We've gotten in the habit of shoes off when we come inside and have house shoes. More hygienic too. We also open up the back and front doors (screen doors closed) in order to air out the place with a cross breeze. Smells fresher too.😊 😊😊
Hi Angela, No dirty dishes for me, lol, so I wash as I cook; it never takes me more than 3 minutes and it's all done very quickly because there is no old, hardened dirt on them. First, I wash what's easy (plates, silverware, glasses, etc.), and then lids and pots. If something needs (intense) scrubbing, I put hot water with a drop of dishwashing liquid to sit there for a while. Then it usually goes away easily and the scrubbing is minimal. Other rooms can be a bit less organized in my mornings, but I love having my kitchen always perfectly clean and ready. The same is valid for the bathroom. The living room is easy to manage; the kitchen would be way harder if I didn't care. I do my laundry once per week (with 5 kids as you have it would be a different story, though, haha), and I iron/steam/fold/hang/put away immediately. That's the best way how it works for me. Otherwise, something more important can come around and then I can have a hard time finding time to finish the task that waits for the next week, and I don't like it at all, lol.
I am always amazed at those who think they have invented something.? Gosh I thought most people did this. I'm older yes. But it's natural to do the bed first. Etc. Sorry, I find it all a little odd to make a u tube out of it x
None. Lol! I just moved into my new home and keeping clean and tidy are the last things on my mind in a sea of boxes. :-). However, once everything is unpacked - and organized (yes, I decided, it doesn't matter how long it takes to unpack because if I organize now - rather than wait until after everything is unpacked to start organizing - the time savings will be realized in the long run) all of these suggestions will be mandatory. Included in my organizing, is making an inventory as I go along. I remember in my last house of almost 40 years, I thought if I put like kind things together I'll never forget where things are. But then I remembered how many times I would spend 10 or 15 minutes just looking for something. Now everything is on a spreadsheet for easy reference. Hopefully, this will never be needed, but if the house is destroyed in a weather event or a fire, that list will make it much easier when working with the insurance company.
I’m a 74 year old grandma. I’ve recently found your RUclips channel while my husband and I were on the road. Great ideas which I’ve known but fall back into bad habits. When we got home, I cleaned off our dining table. When my husband came in, he asked, “Are we getting company?” 😊
I know this bc most of our tables are the dump spaces. My house is clean but messy. I don’t have energy for both so I prefer cleaning first. I believe the bed should be aired first we’ve gotten into the bad habit of filling the sink with dishes. It’s not me but my son and husband. If the dishwasher is full, run it or empty it. Don’t put in sink. It’s dirty from meats etc. They refuse to wash a thing. So when one starts with a bowl, the other adds to it. Undoing this bad habit before we go in 2025. Deal with junk mail leaving outside. Those in the house, usually like to bring in and drop on table regardless of how many times Instate it’s dirty. Every night we need to straighten up before going to bed. I don’t want to do laundry every day. Shoes off inside should be a rule but what about the animals? We don’t have a solution for this yet?
I remember my mom trying to keep her house clean especially kitchen and bathroom. I had my chores early in life. I followed her rules and my siblings didn’t! Who has the cleanest house now and most accomplished in their lives? The one who had such discipline in their lives!! Though these are simple things in life, it takes you long ways in other parts of life which requires discipline. Worth following mom’s rules!!
@@ArrowHillCottage just the other day, my sister, who has a small daughter that she's started giving simple chores to was telling me that she read online that kids who are given chores tend to be successful adults. I didn't look it up, but yeah, it seems there has been research on that.
❤ I know this one tips over the “big 10”, but a bonus tip is: if it can be done in a minute or less, do it now. Taking a dish directly to the kitchen/dishwasher, throwing out your trash instead of leaving it behind, etc. dealing with it immediately saves the clutter creep in its tracks.
True! But I don’t see it until I go to bed at night, so to me it’s the least important daily task. Except I do like to straighten the blankets, not for appearance but for comfort and ease at bedtime.
@@ArrowHillCottage my mum always said open the window, fold back your blankets to air the bed while you wash/shower then make the bed up because if your bed is made your room is tidy and done. ( miss you sair Mum )
In my case, taking everything off of the bed except the fitted sheet, and putting all these items (pillows, folded blankets, duvet cover) onto a nearby shelf, is required for a peaceful and happy life, because my dogs will jump on my bed and chew up anything they find there. They love to cuddle-snack on the corners of my pillows or throws or duvets. It looks pretty spare, I must admit, but if it saves me a $300 trip to the vet and dog messes to clean after they upset their stomach being naughty? Absolutely worth it. I do this every single morning and so far, so good. I keep thinking that someday they'll grow out of it, but they are 2 and 4 now and I think the days of having a beautiful, well-made, designer, bed are in my past. Ha-ha! A pretty fitted sheet is all I get.
1. Make your bed every morning (try to finish in 1-2 mins) 2. Deal with junk mail before it even gets in the house 3. USE your dining table for meals (so it won’t become a dumping station) 4. Have dedicated areas for items (hang up clothing, put small appliances away etc) 5. Leave all outside shoes at the door 6. Sweep/vacuum high traffic areas daily 7. Clean any spills/ messes immediately 8. For freshness use your vent hood, open windows, clean litter box often 9. Wash or put dishes in dishwasher (keep counters clear) 10. Keep a donation box and often evaluate if an item is still useful
Your presentation is excellent! Your voice, rate of speech, articulation, pleasant facial expressions, organized delivery, appropriate background sounds and demonstrations, allow your message to be heard clearly and in an enjoyable manner. I look forward to viewing your other videos. 😊
Ah yes! I think my Dad must have said this at least once a week when we were growing up. Alas, once I had 4 kids, moved into a run down, in need of updating house, there wasn’t always “a place for everything.” I did focus on “clean” over “clutter”,… dishes done, beds made, rugs vacuumed, laundry put away, no food in bedrooms.
Decided decades ago, spending 30 minutes daily keeps clutter, which I cannot stand, at a minimum. Have never been able to get into an unmade bed at night, must wake up to a clean kitchen and bath. Hate clothes thrown around in my space ever. Even with a small child and working, was able to establish habits that lessened my stress. It also makes finding things much easier in the long run.
