A super 8 film I shot last summer in Japan. Filmed in Tokyo, Nagoya and Kyoto. Instagram: / willemverb Music by: Tom Rosenthal Developed by Gauge Film in UK.
It's so funny to read this, since that was exactly what I did when I was madly in love with my wife some 10 years ago. Just me and her in a secret park in The Hague during winter.
In a time and space where RUclips and Instagram is over saturated with noise, through your videos your voice is quiet and emotional, sincere and bold. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate and respect your work.
i used to live in Tokyo and i haven’t been able to go back since and this gave me such a heavy dose of nostalgia like seeing an old pet again and I am just sitting here crying because your film jus perfectly captured the simplest things about tokyo and i miss it so thank you
Looks like Kodak Vision 3, 50D neg, shot at 18fps. VERY beautiful and quite sharp for Super 8mm. Love the look. Kevin (Gauge Film, no affiliation) did a fantastic job processing and scanning - as always. Thanks for sharing!
I've seen super 8 cams in charity shops for a few quid. This has made me want to buy one and shoot some shot like this. I love how it looks, everything appears kinda nostalgic.
Your video inspired me to get a super 8 camera. I just bought the same one you used for this video yesterday from a reputable seller. I’ll be using it to film when I revisit Japan in a few months. Cheers.
Fantastic! I got a Hanimex super 8 camera on a flea market and an unused ORWO cartridge, but the camera died mid-roll (gear rot)... Too bad it looked like it was not even used. I did pay $3 for the lot, so lt's not that bad, but still sucks that the camera is now just a decoration...
Hey man! Super inspiring work you're doing. I have some videos coming as well, but im not sure how it works with using peoples music in my videos? Did you buy rights to use the songs you using? Hope you can help me on this one, thanks!
Did you get these scanned in Japan? Gonna be there for a while and wanna know if there's a place that will develop and scan my rolls. Your footage looks beautiful by the way!
I'm afraid to add music I actually enjoy instead of using everything from artlist.io due to the copyrights. How did you go about adding known artist on your videos?
How do you shoot on Super 8 (or 35mm or any other film for that matter) when traveling internationally? I've heard you're not always guaranteed a hand check at international airports, and I'd never want to risk it. The only idea I've had personally was to know someone who lives where you're going so that you can have film shipped to their house, then have them safely mail it to whatever lab. I was in France (Deauville and Paris) and Germany (Dresden) for Christmas, and those were places I would've LOVED to have gotten on Super 8, but I couldn't think of any solutions before I left. :(
MrMeow2006 That’s done by Gaugefilm in the U.K. I don’t know what they use but it’s definitely not a Wolverine scanner since you can get professional high bit rate, high color depth, Log files from them.
hi, I am currently working on a music project, and I was wondering if I was able to use some of your clips in it, the clips will be no more than 4 seconds total as it will be a quick pan from the music video to your shots, 100% credit will be given to you and it is non profit so I will not be profiting it is purely for art.
Plus develop and scan for about $50 and shipping... 90 min / 3 min each roll = 30 rolls needed 30*50= 1500 just for the film 30 cartridges * 50 (process and scan) = 1500 Assume shipping all the rolls together for around 150 bucks Probably cost you around 4k
I think there should be a tradition that if you really love someone or something, you must film them on Super 8.
OMG I am having exactly the same thought!!! So heartening when I saw someone say it out loud!
that way you can remember them when they leave you

The only problem is, it’s pretty expensive.
Its' pretty insane how simply shooting with super 8 completely dates the video. This was beautiful!
Thank you
That was literally amazing. It's hard to believe it was filmed in 2017. That's one amazing super8. Also great background music.
geni Tom Rosenthal is awesomeee❤
Good stuff. I travel to Tokyo alot. I recognize some of the streets you filmed in. The soft focus made it like recognizing something from a dream.
Thank you :)

Another amazing piece. Thank you for this I can’t express to you how much I love this. Thank you for making it and sharing it with us
Ironically timeless, interesting choice of music. I love the colours the Super 8 brings out (or maybe you brought it out). I really enjoyed this
Great vibes; Japan, Super 8, and Tom Rosenthal go together really well ❤️
This is so nice, makes my heart aches for a moment there.
This video made me wept. Mr. Verbeeck, you transported me to my time living in Tokyo. ありがとうございました。

Hey man! Super inspiring work you're doing. I have some videos coming as well, but im not sure how it works with using peoples music in my videos? Did you buy rights to use the songs you using?

someday someone will find this footage and be puzzled about when it was shot

hi! if i give you credit can i post a song i made with this film?
The ending looks like Fushimi-Inari Shrine in Kyoto though
That looks very nice.
Is that scan by Wolverine Super 8 Film Scanner?
MrMeow2006 That’s done by Gaugefilm in the U.K. I don’t know what they use but it’s definitely not a Wolverine scanner since you can get professional high bit rate, high color depth, Log files from them.
where do you find no copyright music??
Awesome video, whats the name of the song?
This one: ruclips.net/video/Jofq1Fvrm9s/видео.html
is this from new kodak supe8??
Where do you go to get super 8 film developed
Search for developing labs online there should be some
What camera did you use??
Hi Willem ! Want to ask what film do you use ? Thanks
Hey Willem which did u use? :)
what fps is this?
Killer video, what camera did you use?
TrueNorth canon 518 superzoom :)))
Thank you! Going to go buy it now!!
hi, I am currently working on a music project, and I was wondering if I was able to use some of your clips in it, the clips will be no more than 4 seconds total as it will be a quick pan from the music video to your shots, 100% credit will be given to you and it is non profit so I will not be profiting it is purely for art.
If I ask a question will you respond ?
What camera and film did you use for this?
Cameron Webb it's given away in the title. Super8
geni Maybe I wasn't specific enough, but I meant what type of super8 camera like the Canon 310XL or like the Canon Auto Zoom 814.
Cameron Webb oh makes sense. I don't know about that check for any affiliate link in any of his videos
Do you think people from the future will be confused as to why some pictures and videos from our current time look so old?
what camera and film did you use for this if you dont mind sharing 😭
Savion ye i know its a super 8 camera but there are different brands that sell the super 8 and also different types of film u can use 🙄🙄
Did you have the film shipped to your address or did you hand carry it? I heard xray can mess up a film stock
I wonder the price. if I use it for 90mins features, average takes maybe 6times, how much money do you think???
3 mins of shooting is about 50 quid so yeah its alot of money
Plus develop and scan for about $50 and shipping...
90 min / 3 min each roll = 30 rolls needed
30*50= 1500 just for the film
30 cartridges * 50 (process and scan) = 1500
Assume shipping all the rolls together for around 150 bucks
Probably cost you around 4k
First off awake video, and also how did u transfer your super 8 footage to digital ?
papas pizza gauge film in the uk scanned my film :)
If heaven doesn't feel like this video put me in hell
What’s that Black man story I would love to know?
He was from Texas, making hotdogs and selling them :)
Willem Verbeeck lol that’s awesome, that has to be the most American thing I have heard in a while!
Is it really super 8? Or super 8 post editing?
