Great review, nice to see some positivity for a change, seems like the headset has mostly been panned. Mine arrives today, in a couple of hours supposedly. I've got a Quest 2, which I love but want a really premium PCVR experience, especially for Microsoft Flight Simulator. I have a 10850k and a 3090 so should be able to get the most out of it. I'm hoping that coming only from Oculus headsets I'll see a bigger improvement than you coming from a G2.
I'm considering buying the Vive Pro 2, I'd like to know your thoughts on it as well! I've never owned a VR headset yet, so I've been jumping between the G2, Pro 2 and Index... I can't decide what's the best setup, the only conclusion I've made so far is I want the Index knuckles :D
@@PurplProto if you've never owned a headset get the Quest 2 it's a no brainer and awesome. I'm undecided on the Pro 2. Yesterday I decided it was garbage and packed it up to return but I've got it out again tonight and giving it another go. The face gasket is really wide compared the Quest 2 probably to accommodate the wider FOV and I cant fit into comfortably. The screens are fantastic but the lenses are crap, tons of glare and godrays, the worst I've seen in a headset. It cost me £1300 and I'm disappointed so far but also thinking I really like the wider FOV, built in headphones and screens so I'm still experimenting with it
@@PurplProto ok I've just spent another hour comparing Half Life Alyx side by side with the Quest 2. Point of reference I'm running an i9 10850k 32GB ram and a 3090. I just cannot eliminate the glare and I tried four different VR covers. There's no way this thing is worth the money, providing you have no ideological objections to Facebook the Quest 2 is the best headset choice by far. I run it at 5408 x 2736 resolution and it's clearer than the Pro 2. The screens aren't as good, you can tell the Pro 2 screens are better but the lenses are so bad its like watching an 8K TV with cling film on. If both headsets were priced the same I'd still go with the Quest 2.
Hello there.. could you please contact vive, the Latest firmware update for the vive pro 2 created a huge column mismatch on some units..Its a pixelgrid you see when you move your head..Alot off people on the reddit forum and even the vive forum talks about it..But they dont seem to care.. It need a fix(column fix) in a new firmware if possible.. I have this problem too,if i move my head you see vertical scanlines(so then it looks like a lowress headset) Some valve index units had this also in the beginning..
G2 is good but such a shame about the small FOV and sweetspot. Quest 2 has huge sweetspot. Still waiting for these companies to get it right. All I want is OLED with Index FOV, Quest 2 sweetspot and G2 clarity.
as Ru_Dolph said, your comment doesn't even make sense, The Varjo is out of monetary reach for most consumers. You can always get insane tech compared to the rest of the industry if you have to sell a kidney to get it.
i'd probably go for the vp2 because of the ease of use. i find the setup with the g2 and the knuckles far from convenient. i have the same issues, very annoying. but since i use it almost only for simracing without the need of controllers, i think i stick to the g2. maybe that changes if good triple a games coming out. (im loosing hope here). but maybe by then the index2 might already be available 😳
Yeah, I would stay with your G2 till more information from the Valve index 2 specs comes out. The Vive Pro 2 could have been a banger, but the small bad decisions add up: -bad mic (the original vive which I have has a better mic) -tight audio strap (from what I seen it looks too big making your ears hot) -square lens at the top (they brake immersion since the view is cut off at the top)
Im in the same boat as you. Keep me g2 or keep the pro 2🤔🥴 im using a broken htc pro instead of steam dongles. And i have no problem at all. The pro 2 did not fit my face that good cause it is to wide. My G2 fits like a glove. The sound is weaker in the pro 2. The g2 wins little bit over the pro 2 in everything, but not the fov. If im keeping my pro 2, i do have to sell the g2 so i dont use it😆
@Vincent Tuminello For someone with the original 2016 Vive (with original controllers and base stations), would you say VP2 (headset only) is the best upgrade path? I might get the index controllers/base stations eventually, but just in terms of headset, is it a worthy upgrade to the OG Vive?