Thanks for the great ideas. I did want to mention a habit I learned from the FLY Lady website. She calls it "swish and swipe". If you do a mini-clean every time you use your bathroom, then it stays much more clean and you can easily have unplanned guests over without embarrassment. If the toilet looks like it needs a swish, I grab the toilet bowl scrubby and freshen the bowl with a spritz of cleaner and a swish of the scrubby. After I wash my hands, I use a paper towel to dry them, and then I fold the paper towel into a square, and use it to wipe down whatever catches my eye as the most in need: the mirror above the sink? The shelf on top of the back of the toilet? The baseboards? The light switch? The edge of the tub facing into the room? Whatever it is, I either give it a spritz from a spray bottle and wipe it down, or just use the damp paper towel to dust it. This adds less than three minutes to my bathroom visit, and when it becomes an ingrained habit, the bathroom remains ready for visitors every day, not just right after a thorough cleaning that takes thirty minutes to an hour. It never gets very dirty unless a disaster happens (e.g. trying to bathe a muddy and uncooperative puppy -- or child!) 🌊🌊🌊
I do the same thing. My hand towels get wet quickly since I was my hands a lot from having animals and always doing work in my shop. They get too wet to just dry out and get used longer, but are relatively clean. The window seal and back of the toilet always get dirty and the sink top gets wet or dirty. Before throwing the towel in the laundry basket in the closet, I wipe of what is needed. Sometimes it is the baseboards or grab bars and toilet paper holder and other times the inside of the sink is dirty, so I wipe it out with surface cleaner. The towels are going to get washed with dirty clothes anyway. Dishes always get rinsed right away and if not washed immediately, left wet in the sink so they don't dry. It is easy to hand wash the dishes that don't go in the dishwasher, because of this. I'm always cleaning little things or putting items away. If I'm off work the day before or hours before I have my massage therapist scheduled to come over, I will do more cleaning. When I'm working on stuff in the shop or away on job sites, I don't spend a lot of time on cleaning. After massage and chiropractic, I don't want to use my body for work that pays or work around the house. Cleaning before my appointment is a good time to relax a little, get the cleaning done, and ensure it looks the way I want. My shop is small and well organized. Doing welding, fabrication, and all kinds of other work can get it dirty and disorganized quickly, so I am always cleaning as I go. I don't like working in a mess or having others see my place that way. One customer said my shop was cleaner than his bedroom and he felt bad about leaving little plastic insulation pieces laying around when we were wiring up a project. My spaces are not at all perfect or extremely clean or even like a magazine, as an ex claimed I tried to keep my place. They are far from magazine like, but are usable and manageable. With pets and wearing shoes inside and having dirty work clothes, in an area with Santa Anna winds full of dust, it is impossible to be that clean. By always trying to take little steps, even though I'm tired and often in pain, it keeps my areas presentable and comfortable. They are far cleaner than some people's places, but still not crazy. There has to be a balance with a person's lifestyle.
Yes. Another tip is grabbing a cotton ball and sprinkling a little bit of essential oil on it (lavender? rose? eucalyptus?) to vacuum up first after cleaning your vacuum means that the vacuum exhaust will put a very nice scent into your rooms.
Totally agree. Clean clothes left in a heap are indistinguishable from dirty clothes. To me, it's wasted effort. Folding or hanging clothersipromptly out of the dryer also minimizing ironing (but who are we kidding, if a person doesn't hang up clean clothes they are probably not ironing them later). LOL.

We have a "combo". It washes & dries your clothes all in the same tub. You don't have to move the clothes from the washer to the dryer. You just plop the clothes in & take out the dry clothes later. It even has special settings to dry more, use less water, dewrinkle, etc.
As a person with arthritis, it would be extremely helpful to have a chair readily available to use while taking off and putting shoes back on. It's awkward to be visiting someone's home and wanting to be respectful by removing your shoes but not able to do so easily. And, at least for me, any type of shoe is difficult because of balance problems.
I can relate to this. Even to the point when I visit people I stress about taking off my shoes and the embarrassment of awkwardly trying to in front of people. 😢
I think a sturdy and well padded bench seat about the width of three normal dining chairs is a requirement for asking elderly American guests to remove their shoes. A stand-up shoe horn hanging at the end of the shoe cabinet is also a tremendous kindness. I have to sit side-saddle and bring my knee up onto a bed or bench in order to tie my shoes, and I'm "only" 68, not 88.
I always make my bed first in the morning, but if I strip my bed for washing, I will let my bed stay unmade all day to allow fresh air onto the mattress with the windows wide open. That way, the mattress will freshen up and smell clean, before I put the sheets and bedding back on the bed.
Thank you so much for these wonderful tips to maintaining a clean home. It was concise, informative, and most of all doable! I have 5 children, and when they were little my solution for the bigger cleaning jobs was a house cleaner. I realize that that is not always affordable for many, but just having to only do the little, tidy daily jobs allowed me more time to: spend with my children, play chauffeur, make nutritious homemade meals, bake, and quite frankly stay sane! lol
Excellent tips!! I learned just about all of your tips from my mother!! My home is very tidy and appears "picked up." I learned Mom's methods early in life but kinda blew them off!!!! Now, I need to maintain my home in this fashion. When my home is disorganized my mind is the same way!!! Yep!! Thanks Mom for showing me how to stay organized. ❤
I always wonder…WHY do people put the headboard of their bed in front of a window?? Why block the window light when there is other wall space? Also, I find it unsettling to have a head under a window, for many reasons.
We live in a house that is about 170 years old, which has some great advantages and some annoying disadvantages. In our bedroom, we have the option of placing our bed catty-corner or in front of a window. The room has 2 windows, a door to the hall, a door to the bathroom, and a fireplace - one feature per wall plus the fireplace - so there is not really a great place for the bed. It has been sitting catty-corner since we moved here 5 years ago and over time I have decided that as soon as we can get some help to get it out of that corner and in front of one of those windows, the better I’m going to like it. We will use draperies to create the illusion that the window is the same width as the bed. The windows have shutters on the lower half and that helps knock out some of the winter cold that comes off these very old single-pane windows. Probably TMI, but that’s one reason beds are sometimes placed in front of windows.
Often it simply depends on the layout of the room. Old house owner here, and as someone else said, you just have to deal with the features in the room. Try coping with 4 windows, a radiator and a split style AC...I'd rather have the window than the AC over me...
I LOVE having my head under a window. Have the window open and inhale fresh air all night. And then in the early morning hear the birds waking up. Blissful indeed.
Being a good example to your kids is a way of keeping your home clean and teaching them to do the same! Don't throw your coats over the chair, hang them up! Put your dishes in the dishwasher, not on the counter! Family takes shoes off, not all company! Vacuuming and cleaning floors often! Clean kitchen and appliances after meals! It is a constant battle but gets easier as you get in the habit of keeping things in order!
I agree with letting guests choose, most are happy to comply but there are lots of reasons why some wouldn't want to do it. I used to have terrible eczema on my feet and would've been too embarrassed to take off shoes and socks, I would however opt to keep my socks on
My tip is to have a small vacuum (chargeable in the closet) wherever you see dirt and dust. I have three of them and It has helped me a lot. I use them under the dining table, in the bathrooms and on the stairs all the time. It really takes a minute to take it out, clean and put it back. When you do this you need to do a major vacuuming once a week at most
We use house shoes (slippers too hot) so we have super comfy dedicated home pair. Outside shoes at door. For the few times guests come over each year, they can do what they want & we just wash floors after (unless they have muddy boots on lol)
That brown couch looks so comfortable. In my experience, the daily vacuum/sweep/or mop in high-traffic areas is the most critical thing when you have a shedding dog! Then the kitchen at night, then the constant decluttering.
@@ArrowHillCottage That's awesome. I had a couch like that and loved it. It wasn't pretty but so awesome... got it on Craigslist and wouldn't have let it go if I hadn't moved into a space that wouldn't allow for it.
Daily vacuuming is great, even if you don't have a dog, lol! When we cook and eat at home we really cannot avoid the tiny crumbs falling here and there. After 2-3 days it's unbearable😞; at least for me. I found out that when the house is not cluttered and the floors are easily accessible-that means just a couple of pieces of necessary furniture and nothing else-sweeping/vacuuming/moping is an easy and quick task to do. Home shoes/slippers should be a MUST! I don't get why people think that all that dirt from anywhere they walk during the day should go with them into their bedrooms😞; I really don't get it...
