Film photographs and video are great because its instant nostalgia. You feel like you know these people because you think you're watching a historic document, of your parents in college or your own life even, if you're older. I feel like I could picture myself there while watching. It's a very intense feeling for such a small effort, and that's amazing.
you dont need a modern fucking movie industrie camera to create masterpieces. The super8 is one of my favourites. Incomparable unique quallity and amazing colors make it perfect!
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS... I JUST BOUGHT A SUPER 8 CAMERA AND AM AWAITING ITS ARRIVAL ... CAN'T WAIT TO GIVE IT A SPIN. YOU DID A GREAT JOB WITH YOURS! (AND SORRY FOR ALL CAPS GUYS, MY KEYBOARD NO BUENO) PEACE
That's funny, I just went 2 weeks at Yellow Park and I ordered a Canon 1024 XL-S right before but I did not receive it in time for the trip. But I sure will take it with me the next time... I wish, and hope that Kodak will make Super 8 film with sound available soon.
This film is so beautiful, it really has a soul to it. I have this same Canon camera and am about to film in Italy, and of all the casual research I've done this evening, this is the very best thing I've seen. Thank you! I will colour correct like you have in the processing, and any other tips you feel like giving then please, you are welcome, really. I'm doing a pilgrimage to Assisi, the beautiful home of St.Francis & St.Clare.
Matthew, they are great to work with, and will gladly answer any questions (I emailed them a lot). As far as what I did, I obviously selected super 8mm, and scene-scene corrected, and then the ProRes HQ for the output (which will just be a Quicktime file basically and edited perfectly in premiere and after effects). I did not do any special processing or pushing pulling. Hope that helps!
ATTRACTIONS FUEGOS ARTIFICIALES Bullshit. Do you realize how expensive and a pain in the ass it is to shoot on film? Not everyone has the luxury to be able to afford to shoot on film.
Lovely theme. I suggest you try to shoot with less panning of the camera, and try to use tripod for most shots. 18 FPS doesn't look very well with a lot of camera movement :-)
You've definitely gave those moments a beautiful way to be remembered when you decided to shoot it on film. By the way, did you use the 85 filter for daylight scenes?
hi there! great video - do i have permission to use some of this footage in a music video i’m working on? i’m collecting vintage clips from the past and thought this would fit in nicely :)
its obvious that the super 8 lenses are not very bright, in the end in the shots in full sun you can see the image better ... the supper 8 works better in full sun
Hey Joel! My name is Francis and I'm an independent filmmaker based in Berlin, Germany from Canada! I wanted to ask you if it's possible to use your footage in the background of a music video I am shooting with some friends. It would be projected on the wall within the set design of a music video. Let me know if you would be okay with this and of course, being included in the credits. Thanks!! Cheers
To be honest, I am not entirely sure! I would swap between film types depending on how bright it was outside, but I really did not mind the light meter too much. Some of the footage came out too exposed, or under exposed, and some of that was cut out for the final. Also, and perhaps most importantly, I asked Cinelab to do scene-by-scene corrected."Scene to scene color correction is when the colorist times each individual cut for optimum color and sharpness." So, although working mostly with the color, it is my understanding that this help in the processing as well. You can push the film much farther than the light meter tells you the limit is.
thanks! just got my first reel back from them today. highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to have their motion film developed and scanned well for (relatively) cheap.
Christopher Binder I am still very new to Super 8, and I was looking to try some different films, but still something that would be an in-between. Honestly, 50D would have been great on some of those bright days, but I didn't won't to have to switch films in and out depending on the light, so I went with the 500T for more flexibility.
forest20 At the very beginning of the film it shows an image of "A CHRISTIAN MINISTRY IN THE NATIONAL PARK" that pretty much says it. If you have an issue with Christian music, or Christians, why would you watch it?
As you can see I was replying to forest20, the guy complaining about the Christian music, and not to the uploader, Joel Cockrell, so apology accepted then. In fact, I personally think the music fits the mood of the film really well, and it's really good on its own too :) I didn't even know about the artist before this. I'm going to have to seek out some more of their stuff.
Jojaco again, I apologize, after reading everything, my comment was meant for Forrest20 as well, but for some reason it will not let me comment to him, so my original comment went to you. I promise you, that was not my intention. On your reply, i "assumed" that the mute reference was to a video I posted that I left the very irritating projector noise. So again, I was wrong.
xenon prachtzweig Actually, it really is super 8. The description of the video lists the camera and film I used. Though you are right in that it is possible to do on a computer, It would be quite difficult and time consuming to try and reproduce a super 8 effect with the amount of detail in this video. For example: 1) the natural color transitions from when the film runs out: 2) the major difference in the exposure: 3) the fact that the frame rate differs and some shots are fast while others are slow (due to me filming some places incorrectly). This video is the real deal.
There's this special kind of warmth that makes us connect to nature. And I think you captured it perfectly.
I appreciate it!

Beautiful film quality and music.
this feels like i'm in someone else's head, living life through their eyes
Nice shoot
This song has the feels of How Am I Supposed to Live Without You
This movie is way better than the shit we see on Netflix.