Im in the same boat as you, struggling to figure out which headset I gonna keep but I also have a Pimax 8KX so I gotta factor that headset in while making my decision too. I found that the G2 has a sharper image than the Pro 2, and this was after fiddling with Super sampling. My PC specs are 10900KF CPU and 3090 GPU. The pixels are smaller on the Pro 2 and I have to really struggle to see them, I can see the G2 pixels relatively easily if Im looking for them. The god rays on the Pro 2 really suck, sure you can start overlooking them after a while in gameplay but I came from some headsets that have really low god rays... Anyhow Im waiting on my G2 face printed mod adapter face cushion thingy so Im hoping my G2 will have better FOV. Thats the thing that sucks about the G2 is FOV, the Pro2 has a nice FOV. Im going to download TESTHMD to find out exactly what my FOV is with both headsets with modded face cushions on both. Thanks for the vid. Cheers!!
@@protechnh Oh man dont get me started, LOL. Well Pimax sometimes isnt as plug and play as the name brand headsets. The colors arent as good as G2 or Pro 2, colors arent "bad" just not as good, image is sharp and clear and very close if not the same as the G2 sharpness, SDE is about same as the G2, of course the FOV is amazing, no god rays and if the 8KX does have them they arent noticeable to me. I am one of those that suffers from eye strain with most Pimax headsets. I was a Kickstarter backer and had the 5K+, 8K and now 8KX and i had the eye strain from all of them. I feel like the Pimax headsets are always in the Beta, like we are the Guinee pigs. Let me know if you need anymore comparisons Ill try my best!
@@OdyBeRidin im tired of pimax bullshit prototype stuff ... to run 90 hz native I need to reverse to some nvidia driver from februaury! looking into these two for an upgrade but my main motivation is that in addition to ease of use Im getting a sharper image quality. Your comment is making me keep my pimax lol I use only small FOV and tbh Im really happy with the sweet spot and image clarity. I use pimax only for simracing so its ok, but the Vive seems to have equal FOV (pimax small), higher hz (pimax 90hz) and sharper image quality. all this added to the ease of use makes the vive my next upgrade. BUT if you think the image quality is not a step up, then im really worried about the sweet spot because people seem to forget how big the sweet spot in pimax is. At the end since im using my pimax in small fov, there is no reason to keep a pimax for me and the sweet spot isnt strong enough. thoughts?
I've just returned my Vive Pro 2 and will stick with my G2. When it comes to games like DCS, the G2 is by far a better choice. The clarity is night and day difference.
Nice video, well I have an index and a G2 the visuals on the G2 are far superior than the index but you can super sample on the index to catch up and the index just works so I flip back and forth between the 2 headsets allot I was interested in the HTC Vive pro 2 but after hearing about the glare which I hate on the index and not being as clear as the G2 I feel I'll just wait for the next index or psvr2
Returned the Vive Pro 2. The picture quality sharpness does not match that of the G2, not to mention the godrays and uncomfortable bulkiness of the design. That said, the FOV is amazing and the colours are better than the G2.
The Vive pro 2 may have a wider FOV but the vertical FOV is so bad. Even my Quest 2 has higher vfov. That fact alone should be enough for anyone to return it. When you're being looked down on by a lowly Quest 2 user then it's time to return it.
Might be just a question of personal face shape / using thinner pads. The actual rendered VP2 vFOV is 6 degrees higher than the G2, and only 1.5 degrees lower than the Q2.