Great video. I was expecting to find tips to implement, but to my surprise I do these things on a daily basis. It goes to show how many things you do on autopilot. The first weeks you've got to remind yourself and then they've become a habit. 😊
That’s great! And yes, autopilot is a great way to describe it. The interesting thing is that I can totally tell when life gets busy and I let any of these 10 slide. Things can get out of control quickly when that happens! ❤️
I do all of my laundry in one day.(It works for me and the heated dryer drum is more energy efficient) However, the night before,I let all of my whites and/or towels soak in HOT water, laundry detergent and OXYCLEAN. I turn it on the next morning and my whites have never been whiter or more stain free.🙌🏻 Then I wash all of the other loads with cold water.
Great tip. I see so many You Tubers not even sorting colors when doing their laundry. It drives me crazy! It only takes one red item to turn your whites pink. 😮
I do want to try the overnight soak of whites. How often do you do all your laundry? Is that clothing, towels, bedding, everything? I strip towels, sheets, and anything that doesn't smell fresh once a week, which takes hours. Spreading it out and having a day for sheets, a day for towels, and washing other laundry daily keeps it manageable in our home.
I'm so lucky I'm organized, both in my thoughts and outwardly. Restoring order, putting everything in its place, and cleaning messes as I see them comes naturally to me. On the other hand, my partner has ADHD and a ton of thoughts swirling in his head, so he'll crack an egg on the counter and just leave any mess there. I used to get offended and think it was so inconsiderate that he left crumbs and other messes so I would have to clean the surface before I could prepare my breakfast but I've learned to accept that he has a lower standard of cleanliness and, by the time he finishes eating, he totally forgets about any cleanup that's needed other than putting dishes in the sink. Growing up with a SAHM who was an excellent homemaker, it was a surprise when I got out in the real world with roommates and partners who didn't have nearly the same baseline of what was normal/acceptable.
Good points, though, as someone who has ADHD distraction, I’ll emphasize that in no way is the STANDARD of tidiness different than a non ADHD person. The difference relates to difficulty maintaining focus
ADHD or not, letting a partner ‘get away with’ leaving a trail of mess - unwashed dishes, dirty countertops - for you to clean up simply enables a continuation of the problem. My partner and I eat at different time. He tends to be the messy one - simply doesn’t notice or mind a crumby or sticky surface. BUT there’s no way I’m going to clean up after him before I can make my dinner. We talked, I told him I’d really appreciate it if he left the kitchen clean and tidy, he’s a reasonable guy and doesn’t want to make my life harder. The message got through. Sure he’s easily distracted and always eager and ready to ‘get on with the next thing’. But that doesn’t mean he can’t learn a few simple new habits - a minute or three to wipe down a counter and rinse pot or two and a few dishes. I leave the kitchen clean for him; he can return the favour. This ADHD may (not saying it is, but may) be a convenient excuse. If a person can put dishes in the sink, they can surely wash and rinse them and put them in the drying rack. As they say, we teach people how to treat us.
@PatricioLima-pw5qn I'm struggling to live with my sister who is a slob, especially in the kitchen. I'm the Jack Lemon and she's the Walter Matheau in our family. I'm disabled with crippling chronic pain and manage to be clean as much as possible. Plus she moved into my home I worked many hard years to obtain and pay for. She has tried to get away with doing as she pleases by reacting with hurt feelings, pouting and starting arguments to deflect from her bad habits and behaviors. Until I reached a point of misery that demanded a showdown she always got away with it. I've resented being put in the position to be the bad guy but I learned to turn the tables on her and force her to be responsible for her own messes. I only wish I'd had the strength to do so starting on day one.
Those of us who didn't grow up in clean homes, or were never taught or included in "chores," have to decide what kind of home environment we want to live in and then establish the right habits. Some experts say that establishing a new habit takes 30 to 60 repetitions, other research shows that it can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days. Personally, if I'm super busy or under a lot of stress, cleaning and other new habits are the last thing on my mind. I have friends, though, who use cleaning to de-stress.
Using cold water does not make mixing lights with darks okay - the darks will dull whites and take up tiny dark fibres and white fibres on dark will ruin dark items - so I separate the laundry into colours and fabric types - I do every other task you mentioned every day and yes it works well to maintain order
Interesting! I suppose since we aren’t very fashion conscious people it hasn’t been an issue for us. We wear mainly jeans and T-shirts. But interesting insight! Thank you! ❤️
Tweeza57 I am with you. Yes laundry has to be separated. When something gets snuck into the wrong load the dye transfer is obvious, and yes, in cold water. Even without die transfer, lint colors and dingy clothing make all the clothing going in together a no for me. Whites get hot water in our home. Sheets and towels get stripped in hot water with washing soda and borax occasionally, as does workout clothing, just to keep things fresh smelling.
If I buy new jeans or new Tees in the same color I wash them with the older washed out clothes of the same color and the dye transforms and renews the old clothes.
Always separate laundry. How I was taught. Towels and t towels always separate, hot wash. Whites together. Colours together. Cold wash not suitable for some items. I also leave bed unmade for a while to air it.
I love the video. Most of these things i do everyday. I learned from my mother. 7 people in a😢 tiny house one bathroom. All beds made early in the morning no exceptions. Kitchen cleaned after every meal no dishes in the sink ever. I keep my house the same way. I get up early get my chores done first.
I have been working on some of these for the past few years . My thing I’m going to master now is the floors . I have had three back surgeries and now am battling Achilles tendinitis. When my floors are dirty my whole house feels dirty
What do you suggest doing about keeping street shoes OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE when you have guests, service providers, or tradespeople/workmen coming into your home?
Exactly, I always put things away, and don't let dishes pile up or clothes/mail lying around. With the beds made, adult things put away I never minded a toy, i.e. Barbies etc. being played with in the living room but when you're done put it in your room, thank you.
WOW! There are so many opposing views on this! I live in the U.S. and grew up with my family wearing shoes in the house. Back then it was considered normal, and actually unheard of, to remove shoes at the door. These days I think it’s a great idea to remove shoes at the door, although I haven’t started doing it.
When I lived for a year in Europe, my roommates were horrified at the idea of me wearing my "Metro shoes" into the house. We would take off our outdoor shoes, put them in a rack by the door, slip on our home shoes (usually some kind of easy slide or in the summer, flip-flops) and go on about our day within seconds. If you have everything set up correctly at the door (bench, shoe cabinet, door mat, etc.) then it's very easy and really does cut back on bringing dirt and filth into the house inadvertently.
When I was growing up, we were ordered to wear socks and shoes in the house. My mother was concerned about cold feet and stepping on a nail or other odd item. Now I change shoes in the house only because it’s more comfortable. I really don’t care. When guests come over I let them do what they want….they are the guests. I vacuum and wash the floor anyway. The worst are people who make you take your shoes off and you go home with dust and dog hair on your socks. That is 90% of houses I visit!! Then there was the woman who made me put footies over my shoes. She had just polished the floors and I slipped down the stairs.
