but the point still stands. The fact that everyone agrees, speaks of our ideals in the making. In war everything is on the line, including our lives, which means we disregard things we strive for in idealistic fashion. In video games though, you are not that desperate, because: 1.) Numbers are not a factor and you are responsible for your loss. 2.) your life is not on the line. What you said is true, but the mentioned ideals which we agree upon still stand. What Core a gaming said in the video makes sense and it actually works.

Why would anyone laugh it off after the person intentionally wanted to be a dick to the other person. That's a person punching someone in the face and then telling them to respect them for doing it.
Not gonna lie, the Fighting Game genre is my favourite genre, and to have an entire You Tube channel dedicated to it, with also such high quality, is like a Nerd's dream come true.
Hey I've been binge watching your videos for a few days now, and I've gotta say you've got me legitimately interested in giving fighting games another try. I think the biggest reason they turned me off was because they just seemed impossible to play, but looking back I think it's because I just didn't understand them. I think I'll try again with the 1st injustice since I already have that game. Thanks for giving me an insight on a part of gaming I initially never thought about. Keep up the good work on the channel!
In fairness, fighting games have only gotten more and more complex over the years. Great for skill fiends and the dedicated - everybody else not so much. I like skill, but I'm not good enough to play much of anything (used to play the earliest Streets Fighters, Samurai Showdown, Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, King of Fighters for fun, used to know the movesets for pretty much every major game from 88-2004) but I also hate games like DC vs Mortal Kombat - to me they are shitty broken games with no flow to them, and no depth. I used to love fighting games, but now I find no joy in them at all - they have all gotten so complicated they just turn me off. My fav is/was King of fighters 98 - again for fun - so many games old and new are "broken" for tournament play, but still great games in their own right.
I used to think that Mortal Kombat and Injustice were the best fighting games. Please believe me when I say that they won't do much for you. Go pick up Street Fighter 4, it's a good place to start, and getting good at it, makes you better at all fighting games.
Protip: if you are right handed, try with a left-handed stick. It seems counter-intuitive, but take a look at ruclips.net/video/LwyKx8TvRcE/видео.html. I am terrible at traditional fighting games, and I was able to do somewhat better when I took my fight stick and just spun it 180'. Yes moving the stick left moved my character to the right, but I still think if I get a "left"handed stick I might actually be competent.
Another amazing video. I especially love the topic that was covered particularly. Mental games and e-sports is becoming more realized and well known now more then ever especially in a professional setting. Keep up the good work.
When people are refining the games themselves to this extent, people will search outside the game to get better and obtain the upper hand. It's human nature, perfect something so flawless that a new way of elevating the outcome is needed. Stone to bronze to iron, etc. Competitive gaming is branching out now. Mind games is always the first in a non-athletic sport. Although watch VR in 20-30 years become so good that gamers will have to be in top physical condition to perform. That's the ultimate step in this community's progression, the merging of regular sports with e-sports since the holodeck will eventually be a thing. That or the Matrix, either seem like a fitting end goal.
I like the idea that there will be a day where vr makes its way into professional gaming, but having a video game that requires physical abilities of an athlete seems impractical. I say this because being an actual sports athlete pays way more then e-sports and if people are physically fit to be great athlete that they would be better off trying to be a pro athlete and not a pro gamer. Also the capabilities of future tech vr is scary. I shudder to see the day they decide to create vr that emulates pain. I don't know about you but I would not want to know how a ryu uppercut feels irl. As for vr and professional gaming is concerned pro gaming can run perfectly fine without vr.
I'm very new to fighting games and I've been watching your videos religiously. I always strongly believed 'teabagging' and 'taunting' are like humor: you gotta know when is needed and spot on, and when is unnecesary and gone too far.
Teabaging (I think) actually might have one other effect, aside of taunting. It can also distract your opponent and make your next move less predictable. This way of using teabaging, however, is more appropriate for situation, when your opponent is knocked down, not when stunned. Though I never use it myself. I’m not that good fighting player anyway.
My god i love your videos and while i am nowhere near that level of passion for fighting games i still enjoy your videos because the majority of topics you bring up and explain is also relevant in real life fighting or martial arts
Picking Guile against one Chun-Li yet picking Mika against another; It speaks wonders about how much of the game is played on a player-to-player level as opposed to character-vs-character. Knowing your match-ups is important, in and out of the actual game. I'm betting many would agree that Ricki is more easily flustered than MOV is; both of Du's characters exploit this mental state well, but Mika friggin' FEEDS off of it. And it all goes straight to her ass.
skillustrate its more easier to explain really. Ricki has had problems with Du's Mika all year in the CPT whenever they faced off. And MOV was not sure of the guile MU as he took losses from ISDD's Guile in EU events prior to CapCup. Just Du's. matchup calls paying off.
Those previous matchup facts helped Du, but he actually told a story about MOV after Capcom Cup. The players were all training in different rooms. Du saw MOV was playing and training strictly against Mika. So Du, deciding he wanted to be cheeky, sat down close by MOV and practiced his Mika tech where MOV could see it. Then come capcom cup top 8 he went straight to Guile. While telling the story Du couldn't help but smile as he talked about how he saw the visible facial surprise and concern MOV had to this character pick.
i like how you show the reference of the youtube channels you use by straight up showing the name of the channel under the video alot of us wouldnt look it up otherwise.. rare trait in youtube these days. keep killin it mang!
The most interesting part of this topic is how the same action can induce so many different reactions from different players. For me, being taunted or instant-killed gets me fired up and makes me more passionate to fight the next round harder. In net play when you often have little to no communication with your opponent, taunting is sometimes my only way of communicating with the opponent during the match, even if my intended message "recognize your weakness, focus and fight me" can interpreted completely differently.
I think in game taunts should exist which affects even the gameplay. Like say give the opponent additional damage for their next attack or like Guilty Gear where in the next round, it gives your opponent half of a full meter. You can even give every character 2 types of taunts; the taunt that doesn't affect the gameplay and the one that does. With very simple things you can make the metagate so much wider and more interesting to watch for the audience. It can also be used to make more personalities for the pro community. Like that one guy who always do risky taunts and still wins consistently. Sure there's that one thing that turned pretty bad but for the most part, taunts are all in good fun.
Your graphic design and pacing is amazing. The psychological aspect is so refreshing instead of just blowing off reads as a 900 IQ play. Conditioning is in everything and it scares me

