Hi Laura from Jess in the south of the UK. I love your broad approach to art, it’s so interesting when you refer to inspiring books you’ve read to help you with your practice. Art runs so much deeper than the actual end output. Thanks for everything you share, I really look forward to taking it all in with a cuppa!
Hi Jess, love your comment - art is so much more than putting paint to paper. There are connections everywhere and it doesn't matter if others can see those connections or not. It's just lovely when a piece of art reminds you of an experience, feeling, or memory. Many of my art pieces remind me of books, songs, personal objects, and places. It all finds its way in!
This looks exactly like what I need. I'll try to do a similar excersize with watercolor. Oh and don't feel bad about then repeated sweater, it is beautiful. I miss the day we could repeat our favorite garments lots of time. But don't let that stop you from enjoying shopping
Thank you! I used to try and wear different things in my videos, but I don't have a very big wardrobe, so I quickly ran out! Last year, I didn't really buy any clothes, but I do feel the need for some fresh wardrobe inspiration. Might be time! All the old favourites will get a work-out on this channel though, I like to wear things a lot before I retire them 🤎
I am so glad it was helpful! The "I can't draw" message can be such a barrier, but we can all draw in our own unique way once we let go of the pressure!
I have just discovered your channel and your approach to art is beautiful and so inspiring. Thank you for sharing, I can’t wait to watch more from your channel. Now to prep a go-to area for my art - this video was just what I needed xx
Hi Laura, that was a great tutorial. I’m from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺 and I really love your style of art. You have such calmness about you which is so relaxing to watch. 😊
Thank you! To put your mind at ease, this was actually a temporary dining table, we have a new table now which I always protect 😊 This one is a second hand table I picked up to eventually use in the studio, but we used it in our house when we first moved in. It already had some paint on it when I got it so I’m not too worried adding more I do have some table cloths and boards I use to protect it if I know I’m going to be really messy!
So much fun! Your painted sketches turned out beautifully, and I love the notes in pencil, also. I'll have to remember your words about not working towards perfection but towards creative flow. Love that! 💚
Thanks for sharing this information. I am trying to become less rigid and looser as an artist...I really liked the mixed medium and the philosophy of unfinished, imperfections, and the goal of a state of natural flow artistically
I admire the idea of writing down what you used. I would write this on a post-it-note though (rather then the actual page) so I could remove it down the road if I choose to
Absolutely, that's a great approach. I'm pretty relaxed about what is in my sketchbook and don't mind the notes, but if you prefer not to have them detract from the art, post-it notes would work really well.
This is such a wonderful video Laura. Thank you for sharing your book Wabi Sabi ....... something I'd like to explore, it sounds so interesting. You're loose exercise is very refreshing and I cannot wait to try. It'll look nothing like your's but it's fun to give it a go 🎉 ~ Barbie

that's very "nice & loose"; i lyke that technique!!! well, i'm a so called classic artist, but i like to incorporate "mixed media" to my art, 'coz, it's so minimalized and yet so powerful, everyone does it!!! tfs anywayys, tenx!!!you have a great day!!
Hi Laura! Again trying new ways so as to improve my creations, and here i am! New classes with Laura Horn! Really i needed these tips from my experienced teacher! Thanks for every detail you give to your students! Love!
Thank you for this video, very informative and inspiring. I will be trying this out in the near future. I am also looking forward to your upcoming videos, starting in April .🙋🏼♀️🌻🇨🇦
I have never used acrylic inks! They look like a great option if you are use to watercolour. What brand do you use and do you have any videos specifically for using these inks??
Hi Monika, I use both Amsterdam and Daler Rowney FW ink and like them both. I don't have a specific video on using inks but I will add that to the list! Thank you :)
Thank you for this video. I have just discovered your work and will be signing up for the Melting Pot class! Very excited!! What palette paper are you using here?
Thank you Laura, I needed this today. What type of crayon did you use, please? I love it when people often wear the same clothes, so much kinder for our 🌏 Thank you Laura, glad to have found your channel!
you mention two different greys. One is warm and one being paynes. I can’t find the paynes even on amsterdam’s website. is it possible that it’s got another name for that colour?
Watercolour is usually transparent, while ink can be either transparent or opaque. Another big difference is that watercolour can be reactivated with water after drying, whereas most inks dry permanently.
I imagine a freehand holly, mistletoe and anything christmasy done this way 🎄
So delightful, and I love your laugh xx
You're the sweetest, thank you! 😊
I am Japanese. Wabi-Sabi is very difficult, like catching smoke. I think your painting was a success.
Thank you very much! Wabi-Sabi is such a fascinating and beautiful concept, I’m enjoying learning more about it ❤️

I have trouble being loose with a sketchbook - also getting over the idea that “I can’t draw”. So this was very encouraging and helpful! Thanks!

Go for it

Oh thank you! Glad you enjoyed and the jumper will definitely appear again, it's an old favourite!!
Lovely work! but I couldn't stop worrying about the surface of your dining room table!! (Wipeable covering comes to mind😂)

Glad you liked it!!
I love this. How fun to play around make a little art and learn what colors look good together.
I like this, I like the way your did your video, and I like that you did not talk constantly so I could focus on the visual side of it. well done
I really loved this video, I’d love to have a go even though it would never look like yours.💛
It's probably been sometime since I've seen this and I still glean wonderful insight watching it. Mahalo!

Stunning! Such a freeing technique. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
That’s a great idea to use your sketchbook as a break from doing other things (or doing other things as a break from your sketchbook!)
The two go hand in hand! I love having a sketchbook open, ready to go, when the timing is right!
Thank you Laura and can’t wait for the 1st of April
Me too!! I’m excited for it 📖🎨

I will check time zones and post more info on the community page of my channel in next day or so! Need to firm up exact times 😊🎨
What is the difference between acrylic ink and watercolor?

Hi,these are watercolours or ink?
In this video, I am using acrylic inks, but you could do the same techniques with watercolour.
What kind of crayons?
Prismacolor Neocolor II crayons and Derwent Inktense pencils.