I have relegated the broom to outside use only. I'm much more efficient in floor cleaning using a lightweight vacuum....a game-changer! Attachments for corners and baseboards are easy to pop on and off too. ❤
As a senior with limited mobility makes the dining only option difficult even though I know you are right😉 Having a tv in the eating area exasperates the situation!
I grew up in a clean home but on my own mine is trashed. I t hink the strictness my mom had and early up on saturday for cleaning , not leaving out puzzles, etc and always wanting my room done, no sitting on the bedspread, etc just drove me the opposite direction and I regret that now But my mom I think did a lot daily that I didn't really observe as she loved early mornings and even some of that time for herself and her and my dad before work - but I remember beds were always made by the person sleeping in them(!), kitchen area swept daily, sink stuff washed often as cooking went along but for sure after the meal, dishwasher loaded after dinner and run and unloaded each morning early before breakfast. usually a load of laundry going after work during the meal. and what drove me nuts was everything put away - the toaster was put away after use or my mom was nuts - but it was bothersome to get out every time but I have to admit things were so much tidier! I still remember the main schedule as I 'inherited' it during the summer LOL! whites, regulars, daddy's work clothes (very dirty), towels and sheets were 2 loads and shared the few towels left from during the weekly wash. they were usually saturday for sheets. I don't know how my mom ended up with a kid like me LOL my brother is the one of us who was good at quick cleaning
Oh wow, that’s really interesting. I bet you’re right in that you subconsciously went the opposite direction of strict cleanliness! But now, learning to do your own thing and figure out a system that is best for YOU! ❤️
The key is doing daily tasks so they don’t pile up for a Saturday marathon. Who wants to spend all day Saturday cleaning or dealing with a week’s worth of mail? I hate to doing paperwork but if I do it everyday, the job is so much easier. Laundry is done as needed. Who wants to spend hours taking care of laundry? Try doing daily tasks to make your life less stressful.
I love you home and I love that it's minimal. Less clutter means easier to clean. And you have 10 good tips. If people put everything away on a daily basis they will see less clutter and feel the home is neat. Cleaning the carpet is huge-it sets the pace for the rest of the home. It's been proven, a home that is straightened and not cluttered show a mind that is also organized.
This is very helpful and inspiring too. I am already into some of the things mentioned in your video, such as doing my laundaty almost every single day. I am 73 and living alone, still there is so much to do simply because i am not as fast as before, still i can nanage. This video has inspired me even more to keep my tiny house neat and clean. Thank you
I enjoyed watching this video. Since we live in 600 square feet of open space, everyone sees any clutter all of the time (If it isn't addressed.). So, I have made a chore chart. My daughter and I sleep on the only bed, and my husband chooses the couch, because he wants us to be more comfortable. He works all day outside of the home, so he doesn't make it home in time for chores, other than "fill the Berkey" or "take out the trash". So, my 9 year old and I make our sides of the bed. Then we go about doing our chores before breakfast; we don't eat breakfast until we've fed all of the animals (inside and out), scooped the poop, and taken it out. The chore chart has really helped us to see what chores need to be done more frequently and which chores might not be getting done at all (And it holds us accountable when we see we've done nothing or not so much. We each mark off our chores as we do them.). In S. AZ, we have the added frustration of being unable to use extra electricity between 4pm-8pm (Unless we want to pay double.). This severely causes an issue with getting laundry done and even washing dishes during those times. So, I do all of my chores that require electricity during homeschool. Also, because we live in S. AZ, we have a seed called "goats head" that you will not be happy to step on with bare feet, so we keep our shoes on; cats don't have shoes, and they bring them in too. We tried the whole "no shoes inside" thing. It hurt. We could try slippers. We do use cold water for our clothes, and in summer, there is no cold water here. The only thing we use hot water on is our sheets, towels, and cleaning rags (in separate loads). They get vinegar and dawn dish soap.
It's not just cleaning it's planning meals in and organizing shopping needs. I remove any frozen meats from the freezer the night before, like a chicken then conjure what I can make with it. Half a large cooked chicken can make a roast dinner with Coronation chicken salad for tomorrow. A beef roast if big enough can be made into three or four meals. Batch cooking reduces untidy kitchen too.
I never go to bed without making sure my downstairs is clean. Mopped, vacuumed, no dishes out, etc. it feels so good to wake up and go downstairs to a clean space.
Great video!! I think kids need to do more ,everything falls on the parents !! instead of kids or young adults sitting on the iPad or video games have them do 10 mins of putting toys and clothes away, load the dishwasher. So many adults I talk to say "my mom did everything" or, " we hired a house cleaner " and they have no organizational skills. I was a single parent my daughter would vacuum and clean up the apt a few times a week while I was at work, she has her own home now and she is so glad she learned to clean up and be responsible at a young age!! You all live together, everybody in the house should help out. If children learn to help out they might be neater 🛏 🧽🪣🧺
Sun41966 AMEN TO THAT! Parents who do everything for their kids are NOT doing them any favors. Just the opposite. Don't we love it when out marriage partner pitches in without being asked? Yes. So this good habit of cleaning one's own mess or jumping in to get things done eventually leads to more harmonious marriages and family life. HELPING and DOING for others is a form of LOVE. Everyone needs to do their share. Not just mom.❤
Watch out for indoor cats jumping into the warm dryer and a cat won't survive a dryer cycle. Look into the dryer every time you use it. I threw my clean wet laundry on top of my cat and she didn't move. Had I looked first I would have removed the cat. Some people like a neighbor had her dryer in her garage. My cat went through her dryer cycle. A year later another cat died in her dryer. She was forgetting to shut the dryer door.
Great list, thankful to say making headway in many of these areas. It is a good reminder were I can improve. The biggest improvement is not allowing piles to grow on flat surfaces and keep clear. The biggest need to work on is evaluating and decluttering. Thanks again.
Way ahead of you☺️. I’ve been doing all these tasks for decades😂. My biggest pet peeve is wearing shoes indoors. I shamelessly tell workmen to remove shoes. My family and close friends know better by now. My Gram taught me this as a little girl. Going through ca tx I was told that 85% of the germs in our house enters on soles of shoes😖.

Since getting a dog 2 years ago, odor has become an issue even in my clean home. It's not good for a dog's skin to bathe it more than every 2-3 weeks, but they can smell sooner than that. Slowly but surely we're removing all rugs and carpet on the main floor where the dog is and that's making a big difference. We don't allow him on the furniture. But if you have tricks for carpet odor for those not yet removed, I'd love to know.
Good move opting for the hard flooring rather than the carpet! I don’t know of any tricks for the smells of pets, since we don’t have one…but maybe someone else will share their advice! ❤️
I clean with vinegar and water, and baking soda. Both of those help remove odors. I have dogs and cats, and once Ive vacuumed a room, I do a few spritzes of vinegar into the air. Also, an air purifier is helpful. What an animal eats has an impact on how it smells so maybe consult with your vet on your pet's diet. Hard floors are the way to go, and now there are washable area rugs. I have rugs from Tumble that you peel off the top of the rug and wash and dry it yourself, these are amazing and the whole house feels fresher yet you have some coziness from rugs.
We only wear house slippers or dedicated house shoes inside our home. A few years ago, we had LVP flooring installed in all the public areas of our home. We don’t ask guests to remove their shoes because our flooring is cleaned routinely.