Taunting in real life and most video games: mental tactic that plays off your opponent's anger and ego Taunting in Punch Out: what the hell are you doing, you're literally giving Little Mac a free star
Just found your channel and I'm loving the content so far. I'm surprised you didn't talk more about Smash, but overall I think your analysis on psychology and conditioning was fascinating to say the least.
Exactly. Yeah, it sucks having to wait a month or sometimes more for one of these Analysis videos but by God, Gerald delivers every single time. Any person who is into competitive anything would do right by watching these videos.
I personally hate when I lose to someone and they teabag me. In my mind i'm like "Why are you teabagging me for? it was a good game". But I guess they're trying to get into my head and motivate me to beat them. Good video
"But I guess they're trying to get into my head and motivate me to beat them" More like they're trying to motivate you to mess up by trying to anger you. If people can't win without deliberately trying to throw their opponent off by annoying them with childish disrespect they should be sad.
"If people can't win without deliberately trying to throw their opponent off by annoying them with childish disrespect they should be sad." Did you not watch the video? Getting into peoples head is part of the game man. If you LET someone irritate you by pressing down a few times then you are the sad one.
What are some examples of pop offs that go too far? The first that comes to my mind is the Call of Duty player (?) who screamed "YOU'RE GOING HOME, F*GGOT" after winning a match. It was clear that everyone in the venue was not okay with that kind of behavior.
heardofrvb I doubt it. It's not very sportsman like sure, but it'd be hard to make a case to DQ them for what is essentially "trash talk". It would have to be bridging harassment or uttering threats before you could justify disqualification. I've seen and heard a lot worse before. At decently sized tournaments too. People have throw controllers and chairs all the time without being disqualified. That's just top player privilege.
People who do it are acting on emotion themselves - proud, excited, happy. It's telling that their reaction to feeling these emotions, and a way for them to elicit that emotion further, is to antagonize their peers.
Strange take, even for four years ago. What do you think a competition is other than a test of your skills through antagonizing others via a game? It's not like this is some random encounter on the street, the entire point is to win. Psychological warfare is a part of that, everyone in the comp understands this even if they don't label it like that. One could argue that limits should be put on it so it doesn't risk descending into IRL brawls but eliminating it entirely is silly and unrealistic. If you don't like the game, don't play it. Or do you elicit the same emotions by complaining about "social justice" instead?
Taunting is hype. I love it because it gives character to matches. Makes them feel human. Like in Tekken when an opponent just start dashing forward nonstop in someone's face to tell them they don't need to block because they know you won't do anything. It's part of the mind game and it's what makes fighting games hype to watch.
I’ve noticed my taunting mentality changing. I taunt when someone is playing in a way that is spammy/bad so I try to show what works. But playing good players when there are great combos, kills or just matches in general I just hold my character in crouch as a bow of respect hahaha find it’s better than most things you could do in games
@@Cybrisk Joke apart, it really has an impact! Every times I get bodied first round, I start the round with a back dash and some teabags. The opponents have some weird reactions to that. Lot of possibilities, but these 2 reactions are the most commons: 1) they T-bag too even when it's dangerous and sometimes you gain good combos opportunities freely. 2) They become way more aggressive to try to show you they are totally superior. And the result is: more possibilities to punish overconfident moves.
In a friend group where my friends repetitively taunt me for being decent, I've just given up as a whole, given that they care more about winning than making the game enjoyable
I get slightly bothered when people tea-bag. The excuse people give when they tea bag is mind games and all that. But that's only a side effect to disrespect. No one tea bags and thinks "I'm playing mind games so hard right now" they do it to disrespect. The mind games come as a result of being disrespected. That's why other people get bothered. Just disrespect. And it's almost always done when the opponent can't do anything about it, like when they're stunned or in the "Finish Him" screen in MK. Just to solidify the disrespect. Taunting wouldn't be so bad if someone did it mid match. When I played 3rd strike and SF4, whenever I hit a dope combo or a super, I'd taunt. It's adds character to the match and was never to disrespect. Idk. I guess some people get off on the disrespect
Yeah the taunting used outside of a fair competitive fight just comes off rude. I've been playing ranked Mortal Kombat, and sometimes you encounter people who are whooping your ass conclusively, like you know you're not gonna win against this guy, then in the middle of a 60% combo they tea bag you. It's just trying to humiliate at that point, which seems a bit sadistic.

