I've waited for a proper release of this for ages. And I have it..finally. I was just as mesmerized watching it again as I was 30 years ago. It needed the 4K treatment. Most I has spent for a 4K? Yep...worth it? ABSOLUTELY!!! Great review!!
This was my most anticipated 4K release since the format came out. Still have my Criterion JFK box set on Laserdisc! Fitting that the JFK box set in 4K would be my last ever purchase at Best Buy. Bought 2. Now I just need Nixon on 4K….
I think this is Stone's finest film. The ultimate paranoid thriller that stabs at the heart of Americana. Don Delillo's super novel "Libra" about Lee Harvey Oswald was going to be adapted into a film, but they pulled the plug once this masterwork came out. Thinking of double dipping.
One of the best parts of owning physical media is having the deleted scenes and other extras on them unlike streaming which only shows the movie. Long live physical media!
This is an excellent release the best it has ever looked. The new features are very welcome. Shout did this film proud. John Candy and Walter Matthau and Kevin Bacon as well featured. the trial did Garrisons career no favours. Oliver Stone has said there wasn’t enough money for the theatrical 4k in this project. It’s in one of the special features the flashbacks were shot that way deliberately different formats were used.
One of my favorite movies ever and I’m so glad it was released properly. The 4k looked amazing and it brought me back to when I was a young teenager and owning this on VHS and watching it for the first time. Great job to shout factory!
Great review Ken 👍 hopefully this will be released in the UK without being region locked to USA. Thanks for all the reviews and news over the last year, looking forward to more in 2024 Happy New Year to you and your family.
@MidLevelMedia you have seen The Warriors, right? Wel THAT is a nice and eleborate packaging! This is content wise great, despite the lack of the theatrical cut in 4K, but it is simply 3 cases in a slipcase, right? No discs neatly packaged in a fold out cover with book in it or poster or even a soundtrack. That is my description of a great packaging. Loved the review though and might put this on my list.
I saw this film in the theater It's Theatrical release in 1991 It has been one of my favorites for many years and I was quite excited when I heard shout was doing the work for This Release I absolutely love the transfer however They missed one of the specials that came on the original standard DVD it was a separate disc that covered the JFK incident. And I felt this box set was too Chunky and that they easily could have compacted things a little bit more. Aside from the size And the difficulty with how much space it takes up I do like it
Hey Ken, saw this when I was traveling in Dallas in 91. I had the cab driver take me through Dailey plaza on the way to the airport. I do prefer the theatrical cut. I really wish they would always include both versions on 4K and not leaving one or the other out. after viewing the theatrical, cut many times over the years, I was excited to watch the Directors cut or extended whatever it actually is called and I was disappointed didn’t really add much to the story. Made a pretty long movie even longer so I’m not sure if I’m gonna pick this up or not and as you know, unfortunately shout titles usually don’t drop that much in price😢 great review as always, and have a great new year!!
I just ordered this mainly for the new transfer. It's a shame they didn't put all the past special features or the new JFK Revisited stuff, which was from Shout Factory as well. The only thing I can think of is if those older features have since been disproven so are no longer valid. But the JFK Revisited was recently done with updated information & not on here. It's like, why didn't Psycho Legacy go on any of the Scream Factory releases or the Arrow Video box set? So keep that 50th Anniversary Ultimate Edition Blu-ray set if you have it and get the JFK Revisited if you don't. As for why they didn't do the 4K for the theatrical cut, well Oliver Stone stated they had to choose as that's all the budget will allow and hr chose the director's cut even though he knows many prefer the theatrical cut. But the Blu-ray is a remaster.
Hey I’m just wondering do you have to most recent Resident evil box set that came out on 4k to review cuz I’ve been thinking about getting it but I wanna know how the transfers are
It is a good movie, but there some college history teachers out there that don't like the movie. They say most of the stuff in the movie are just Oliver Stone's own views and not really much to history. The movie is also based in parts on, On the Trail of the Assassins: One Man's Quest to Solve the Murder of President Kennedy by Jim Garrison and Crossfire: The Plot That Killed Kennedy by Jim Marrs.
Still a great movie regardless. The way the film is executed is a masterclass in cinematography and editing from the standpoint of memory and piecing together the forensics of something that's tangled up in classified information, whether that info is classified for shady reasons or not. Plus, Jim Garrison was a real person and his investigations into that case is real. The movie's about him and his team and their perspective at the time as they were gaining information.
Nothing, he’s just old and the last few things he did like the Vladimir Putin interviews and the David Snowden movie weren’t really commercial successes in the current political climate in the US.
The grassy knoll location for the shooter may itself be a misdirection. There may have been shooters there, but the actual kill shot may not have come from there. The book depository may not have had a shooter.
Putting all the discs in 3 different cases? that's the dumbest thing I ever saw... People want slim boxes on the shelf, not unnecessarily cumbersome things that are 3x wider than they need to be for no reason whatsoever!
I really liked the movie a lot. Being an old fart, I lived through that day and followed up many of the theories of who killed JFK, how and why. I thought the movie was very powerful, but thought some of the parts (like Donald Sutherland's fictional character) were pedantic and unnecessary, only there to feed the paranoia.
Jim Garrison was a total fruitcake, and has been proven as such by any number of historians. I'm amazed to see that you apparently buy into Stone's bizarre conspiracy scenario, for which he has never offered the slightest support or proof, despite having more than 30 years to do so. JFK certainly represents some very good film making, but as far as historical accuracy is concerned, it is utterly worthless.
If you still buy the “official” story as described by the Warren Commission in 2024 then I am afraid you’re too far gone. The evidence is overwhelming that Lee Harvey Oswald was a paid asset for the CIA/FBI. Also, the term “conspiracy theory” entered the popular American conscience after the dissemination of a 1967 CIA document quite literally titled “CIA instructions to media assets”.
I've waited for a proper release of this for ages. And I have it..finally. I was just as mesmerized watching it again as I was 30 years ago. It needed the 4K treatment. Most I has spent for a 4K? Yep...worth it? ABSOLUTELY!!! Great review!!
Robert Richardson's cinematography was bound to be a beast in 4k! Now time to release No Country for Old Men
This was my most anticipated 4K release since the format came out. Still have my Criterion JFK box set on Laserdisc! Fitting that the JFK box set in 4K would be my last ever purchase at Best Buy. Bought 2. Now I just need Nixon on 4K….

