Depends on your PC at that point. I use a laptop and I can't run no man's sky, or elite dangerous, they crash and lag, I need a better computer to run games of those scope. I'm running ryzen 7 with etc 3050ti. If I had a 4080 super I wouldn't have this problem.@@paulonarleylacerda1713
Just got a quest 3. One of the best vr headsets ive ever used versitility wise, Mixed reality, Standalone, pcvr, inside out tracking, great controllers and good display. By far best standalone headset. The pcvr aspect is astonishing. For 560 euros its definetely worth the money in my opinion. Also excited to see vr will have to offer for upcoming years.
That was the best overall review of all the VR headsets that have ever been available and which ones are worth buying still. I pre-ordered the Meta Quest 3 and feel its the best headset for the money. Especially with the mixed reality capabilities it has. This video is perfect for a beginner without knowledge about VR or someone with knowledge about VR. Thomas, you covered everything here and I learned about a few of the headsets myself. All I can say is just watch this video and you are good. Lets see what the future brings to VR in 2024, though. I am sure it will be awesome. Thanks again Thomas, for your great VR content.
Thank you for a very good breakdown of VR options. I just got a quest 2 because I've never used VR, and the price was right ($200 usd new). Now that I've dipped my toes in the water I'm hooked. Building a stronger PC and getting a better headset is my next step.
Thank you so much for this. You answered everything I wanted, including suitable use and rough price tags. I've now ordered a PICO 4 based in your information.
The Gear VR headset that you put your Samsung smartphone in, was pretty damn good for it's time. That was my introduction to VR back then and I was impressed.
I was big into VR around 2017 and then lost track of the industry since then. Incredible to see how far the headsets have come and the amount of variety in the market. Thanks for this great video!
I was able to get a new Quest 2 128GB through Amazon for $160 and have been having a blast with it, coming from original HTC Vive. I honestly love it a lot more than the HTC Vive. the lack of cables is extremely nice, and with the battery headstrap it balances a lot better and makes it feel lighter.
Thomas! I don't know how have you done It but you are the first in youtube in having the Quest 3. Hurry Up and release videos about It!!! You Will get a lot of new subscribers! And you deserve It!
Psvr 2 is great fun man. I enjoy it alot. Quest 3 barely showed any gameplay and they won't until launch ... And then you have all these endorsers who are worshipping the quest 3 through the roof. Oh boy if they say something bad about the quest 3 🤣 I'll stick with psvr 2 for now. Don't have a pc anyway🤷♂️
Same here, I would have grabbed it in a heartbeat. I'm still hoping the modding/ hacking community will be able to get it running stable via reverse code engineering.
@@Wooskii1apparently it’ll need an additional piece of custom hardware once functional drivers are developed, but either way we probably have a couple years of waiting yet.
Those phone headsets are very popular for FPV flyers where they get the video stream on the phone. (place phone in headset vs mounted on the controller) they are not useless.
Ty for all the information. It was great to see all of them all at once. And all the great pro and cons. Saved me a lot of time searching one at a time and doing all the comparisons. Great work.
I want a vr headset that has 4k 144hz Oled display ofc. And a brain sensor uses the brain waves as controls so it can simulate real human movement (it can be wired thanks to that). Fortunately we have all of these techs. Now we only need a company to integrate it together.
year ago i was one of them. it was my first experience with steamvr. had to buy 3 ps move controllers and cameras to try it. for now i'm a (almost) happy user of quest 2
I went from a Valve Index to the Vive Pro 2 & now the Pico 4. I really like the convenience of wireless inside-out tracking of the Pico 4, especially if I want to use it abroad. Setup is significantly easier than with wired + light houses. I think these standalone wireless headsets might benefit a lot from Wi-Fi 7, but I've yet to see that included. Valve really needs to do an updated release with a Valve Index 2. There's so much more they can do with current technology. The Valve Index was always super reliable with no janky extra software needed so I miss that experience & would love to see an Index 2.