Is that the convention which declares that no one should be forced to fight the same RPG boss more than 3 times?
@@harryradley yes
@@Sportfuck dude, it's fucking war, you fight to live, yeah the "rules" are there, but those get thrown out the window, it's stupid to civilize war, and I'm sure the Geneva Convention aren't being followed
What I love about your videos is that you're so damn objective, reasonable and informative. You explain why taunting is valuable in the context of competition but also on why it is despised and you let the audience form a consensus through discussion rather than argumentation. U da man.
"Cancel into fist bump"
Jeez you really know how to bring out the awkward nature of professional video gaming
Mark Brown from GMTK recommended this channel and honestly this was a top tier subscription. Love how you dove into the psychology and implementation of taunting as an aspect of gaming/competitive sports
I love how I can return to these videos at any moment and be reminded of how beautiful fighting games truly are
I get pretty pissed even when bots taunt me but I know that it's something I have to condition myself to. T-bagging should totally be allowed imo because even if it pisses people off; those people *need* to be able to laugh it off if they ever want to reach #1.
Why would anyone laugh it off after the person intentionally wanted to be a dick to the other person. That's a person punching someone in the face and then telling them to respect them for doing it.
@@pancakes7483nobody punching you in the face irl buddy
If you get pissed off of a pixel on your screen going up and down, maybe get some help.