Man, you really count cons, because of a Frankenstein mod? Really? The "flying" arms are a thing if you use the Frankenstein mod and put the dongles for the knuckles to close together. But anyway. I owned both and the VP2 was a way too hot, even with all the mods. I couldn't wear it more than 2 hours. I can play with the G2 for 4+ hours and there is no negative effect. It isn't nearly as hot and heavy as the VP2 (even with all the mods). The Sound of the VP2 isn't so bad but the sound of the G2 is a way better and the Micro of the VP2 is so terrible, it's unbelievable that this wasn't mentioned in this review. The sound and the Mic of the G2 are another league. Why there are no words about that? But the most important part is the clearness in the distance. The G2 outperforms the VP2 in that category like a Porsche a VW Beetle would outperform in top speed. Even at the middle distance, the VP2 can't battle the clearness of the G2. And the "so bad" controllers of the G2 are enough for a Beat Saber !!16,3 hours!! over all gamer to play the hard mode and get the S ranks with ease. How could I do that with that bad controllers? A miracle! :) Yes, the rings of the controllers are big, and yes, if you are trained with smaller ones or the knuckles, you will have problems at first, but it's not such a big problem and there is no need for the Valve knuckles at all. I will sum it up: you mainly blame the G2 because the Frankenstein mod doesn't work for you like you wanted and the smaller FoV. That's a yoke, isn't it? The only big advantage the VP2 has, is the much better !!horizontal!! FoV, but you've forgotten to say, that the vertical FoV of the VP2 is really tiny. Again, why? The cons of the VP2: -Small vertical FoV -Extremely Hot, even with the mods -The VP2 is heavy, really heavy, and you will feel it if you have to move your head around very fast -The clearness in the distance is by far not as good as with the G2 -A really small sweet spot -The Mic of the VP2 is by far the worst Mic in VR history -The Sound is way behind the one of the G2 -Glare -Godrays What does the VP2 better as the G2: -Horizontal FoV -colours -Controller Tracking (but the ones of the G2 are not bad, not at all) If you are a sim guy, you should go with the G2. The clearness, especially in the distance, is an eye-opener compared to the VP2. And if a middle-aged guy, like me, can get S ranks playing Beat Saber (played it 16,3 hours over all), the controllers can't be that bad. I have "e-bayed" my VP2 and will never miss that "oven", not even at winter time. ;)

why are there only reviews from g2 n index people? i want to see a review from a vive pro users that upgraded to vive pro 2
I think because they are similar top headsets on the market today
Hi I upgraded from Vive Pro 1 Wireless and reviewed below. I love the second one.
ruclips.net/video/Uu-ZHzaNSYI/видео.html
i have testet pro2 and i love everything about it but i do see the black difference. i will go back to pro1 and see how huge of a difference it is. been playing halflife and in the dark areas it was very "foggy". not sure if the lens was foggy or bcs of the lcd. other colors are good. fov and sweetspot are amazing. wish we could switch the lens plate over to pro1. but i will do more testing
@@BigDaddyMacc Let me know what you find out. The more I wear the headset the better I like it. It's wearing in, and I have found the perfect sweetspot. I thought I would be switching back and forth between headsets, but I love just about everything on it. Much more reliable, less screendoor and great sound. I even don't mind the black levels now.
@@yeshuasmc7436 i dont know, been switching back and forth. what i notice is that the blacks on pro1 is far far better then pro2. in very dark areas with pro2 it get grayish/foggy and hard to see tbh (other colors are no problem). on pro1 everything is clear in the dark and it pops so much more( no grayish /foggy) the fov and sweetspot on pro2 i just love so much, wish pro1 had that. i also notice that in pro1 things feel more closer (resolution) and on pro2 things more far away. but im on a 1070 and i cant get max out of pro2, and im not sure if the resolution is buggy ect. the sound for me on pro2 is very dark and basse . on pro1 its much better. clear and vibrant, if that says anything. so they have to done something with the sound, or i just need to update or change something. pro2 no screendoor effect, pro1 just barly see screendoor. for now i will still use my pro1 over pro2. dosent mean that i wont use pro2 cause i will. i need to upgrade my pc cause i have a very old one. but for me the panal and i thought it wouldnt be a reason but it is for me, the blacks pops the image so much more on pro1. and thats why i will stick with pro1 for now esp when i play half life. i will also man up to switch the lenses on pro1... i have had my new lenses laying on my desk for ages but i havnt had the balls to switch them. one other thing, when im thinking about it, i havnt notice this foggy grayish blacks in other games.. maybe i need to test other games that got alot of blacks. i got a movie i need to test that i started on when i used pro2 and i notice it was grayish and i had to change settings in Bigscreen to see better in the darker scenes. so much more testing to do hehe XD but again the fov and sweetspot on pro2 is a 10/10 for me pro1 7/10. blacks on pro2 (atm) 6/10 and on pro 1 10/10. COLORS on pro2 10/10 same for pro1
There is an app for the grey screen issue with g2 + index controllers
What is the app?
@@brendontaylor7545 it is called STOP SIGN and it is very cool even aside from the grey fix. I makes it to when you go outside the boundary you can place 3d images of things to let you know wehat you are about to hit. The grey screen fix was just the cherry on top
Glad I could help!
I have quest 2 as well awaiting Vp2 -report back here pretty please your impressions
Honestly, I prefer the Quest 2 visuals. The Pro 2 screens are fantastic but the lenses are the worst I've ever experienced in a VR headset. If both headsets were priced the same I'd still go with the Quest 2.
just picked up a G2 for 319 USD , selling my oculus rift s for 220 easy upgrade
I'm only sim so I'm sticking to the G2. I'm not paying more for something that's an equal. Plus I hear the vertical FOV is horrible.