Great list Angela! I do most of these things daily but need to work in a few more things/ routines like the nightly reset (I’m often first to go to bed so that messes me up). I do love freshly neatly made beds! I’m not motivated to do other chores until beds are made. I hate dealing with mail especially junk mail (such as waste of resources) so it gets dealt with daily. The dining table is used but not in the way I’d like 😅 I’m the only one in the house that tries to keep the table cleared off 🤷♀️ I need to improve on sweeping daily. The indoor shoes is a struggle (I can’t control other adults in the house). My biggest struggle is having the energy due to my heart health so Decluttering as I go has become a routine autopilot thing for me which helps. Being the only adult in the house who cares about things keeps me busy enough tidying behind others but it helps me feel better. Hey my 7 yr old grandson says he likes that Mimi (me) loves her home and takes care of it. So guess who’s home he enjoys most? 👍😬🥰 At least he’s learning from my example. I’m looking forward to more of your encouraging videos! I look forward to seeing you each Tuesday morning ❤ God bless you
Habits are especially important when health issues are present. Knowing what to prioritize is so helpful. So great to hear that your grandson enjoys his time in your home! ❤️
That happened to me many years ago but then I got an idea and started setting the table daily. The table always looked nice and everyone stopped putting things on it. Eventually I didn't have to do that as they were retrained, lol.
I try to incorporate most of these with the exception of not making the bed. I have allergies and it is better to let the bed air out each day to help keep dust mites at bay.
We leave our shoes on a rug just inside the door to avoid dirt inside the house and having to clean carpets so frequently. I do a steam mopping on the wood floors about once a week to clean the dust and sock traffic in between, making sure the shoe molding gets a swipe too. It makes the whole house look cleaner and smell better.
I have a dog, she doesn't wear shoes. But, it will help us keep a healthy immune response. I use a mop and homemade Aromatherapy spray to keep the carpets, rugs and lino under control. This method helps with dog hair removal also.
Keep a throw rig and paw wipe bin near the door the dog goes in and out. A cloth, and spray bottle in a caddy makes such a difference. Make sure the mat can go through the laundry and maybe have a spare so it can be changed out.
I have a one minute rule. If I can put something away properly, wipe or wash etc within a minute, I do it. Everything has its place. I raised 6 children in a clean and fun house.
I started making my bed in my 50’s and now cannot stand not too. The mail thing is an issue with my husband makes me crazy. I started going thru it when he is gone because I can’t stand the piles. When we have company he would put it in a bag and then throw it in garage. When we moved he had 20 bags of mail in garage. I never wear shoes in house.
I do 3 everyday working on putting clothes away at night. I do a tiny nightly declutter or actually tidy. Oh and when u see a spill or smudge most of the time it gets wiped. Work in progress.
Cleaning.bed room and keeping the kitchen clean. Counter tops are cleaned ever night with a mixture of venigar and water.. It looks so clean when I go to the kitchen in the morning.
Ty for your ideas! In my home have to have rugs on a slab. Tried to keep them clean by using the carpet cleaner but with high iron well water it sure made them looking orange instead of tan :(. Another problem we have is the well is shallow so have to use less water to clean with. Everyone has to do the best with what they have.
Really great ideas! Thanks. We are starting to implement those ideas in our home now. We’ve been lax about this and we are trying to make new habits. So your advice is welcome and timely. Thanks again.😊
Great video and I subscribed. My husband of 40 years spent two tours in the Navy. He is a neat-nick. He does a lot to help out around the house. He's very fussy. I used to do a better job of keeping the house in order when our kids were young and in school for the day. Now, my husband is mostly retired and around all day and we have one son living at home who works remotely. So there are people around all the time. I think it stifles me in a way I can't describe. However, I wanted to add one other interesting tid bit. So my mom "loved her home". Every day she cleaned. She would always say to me, "I'm in the west room today!". (She'd be cleaning the west room). That's how she cleaned ... a deep clean in a particular room ... daily ... and then rotate rooms. After I had surgery several years ago, I contacted a cleaning service just to ask a few questions. They told me that they started things out by deep cleaning one room of the house ... one room per week ... such a deep clean, they said ... that eventually they would do a little cleaning on every room, each week. I never did follow through with a cleaning service.
I am 70 and retired a few years ago. My youngest son and his family just moved out but left a lot of stuff for me to do. I am dealing with a bad back that caused me to retire. This year I was told that I have bone on bone knees. I am dealing with all of that but I do have to use a cane or a walker. This makes it very hard to do a lot of things. I used to clean my kitchen floor with scrub brushes to get the corners. Not anymore. I know that I need to hire someone to actually clean my house. I am working on organizing and it isn't going well. I am going to follow your posts to see if they can help me. Any tips you have for my situation would be appreciated. Using a cane or a walker is like losing the use of an arm and it makes it very difficult.
Your situation would definitely make things more difficult. The good news is that you have the correct mindset about it! You realize your limitations but also are not willing to just give up and do nothing at all. I really would encourage you to hire help or ask for a close friend and family member to work side by side with you. They could hold something up and you could give a yes or no to letting it go. It would still be slow progress - but at least it would be progress! ❤️
A good habit I have incorporated into my life - every morning when I leave my bedroom and head down stairs, I wash the foyer (I have a long walkway) with vinegar and water. It’s now automatic and takes less than 5 minutes - and I really like that I can greet folks at anytime. I then get my morning coffee and start my day…
I'm listening and laughing because I'm guilty of most of what's mentioned (not doing daily) and there'sonly two people in the house 🙃. Inspiring video 👍👏.
The discussion on shies in the home is interesting. In our home we have indoor shoes, you would be amazed at the bad things on the so,es of shoe. However, i believe that most Americans keep shoes on. In Canada not so much and I live in Canada but I am not Canadian. Europeans and Asians tend to remove shoes, Denmark and Sweden definitely and very much so in Japan. For myself it is keeping the unclean from outside away from cleanliness in my home. To each his own.
absolutely...outside shoes stay at the door; indoor shoes only worn inside (same with the dog: rinse feet in cup of warm water & dry before coming in from the yard!)
These are all great points, thanks. After a huge downgrade, a new life, and moving, I'm in the middle of dedicating a spot for everything... I've been trying to implement the shoe thing for a while.. What do you do when workmen refuse to take their boots off? These are mean working with chemicals. I'm 60, need these and other habits in place. Having a "clean" home, doesn't necessarily mean that its healthy and safe for the WHOLE family. Mites, mold, toxins, carcinogens, chemicals (cleaning etc), fumes, smoke, perfumes, laundry products, baits, aerosol cans, dust, dander, bacteria..... list goes on. Keeping smells at bay.. If you have pets take some time to think about them. We all want them to live the longest life possible. Are you preventing cancer or feeding it? Stay diligent and proactive for them. I have a 14 yr old golden and she's leaving this unit smelly, so time for an air purifier If you have ANY pets at all and would like to learn how to keep your home and environment safer, join the Facebook Community Group "As Nature Intended". Tell them Karen and Co sent you Stay curious
Cleaning comes very naturally to me and always has. I also have a pets and it gets dirty, but I don’t let things pile up. If a task takes less than 5 minutes to do when I’m in a hurry or don’t feel like it doing it, I do it anyways. Also, everything has a designated spot, I don’t let clutter like papers pile up, I get rid of clothes/things, I don’t want anymore very regularly. For clothes, I say go through your belongings every season and for things you want, show respect to your items. Showcase what you have and if that’s not the case then keep things tucked away with respectfully. Showing gratitude for your belongings builds a sense of what actually matters to you, rather than keeping things like they are junk.