Not gonna lie, the Fighting Game genre is my favourite genre, and to have an entire You Tube channel dedicated to it, with also such high quality, is like a Nerd's dream come true.
Every time CoreAGaming uploads a fighting game analysis video I deadass drop everything I'm doing and watch it
you single?
the dan hibiki nah I stop during sex for Core A
Hey I've been binge watching your videos for a few days now, and I've gotta say you've got me legitimately interested in giving fighting games another try.
Go pick up Street Fighter 4, it's a good place to start, and getting good at it, makes you better at all fighting games.
same tbh
Melee tho 👀
Not only did I learn a lot of valuable things about fighting games in general, I learned a lot of other "miscellaneous" knowledge (in the case of this video, how the Geneva Convention came to be) as well. Your videos are so well-researched and well put together, I love them! You earned yourself a subscriber! Keep doing what you do!
"Cancel into fistbump" - Gerald from Core-A gaming 2017
Yep, this is pretty much maining Dedede in a nutshell
I hate Dedede for that very reason. I hope he's more garbage in smash 5.
laying on the ground so seductively... I love him for the various ways he can taunt opponents
My Dedede friend can be be down three stocks, at 160%, and finally take a stock with a random dash attack. And you KNOW he's gonna hit that sick Crouch On Ya, staring smugly into your eyes through the screen. Seen him make some sick comebacks just through the sheer power of that pose
@@lmao2302 Ha, he went from bottom tier to high tier
He can taunt online in ultimate. And they say Sakurai isn't biased...

I really like the gaming analysis on this channel, you break things down so good dude. Wish you were my teacher in school I would've learned alot more. When I get Smash online for the switch imma come rewatch your vids. So I can get good
Four years ago and the beauty and intrucacy got me tearing up. Core-A you guys are analytical gods.
doood, love your channel man! magnificent analytics with historical facts and quotes to backup your points, and tons of cool references and easter eggs in the mix to make the whole watching experience just a whole lotta fun. awesome stuff man! respect.
I love when someone tbags me it gets me all hyped and it's easier to win then, so I appreciate it.
I always strongly believed 'teabagging' and 'taunting' are like humor: you gotta know when is needed and spot on, and when is unnecesary and gone too far.
There is no humor or honour
in doing something
Dirty like that
The people who does this will not be respected
Teabaging (I think) actually might have one other effect, aside of taunting. It can also distract your opponent and make your next move less predictable. This way of using teabaging, however, is more appropriate for situation, when your opponent is knocked down, not when stunned. Though I never use it myself. I’m not that good fighting player anyway.
My god i love your videos and while i am nowhere near that level of passion for fighting games i still enjoy your videos because the majority of topics you bring up and explain is also relevant in real life fighting or martial arts
Dude may I just say your explanations in these videos are highly educational and I completely respect what you do

Picking Guile against one Chun-Li
yet picking Mika against another;
It speaks wonders about how much of the game is played on a player-to-player level as opposed to character-vs-character.
Knowing your match-ups is important, in and out of the actual game. I'm betting many would agree that Ricki is more easily flustered than MOV is; both of Du's characters exploit this mental state well, but Mika friggin' FEEDS off of it. And it all goes straight to her ass.
skillustrate
its more easier to explain really. Ricki has had problems with Du's Mika all year in the CPT whenever they faced off. And MOV was not sure of the guile MU as he took losses from ISDD's Guile in EU events prior to CapCup. Just Du's. matchup calls paying off.
BludAardvark And then there's that. Thanks, I didn't know about the ISSD/MOV details.
While telling the story Du couldn't help but smile as he talked about how he saw the visible facial surprise and concern MOV had to this character pick.
paleposter Lol! Sounds like some shit I would do. The game is always being played-- on or off the sticks.
Shes hot
i like how you show the reference of the youtube channels you use by straight up showing the name of the channel under the video alot of us wouldnt look it up otherwise.. rare trait in youtube these days. keep killin it mang!
"The grappler archetype is designed to insight fear"
HFTF Old Joseph: *happy music*
That's pretty much every character (except jotaro) in that game
Like Luigi's taunt in Sm4sh? Forgot which button press it was, but it had the ability to spike opponents hard if used on the ledge.
Injustice 2 has this with a couple character traits.
High Rollin' Armadillo His Down taunt
A bit too late.
If taunt's granted bonus to the player it would probably be better to remove the name "taunt" and change to something else
....Like taunts in Third Strike?
"Cancel into fistbump."
Got me right in the giggles
Your graphic design and pacing is amazing. The psychological aspect is so refreshing instead of just blowing off reads as a 900 IQ play. Conditioning is in everything and it scares me