It could habe been very interesting, if you could have spent some words about weight, comfort, different qualities in gaming/productivity/movies/3d movies, and megative body effects (due to the kind of lenses) for each controler! Your video seems to be quite incomplete, but nice you showed so many of them! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for that Thomas I think this video was really great because it informed me that I kind of read that made the right decision for my budget by getting the quest 3 thank you.
the vive pro 2 can be had where I am now (Germany actually) for 530 euros. I think that's a good price, with the base stations and index controllers it ends up being some 50 euros more than the full index kit. And I am lucky enough to be able to make a side by side comparison with the Index and see which one fits me better.
buuuut it's not worth it. I just had the chance to try it against the Index and yeah, for me it's not good. Screens are good, the FOV is fine for me, and it seems a bit more comfortable on the head BUT, everything else is worse, in good part because of the lenses: -small sweet spot; -because of the above, it has worse edge to edge clarity. The image feels overall blurry and this is noticeable in the peripheral vision, when simply looking arround; -worse glare where I actually see the Fresnel rings; -slight random tracking issues with lighhouse, small stutters and jumps; -gets hotter even without turning off the automatic dimming (if that's still doable); -audio is significantly worse; -software is still bad. Bugs and glitches that end up in a PC restart;
bro, index is like 15 years old, my great grandfather played on it the jump from 1440×1600 per eye resolution in index to 2k per eye in quest 2/3 may seem small, but its the difference between seeing every pixel and just seeing "slightly blurry image"
@@googleslocik Ah yes, 2019 famously that year from 15 years before 2024. Just stop trying to shove your facebook overlords down people's throats. They're a bunch of false advertisers and are selling your data to make the product seem cheap. _You_ are the product. Move on.
15:47 In many countries, the Vive Pro is also discontinued. You may grab one new from some retailers (or a bunch of used ones online). Still, I'm returning my Vive Pro 2. It wasn't dark enough for me when I was in complete darkness in Half-Life: Alyx, and the biggest difference for me was SDE (which I couldn't notice in Vive Pro 2). I guess I got too used to OLED.
Love the video, learned a lot, but I'm struggling to find something simple. I don't play VR games, I just want a huge high-res screen in front of me without needing to buy an 102 inches OLED screen. No need for tracking, controllers, audio, etc. Anything beyond 1440p60 with adjustable distance is fine, and I'm ok with the cable, no need for wireless or standalone. "Video glasses" would be the case, it seems, but I need to keep downloading files into them!? Isn't there anything USBC or HDMI connected? Thanks
Great video, was a fun watch going over all the different brands of VR and the types of VR. For me, I stand by, reluctantly, the HTC Vive Pro Eye because I primarily play VRChat, the eye tracking and face tracking trend has blossomed lately with people buying Quest Pros, but OLED + Lighthouse is way too good to pass up. I do pair it with my Index Knuckle controllers and the Vive 3.0 trackers for the ultimate Lighthouse setup. Though I do have a soft spot for my Index and easily recommend it to everyone I know. Such a sturdy, well built reliable headset.
Ive used a HTC Vive flow for about 2 years now. What I love : portability, lightweight, viewing angle, individual adjustable lenses. Now, I wonder, what should I upgrade to if I only want to step up, and sacrifice nothing. (my wallet is bigger than before). I certainly don't want to give up on individual adjustable lenses and the resolution/viewing angle, but would love more apps.
To be honest, the Beyond is perfect, having the hability to choose my own headset is game changing. Thanks for this, i almost bought the wrong one, i was going for the vale one but omg, the Beyond is absolutely unbeliviable, thanks! Lots of success and much much love.
I thought I had a lot of headsets, but you have them all - nice! I am blown away by the Quest 3. I agree you would want some alternative strap. The sharpness of the screen is very good. You can play a game like “Zero Caliber Reloaded” on the headset directly without a PC. You can even host a multiplayer game, have others join your game, chat with other players, all while either recording what you see to a 2D movie or stream it to either your phone or a Chromecast TV. I am amazed that it can do all these tasks at the same time without a PC. Thank you for this interesting view on all these headsets.
Did you ever own the Index or G2 or Quest 2? And if you did, how would you say the Quest 3 compares to older fresnel lens models. Is the difference that noticeable. Biggest issue I have with G2 atm is blurry visuals and tiny sweet spot. If I’m interacting with any UI/menu it’s awful. Only really good mid action in game, but when I try to stop and look at anything, it breaks immersion. Also how about compatibility with PCVR on Quest 3? Is Steam VR on it plug and play, or are there issues you run into?