Being organized also helps. Don't let things build up. Make sure dishes are washed before going to bed. Don't have too much furniture or too many decorations because then you have all that much more to clean or take care of. Get rid of excess things you never use. View hoarder videos on occasion, and you may find that this provides all the motivation to start paying attention to your own surroundings. Those thoughts help me out with my habits. I agree with you on shoes. I think Americans are the only nation that walk around the house with outside shoes on. Controlling odors is important too for the reason you stated.
These are all really good, time-tested pro tips. I agree with all of them except the last. Although a lot can be said about the value of a cold water wash, the idea of laundering different colors and fabrics together in the same load makes me cringe. Instead, just set up multiple bins of an approximate capacity as the machine's maximum load capacity . You can stack them if you are short on space. In that way, the clothes are sorted as they go in; and, when the bin is full, it's time to do that load. P.S. I have another pro tips for all you clean Queens out there. Never exit a room without scanning it to see if there is something you can take with you that witll bring it closer to its "proper place" (because as everupme knows, untimiately evenything should go in its proper place).
And I have a cleaning box/container I carry around while cleaning, filled with most cleaning supplies, cloths, trash bags, anything I need for regular cleaning. Small portable vac. too. Less walking for me.
thanks for this video, besides the 10 points you mentioned, the bathroom, it is a daily routine to clean it quickly, like the sink and the counter not as deep cleaning as it is done on the weekend.
Making the bed helps my brain. It is hard because of how it is placed in our room. My husband prefer I don't. He knows that because of my chronic pain it takes a lot of me.
I'm a bit like that but with an autoimmune disease, NNO, which left my right hand nearly useless. But no matter the struggle after making my bed the room looks so much better. I did end up moving my bed a bit and getting help sometimes though. May God bless and help you.
I feel for you. After I got an autoimmune disease, NMO, and lost the use of my right hand I ended up moving my bed a bit and getting a little help from my granddaughter because the room looks so much nicer if the bed is made. Now needing to rest due to fatigue it's so nice to be in a pretty, organized, clean room. I'm a lot better now and do it by myself, I just take my time. I hope you feel better and may God bless and help you.

@DarlinAkaDarlene The crazy thing is that when I was healthier, my husband and I would fight about the bed being done. He prefers it being undone always. (He didn't have much of a bed when growing up.) I was raised to make property or my mom would make me redo till it was done in accordance of her way as young as 5 years old. I struggle and had to do it +7 times someday. I was told that I inorder to someday earn my husband's love I have some many things to learn property. My husband LOVES me without me being a slave or a professional maid, my mom is so jealous. I Love to cook and enjoy figuring how to prepare food out of the blue 😋.
Well, technically it is NOT spotless - no home is…but I just make it a point to always keep on top of things. I use a homemade solution to clean everything ❤️
I do all of these things except for insuring my dining table remains cleared and keeping a donation box at the ready, so now I see 2 areas to improve. Also, my office/craft room seems perpetually cluttered because just about everything I do in that room is working on projects in various phases.
. i have certain habits too . make bed right away so it lasts all day . and don't waste walking from around the house without carrying something or doing some little chore . don't waste time watching water boil . a little dirt is ok with me because i am letting my 2 birds fly around free all the time . they also spend time in their cage but voluntarily . i like freedom and comfort .
I wash a few dishes (I always have hot, soapy water in the sink) every time I heat up something in the microwave. I USUALLY get a dishpan full done in those three to four minutes!🙌🏻
I am good at the paper management. I let the bed air with the window open a crack until after breakfast, then I straighten up. Trash , laundry and the zone of the week work. Thursday is declutter day and trash night, Friday is gym bags and car wash. We take off our shoes and put in the boot tray.Floors are a daily, with the help of the Roomba . Clean sheets once a week. Windows are seasonal, four times a year.
Similar for me. Bed airing is essential! And not wearing outside shoes inside. Yuck! As with waking up to a clean kitchen, who wants to come home from vacation to a dirty house. I always clean throughly before I leave.
Same with the cleaning before we leave for an extended time! It may add a bit of stress in that moment but it is so relaxing to come home to a clean space!!! ❤️
Which of these are YOU already doing daily?
We've gotten in the habit of shoes off when we come inside and have house shoes. More hygienic too. We also open up the back and front doors (screen doors closed) in order to air out the place with a cross breeze. Smells fresher too.😊 😊😊
Hi Angela,
No dirty dishes for me, lol, so I wash as I cook; it never takes me more than 3 minutes and it's all done very quickly because there is no old, hardened dirt on them.

That definitely works! 😃
I’m a 74 year old grandma. I’ve recently found your RUclips channel while my husband and I were on the road. Great ideas which I’ve known but fall back into bad habits. When we got home, I cleaned off our dining table. When my husband came in, he asked, “Are we getting company?” 😊
lol
I know this bc most of our tables are the dump spaces.
My house is clean but messy. I don’t have energy for both so I prefer cleaning first.
I believe the bed should be aired first
we’ve gotten into the bad habit of filling the sink with dishes.
Those in the house, usually like to bring in and drop on table regardless of how
many times Instate it’s dirty.
Every night we need to straighten up before going to bed.
I don’t want to do laundry every day.
Shoes off inside should be a rule but what about the animals? We don’t have a solution for this yet?
Ha ha! That’s great! ❤️
Yes my table is always a mess!
Interesting! I wonder if there are any social studies done on that! Ha ha! ❤️
Yes! Absolutely! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottageyep, my lotto don’t put it down, put it away.
The reason for making the bed is that it is the largest item in the room, so the room immediately looks better when the bed is made.
Absolutely! That’s the truth! ❤️
@@Toozelwoozle70 me too, always let the bed air out. You slept all night and you sweat it air it out and dry it out
1. Make your bed every morning (try to finish in 1-2 mins)
2. Deal with junk mail before it even gets in the house
3. USE your dining table for meals (so it won’t become a dumping station)
4. Have dedicated areas for items (hang up clothing, put small appliances away etc)
5. Leave all outside shoes at the door
6. Sweep/vacuum high traffic areas daily
7. Clean any spills/ messes immediately
8. For freshness use your vent hood, open windows, clean litter box often
9. Wash or put dishes in dishwasher (keep counters clear)
10. Keep a donation box and often evaluate if an item is still useful
Yep! That about sums it up! ❤️
I knew I’d find someone who would make the list! ❤ Thank you 🙏🏽
@ yah I was hoping to find one myself but too lazy to search forever. You’re very welcome!
thank you, the only thing I don't do is vacuum high traffic areas daily and do not have a donation box, its a closet.

Right on point. I really like the way she presents her ideas.
I always air the bed with windows open for an hour. Before remaking.

"a place for everything and everything in its place" a cluttered home is a cluttered mind " and PICK UP AFTER YOURSELVES
Yes! ❤️
@@conniemurphyover70stillgla47 clutter can be a sign of C-PTSD and or ADHD. I just learnt this!
