A few years ago, on a red-eye from LAX to MCO, my husband surprised me and upgraded me to “First Class” on a Delta flight. The legroom was no better than Premium Economy and the inflight service consisted of Sun Chips and whole bananas or apples. It was nothing short of shocking. The return day flight, trans-con, non-stop was no different. Chips and whole fruit. That was it. Never again.
I rather suspect it was flaking, rather than wear. Then, maybe, sub-standard paint or a build-out manufacturer who truly didn't give a chit. New aircraft, new owner, new crew.
It could be due to the constant running of passengers bags or clothing as they get out or into their seats. I work as an airline crew as well and I know such things happen.
Buying a business class seat and not getting meal service feels like cost cutting to the EXTREME. That's crazy. I love your videos, amazing humour, great quality production and overall really enjoyable viewing.
Not a business class seat. A domestic first class seat where the airline upgauged the metal to accommodate the increased load for a special event. This is regular plain-ol' USA domestic first class. None of the big three serve meals in first after 8pm.
what a rare opportunity to experience an A350 on a domestic route. I'm sorry that the flight sucked. You are a funny guy and your humor adds a lot to the production
Dear Tiezheng, Thank you very much for all your videos. I just wanted to say that we appreciate them, and although they are sporadic, please do not sacrifice the quality, humor, and dynamic for more frequent posting. We love the storytelling, sound design, and interpretation of the situation. Best wishes from Romania
The constant refreshing on RUclips has pleased the gods and has finally rewarded me with a new video from you! Also, I do hope that you will mention that the A220 was known as the C-Series and even under its new umbrella, she was designed in Canada. A lot of us ex or current Bombardier workers will never forget this Canadian bird that will fly through the skies for the decades to come. Finally, if you pass by YUL, do stop at a bar for a water and tonic made with Romeo Water!
Hey there. Yeah, of course I will, myself having interned there and seen all the hard work, dedication, and pride that went into that programme. I’m working on the video now, but with classes and work, I’m taking my time as I want to do it justice. Thanks for the kind words!
While inexcusably bad, you experienced a run-of-the-mill US domestic flight on a tight/irregular schedule (e.g., CES week) departing late in the day from a major hub. This is not an uncommon experience for frequent fliers on narrow bodies. Those 737s and A320s get pretty filthy by the afternoon after constantly being flipped and barely cleaned. It looks like they used the same treatment on this massive A350 after a long flight from ICN or HND. In the US, in the age of the online travel site where price is the only way to differentiate, every carrier is basically a low cost carrier on domestic flights. What was really pathetic was how seemingly indifferent the crew was to your concerns. Delta's A350 product on long haul service is generally quite good. There are some pretty solid crews out of MSP and especially DTW. I regularly fly to Korea and often prefer this product to other carriers. It has the best hard product (e.g., private suites, quiet plane, good cabin air quality / conditioning), a good-but-inconsistent soft product, and it's operationally reliable. I sleep really well on it. I just wish they would refine the soft product a little bit. It has a lot of things going for it. The meal service doesn't drag on too long, catering is good (they partner with local asian restaurants), and I especially like the beverages. The service, cleanliness, quietness, and professionalism is nowhere near the level it is on the Korean or Japanese carriers. I think this is hard to grasp for Americans/Canadians and even Europeans. Western culture is so much more laid back, independent, and casual.
Hey there, really appreciate you taking the time to write all that - and I agree. Perhaps my perspective is biased, but I do feel like that there is a disparity between some of the airlines. I’ve flown JetBlue, Alaska, Virgin America (rip), American and United domestically, all in business class (or what Americans refer to as first class). JetBlue is hands down the best experience overall. Alaska and United are solid, and American can be a mixed bag. Dirty cabins by the end of the day is something I come to except, things in the cabin breaking is also not uncommon but I’ve never been neglected for food on a 3 hour + domestic flight before. United always serves at least a plated, cold meal on flight longer than two hours, America has the decency to give you a sandwich and drink. Imo United has the the best service. That’s probably a skewed perspective though because I had global services last year and pretty much only fly to Texas or long haul. Those Texan crews are fantastic. Delta threw me off guard. I heard a lot of good things about them, and having not flown with them since I was really small, I had high expectations. My experience doesn’t reflect their international service, which I’m sure is great, but it does make me want to avoid them when it comes to domestic flights.
Vicarious Voyager I was surprised to learn about the whole meal service thing. I used to fly between DTW and LAX on a weekly basis. Sometimes I would connect through SLC to another nearby airports in Southern California. There was always meal service. Perhaps this segment was just long enough for service. To be honest, I got so tired of “meh” catering that I wouldn’t only eat on early morning flights or if I didn’t have time to elsewhere. What is domestic flying like in Canada? What are the 2-4 hour flights like compared to US? Is it better?
