    This loose, process-oriented, flowy, curiosity-driven approach to art is really one of your signature traits, I think, and I appreciate it so much! ❤

    Nice idea to work across several sketch books. I normally work with one and wait for things to dry which is ok if I only have 15 minutes to practise art, but I like the thought of having the freedom to do more by working across several. Beautiful work as always!

      It's only recently that I realised that not everyone works on multiple sketchbooks at a time 😆I am so used to having several on the go! Glad you enjoyed the video.

    Thank you!! I am thrilled!! I am in love with the mix media idea and the abstract style. I found out about you thru Ammy from Little Ammy Arts channel. I started to do water color about 10 years ago but had a bad teacher with a lot of rules. I ended up quitting all together. But thanks to you tube have found my spark again. I look forward to getting going again!!

    • @LauraHornArt

      You are welcome, I love it too as it means most of the ink ends up on the page and doesn't dry on the palette or get in your water. Keeps everything really lovely and vibrant. Sometimes I do dots, other times I do squiggles and then just blend them out.

    Very inspiring, Laura. With limited creative time available, I am often cautious about spending time in the sketch book as I want to use my time to “make artwork” to share and exhibit. This has helped me to appreciate the value of sketchbooks for experimentation and learning, which is a big mental shift for me. I’m just scared of falling in love with things in my sketch book and not being able to recreate them! 😂

    • @LauraHornArt
      @LauraHornArt  7 месяцев назад

      I adore the sketchbook, but I think the inspiration it gives to larger pieces creates art I love on an even larger scale! Hopefully that helps you not get stuck in the "what if" of loving your sketchbook too much 😂💖

    Your art is so beautiful! Are your sketchbooks just for play and getting new ideas or do you use those pages in finished art pieces?

    • @LauraHornArt
      @LauraHornArt  8 месяцев назад +1

      Mostly just for play and experimentation. I do refer to them when painting finished pieces, but only loosely. It's one of the things I love about sketchbooks - it's my personal art time and I love they way it makes me feel.

    Love this video. Can I ask - I have a gelly roll 10 white pen and I can't get the ink to flow. Is the oen faulty or am I using it wrong?

    • @LauraHornArt
      @LauraHornArt  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you. Sometimes gel pens can be a bit tricky to get going. You might need to shake the pen a few times and scribble on a scrap piece of paper to get the ink going. If the tip is clogged you can sometimes revive it by running the pen under hot water and warming the ink up.

    How do you keep that gloss gel from making your pages stick together? Love your work, thanks for sharing

    • @LauraHornArt
      @LauraHornArt  8 месяцев назад +3

      I usually pop a bit of greaseproof paper in between pages if they are in progress. Once finished, I seal with Dorland's Wax Medium. I like the gloss because it dries really nice and clear but you could use matte gel medium to help prevent sticking.

  • @vanessamurphy7292
    @vanessamurphy7292 8 месяцев назад

    Hi Laura, just looked at what I have in the greasproof paper area, can you tell us what you mean by grease proof paper ? The only one I have isn't very transparent. It's from the supermarket 😏Is there a brand you use?

    • @LauraHornArt
      @LauraHornArt  8 месяцев назад

      Greaseproof paper is called deli paper in the US. It's used primarily for wrapping sandwiches and isn't suitable for putting in the oven. Mine isn't as transparent as I like, so I might try another brand. The one I have at the moment is the Armarda brand from Woolworths. You can also get deli paper in some craft shops that is imported from the US. It's more expensive, though, and pretty similar to what is called "greaseproof paper" in Australia. I hope that helps!

    How do you ventilate your studio? I am wanting to get started using gesso and acrylics and don’t know if I need to be worried about ventilation….

    • @LauraHornArt
      @LauraHornArt  5 часов назад

      You don’t have to worry too much about ventilation with acrylics since they’re water-based, but having a door or window open is always a good idea. Using a fan to improve air circulation can also help, especially if you're working with mediums or varnishes. 😊
