Not only is this one of the greatest 90's action films, it is one of the greatest action films ever made (in general). It also holds a spot on my list of Top 10 favorite films ever made, and for the following reasons: - The phenomenal soundtrack. - Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in their movie-making prime. - A good chunk (a number of the surfing sequences and a couple brief but unmistakable sunrise/sunset shots at the bottom of a long hillside road where all the cars are parallel parked) of the film was shot on location at Sunset Beach, The Pipeline, and the legendary Waimea Bay along the North Shore of the Island of Oahu - my favorite place in the world, and one where I actually lived for 4 years. This makes it not only one of the greatest films ever to me, but one I'm incredibly sentimental about. - Aside from 'Bodhi's last pipe' at the end of the film - which was obviously largely done with special effects - the action in this film is all 100% real, and the guys did most of their own stunts. - Gary Busey is amazing in this film. - Cool spot cameo from Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. - A seriously compelling story that evolves and unfolds wonderfully from act to act. - The pacing, the action, all of it just makes for one hell of a thrill ride from start to finish. Few people in the world were more excited than I when Shout! announced they were making this...and like yourself, sir...few people were more disappointed in the lack of special features. Great review, sir!
Hey Ken, happy to see you got the PB steelbook and enjoyed the film in all its 4k glory! I designed the outer art for this steelbook and wanted to create something fans would respond to and enjoy. Bummer they didn't add new features for this steelbook release.
Check out No Man’s Land from 1987 with Charlie Sheen it’s basically the same movie but about steeling Porsches instead of robbing banks and surfing. Another great vid btw dude 🤟 I’ve got this steelbook ordered to the uk so hopefully it’ll come soon I’m excited to rewatch it on 4k it’s been a long time !!
Man I thought this was out next year, now I have to scramble for the steelbook. Definitely one of my fave films from the 90s. Johnny Utah is my username for everything.
Can’t say I’m surprised by the lack of special features. SHOUT did virtually the same thing with the ‘Fargo’ release and others. I picked up one (‘Another Country’ where they had even removed a special feature from the DVD version. I just think this company is getting cheaper and lazier with their releases and taking us, their customers, for granted!
Standard 4k just arrived Down Under from the US. Had it on DVD previously so a big upgrade. Not fussed that the Blu ray extras will be region locked. Looking forward to watching with my teenage son to see if he enjoys it or is it just something that has stayed with this old timer since my younger days.😁 Enjoying your reviews.✌️
Thanks for another good review. I appreciate that you share that you are watching this with a sound bar and a subwoofer. Do you have back channel speakers as well? You do a really nice job reviewing without getting too technical
Hi Ken. Great movie and the steel book art work is awesome. Anything with Gary Busey is a must watch. He’s completely bonkers and OTT in most movies 👍😁
The actress you’re talking about is Lori Petty. I love Point Break. I saw it in a theater when it came out in 1991 when I was 20. I was a huge fan of Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze already. It’s a great movie. Sure more Swayze would’ve been great. But I’m happy with his role overall. Keanu is awesome in it. I enjoyed Gary Busey too. I highly recommend it.
great to hear its a nice looking 4k, its one pf my favorite movies so i def want to add it to my 4k collection, that best buy steelbook is beautiful aswel, the design is great, im in the uk so ill have to try grab 1 of those online.
Congratulations Ken, you finally watched the greatest movie of... all time? Well, it's up there for me anyway! Finally a worthy release as far as packaging goes. I'll take it!! Thanks for your thoughts, dude!