Up here, with the two bigs carriers, Air Canada and WestJet, things are considerably better. Speaking for AC, you get a light meal on flights longer than 30 minutes, and a full hot meal on flights longer than 2 hours. On cross-country wide body flights (which are common) you get four course meals. If you’re ever hungry, they have hot snacks and sandwiches. I made a video about AC’s transcon service. The catch is, however, air fare up here is a bit more expensive than in the US.
@@VicariousVoyager You are correct about the disparity of US airlines domestically which is fair. When I lived in the US some airlines sucked while some are okay-ish. The worse one I took was the now defunct Eastern Airlines from Miami to Atlanta. It was an old airplane (never bothered check what kind) and sounded so rickety I was afraid it might fall apart. Once I took TWA which was 30 minutes late from St Louis to San Francisco. However they made up for the delay by cancelling the fee for booze and headphones. Two US Air flight attendants once offered to help change my ticket to San Jose so I didn't have to fly into San Francisco once we landed in San Diego. The bad news was I had to pick up my luggage at SFO! Oh well. My flight was from Miami-Tampa-Tampa-to San Diego-San Diego to SFO I was stupidly being cheap.
That cracked me up!! Congrats, you took Delta's nostalgia flight, when they take you back to the sadly memorable days of the airline being utterly shit in every possible way....
Wow, I always thought Delta was the best american carrier, but I guess that's only with their international service. Domestic first class passengers don't even get lounge access on a cross country flight, that's such a dealbreaker, also, no food, not even sandwich on a 3-hour flight, unacceptable. If all those things that happened to you happened to me, I would be demanding my money back. Once again a really good review though, I love how you tell a story instead of just sticking a camera under your seat. Your videos are also really well edited, it must take a lot of time. But this definitely quality over quantity.
I remember flying Delta when this standard of service and poorly maintained interior was the norm. It was also the era when their sandwiches could kill a person and not by ingestion. You could actually kill someone by hitting them with it...
I took Delta One from Atlanta to Seoul and tbh that was the best flight I've ever been on (but I don't travel often so take that with a grain of salt lol). But the seat was comfy, the FAs were SO KIND and truly went OUT of their way to make me feel comfortable and well taken care of. I talked to one FA for damn near 3 hours straight because I was soooo nervous moving to another country and she was the nicest lady. Never had an issue with the bathrooms or water dripping on me. And we were definitely well fed. I know that this flight was bad, but I highly encourage you to try Delta One one more time and go international! :) EDIT: Ah, I see someone else has commented something along these same lines and I've read your response to that. :) But will still leave my comment here for others if they find it^^
First-time viewer of your channel,...and absolutely a new subscriber! Great video, your commentary is witty, observant, and you do some great cinematography.
and 23 min vs 25 min with the tram??....don't think so. Tram is way faster than walking even when using the moving walkways. MSP might not be the most efficient layout but it's not that bad.
It was tough to see Delta in a tough spot on this one and your concerns are 100% valid. As our home airline, I always hope for them to do better, not worse and the ball was certainly dropped here. That said, I encourage you to give them another shot one of their pacific international routes when things are a little less like world war Z. I think on these routes Delta shines the brightest. Eventually, service improvements made in that sector will make their way down to domestic.
Great review sir.., your humor is almost as thrilling as the content. I must say, considering all the awards "Darling DL" is racking up over other N Amer carriers, I was astounded this flight turned sour. No meals or access to the premium lounge, well those are no secretes (as you correctly show/point on their website). However, a dirty cabin, "urinating ceiling", :) and no soap...., that's a big oops on DL's behalf. Most troubling is the dismissive remarks by cabin crew when you pointed out some of these issues. Since I wasn't on the flight, I'll withhold further judgment -- as there could have been a more urgent matter (e.g., medical or cabin emergency) which required immediate attention. :) Otherwise, telling a premium customer to "check back later"? Ah, not really the best answer one would expect from an airline who has grabbed some pretty high customer service scores. Curious, has/did DL reached out to you regarding this flight? If yes, we would appreciate a follow-up. Over all, excellent (and humorous) review, please keep'um coming!
Fantastic review! I'm really glad I found your channel! Entertaining and honest. I also like to stay positive on my very own flight/travel channel, especially agreeing with you that it's already a privilege to travel, and then even more in Business or First Class. But sometimes there's some real disappointment and it's mostly about (the lack of) service. Your flight - that was really unbelievable how many things went wrong. And very funny/ entertaining to watch at the same time! 100 thumbs up! Chris
Great review, as usual. I can't believe the condition of the aircraft, particularly since it is new. Also, I am appalled at the 'meal' for a 3 hour flight in first. Unacceptable. I always appreciate your humour.