@@readifdumb I do have an Index and different Rift headsets. It has been so long since I used them, as they have the classical downsides of a Fresnel lens, and the headsets are wired. I tried a Quest 2 at my friend’s house and it struck me as a significant downgrade from the Quest 3, but it is still better than a Rift S. There is a small sweet spot where things are in focus on a Quest 2 like most others. Both Quest 2 and 3 run PCVR both from the Oculus App and SteamVR very nicely - no issues. In fact, it is so compatible that there are several different ways to hook it up, but the built-in Air Link is the best (no need for external programs like “Steam Link” or "Virtual Desktop", and I uninstalled them to avoid confusion). You only need to start the Oculus app on your PC, and then use the headset for the rest: Via Air Link you connect from the Quest to the PC desktop (crystal clear text btw) and then from your PC desktop double click on a Steam game shortcut using your controllers. There are many ways to do it, but I prefer having shortcuts. You do need to set the Air Link to use 200mbps and preferably have a wired gigabit connection to the router and use 5GHz Wi-Fi from the Quest. I will never go back to a wired headset again unless I have to. The only issue I have had is that occasionally, on my setup, the Air Link disconnects right after startup. I just restart the Oculus app and try again. Once it’s running, it just works. You only have about 2 hours of playtime before you have to charge, but honestly, I can do with a break once in a while anyway. The only other issue is that you will need some third-party head strap (or the official Elite strap) for a comfortable fit if you want to be able to turn your head quickly. Most say that the Elite strap with a battery pack is not charging the headset after some time, so until they get that fixed, I would stick with either a third-party one or the normal Elite strap (as I have). I am really impressed with the Quest 3 and look forward to seeing what the future brings.
@@QuadHealer That’s all great to hear. I currently have my G2 working, so I’m going to play a lot more VR to see if this is something I care about enough to buy a new headset. I have a lazy eye, which acts up when I can’t focus, and on top of that I have bad vision. I need insert lenses to better focus, but I’m wondering whether pancake would help with focus in general? A very specific question, but does it help with focusing your eyes, creating 3D depth, less headaches, immersion, etc? What are the benefits outside of just clarity that you might of noticed? Also is the FOV difference for the Q3 a massive upgrade, or just a okay upgrade? Like can you still clearly see the black circles on left and right side clearly, or do they fade to the background easier?
@@readifdumb It is the easiest headset I have used with glasses - the focus is better. I have not experienced a problem with creating 3D depth if the headset can set the Interpupillary Distance (IPD) to match my eyes (which the Quest 3 can). Black circles on the left and right side? I have never experienced that, but it could be attributed to either your headset, eyes, or headset configuration. I would recommend visiting a store or having a friend/colleague give you a demonstration, so you can try it out before buying. The good thing about the headset is that it doesn't need a PC, so it is easy to take around to different places. As for the FOV, I haven't noticed it to be a problem - you can compare the specifications on the headsets and see if it is acceptable for your needs. If you don't know of anyone who has a Quest 3 and a store doesn't have one on display, then you can consider posting on Facebook and see if anyone close to you would be willing to give a demonstration - I know I would be more than happy to give a demonstration, but I am guessing you don't live in the northern parts of Denmark.
@@QuadHealer No I don’t sadly lol. My country currently isn’t selling the Quest 3 at any major retailer, and instead it’s all online stores. So while some people might have one, it’s not readily available. I’d have to go through Amazon to get mine if I was buying it. For the most part I think that it seems like a pretty clear upgrade, with a minor decrease in resolution, mic, and audio. Stuff I can sacrifice for overall ease of use and visual clarity. I feel like overall I have issues on most fronts. Small sweet spot; not properly aligned IPD with not enough in the higher numbers for my eyes; fresnel lenses; glare, chromatic aberration, and distortion; extremely thick cable that I have to lump around; bad comfort; WMR killing any support I have for certain games, as well as introducing a lot of instability, lag, terrible menu interactions, the list goes on regarding WMR; horrid controllers that barely work for most games, as well as can’t even do more hand gestures in VR Chat; terrible room mapping that sometimes just sends me out of my player space randomly; batteries on controller dying within one session… You get the point. Once I’ve dealt with one thing it’s another thing. VR shouldn’t have to be this hard. The last thing I’m considering/thinking about is the Quest Pro. While it is a downgrade in a lot of areas compared to Quest 3, the face tracking seems extremely cool for VRChat which is 90% of my time in VR anyway. So I guess I’ll be thinking about it longer, but I really want to upgrade now, even if it feels like I didn’t get my moneys worth out of my current headset, I’d rather not be complaining for the next 900 hours trying to get my moneys worth, when I could spend that 900 hours with a better experience.
