? Are you using watercolour paper?
Hi Anna, glad you enjoyed it. The process for making the sketchbooks is in my year-long course, The Creative Blend Art Program. I will link the individual module in case you wanted to check out just that part: classes.laurahornart.com/p/cbap-0622

I've been look at a Shaun Tan art book called 'Creature' so part way through this I suddenly saw the black spotted shape looks just like a creature! A well-fed wildcat crossover with lots of short stocky legs! (on the page with gold ink).
Did you film this before or after the video about art books you're being inspired by lately? I see echoes of Hilma af Klint with the geometrics and linework, but maybe that's just me. TFS!
After!!!! Yes, the books that I have been sharing have been inspiring some new ways of working. Definitely in love with Hilma's style and wondering how I can infuse a little Hilma into my own work. It's a work in progress, but what better place to explore than in a little handmade book. I wondered if anyone might notice ✨✨✨
Oh wow! Really connecting with the sharper geometric page’s composition and pop of blue. Such freshness and movement. It’s like music! It’s so helpful when you share out loud your self-redirection (as you are heading toward the desire to continue to fiddle with the page)…and gently remind yourself you had a different intention with this sketchbook. It’s so real and it’s wonderful, healthy modeling. I would love to see the botanical/nature inspired sketchbook as well! Thank you for all you do. You’re such an encouragement!
Thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoyed the "real talk". Always having to remind myself of my original intentions. Look forward to sharing the botanical edition of this process!
Thanks for the tip! I tested them previously with water and the vibrancy was good but didn't find them so great when used dry. I prefer the Neo Color II crayons for dry marks. Will keep laying with the Lyra's though!
More sketchbook videos? Yes, please! Thanks for this video; I'm inspired to be more loose and free in my own sketchbooks. It's so tempting to want to make finished paintings in my sketchbooks, rather than just record ideas and try new things.
Glad you enjoyed it. It is so easy to get caught up in refining and yet it's not always the best use of creative time in a sketchbook!
Yes please more sketchbooks videos
Is there a way to contact you regarding my class online? I accidentally put in the wrong email and it won’t edit. Thanks!
Sorry, I am only just seeing this now. Not sure if your issue has been resolved, but you can always reach me on email at laurahornart@gmail.com 💓

Thank you, botanicals are my fav so that's an easy one for me to do!
Oh my gosh - the freedom you exhibited is exactly the encouragement I needed. So loose, unplanned, spontaneous marks and backgrounds. I love these! Thank you🧡
I am delighted it was helpful. Often the best things emerge when we get out of our head!
Oh Laura I really love the neutral palette. You always inspire me with color, you do things I wouldn't think to consider but now I want to try that.
That is so sweet, thank you!
I've been feeling my artistic horizon widening for a while, and stumbling upon your channel has inspired me to try new techniques! Now I want to go fill my unused sketchbooks!

YES! I so struggle with trying to make "finished" art in my sketchbooks...but I'm slowly learning to loosen up.
It's definitely a different process, but I love that you're exploring it and playing!
Love your videos, Laura. Watched this and sat down with my paints and sketchbook and played. The looser/freer I allow myself to be, the more fun and cool stuff emerges. Namaste. XO

I did enjoy❣️❣️
Happy to hear that, thanks for letting me know too!
Yes, it’s insightful to watch your process. The botanical side of abstract 👍🏻
I bound some color toned papers into a booklet. Most of the time I jump for color.

Love this! Have you seen the work of Karen Stamper? She does an amazing online course ‘free up your sketchbook and grow’. X
Thank you! I heard of Karen from Louise Fletcher on the Art Juice podcast. Her course sounds great.

I find Lyra Aquacolor needs heavy layering and activation with water to achieve vibrancy.
Thanks for the tip! I tested them previously with water and the vibrancy was good but didn't find them so great when used dry. I prefer the Neo Color II crayons for dry marks. Will keep laying with the Lyra's though!
