Nice Steve. G2 has been great, still loving the performance. You mention MSFS settings not changing - I'm guessing that statement may be retracted on the 27th when the performance improvements come out. Very exciting for us VR simmers.
Very good video and I agree that SteamVR is not good as MS Mixed Reality runtime. In my opinion SteamVR is just terrible and not usable on my system with my G2. Windows Mixed reality Runtime with Windows OpenXR is silky smooth "OpenXR set to renderscale 70% and in sim 100%" but in Steam is just too slow. On my AMD R9 5900X / Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT combo it get a lot of CTD and with SteamVR its a lot less but also still get CTD. Hope MS/Asobo will fix that in Sim Update 5 and start utilising lots of CPU cores because my AMD R9 5900X does not go beyond 10% utilisation what is crazy. Top notch video Steve and I also don't play with my graphical settings anymore. Or you don't know what is what anymore. Just keep them when you get the desired smooth frame rate so you can enjoy the flying more than with settings.
Just for clarification SteamVR runs other titles just fine in my G2. Half Life Alyx works wonderfully well and so does X-Plane. It's not that SteamVR performance is bad, it's that MSFS as Steve has pointed out has been optimsed with OpenXR so is significantly better than running MSFS in SteamVR.
@@dtrjones Can be true that I don't want to disagree but MSFS2020 in VR is my main and only and highest priority with absolute best performance and CDT free priority. So SteamVR is for me a non starter. It's just too slow.
I really gave VR a go thanks to your videos, but ultimately came away severely underwhelmed. I don't know how anyone can get used to that tiny, miniscule sweet spot with the G2. It blurs everything outside of a tiny little pinhole you are staring at and feels completely unnatural from normal human eyesight. Im running with similar hardware and settings and it looks like everything outside of the narrowest direct view is smeared with Vaseline. For me, it's going to be 3-4 years before this is prime-time. FOV would need to be a bit wider, sweet spot concerns would need to be *completely* gone, resolution would need to be doubled (and the associated PC hardware required), and the headset would need to be OLED based for better contrast and colors.
thought so too but 1) you get used to it a bit 2) adjustment (i.e. for my vive pro 2 the less thick VR cover instead of the OOTB-thick one) helped me a lot. I prefer flying VR a lot over 2D, rarely i do 2D, because i can't look around
I mean, everybody knows higher res = less performance. The real test here would be if you set them to the same resolution in steamvr, and then saw the differences with native steamvr vs wmr. Keep in mind, the vive console has a random "100%" steamvr setting unless you turn it off in a config file, so you need to find your pixels and match them every time.
Steam VR defaults to 150% with high performance GPUs to compensate for barral distortions I believe. Interestingly even with the Reverb G2, when comparing Steam VR and WMR Open XR the fps are much better as in this video. Thanks for watching!
@@VRFlightSimGuy - Right. Thanks for answering. But yours has a _high_ stabiliser and most don't. It's not in the Marketplace and I have been looking all over the place. Is the one used in the video freeware or payware?
@@D800Lover Ahh yes the high tail, it must be the Turbo Arrow in this video. It's the best GA out there, available here: www.justflight.com/product/pa-28r-turbo-arrow-iii-iv-microsoft-flight-simulator

It's interesting that FS is GPU limited (by 3:2 over CPU) with the G2 yet it is neck and neck GPU/CPU limited with the Vive. I would have thought the Vive, being higher res than the G2, would have been even more GPU limited.
What kind of lunatic makes a framerate video without mentioning what hardware they're running on? Even if it is meant to be a comparison between two headsets the hardware is still important info (especially for potential buyers).
@@VRFlightSimGuy Can't unsub if you're never subbed. But more to the point someone who is checking a bunch of different videos to help them make a purchasing decision is better served with the hardware in the description. Unless this is some ploy to try to get people to check your channel.
4K Reverb G2 VS 5K Vive Pro 2 FPS TEST. How much difference is there? Let's find out!
GPU, CPU, RAM?
Just to clarify, you ARE using the pro 2, because your photo is the Vive Pro.

Thanks David. Yep everything will no doubt change. Looking forward to it although I'll be away when the update drops I think.

Which GPU was that? in your about you mention 4090, but 1 year ago it was probably not the case?
10900k, 3090 👍

HI Steve
Can I ask what driver you are using, still 357.30??
Hi. I'm now using the very latest driver, works great 👍
What plane is that - does not look like it came with MSFS 2020?
Just Flight Piper 👍

That might be because the 3090 really excels with high resolution headsets.
Can you tell us what you use to display fps in vr mode? Thanks.
Hi Tony. It's dev mode in the sim itself.
Nice one frend looks really cool Jan ✌️✌️✌️👍👍😀

Good to know that I essentially bought expensive garbage with HTC Vive Pro2

1m 19s you mention 70% in steamVR while promiting Windows Mixed Reality runtime. Minor nono ;-)
100% global, 70% respectively on each runtime (Open XR and steam VR)

I haven't. Video coming soon.