On another note, they could give u like a limited opening to the lounge if u are on one of the after 8 departures, just so you could've had a snack at the very least.
I’m getting on in years and after a lifetime of flying … in the last fifteen only in business or first…I never go on a plane (or anywhere, really, without food). I’m usually traveling with a companion and generally I’ll bring bagels with cream cheese, or ham and cheese, or something that’s not a huge mess. I have this terrible fear of getting hungry. And oftentimes I’m not crazy about the food options. I also bring a a giant cup of Cheerios, some Kind bars, etc. I’ve been on enough flights that have been seriously delayed due to crowded runways and sometimes hours can pass…or a weather diversion. We are always grateful that I remember to pack food despite my traveling companions invariably telling me I’m weird. I’m also quite thin so go figure. (Also always buy a large bottle of water after security. It’s amazing the variety in service.) Oddly short flights between countries on the continent always serve a delicious small meal. Sadly my platinum Amex rewards only dumps miles into Delta - ugh. Generally flights across the US, even from JFK to LAX have awful planes and poor service compared to transatlantic flights.
Yeah, I have always been fond of saying, that the one thing Delta excels at is telling themselves how wonderful they are. We live in Ecuador and travel often between Quito and Minneapolis so Delta is kinda baked in. Always business. Would you believe 2 RT Biz seats UIOMSPUIO does not grant you sky club access? "Because Sir, people traveling to Central America do not qualify for our Sky Club. Only South America." Er, uh huh? We traveled on AF in Business last Oct UIOCDG. It was a treat. Then returning, after flying 8 hours out of CDG we were turned back to CDG due to a country wide strike in Ecuador. Rebooked (after 3 days) CDGATLUIO with a 6 day lay over in Atlanta due to the ongoing strike in Ecuador. (More Amazon opportunities) Long story short transferring from AF back to DL was a downer. I am not such huge fan of Delta One. Crappy food (yes at least we got some) in a cubicle. Glad I found you. I think you will be successful with your vlog. I spit out "water" when you made the "ottoman" comment on Turkish airlines.
The last time I flew from LAX to PHL for Christmas with my family, it was in Delta "First Class." Like you, the first thing that unpleasantly surprised me was that Lounge access was not included with my ticket. My flights (both ways) were pretty much on par with yours.
I heard they got complaints about the lounges not being exclusive enough, so you can’t get in unless you’re flying DeltaOne for an international flight. You can’t even buy a day pass anymore.
Feel your pain. I was cursed with living in Minneapolis, the Delta hub for 7 years and flew every week on business - flying home to Europe was enhanced by flying to ORD and boarding a non-US airline - Delta really does suck. You have my sympathy, that was taking a hit for the team.
I love listening to your voice and watching your videos. I wait for the perfect moment when I could use the word "ubiquity" in a conversation. This Delta flight is icky. I hope you took 3 showers after this flight.
Wow! Did you take a flight from Minneapolis? Awesome! Minneapolis is an eminently popular and known Delta hub. Hopefully, you had fun on your slight Minnesota visit!
I must say, as a fellow medical professional, your video is one of the most humorous and informative I've come across. I know what I will be doing the rest of my weekend. Good luck in all of your studies, it's a long road but a worthy one!
Okay I was dragging my ass around RUclips coach and I stumbled on your posts. Extraordinary comes to mind. Informative, Intelligent and funny you bet. The only surprise was you actually expected good service on an "American" flight. That went out in 1969.
You should try the Delta One A350 International Service to get a real insight on it. I was on that exact aircraft you flew a in Sept 2019. DTW-ICN and same one for a return.
Thank you for you video. It is informative and entertaining. You can't go wrong with either the 787 or the A350. It has always been the soft products that I have issues with when flying with any US airlines. The feeling of dealing with customer service erks me the most: from reservation - cabin staff. ---- too many Karens. :). I am talking in GENERAL.. There are exemption to this. :)
I love the way you tell a story. Be critical its not a "privlige" to fly BC its a service you or your company (that cares about your comfort and wellbeing) pay good money for. Id leave Minneapolis in the winter as well orrrr any time really. 😂
Wow .. the panel in your Suite looks rough. I have flown in Delta One on the 777-200LR a few times and fortunately (I guess) my Suite was always nice and clean. It's interesting that you only got a small water bottle, which is a standard in domestic FC. I got the larger Evian. It's disappointing they didn't serve full Dinner in Delta One. That's bad. It looks like they operated this flight as a standard domestic FC service.