Maybe they could have gotten Kathryn Bigelow to talk about it with Keanu. I don’t think I’ve seen Bigelow direct a movie since “Detroit”. Another 90s movie she directed that desperately needs a blu-ray or 4K release is Strange Days. It was written and produced by James Cameron. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Tom Sizemore, and Juliette Lewis. It runs a little long, but it’s worth a watch. If found footage films are not your bag, it may not be for you. It’s not per se a found footage film, but many scenes give you the perspective of experiencing things from first person view. It was not successful at the box office, and sometimes can be a tough watch but it’s a very underrated film. Another Bigelow film that needs a 4K film is the western vampire movie Near Dark. That one stars Adrian Pasdar, Lance Henriksen, and Bill Paxton. It came out a year after Aliens.
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 she’s definitely not the star of this and I’d say Geena Davis is the star of league of their own but obviously she has the second biggest part. Tank girl is Lori petty all the way for better or worse. The lady is nuttier than squirrel poop even by Hollywood standards I guess is why you don’t see much of her
Wow Ken, that's what I would call a really bad hair day! I never go over 2 inches because I would look just like that (or even worse). Glad you enjoyed Point Break. Definitely one of the best action films of the 90ies. And it shows once more what a great and talented director Kate Bigelow is. Holds up pretty well and is far better than most CGI crap today. Yeah, I do aggree with you that a Dolby Atmos track would have benefitted the movie with all the great action setpieces.
if you compare the 4k and old bluray the skin tones on the character faces are much improved on the bluray all the characters faces looked pale even in the sun they now look like there alive with color and not in a morgue
This looks great, but i cannot buy it cos the blu-ray disc is Region Locked to A, hardly hair to us across the pond, anyway its supposed to be coming out in Europe soon, different artwork from shout factory, coming june/july , 4k steelbook.
Hey, can you didn't mention Anthony Keaton from Red Hot chili peppers and his tribal tattoo on his back it was a huge major influence on tattooing in America and culture in general everyone had tribal tattoos after that, and then tattoos, became more and more common after this movie
Haha im glad you picked up on the fast furious rip off. Nick cannon also did a rip off movie of it as well. I also never saw the Point Break remake from the 2000s with the skydiving. Cuz im pretty sure it isnt as good as original. And the girl was Tank Girl lol.
I did see the 2015 Point Break a couple of months ago and I thought it was pretty good. I was expecting to hate it because I meant to watch the original but it was a fun watch.
@midlevelmedia I agree this is my number 2 movie of all time I would have loved a new interview with Keanu or Lori or something like that but I'm honestly more bummed about no new atmos track.
@midlevelmedia it wasn't bad, imo. It wasn't a masterpiece but a fun watch. I expected to hate it because I meant to watch the original but ended up liking it.
That Steelbook is hideous but I was so glad Shout Factory did this movie justice, to me this is the ultimate dude film, it’s fun, it’s action packed, it’s got heart. Just such a great transfer from Shout. I’m ok with the not so many special features, it is what it is, at this point all I care about is the movie itself.
At just over 10 mins, talking to America again, wanna talk to all of us and not your American fans, kinda glad i never bought this, if Shout factory are gonna be so lazy
Still need "Gone in 60 Seconds", "Con Air", "Broken Arrow", "Swordfish" etc So many movies need 4k transfer.
True, but I'm just grateful that we're getting face off soon 🙏 also wtf Ken, how have you never seen this before. Point break is a classic!