I recently got an HTC vive from a friend of mine who upgraded to a quest 2, and I'm quite happy with it even though it does kinda suck, but my pc does too, so I am barely able to get a playable fps. But I am just happy for the Basestations for the most part, cuz that means less money when upgrading headset when I eventually do upgrade my pc
The quest 2 is not an upgrade from HTC vive. PC vrs will always out perform standalone vrs in every area. The major downside is its wired unless you buy wireless adapter and you need a very good gaming PC to run vr games well.
@@aymenmahmod9981 honestly when you have to plug ton of cables every time to just run this htc vive is awful and annoying, so quest 2 without need for this already an upgrade
@@chadthunderlord5830depends. Pcvr is better in the sense that it has a wider range of games, better video settings configurations, more options and standalone is better for portability and casual vr.
my question is always the same > "whats the best set for gaming" but the answer always is the same year after year... "all of them and none of them" because nobody is taking all the good points and creating a set i want. always have to have bad points to put me off spending a £1000 on something that turns out to be old crap in a few months. this has been the problem with VR since the days.
it makes me angry that there's still no good cheap pcvr only headset. how I would love something that's like the quest 3 but without the processor, battery etc., I'd buy that in heart beat.
@@chadthunderlord5830 I think you are potentially mistaken. The phone processor is for one subsidised by Meta in the Quest because you are captive to them, dependent on their account/service, and of course they are in the business of collecting data and using it for ad targeting. For other well how are you gonna track. You still need that same processor to munch the camera image data. Connecting internal displays to PC is also not so trivial, unlike how they used to do it in DK1, you can no longer use a cheap monitor scaler for the kind of displays that you expect. So PC headsets contain super exotic chips which end up very expensive. One thing they lack is battery but come on that's $4 of cost. So i think there's a reason no random manufacturer from China or among PC related brands just pops up and makes a $120 PC headset. Fundamentally Lighthouse tracking is super cheap and efficient to make, i could do it with a $0.60 of electronics, but nobody wants to set up so much stuff in their room so it becomes a niche product, and if you can't sell at volume, it's just not going to be cheap. Plus all those bits, power supplies etc parts it all adds up. A $40 phone chipset in the headset is suddenly a reasonable expense. Weird i know.
@@SianaGearz you sound like experienced person, i must say well, i dont care about meta because they are banned in my country anyway, so i dont even look at their products but when this hypothetical cheap vr headset pc only, cant my own pc be bothered with tracking everything? and vr just be a monitor with lenses, cameras, gyroscopes, etc i honestly hope valve would do something like this with their new headset without lighthouse
The rift s is pretty similar. Same controllers (albeit an older model which is weaker and has slightly worse tracking) and a decent resolution and refresh rate, second hand I've seen them as low as £100.
Been interested in getting into VR. I do have a decent gaming rig (RTX 3080, i7-11700k) but torn between getting the standalone meta quest 3, or get a dedicated PCVR set. Especially since the current PCVR sets are few years old and there are rumblings of Index 2 and others potentially coming.
Quest 3 seems to be the way to go. You can use it wired pc headset, wireless pc headset (with good wifi 6 router), standalone headset. Additionally the displays are pretty great.
Managed to get a rift s $50usd as my first vr headset. definitely decent start, downsides are the headband and the refresh rates are not satisfactory. Can’t really complain for the amount i paid though
i couldnt agree more with your final choice! just i need to mention that pico 4 has poor library as a standalone headset compare to quest 3 or quest 2, but it is a great choice if you want a cheap wireless pcvr headset! And also i feel as you said that beyond is the future, for pcvr gamers like me at least!
What's coming up next? I'm looking at midrange PCVR headsets but the only thing out there is the Quest 3, which I'd get but it doesn't have DisplayPort and sucks for simulators 😢
Got Pimax Crystal a week ago, managed to connect it to my 4090 after 2 hours of playing around. Noticed tracking issues in MSFS, the scene (cockpit) drags on head turns. After 2 hours of testing put it away for couple of days and after that it didn't connect to my PC anymore. Reverted to my Quest 3 - after proper configuration with OpenXR Toolset and Wired Link it gives almost the same quality as Crystal but with much stable software and ease of use. Oh, and it's more than 3 times cheaper.
Thanks! I just bought a quest 3 and am very happy. I have had three original quest and quest 2. The quest 3 is a real upgrade. Pancake lenses are underrated. Also PCVR performance is amazing. I would love to buy a pimax crytal though. But i rather spend the money on a good graphics card.