A clean house really helps my brain remain calm! ❤️
I love FlyladyPlus system
Interesting. I have never considered doing all of that each day - but I can see who it might really become a habit that is quick and easy to do!
We also use paper towels instead of a hand towel. So I do the same thing and it works! What a great tip! ❤
Great idea!
Washing towels and eliminating mildew smells is important. Putting clean laundry straight into the dryer and folding and putting away is a big help.
Yes, I agree! ❤️
Why not hang things on the clothesline if you have decent weather?
"Always leave a room better than you found it."
Great advice! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage Another favorite saying of mine is "the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement."
That’s a good one too! ❤️
My mother always said and did that! Miss her so much.
Yes, I can understand that for sure! We have a daughter who needs to wear shoes and leg braces at all times - and it’s not always convenient! ❤️
I can relate to this. Even to the point when I visit people I stress about taking off my shoes and the embarrassment of awkwardly trying to in front of people. 😢
Awesome tips. 1:25pm
My daughter keeps a box of those blue, throw-away, shoe covers by the door for elderly visitors, repairmen, and pet sitter!
I always make my bed first in the morning, but if I strip my bed for washing, I will let my bed stay unmade all day to allow fresh air onto the mattress with the windows wide open. That way, the mattress will freshen up and smell clean, before I put the sheets and bedding back on the bed.
Good idea! ❤️

So very true! ❤️
@@carola.6990 If each person had early training, lol.
Thank you so much for these wonderful tips to maintaining a clean home. It was concise, informative, and most of all doable! I have 5 children, and when they were little my solution for the bigger cleaning jobs was a house cleaner. I realize that that is not always affordable for many, but just having to only do the little, tidy daily jobs allowed me more time to: spend with my children, play chauffeur, make nutritious homemade meals, bake, and quite frankly stay sane! lol
Absolutely! No shame in bringing in an extra set of hands when needed! ❤️
Such a pleasure to live in a clean home! ❤
Absolutely! ❤️
@@twicebaked553 Without being neurotic about it please !!
The thing my husband and I do everyday, whenever we use the bathroom sink is dry/wipe the basin. It always looks sparkly!
Good job! ❤️
Same! I feel like I can’t function optimally if things aren’t in order. I got that from my mom as well. Have a great day! ❤️
I always wonder…WHY do people put the headboard of their bed in front of a window?? Why block the window light when there is other wall space? Also, I find it unsettling to have a head under a window, for many reasons.
We actually have our bed in that location for only half of the year- the other half of the time it is under the small window. It works well for us! ❤️
Yes. The more often we do any thing the easier it is for sure! ❤️
I agree with letting guests choose, most are happy to comply but there are lots of reasons why some wouldn't want to do it. I used to have terrible eczema on my feet and would've been too embarrassed to take off shoes and socks, I would however opt to keep my socks on
I’m just o
My tip is to have a small vacuum (chargeable in the closet) wherever you see dirt and dust. I have three of them and It has helped me a lot. I use them under the dining table, in the bathrooms and on the stairs all the time. It really takes a minute to take it out, clean and put it back. When you do this you need to do a major vacuuming once a week at most
Awesome tip! I kind of wish we would have included an outlet in our broom closet for a vacuum charging station! ❤️
We use house shoes (slippers too hot) so we have super comfy dedicated home pair. Outside shoes at door. For the few times guests come over each year, they can do what they want & we just wash floors after (unless they have muddy boots on lol)
That’s a good idea! ❤️
@@home_yesIf one insists one shoes off please supply slippers.
That brown couch looks so comfortable. In my experience, the daily vacuum/sweep/or mop in high-traffic areas is the most critical thing when you have a shedding dog! Then the kitchen at night, then the constant decluttering.
Oh yes, with a pet I could see that being a very high priority! ❤️
Just noticed that your brown couch looks exactly like mine! 😂 Yes it is comfy!
Ha ha! It is! That couch is one of our best finds - price wise! Was a floor model at Menards of all places…it’s Ashley brand and cost us only $800! ❤️
I do all of my laundry in one day.(It works for me and the heated dryer drum is more energy efficient)
However, the night before,I let all of my whites and/or towels soak in HOT water, laundry detergent and OXYCLEAN. I turn it on the next morning and my whites have never been whiter or more stain free.🙌🏻 Then I wash all of the other loads with cold water.
Great tip! I’ll have to give that a try! ❤️
Great tip!! Thanks for sharing!! 😊
Great tip. I see so many You Tubers not even sorting colors when doing their laundry. It drives me crazy! It only takes one red item to turn your whites pink. 😮
@ EXACTLY!😖
Very interesting! Good job noticing the differences between the two of you, and being able to work together! ❤️
Thank you so much for putting in the effort to understanding someone with adhd. Your loving and kind comment made me cry.
Yes, that’s very true! And habits do take time to form! ❤️
@@jak9483 yes, especially jeans and ice dye stuff in dark colors there seems to be a load of two with lots of transfer.
Oh wow! In a small house I can image that keeping on top of things is even more important! ❤️
I have been working on some of these for the past few years . My thing I’m going to master now is the floors . I have had three back surgeries and now am battling Achilles tendinitis. When my floors are dirty my whole house feels dirty
Oh man, I’m sure that your back issues have made it more difficult to clean. Sorry to hear that! ❤️
What do you suggest doing about keeping street shoes OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE when you have guests, service providers, or tradespeople/workmen coming into your home?
Usually people will ask if they should take their shoes off and I just tell them “yes please” ❤️
@@cheryldavis8776 Provide disposable shoe covers or slippers.
Exactly, I always put things away, and don't let dishes pile up or clothes/mail lying around. With the beds made, adult things put away I never minded a toy, i.e. Barbies etc. being played with in the living room but when you're done put it in your room, thank you.
Great! I think if a family sticks with it, things never get terribly out of control ❤️
WOW! There are so many opposing views on this! I live in the U.S. and grew up with my family wearing shoes in the house. Back then it was considered normal, and actually unheard of, to remove shoes at the door. These days I think it’s a great idea to remove shoes at the door, although I haven’t started doing it.
Yes. It kind of surprised me that it was so controversial- to each their own honestly! ❤️
But how do you get the husband to cooperate if he wasn’t brought up to take his shoes off?
We wore shoes in the house because mom darned our socks.
I grew up with a very mother who constantly cleaned. I'm so happy it rubbed off on me. I do all of those things you mentioned on a daily basis
Yes! I think a lot of my habits came from my mom as well! ❤️
I have relegated the broom to outside use only. I'm much more efficient in floor cleaning using a lightweight vacuum....a game-changer! Attachments for corners and baseboards are easy to pop on and off too. ❤
A cordless vacuum is something I will be considering in the future. For now, the broom seems to be my tool of choice! ❤️
As a senior with limited mobility makes the dining only option difficult even though I know you are right😉
Having a tv in the eating area exasperates the situation!
Do what works best for you! ❤️
I make my bed every morning as soon as I get up, and fold back the bedcovers in a decorative way, so the bed can air out and it looks tidy.
Great idea! ❤️
I understand..