This film you've made shows every possible scenario you could use the film in. Brilliant.

This was beautiful.
This is what film making is all about.
super 8 + handwritten notebook at the end.
made my day.
Thanks! That's my favorite part of the video!
This is so awesome. How I wish I have this kind of camera. 💛
Its an app. Its not film.

Amazing film quality❤
Great film
just want to say awesome footage. I haven't seen a scan by cinelab that looks this good til now. even your faster pans look sharp.
david scott thanks man! They did a great job. Yeah, got a little crazy with my pans, but they turned out pretty good actually.
this is so beautiful, thank you for creating this and sharing such beautiful music! God Bless x
God bless brother
Love the lens flare

Thanks so much! I will be uploading a new Super 8 film in a few weeks!
Great work...go forward!
This is awesome!
great video. love it :-)
Super 8 is still alive. I like your clip. :)
really enjoyed this :)
RIP Super 8
Reminds me of The Wonder Years.
You shot at 18fps and transferred at 24fps. You can fix this if you open in atom inspector and change all instances of 24 to 18.
Beautiful shots. I was wondering what data scanning settings you selected as I am in the process of sending my film over to cine.
Cheers Mate.

Digitizing all that footage must have cost a fortune 😮
real cinema is film, video is just for tv.
ATTRACTIONS FUEGOS ARTIFICIALES Bullshit. Do you realize how expensive and a pain in the ass it is to shoot on film? Not everyone has the luxury to be able to afford to shoot on film.
oh wow
super 8 is pretty
needs more T&A but otherwise not a bad video
Lovely theme. I suggest you try to shoot with less panning of the camera, and try to use tripod for most shots. 18 FPS doesn't look very well with a lot of camera movement :-)
I agree! It was the first time I have shot with a super 8 camera, and I learned that quickly. I will definitely be panning less in the future.
Footage looking good.Where did you developed it? Greetings from Europe. Best C...
I love my mom

Patrick Lewis ahahahhaahahhahahha
Awesome video man! could I ask, did you use a filter at all and if so what one?
Where'd you guys get your film developed? Great video!

Woody Harrelson appears at 5:58
Beautiful footage!! How much did the processing cost you?
It wasn't too bad. About $130 for four roles. I used CineLab.
Why super 8 film can sometimes outplay point and shoot cameras for video?
is this a 4K transfer? Also how did you crop out the Super 8 bars and square?
Complimenti
You've definitely gave those moments a beautiful way to be remembered when you decided to shoot it on film. By the way, did you use the 85 filter for daylight scenes?
I appreciate it! And no, I did not use any filters. I just made sure to change out the film for something that would work better in the daylight.
LOVE THIS
hi there! great video - do i have permission to use some of this footage in a music video i’m working on? i’m collecting vintage clips from the past and thought this would fit in nicely :)
Go for it Hayley! If you have any credits in your video, just give me credit. Send me a link when you’re done!
Great Video. Quick question did you shoot the 500t film first or the 200t?
I am not sure which one the video starts with, but they're mixed throughout. I alternated between the two depending on the lighting conditions.
Hello,
Can I contact you about using your work in a music video by an established band?
for an EP launch - series of four songs.
Underfull Lindo, Maravilhoso!!!!!!
could you please tell me what type of scanning/telecine you did and from where thank you so much
how did you get your film digitized?
its obvious that the super 8 lenses are not very bright, in the end in the shots in full sun you can see the image better ... the supper 8 works better in full sun

Please tell me how you compensated for the Canon's 250 ASA limit? Your pictures are perfectly exposed.
Seong Buk-Gu I would also love to know!

What is the font used at 0:46 ?
cool video. may i ask how you scanned?
I sent the film off to a place called Cinelab, they scanned the film for me, and then gave me a digital copy that I could then edit.
thanks! just got my first reel back from them today. highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to have their motion film developed and scanned well for (relatively) cheap.
can you remember which type of scan you did? telecine or scan ? thank you
How did you transfer the film to your computer or wherever you transferred it to?
I sent the film off to a place called Cinelab, they scanned the film for me, and then gave me a digital copy that I could then edit.
what month and year was this filmed?
Why 500T instead of 50D?
Christopher Binder I am still very new to Super 8, and I was looking to try some different films, but still something that would be an in-between. Honestly, 50D would have been great on some of those bright days, but I didn't won't to have to switch films in and out depending on the light, so I went with the 500T for more flexibility.
Love this so much, just a quick question, any ND filter when shooting outdoors in bright light?
Thank you
what frame rate did you use? 24?
The Wedge yep! I believe I shot at 24.
i appreciate this man, really nice job! you have a similar kinda style as me, you should check some of my videos out! I've subscribed to you!
Thanks dude! You've got some sweet stuff! Keep it up!
The objects should move, not the camera ! This is valid for Film and for Video too
Lose the Christian music

It's alright m8
Hateful much?
This would be so much better without the Jesus bs
Its Not a super 8, Its a Video with a bad Made super 8 look on the computer
