I'm the owner of a Vive Pro 1 (and I before I had the first Vive), which I use almost every day, at least one hour a day. It has now several thousands hours of use and I came where to see what will be my next VR headset, because I know that the Vive Pro won't last forever. The thing I must fear is to pass from OLED screens to LCD screens.
Thanks! I really like the VIVE Pro 2. I'm not budget sensitive but the constant tinkering of the Pimax would be a turn off for me. Thanks for the review!
Worth noting, lighthouse tracking is also inside out tracking. It's just markered insideout tracking (opposed to markerless inside out tracking). Pimax, index, vive etc all tracking from the headset. The headset looks outwards for the base stations. Only the Rift CV1 is outside in tracking.
The most advanced, and yet, still unfinished, HMD available. Have had my new PiMax 8KX for about a month now and during that time it has worked for about a week. The list of problems just gets longer and longer. Can not work with steam - Steam just crashes as soon as it sees the Pimax. Tech support says reload steam, reload Pitool, Reload SteamVR. Try this setting and try that setting. But it still does not work. It is even difficult to turn on! Sometime it conects straight away and other times not at all. Sometimes you get a green light (all good), sometime a purple light (reprojection is on) and sometime an orange light (no idea). There is no way to control this behaviour. The Pimax was not designed to be used with steam. In fact I would say that the product is not complete and still being tested. And you can be a beta tester for only $2000. A serious waste of time and money and I would be happy to get rid of mine for 75% of what it cost me. Sad to say that it is just not ready for the average VR ready computer competent consumer.
i had both, vive pro 2 116hfov pimax 8kx 160hfov tested, the difference isnt a little lmao also pimax has bigger vertical fov too,i returned the pro 2 and stayed with the pimax, its just better.
@Watching RUclips Daily nah too much sde for 2021 and the fov is tiny, might as well get one of those arapara 5k headsets that also have tiny fov but at least no sde at all due to micro oled,i wouldnt even consider that cause idgaf about blacks,to me after sde fov is second.
@Watching RUclips Daily well i dont notice washed out blacks and the colors pop alot with my settings,on pro the sde looks like a mosquito nest and the fov like looking trough toilet paper rolls lol tried it long time ago when i had a rift s and didnt like it let alone now when i have an 8kx,those downsides are way more noticeable than the color black, oled will also never ever be as sharp or bright as lcd, mini led is the future.
hey The Provoked Prawn wanna do a cool experiment get a cv1 full kit (hmd, touch, censors )test tracking v steam u can use any hmd in steam n report back wich is better tracking ;-) shake controllers in front of u n see wich track better i won 6 mhds including pimax 5k,8k,8k+ btw
The Pimax 8kx just cost too much, is it compatible with all Steam vr games and Oculus games?, I heard getting Pimax vr headsets getting to work properly with Steam vr and Oculus games is a real hassle, how good is the fov on it compared to other vr headsets, is it a weird looking fov where everything is stretched out or is decent enough for most games? its just cost too much money and too much of a risk, and how good could this headset be for most vr games and not just sim racing vr games, the price is just way too high for me
I'd have to say, vive pro 2 for being much easier to setup, 8kx just seems to be too much work after watching this video, and plus I don't really care for constantly changing settings for running vr games, I thought the G2 was a pain in the butt for running Steam vr games and Oculus games, thanks for the video
why ever opt for the Vive wands? they are the worst controllers, and the worst product to ever exist. 2 of the 2.0 controllers cost the nearly same as 4 knuckle controllers in my country. 2 of the 1.0 controllers cost more than 2 knuckle controllers. at $490 for 2 x 1.0s, and $750 for 2x 2.0s I think I'd rather wait the 2-3 weeks shipping time for the $400 knuckle controller sets.
The Vive Pro 2 looks like a higher quality vr headset, the 8KX looks cheap and flimsy, don't trust Pimax anyways, there quality control has been questioned in the past with their vr headsets, Karl Gosling on RUclips said himself he didn't care for the quality of the 8KX
I’ve heard the opposite. Lots of reviewers prefer the pimax. The quality and customer service is way better now. If you have a small ipd and a weird shaped head like Karl the pimax won’t work for you.
@@claybomb1064 I have a 62 ipd, I just don't trust Pimax, there's gotta be something weird or off with the fov on that headset, and many non sim vr games aren't meant for that headset, for flight sims, maybe it's good, but I am not really into flight simulator vr games that much, I like other vr games besides that, and plus the price is just too damn high
Pimax were dodgy 2016-2019 but over the last year or 2 they really have become the best PCVR headset manufacturer out there. I wouldn't pay full price for an 8kx but the 5ks is well worth it. nice wooden table, is this iroko or teak?
American Walnut
Good comparison, nice setup!
Correction: Pimax doesn't have 200 FOV horizontal. It's only diagonally. It's way less horizontally. It's Only a little bit more than vive pro 2.

FYI, Vive Pro2 can be used with the wireless add on and it is awesome!
heard its blurry?
If you want a wireless vive pro 2 it better to just the the focus 3
Is the “Pimax 8k X DMAS” standalone or does it require a strong pc?
It requires good PC
