Yes, more…more of everything new and old. This was a beautiful reminder for me as well, to go back through the classes I’ve purchased and revisit things I may have missed or forgotten. Love the new sketchbook - I didn’t realize Arches made a watercolor sketchbook. In my shopping list 😍♥️!!
I didn't realise for a long time either. It feels so lovely to work in. Fantastic for a dedicated watercolour sketchbook where the premium paper can really be experienced. I am less fussy when working in a more mixed-media way, but I love Arches for my watercolours. No paper quite like it!
Hi Nicole, lovely to see you over here. Gosh I relate to your statement "desperately holding onto my art practice via my sketchbook". I am not sure if I would even still be an artist if I hadn't incorporated sketchbooks into my art practice. It's kept me going through some of the troughs. I am feeling like sketchbook work is going to be a key focus of my RUclips channel-more videos on the way! I hope you can enjoy some creative moments in your sketchbook very soon! Laura x
Love this! Your color combos are so lovely, and your way of explaining and sharing are so inviting and engaging. Thank you! Especially love how your trees turned out!
It amazes me how soothing and relaxing it is to just watch you painting swatches! I think the variety of colours also makes a difference to how it stimulates one's spirit!
Would definitely like to see more … the sketchbook so far looks fantastic and appreciate how you’ve explored a brighter palette. The warm orange page particularly caught my eye. Thank you for sharing this video.
Hi Laura I really enjoyed watching this video. All the colors beautiful and you've made beautiful art out of swatching colors an̈d making some simple shapes. Love this whole idea! Thanks for sharing! Susan in Az🥰
Ohhhh, this is going to be fun! Absolutely fabulous sketchbook so far, and how exciting is it to explore new colors and styles! I just bought Jadeite and received it yesterday. Ordered Purpurite too, so going to have fun exploring those. I also finally got the Moonglow so I can take your Watercolor Explorations class. Thanks for admitting that you'd covered a mistake by doing the penwork and the 2nd layer of triangles. You know what? I loved both of those sketches! You have a great talent for knowing just what something needs, I've seen it in your art over the years. The excitement you have about this is very contagious. ♥
Enjoy your new colours! I'm realising more and more that sharing my mistakes and improvisations is helpful and interesting. Maybe even more so than "perfect" art. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the kind words about my art. I appreciate it!
I enjoyed this video so much because you created beautifully works of art just practicing swatches and basic shapes. I find it’s my favorite way to paint as I struggle with painting actual pictures like florals and landscapes. Thank you so much!
I really love your explorations of watercolours especially the brighter colours. Its reminded me to revisit the watercolour explorations I did some time ago. Thank you for sharing, and yes please I'd like to see more of the sketchbook! 😀
Thank you! It felt really good to go back to working in this way, drawing inspo from the Watercolour Explorations class, but also giving it a vibrant and fresh twist. Excited to share more.
Yay! I love brought, vibrant colours! ❤️❤️ I don’t use neutrals. (My browns, greys etc aren’t touched). Love you using these fabulous new popping colours! Xx
Glad you are enjoying this shift, Annie! Up till now I have been the opposite to you; all the brights end up being untouched and the neutrals get such a workout. Change is good though!
I do love your work Laura. I recently bought the DS Primatek set which included the Serpentine Genuine. Some of your colour palettes are very inspiring. The geometric shapes are a nice switch too.
Thank you! I’m enjoying the switch up. The Serpentine Green looks so interesting when dry. Quite like the unusual split in the colours and the earthy granulation. Reminds me a bit of Green Gold, but textural.
Just love this exploration, Laura! I am such a newbie to watercolor, and have had to take a break from my own learning and exploring because...well, life! But this is exactly the kind of video that keeps me connected to all of the possibilities waiting. Saved this to watch again when I can set myself up and paint along. Grateful for all of your content. 🙏❤🙏
Thank you, and I know what you mean about life getting in the way! This is such a lovely approach for when other types of art feel like too much. Enjoy it again when the time is right and keep an eye out for more videos along these lines. I am very much in need of watercolour meditation lately!
I recently busted out some of the granulating and mixed colour DS paints….like serpentine, cascade, etc. I was playing around and went back to put some drops in my swatches and my goodness they transformed with the separation ! I had forgotten and would love to create art just doing this! I bought a piece of art lately that used a separating green in trees with backwashes and water drops and it creates so much depth, interest and texture! I’m addicted to swatching and would love how to make art with that process. Loved this video and can’t wait for your new takes on your previous classes!!
I know exactly what you mean. I haven't been using watercolour as much in the past few years. Coming back to it and seeing those beautiful colour splits and textural effects has me all giddy again!
Thanks Catherine. I am loving the Princeton VelvetTouch range for watercolour. I have a video coming out next week which is all about my favourite watercolour art supplies.
Even your practice sheets are beautiful. 🙂?How do you decide which color combinations you're going to use? Do you use the color wheel? Do you intuit it?
Thank you! Mostly intuition, though I do gather a lot of colour inspiration. I have a couple of RUclips videos that might help: one on how I collect colour palette ideas and one on colour books that I use for inspiration. They are up on my channel.
🌬🎨Thanks for the Idea. When I last chatted with you I bought my first 2 Daniel Smith Smith watercolor's 😊 I ordered 2 more last week Ultramarine blue and Sepia. Next my I will order 2 more any Ideas what colors I should order. I have the 2 I just mentioned and Green Gold and Amethyst Genuine witch I Love 😊 Thank you for all your Help and Inspiration Xo
Sorry to pull the trigger. As I listened further on in your video, you did mention that you were using a round size 8 Princeton velvet touch. I will be getting one of those. It looks lovely. thank you so much for the information

@@LauraHornArt😊 Thank you for your support 😊
Love this idea. What size watercolor brush do you use?
Sorry to pull the trigger. As I listened further on in your video, you did mention that you were using a round size 8 Princeton velvet touch. I will be getting one of those. It looks lovely. thank you so much for the information
Yes, that's the one and it is lovely. A new favourite of mine. Size 8 is my workhorse brush, I use it for so many things.
If you are looking for colors that flow out into others, most of Qor brand paints tend to do this to other brands because they usey a different binder, aquazol, instead of the typical gum arabic.
That's so interesting, I will have to try them. I love colours that flow easily! Thanks for the tip!
If you love UnderSea green, consider stocking up... supply changes coming...