It really makes a difference when you can keep things tidy, it’s a big mood booster too! ❤️
Thank you
Great! ❤️
Oh my!! I’ve never heard of the goats head seed before! Ouch! ❤️
Yes. Batch cooking is so helpful! ❤️
I never go to bed without making sure my downstairs is clean. Mopped, vacuumed, no dishes out, etc. it feels so good to wake up and go downstairs to a clean space.
That is such a great habit to have! ❤️
Yes! Agree it is good for kids to learn those skills! ❤️
Yes, all three of my boys were reared similarly.

Grandmas have a special wisdom, don’t they? ❤️
Parents were from Europe - we never wore shoes inside the house !!

Try sprinkling bicarbonate of soda on the carpet before vacuuming and also pop an used peppermint tea bag into the bag in the vacuum cleaner. 🐶 ❤
My one problem with this list is the laundry in cold water thing. My washer won’t get my clothes clean in Less than very hot water.
Interesting!! I suppose not all machines are created equal! Do you have a top load washer or front loader? ❤️
I have a top load. My old sudsaver Maytag was an awesome washer. It lasted 33 years!
Adding indoor plants especially orchids are great for keeping air fresh.
Interesting about orchids. I wonder if they would grow here in the cold north! Ha! ❤️
We only wear house slippers or dedicated house shoes inside our home. A few years ago, we had LVP flooring installed in all the public areas of our home. We don’t ask guests to remove their shoes because our flooring is cleaned routinely.
Lvp flooring is pretty awesome! We have that in our basement level and it is so easy to care for! ❤️
What is LVP flooring?

Making a bed gives me a feeling of clean
Yes it does! ❤️
The dining table is used but not in the way I’d like 😅 I’m the only one in the house that tries to keep the table cleared off 🤷♀️
I need to improve on sweeping daily.
Get a Uvilizer being advertised now. Kills mites, etc. This product is awesome.
I’ve never heard of that! Interesting! ❤️
Great! Do what works for you! ❤️
Need to air out the bed for several hours before making it. Otherwise it traps smells
Does your steam mop use only water? I’ve always wondered how they would work on solid wood floors…❤️
I could see how it would be important to have a handle on pet hair! ❤️
I have a one minute rule. If I can put something away properly, wipe or wash etc within a minute, I do it. Everything has its place. I raised 6 children in a clean and fun house.
That’s awesome! ❤️
Oh my! The mail thing would be tough! ❤️
I do 3 everyday working on putting clothes away at night. I do a tiny nightly declutter or actually tidy. Oh and when u see a spill or smudge most of the time it gets wiped. Work in progress.
Great job! ❤️
Cleaning.bed room and keeping the kitchen clean.
Counter tops are cleaned ever night with a mixture of venigar and water.. It looks so clean when I go to the kitchen in the morning.
I bet it smells great too! ❤️
Absolutely! So the best you can with what you have! ❤️
I love your dining room! So much natural light!
Thanks! ❤️
Really great ideas! Thanks. We are starting to implement those ideas in our home now. We’ve been lax about this and we are trying to make new habits. So your advice is welcome and timely. Thanks again.😊
That’s great! ❤️

Oh that is very interesting (one room at a time with a deep clean) ❤️
Great tips 🙌🏼 Organization is key and creating these habits are super important! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! ❤️
I keep dvds in a zip up notebook. You can keepp tons of movies, music in smaller spave
Yes, very true! ❤️
A good habit I have incorporated into my life - every morning when I leave my bedroom and head down stairs, I wash the foyer (I have a long walkway) with vinegar and water. It’s now automatic and takes less than 5 minutes - and I really like that I can greet folks at anytime. I then get my morning coffee and start my day…
Wow! Great job! ❤️
New puppy (yesterday). Has pood on the hall floor twice today already. Pet mats everywhere too. But can do fetch already.
What to do about muddy dogs paws- when you can’t catch them darting tru the door. Also any advice on shedding
Sorry, I am not a pet owner so I’m probably not the best person to ask! ❤️
I'm listening and laughing because I'm guilty of most of what's mentioned (not doing daily) and there'sonly two people in the house 🙃. Inspiring video 👍👏.
Ha! Well we all let things slide from time to time. It’s ok! ❤️
Yes! the cultural differences are very interesting ! ❤️
absolutely...outside shoes stay at the door; indoor shoes only worn inside (same with the dog: rinse feet in cup of warm water & dry before coming in from the yard!)
I have a 14 yr old golden and she's leaving this unit smelly, so time for an air purifier

Thanks for the tips! ❤️
Great advice… I follow most of them however every other week i clean real good… some people call it spring cleaning..
Yes! Sometimes it takes a little more elbow grease! ❤️
I love your approach to keeping things tidy and showing gratitude for belongings! ❤️
Actually I think you’re right on watching hoarders. A great visual of how bad it can get! ❤️
Great tip! Scanning around takes no time at all! Also: thanks for your thoughts on the laundry! ❤️
And I have a cleaning box/container I carry around while cleaning, filled with most cleaning supplies, cloths, trash bags, anything I need for regular cleaning. Small portable vac. too.
Less walking for me.
I also have a cleaning caddy. Makes it really easy! ❤️
Thanks for the short, easy list.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! ❤️
thanks for this video, besides the 10 points you mentioned, the bathroom, it is a daily routine to clean it quickly, like the sink and the counter not as deep cleaning as it is done on the weekend.
I could see how that would really make the bathroom less of a burden to clean! ❤️

Instead of having a museum looking home.
The bed should be left to air, I fold my upper bedding over the top of the bed neatly, therefore the bed airs.
I could see airing out for a bit ❤️
I am able to do this now, but when i was a full time working mom of three, it was difficult
Yes! Kids definitely do throw some extra excitement into the mix! ❤️
Thanks so much for all of these helpful ideas!!😊
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Good job on this video!
Thanks so much! ❤️
Your home is spotless. I'm curious to know what are the best cleaning products for surfaces , etc.
Oh the craft room/area mess…I can relate! ❤️
. i have certain habits too . make bed right away so it lasts all day . and don't waste walking from around the house without carrying something or doing some little chore . don't waste time watching water boil . a little dirt is ok with me because i am letting my 2 birds fly around free all the time . they also spend time in their cage but voluntarily . i like freedom and comfort .
I wash a few dishes (I always have hot, soapy water in the sink) every time I heat up something in the microwave. I USUALLY get a dishpan full done in those three to four minutes!🙌🏻
House birds! I would be terrified! Ha ha! I bet they love the freedom though! ❤️
Couldn’t imagine the mess from bird droppings.
@@rosydykun2104 . there can be worse things . birds are actually very clean .
I hate housework so, no. I'm not doing this every day. I have a blitz on a Saturday and whatever isn't done thrn has to wait till the next weekend
Do what works for you! ❤️
Really good stuff, thanks!
Thanks for watching! ❤️
I am good at the paper management. I let the bed air with the window open a crack until after breakfast, then I straighten up. Trash , laundry and the zone of the week work. Thursday is declutter day and trash night, Friday is gym bags and car wash. We take off our shoes and put in the boot tray.Floors are a daily, with the help of the
Roomba . Clean sheets once a week. Windows are seasonal, four times a year.
Sounds like a really good system you have going there! ❤️
These are good.. the thought process is just as important as the actual cleaning. I do many of these.. some I never thought about