I had both, got rid of hp reverb g2. 2 wonky of setup with the knuckles. got the slim face cover, from vr covers, no problems.
Just out of curiosity, how many days have you been using the Vive Pro 2 for?
Since official release date, 3 days or so…
G2 is good but such a shame about the small FOV and sweetspot. Quest 2 has huge sweetspot. Still waiting for these companies to get it right. All I want is OLED with Index FOV, Quest 2 sweetspot and G2 clarity.
How did u find the black levels between the two?
Honestly. I like the colors of the vive Pro 2. I wouldnt say anything "stood out" but i could see more contrast in VP2.
@@protechnh thinking of upgrading from original vive pro but it uses oled and the blacks are the best was just wondering wud i hate vp2. Tha ks
@George Murray no worries mate thanks for all your help anyway. Subbed
Forget both of them and get Varjo VR 3. NextGenVr covered it and it's breathtaking
Forget about Ford and Chevrolet - drive a Ferrari. Everyone has a Ferrari, right? ))
as Ru_Dolph said, your comment doesn't even make sense, The Varjo is out of monetary reach for most consumers.
The Vive Pro 2 could have been a banger, but the small bad decisions add up:
-bad mic (the original vive which I have has a better mic)
-tight audio strap (from what I seen it looks too big making your ears hot)
-square lens at the top (they brake immersion since the view is cut off at the top)
If im keeping my pro 2, i do have to sell the g2 so i dont use it😆
@Vincent Tuminello interesting. whats kind of common in all reviews is, that the g2 display is better in terms of clarity.
@Vincent Tuminello For someone with the original 2016 Vive (with original controllers and base stations), would you say VP2 (headset only) is the best upgrade path? I might get the index controllers/base stations eventually, but just in terms of headset, is it a worthy upgrade to the OG Vive?
I have a quest 2 and realized that I bought the wrong VR headset. I am a week or so away from ordering a G2.
You are doing the right thing F Facebook quest 2.
nothing beats vive tracking
@@BigDaddyMacc nothing beats less wires and lower electric bill 🤪
@@bobdole2184 wire dosent bother me. i could buy wireless but dont need to even if its a game changer. Vive pro/pro2 + knockles = #1 :)
Q2 ro VP2..huge leap!
Cheers!!
Thanks for stopping by. I knew other people were in the same boat when comes to these headsets. I saw the 8KX..how's that compared to everything ?
At the end since im using my pimax in small fov, there is no reason to keep a pimax for me and the sweet spot isnt strong enough. thoughts?
Would you consider modding hp reverb g2 using aspheric lenses to increase sweet spot and sharpness? ruclips.net/video/mz625xCrL2M/видео.html
Don’t think it’s an option.
I've just returned my Vive Pro 2 and will stick with my G2. When it comes to games like DCS, the G2 is by far a better choice. The clarity is night and day difference.
Im actually dssapionted in the Pro 2 after having the G2 . Once you see to the other side of the map you can't go back. These are facts.
hahaha. Very true..but the ease of use for was big for me. G2 is a solid headset.
Again, why?
The cons of the VP2:
-Small vertical FoV
-Extremely Hot, even with the mods
-The VP2 is heavy, really heavy, and you will feel it if you have to move your head around very fast
-The clearness in the distance is by far not as good as with the G2
-A really small sweet spot
-The Mic of the VP2 is by far the worst Mic in VR history
-The Sound is way behind the one of the G2
-Glare
-Godrays
What does the VP2 better as the G2:
-Horizontal FoV
-colours
-Controller Tracking (but the ones of the G2 are not bad, not at all)
If you are a sim guy, you should go with the G2. The clearness, especially in the distance, is an eye-opener compared to the VP2. And if a middle-aged guy, like me, can get S ranks playing Beat Saber (played it 16,3 hours over all), the controllers can't be that bad.
I have "e-bayed" my VP2 and will never miss that "oven", not even at winter time. ;)
I prefer the index with 150% SS.
Okay....the Vive Pro 2 is made in China right....so why the fuck is it so much more expensive when you buy it and any of its accessories INSIDE China??!?!