platoon, wall street. >>>
Stone thinks it’s his godfather. And Nixon is his part ii.
Top 5 fave film. Great transfer! I just wish the theatrical cut was also in 4k but I'm happy
What is the difference. I'm sure I've watched them both as I've watched it many times. Couldn't tell you the difference tho.
Now @MidLevelMedia let’s hope Stones does a similar 4K release of Born on the fourth of July in 2024!

It's one of my favorites!!!!
All versions should be 4k
Outstanding movie and great boxset. The run time didn't seem 3 plus hrs though
They should have used the “Branching” method that was used for DVD films having alternate versions.
Movie had a great score
Nice package, but no theatrical cut in 4K makes no sense and feels incomplete.
I’ll wait for a sale.
Let’s get Nixon on 4K now. Especially directors cut
@MidLevelMedia you have seen The Warriors, right? Wel THAT is a nice and eleborate packaging!

totally agree - crappy packaging that deserved something much more refined and compact!

Lovely set
My favourite film.❤

it's one of my all time favorite films that I've watched the least. I've only seen it 3 or 4 times. It gives me nightmares.
Looks like an awesome boxset, but I couldn't care less about JFK. I wish they would do this for some of their horror releases.
Bravo 👏

Wow!
I’m fine with just getting the Directors cut.
I’m 52 years old and I remember I used to love the gremlins movies a lot. Do you know if they’re ever going to do that whole series in 4K?
Warner Bros did the first one, but not the 2nd yet
@@midlevelmedia - oh cool. I’ll definitely get that when it comes out again.
Hey I’m just wondering do you have to most recent Resident evil box set that came out on 4k to review cuz I’ve been thinking about getting it but I wanna know how the transfers are
I wish the Highlander steelbook was 4k. I missed that one. I hope Lion's Gate changes their minds.
Will the price drop?

Hasn’t most of the conspiracy elements of this movie been debunked?
Never seen the movie. But jfk was shot by the driver too
Pretty much
@@TheNotoriousNemo huh? Lol the driver of what

Yes. There was no conspiracy (except by Oswald). The movie is very misleading.
Is it hard box?
What happened to Oliver Stone? He all but disappeared and he was onenof my fav Dirs back in the day.
Nothing, he’s just old and the last few things he did like the Vladimir Putin interviews and the David Snowden movie weren’t really commercial successes in the current political climate in the US.

I do have this 4k box 📦 set and it's brilliant 👏
Worth every penny. You have no idea on how much money goes into restoring these movies.
Chunky box. Lol 🤣
I hope you have a happy and prosperous New Year 2024!🥳
it annoys me that it didn't come with a digital code
Boutique releases never do
This type of box set I mentioned to scream factory, I wish they would do for there horror media, fuck JFK no pun Ken dope review.
Nah JFK 4k over horror films every time.
Putting all the discs in 3 different cases? that's the dumbest thing I ever saw...

Bro missed all historical events

I believe everything I see in movies. Next thing you're gonna tell me is Luke didn't actually blow up the Death Star. Pffft

@@midlevelmediaLol… Nice comeback.
I guess I'm not so amazed after all.@@midlevelmedia
Educational? Geez, dude.
Oswald killed Kennedy and he acted alone.
Even before this movie, I've never believed that.
Oswald killed Kennedy and Dewey beat Truman too!
You really think so?
Explain
Daniel ( Mr Dumass )you don’t know what your talking about
