I think I’m definitely a cheetah. I do these spur of the moment purges and waste a lot of energy. I also have a problem with maintenance. Thank you for these ideas and expectations to think about.

What a creative, inspirational and motivating video! ❤ I really love your channel and your soothing, practical spirit. I’ve been a minimalist for a couple of years now and this really resonated with the dolphin in me as I reflected on my journey and growth. Some hurdles that stumped me were the guilty, identity, and fantasy self clutter. Also how you can love something, but it no longer serves your current season of life. It’s incredibly freeing when you do the hard work and move on. Thank you!❤

I love the encouragement you share for others in the comments! Minimalism is such a blessing. It's a difficult journey, but SO, SO worth it!

Oof. I’m a dolphin 🐬 I keep getting caught up in decluttering while my house needs routines & systems firmly in place. Working on keeping a tidy kitchen & steady laundry system with 2 little ones is not easy - especially when I feel the constant clutter lingers on my mind all the time. We have a 900 square foot condo and anything on surfaces is too much. I also have goals and too many projects around the house so the other things fall to the way side. Love the e-book document! Very practical! Thank-you!

@@AmeliaUnleashed Laundry changed for me when I started doing a load every day. I think waiting for a full dryer (while maybe it’s a little cheaper) ruins us. The pile just keeps getting bigger even after there’s totally enough to fill the washer. Doing a small load every day (and using the smell test or a quick look for stains; put it back in the closet if it passes both tests) is so much more manageable. And of course, capsule closets. But if you’re not ready to declutter your clothes, start with laundry every day. Good luck!

Have grace with yourself. Life with kids means tons of clutter, as the phases changes quickly. My kids are 6 and 4 and I am still decluttering on a regular basis, especially when the seasons change. Rachel from "Nourishing Minimalism" as well as the Minimal Mom have kept me on track, but it's still a lot of mental load to manage.
As for laundry- don't fold. Have a bin for each child, one dirty one clean clothes. Dump the clean clothes right into the bin, get dressed from the bin, keep it in a wardrobe so you won't see it, using it like a drawer. This way, you can keep their clothing minimal, having little more than your wash cycle needs (plus a very few extras).
Likely, you are a "ladybug" or a butterfly clutter bug (see for Cas Aarsen's Clutterbug test), so you are overwhelmed quickly by visual stuff out.
For paper and projects check out the Sunday Basket from Organize365.
Check out European apartments on RUclips, as they are typically small and use lots of space saving solutions.
Hang in there. You got this.

Totally agree with these tips! I was so, so hesitant to do a daily load. I didn't think we'd have enough. But, I figured I'd try it for a week, no need to make a lifelong commitment, and then I was sold.

@@janego2018 I love these ideas! Thank-you!! Yes, you’re right, I’m a butterfly! I’ve been tweaking all our areas that bottle-neck. We don’t have a laundry room but a closet in our hallway so I have succumb to using an IKEA TRONES wall Shoe/storage cabinet to quickly put socks, toddler underwear, dish towels into right out of the wash - and I don’t match socks or fold any category of clothes except my husbands clothes which I put on the IKEA unit for put away. Game-changer. No sorting & no doom baskets! We have a tall shelf unit at the end of the hallway with a small basket on each shelf (one for my husband, our boys & myself) and when one is getting filled I do that load and put the basket back on the shelf. I do think your idea of minimizing the children’s clothes to one basket load each is brilliant, then I would just do a load a day with ease. Love it!!

The cookie example at the beginning got me, haha! I think, I'm a cheetah. To know which type I am helps to have lower expectations and be more careful with myself. Your tips are very helpful as well. Thank you!

I have the same problem as a dolphin 😞 🐬 and for me the main area I avoid is digital clutter and overflowing schedule, which leads to mental fog so I go over and over the same easy spaces around my home and leaving them without satisfying results

nice video. The partner and I are definitely 'Shmerika', literally and metaphorically. We both spent years as chemists, which probably accounts for it. Our son, however, is an 'Erika', which makes it hard at times. (He's 54, and staying with us temporarily after some bumps in the road.) The four types can definitely get to the same place, although by different paths. Until minimalism became a thing, we used to describe our life style as living like graduate students, because most of our habits of thrift and declutter we learned when we were grad students, sometimes at the same time. When we got 'real' jobs, the habits stuck.

So relatable! I am definitely a Dolphin. I have revisted spaces over and over again. It's my 4th year of Decluttering journey and now I see remarkable difference. Well it's still a long way to go but now I take it easy because it's manageable 😅. I did share my phases of Decluttering in my videos.