@@uhhsky8 if you really want to play vr on the cheap, get the quest 2. But the 300$ was totally worth it. Much better display, passthrough, everything is much snappier and if you are using it standalone, the better graphics are definitely worth it. Both are good. But the quest 3 is great. Also wider field of view is amazing. But if you can get a quest 2 under 150$ with an elite strap, why not.
@@batterynerd8779 the quest 2 is about 240+tax at target. Quest 3 is like 500 or 600... I really didn't want to get something used because it might come with problems
If you really have to go the cardboard route I would strongly recommend BOTW with the Labo VR kit. I honestly had a lot of fun with it and the half resolution sort of makes it feel like a retro futuristic experience... perfect with a joint!
So, still nope then for now. Bigscreen Beyond looks like it's getting there tho. But given how small it is, it is still impressive how fugly they managed to make that. Needing to buy everything separately is a pain, but manageable if it all at least works together well. Custom inlay is nice, but not being able to share is troublesome. Shouldn't be that hard to make a semi universal fit that sits well, especially given the reduced weight. This would make replacements easier and longevity greater. The inlay not being absorbent is also a concern. Lastly compacting it all obviously introduces some new downsides, the big one apparently being a type of blurry lens flare when displaying bright objects. Oh well, I'll just give it a few more years. ;p
Update from January 2024: The Reverb G2 has two versions - v1 & v2. Avoid the v1 as it has widely known problems with its display cable. And you may want to avoid the v2 unless you can find it very cheap. In December, Microsoft announced it would depricate or drop Windows Mixed Reality from the next major update of Windows (expected to be called Windows 12). So Microsoft support for WMR has ended, it won't get updates, and, by sometime in 2025 Windows Updates could break WMR and thus brick your Reverb (even if you don't update to Windows 12).
Very great collection! Brow! 😅, I have for NOW oculus rift v1, PlayStation VR v1, PlayStation VR 1 v2, META QUEST 2, and two PLAYSTATION VR2 😅😛. But im READY FOR still in the course of collection VR headsets, my next VR headsets for 2023, will be PICO 4, META QUEST PRO and for 2024 meta quest 3
I'm thinking about vive pro 2 or quest 3 I'm mostly thinking about resolution and image quality rater than being wireless I;ve also have base stations and controllers from OG vive so i think its a good choice
Now I'm in a bit of a dilemma here. I need VR just for sim racing and I'm still on my Rift S, which works fine but it is of course dramatically outdated by now. For sim racing I really want/need something with a displayport connection, because of all the issues you get with those stand alone headset that use USB (fragmentation, blurry images, stuttering and what not). I tried the Quest3 at a friends place and the image is fantastic but it's just not a good solution for sim racing. I can't afford to pay something like $800 or more for a headset. It's insane and I cant/won't do it. So I thought the Reverb G2 would at least be an upgrade to my Rift S. But now Microsoft is going to drop WMR and then the G2 is literally going to become a useless paperweight. What to do? Any suggestions?
you don't really have an option in that case. you could wait to see if somebody makes a replacement tool for WMR portal but that's technically very difficult and i wouldn't bet on it. unless you want to rummage for a vive pro 2 second hand, you should probably just bite the bullet and pick up something more expensive and/or optimise the quest 3 link as much as you can. there's just not any cheap options for pcvr headsets of that caliber unfortunately
@@fruittree1670 A Vive pro 2 would be nice but not for that price. I think I'm going to settle for a Pico 3 Link for now. Not a huge tiktok fan, but it's a cheap upgrade with a DP connection.
Same here - i just want a headset for driving/flying games/sims. Only need very simple tracking to know when i'm looking left/right/up/down. I'm not paying ~£1000 for one. What issues did you have with the Quest 3? Having a quick read round, at a glance that surprisingly looks like it might be the best bet for PCVR too.
@@alkaholic4848 I already said that. latency and compression artifacts. It's not a PCVR headset. People will tell you that the Quest 3 is fine but if you compare it directly with the Rift S for example, it's very noticeable. I by now had the opportunity to borrow the Quest 3 from my friend and to try it on my PC and I'm not buying one.
I wanna watch someone fight the final boxer in Thrill of the Fight wearing one of those huge Pimax headsets :D. Crazy awesome collection. Can't imagine how many times people ask you which one you use the most is.