I love these essays. Every 6 months, I swear, I binge all of these. 🤘
I personally hate when I lose to someone and they teabag me. In my mind i'm like "Why are you teabagging me for? it was a good game". But I guess they're trying to get into my head and motivate me to beat them. Good video
SuperiorBryce98 I don't mind tea bagging especially mid game. but when i have those bad days, something is going to break lol
Frosty Wasp this guy😂😂😂😂
"But I guess they're trying to get into my head and motivate me to beat them"
More like they're trying to motivate you to mess up by trying to anger you. If people can't win without deliberately trying to throw their opponent off by annoying them with childish disrespect they should be sad.
Scrub.
"If people can't win without deliberately trying to throw their opponent off by annoying them with childish disrespect they should be sad."
Did you not watch the video? Getting into peoples head is part of the game man. If you LET someone irritate you by pressing down a few times then you are the sad one.
What are some examples of pop offs that go too far?
The first that comes to my mind is the Call of Duty player (?) who screamed "YOU'RE GOING HOME, F*GGOT" after winning a match. It was clear that everyone in the venue was not okay with that kind of behavior.
Got in his head, though. He took the win, though. Mind games.
Tim Barich Is there video of this? Can someone please link it to me?
It's not considered mind games if you do it after you win and you're done playing
Tim Barich Was he/his team disqualified?
heardofrvb I doubt it.
The quality of the content of this video is outstanding. Really great job. Thank you so much for sharing it🙏😌
I don't even like competitive fighting games that much. I just love this channel.

3rd Strike has the best taunts. Taunt with Q up to 3 times to damn-near _double_ your health.
Keegan Blade Q's taunt only works up to three times you 17er
what are you talking about that's what I've been saying all this time sshhhhhhh
NOOOO IM RUINED
Taunting is hype. I love it because it gives character to matches. Makes them feel human.
Like in Tekken when an opponent just start dashing forward nonstop in someone's face to tell them they don't need to block because they know you won't do anything. It's part of the mind game and it's what makes fighting games hype to watch.
This was absolutely gratifying to watch. Well put together argument and well edited all around.
I’ve noticed my taunting mentality changing. I taunt when someone is playing in a way that is spammy/bad so I try to show what works.
But playing good players when there are great combos, kills or just matches in general I just hold my character in crouch as a bow of respect hahaha find it’s better than most things you could do in games
the way that punk dude talks in that interview clip reminds me of Danny brown so much lol

Also me: taunts after getting 1 knockdown
Them: *visible pause of confusion*
@@Cybrisk Joke apart, it really has an impact! Every times I get bodied first round, I start the round with a back dash and some teabags. The opponents have some weird reactions to that.
Lot of possibilities, but these 2 reactions are the most commons:
1) they T-bag too even when it's dangerous and sometimes you gain good combos opportunities freely.
2) They become way more aggressive to try to show you they are totally superior. And the result is: more possibilities to punish overconfident moves.
Bagging is so-underrated when you’re playing characters who can blow up the opponent on whiff-punish.
Fighting games teaches you so much about human nature it’s craaazy
In a friend group where my friends repetitively taunt me for being decent, I've just given up as a whole, given that they care more about winning than making the game enjoyable
Just grow a pair, git gud, and taunt them right back to teach them a lesson!
You see the number one player?

This reminds me of team OG playing dota 2, where they spam voice lines in game during tournaments and "tip" the other team whenever they win a fight, essentially saying "sorry for destroying you, here's $1".
I can only imagine the frustration on the receiving end of that