Well I have flown Delta a lot and it is definitely hit and miss. I will have to say back in the 90’s when you were just a baby the international flights were wonderful. I personally feel that interstate flights have never impressed me ever since 9-11. I can only image what Covid has done to travel. It was bad enough when we had to be padded down, remove shoes, put items into buckets to be scanned. Now temperatures checked etc, ugh Really I miss the good ole days you just showed up and got on the plane. 70’s 80’s and 90’s were great times to travel really hassle free and wonderful service. Now You get treated like a prisoner. Guess that is why I drive these days. Enjoyed your sleeping decent lol.
I checked the Website you pay 700$ for this flight and what you get is no meal, no lounge, awful drinks and a desinteressed crew. Wow. I think I am glad that i have Lufthansas short haul business class where the service is pretty much always on point and you know what you will get. I heard Delta was bad, i didnt thought it was so bad

I'm sure you get this a lot but do you have any guides/tutorials for your airport animations? Going back through your old videos and the quality's here since day 1 :^)

Great review, as usual. I can't believe the condition of the aircraft, particularly since it is new. Also, I am appalled at the 'meal' for a 3 hour flight in first. Unacceptable. I always appreciate your humour.
Smallest bottle known to man -
I am here for the one liners
On another note, they could give u like a limited opening to the lounge if u are on one of the after 8 departures, just so you could've had a snack at the very least.
I always thought US airlines were garbage but this video put that cherry on top
First video of yours I have seen, wonderful content!!
You are hilarious!!! I’m a fan. Well done
You are one absolutely hilarious man! Gg to you!
2:45 on the end of concourse G, there is a skybridge that connects the end of G concourse to the middile of the C concourse.
Literally laughed out when watching! Such a great vlog to watch!
Love your posts with the exception of your jabs at the U.S.
Just discovered this channel and I love it!!! Funny too! ✈️👍🏻
!Hola! Muy buen video, eres un buen contador de historias/ cronista. Gracias.
loving your content, man! You can consider doing standup in the future lol
Great review! Love your humor!
Another well-made video!
That rt arm console was really beat up !
Not "beat up." Poorly applied paint that flaked; usually happens when the underlying surface is not properly prepared to receive the top coat.
His face at 18:10
Finally, some good fucking food
truly great work! love to watch your content :)
Delta, I'm not surprised
Love your dry humor.
Okay I was dragging my ass around RUclips coach and I stumbled on your posts.
Extraordinary comes to mind. Informative, Intelligent and funny you bet.
The only surprise was you actually expected good service on an "American" flight.
That went out in 1969.
Turbolence helps you sleep? Never thought I would hear it, but exactly the same with me.
Same!!
Super Video
Nice flight report. You’ve been to snowy and extremely cold Minnesota.
You should try the Delta One A350 International Service to get a real insight on it. I was on that exact aircraft you flew a in Sept 2019. DTW-ICN and same one for a return.
It's water Mom!! Lol..ok..I giggled out loud at that
Cut backs are happening everywhere . Enjoyed your commentary
My new fav channel
Thank you for you video. It is informative and entertaining. You can't go wrong with either the 787 or the A350. It has always been the soft products that I have issues with when flying with any US airlines. The feeling of dealing with customer service erks me the most: from reservation - cabin staff. ---- too many Karens. :). I am talking in GENERAL.. There are exemption to this. :)
Awesome reviews, recent subscriber! Looking forward to lots more.
This was *not* a Delta One flight. Just a domestic first class flight on up-gauged metal.
I really like the map you use to show the flight path. 5/5 !!
"Tram... a worthy, $36M investment that cuts the 25 minute commute on foot down to a paltry 23 mins" LMAO!!!!🙂🤣🤣
At least it was nice to end that very horrible long day at the Delano, one of my fav’s in Vegas
Man the brushed metal surfaces looks very worn out for being so new. Also i like the dry humor. Funny video
Not "worn out." The paint chipped, either sub-par paint or improperly prepared surface.
Eating that sandwich was pure gold. Ha ha
Now
You get treated like a prisoner.
You young sir, an absolute GENIUS and a must view for any discerning #AvGeek. Quality in abundance in every area of everything you deliver for our entertainment! #ThankYou
Turning the seat into bed at 13:15... I laughed so much😂😂😂
I'm sure you get this a lot but do you have any guides/tutorials for your airport animations? Going back through your old videos and the quality's here since day 1 :^)
nice trip report! No soap at that time was fine, but this time, no soap in toilet can cause big trouble
That's Delta for ya! Been like that since??? 1926?
What terrible condition of the side space around the seat adjustment area is really surprising considering it's nearly a brand new aircraft.
I am not a frequent flier.. Ok I have only travelled three routes sitting on a plane.. But I love his videos so much that I have almost finished watching all.. Please make videos on something else also.. Or else fly at least every week.. 🙂🙂