This movie is a lot of fun. I always enjoyed it and got the steelbook and am looking forward to watching it again soon.

Utah! get me two!
Point Break is the best movie ever made...
Its still amazing!
I know isn't wild!?
I agree, but what about Heat with Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino?
I love Point Break, Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze are awesome in it.
When is the roundtable for November?
This is my favourite movie ever (hence my Channel graphic). I hope they release this in the UK. Thanks for the review
Lori Petty is the actress.
Already shipped out Woop Woop 😊
I wonder how many people purchased the 4K version in the past of the remake, and were sorely disappointed when it was delivered

Point Break is the movie that got me to jump out of a perfectly good airplane in 1991.
Your first time watching this movie! What a treat!!!
It's ok transfer. After seeing Silver Bullet 4K it did not seem so amazing
Hi Ken. Great movie and the steel book art work is awesome. Anything with Gary Busey is a must watch. He’s completely bonkers and OTT in most movies 👍😁
So glad you enjoyed this one! Love this film and was excited to hear your thoughts. Proud of you Ken 😂
Great movie

Please, I beg of you... I need the new audit video. I don't think I can wait much longer.
What is the difference between this 4k version of Point Break and original 4k.⁉️
Point Break is easily one of my all-time favorite films.
That was a pretty good rendition of , "I am an F B I agent!" Made me laugh!
Sick!...gotta get me another steelbook!!!
Congratulations Ken, you finally watched the greatest movie of... all time? Well, it's up there for me anyway! Finally a worthy release as far as packaging goes. I'll take it!! Thanks for your thoughts, dude!
Roadhouse!
That your fav?? Roadhouse rules, Mr. Moody! But this one totally takes the cake for yours truly.
Good movie and ultimate dude film but for sure not the GOAT.
love Point Break. I got the steelbook as well and it looks amazing. I always wished that Johnny Utah was the main character in Speed.
No movie has ever had enough Swayze.
Ghost... Dirty Dancing?
@@frommatorav1 Nope...nope.
Road House nuff said!
I never watch special features, just watch the movie, nothing else

It’s in my top 5 movies of all time
Mine copy will be coming tomorrow.!!!
As somebody said the actress is Lori petty. Probably the biggest starring role with her is tank girl with (I believe) a young Naomi watts and ice T
Naw this and A League of Her Own put her on the map but she disappeared quick.
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 she’s definitely not the star of this and I’d say Geena Davis is the star of league of their own but obviously she has the second biggest part. I think you just said you never have seen this movie until the 4K steelbook so why would you have a blu ray of that movie?
Lori Petty is a legend. Tank girl, Prey for rock n roll, poetic justice, in the army now.
Yes she is.

I was poor but Point break, was always on t.v. remember a few times it came on
Love this movie. Has anyone seen the remake? Wondering if it’s worth checking out.
The remake is garbage.
Watch the actual remake called Fast and the Furious.
if you compare the 4k and old bluray the skin tones on the character faces are much improved on the bluray all the characters faces looked pale even in the sun they now look like there alive with color and not in a morgue
Wait so which version is the better version? Reads like you said they both had better colours.
Wasn't there a 4K of Point Break done in 2016 by Warner Bros.?
That was the remake.
I got this but haven't played it on 4k yet 👍
👍
This looks great, but i cannot buy it cos the blu-ray disc is Region Locked to A, hardly hair to us across the pond, anyway its supposed to be coming out in Europe soon, different artwork from shout factory, coming june/july , 4k steelbook.
Looks awesome!
I'm still keeping my original 2001 DVD that was released by 20th Century Fox, as treasure.
As you should

They both ripped off 1987s No Man’s Land with Charlie Sheen it’s just Point Break did it better
Haha thanks for the info. I never saw No Man's Land. I think ive heard of it tho👍🏽
@@Chris-hr2uj it’s a brilliant movie you should check it out 👍
I did see the 2015 Point Break a couple of months ago and I thought it was pretty good. I was expecting to hate it because I meant to watch the original but it was a fun watch.
Ah ok maybe I will give it a try
Lori Petty was Tank Girl and also co star to Gina Davis in League of Their Own…
Co-written by James Cameron... back when he was married to Bigelow and could do no wrong.
I wasn't that impressed with the new transfer. To me, it was just okay.
Listen to She's like the wind by Patrick Swayze killer song
Lack of special features was due to the actor strike i believe
I get it, but there's other labels where that doesn't seem to be a problem.
@midlevelmedia I agree this is my number 2 movie of all time I would have loved a new interview with Keanu or Lori or something like that but I'm honestly more bummed about no new atmos track.
Just don't ever watch the remake...ill just say that
I have zero interest. Lol
@midlevelmedia it wasn't bad, imo. It wasn't a masterpiece but a fun watch. I expected to hate it because I meant to watch the original but ended up liking it.
Sorry Ken you grew up sheltered lol
Maybe because you were 6!!
Spot on, but those FastFurious and FaceOff movies are utterly SHIT. F&F completely cloned Point Break