I bought a Meta-Oculus Rift S one year before they dropped their support of this product. The Rift S worked well until I updated my computer. Now two years later and after a year of Meta stupid suggestions for getting my Rift S working again, it's still not working. I have a $400 paper weight that Meta refuses to fix even though they say my new computer should not be a problem. I cannot recommend buying any Meta products due to their lack of customer service and having a chance of the same dropping of older products support. Meta basically has no customer service and only lip service!
standalone do pcvr really good, like for example pico and quest and is cheap. I thought my quest 2 and 3 were way better than my partners htc vive that were like the first edition or something :) So that is worth it for pcvr too! especially with the new steam link for quest etc. And it is smooth on good wifi and with a normal decent usb c cable ^^ I have been starting to use it for pcvr a lot nowadays
hi you Explain very good in English to be honest and it’s nice to learn something new 😅😊 I never had vr headset but I like to try it myself when I get one but I’ve try it when I was with my father and it’s was fun 😂

Could I play Half life and John wick with a Quest 3 at the same quality of Htc Vive pro 2?
Depends on your PC at that point. I use a laptop and I can't run no man's sky, or elite dangerous, they crash and lag, I need a better computer to run games of those scope. I'm running ryzen 7 with etc 3050ti.
If I had a 4080 super I wouldn't have this problem.@@paulonarleylacerda1713

quest 3 vs Piko. Does quest 3 have shadow of lenses in the middle of viewport? I had this on quest go.
Man, I think this guy really likes VR headsets
Nah, why would you think that?
The best comprehensible 2023 VR summary, no contest, a subscribe must.
I'm thinking about buying my 1st VR headset, and this video was hugely helpful! Thank you.
I havent come across such a good and extensive video covering this topic. im looking to get in to the whole VR thing and this helped a bunch!
Just bought Pico 4 and I love it.
Thank you 🥰
Thank you for a very good breakdown of VR options. I just got a quest 2 because I've never used VR, and the price was right ($200 usd new). Now that I've dipped my toes in the water I'm hooked. Building a stronger PC and getting a better headset is my next step.
Get the quest 3. It’s more powerful and supports pc vr better
I found the perfect video. Brought up to speed on practically the entire market in a simple video. Thank you. Excellent.
ive had psvr1 to oculus/ meta quest 2 ..... now after watching your vid gonna get the quest 3 & all the bollix that it needs
Probably NDA, or Review Embargo Dates (contract) so people don't do exactly that before a set date.
The full review is not allowed yet and I'm also not yet done with it.
Such a thorough video. It's just cool to see all of these different headsets compared with each other, even briefly.
Subscribed because anyone that has a Virual Boy on display knows VR!!! Great video Thank you!!
If PSVR 2 was PC and PS5 I would buy it.
Same
But if I connected it my pc would explode instantly 💀
U should try a pancake lenses headset and ask yourself this question again
Glad to see Arnold Swartzeneger is teaching me about VR
Those phone headsets are very popular for FPV flyers where they get the video stream on the phone. (place phone in headset vs mounted on the controller) they are not useless.
This was great and very informative. Thank you!!
This video is gold! thanks for your time explaining the basis of vr actual state
You're welcome
Your explanation is very good
Not only is the quest 1 2 and 3 standalone headsets but they can also be used for pcvr so it’s basically a hybrid
they're heavy
@@Farlayy almost every vr headset is tho
Ty for all the information. It was great to see all of them all at once. And all the great pro and cons. Saved me a lot of time searching one at a time and doing all the comparisons. Great work.
For most people the answear should be quest2/3 depending on the budget or a "office" headset like apple vision pro
1 second in and i can say what my dad said about his two bookcases of cd albums. "That sir is what some might call a beautiful WALL OF SHAME" LOL

😂
I am new to VR, thank you for uploading this video 🙏
Thanks for that Thomas I think this video was really great because it informed me that I kind of read that made the right decision for my budget by getting the quest 3 thank you.
the vive pro 2 can be had where I am now (Germany actually) for 530 euros. I think that's a good price, with the base stations and index controllers it ends up being some 50 euros more than the full index kit. And I am lucky enough to be able to make a side by side comparison with the Index and see which one fits me better.
buuuut it's not worth it. I just had the chance to try it against the Index and yeah, for me it's not good. Screens are good, the FOV is fine for me, and it seems a bit more comfortable on the head BUT, everything else is worse, in good part because of the lenses:
-small sweet spot;
-because of the above, it has worse edge to edge clarity. The image feels overall blurry and this is noticeable in the peripheral vision, when simply looking arround;
-worse glare where I actually see the Fresnel rings;
-slight random tracking issues with lighhouse, small stutters and jumps;
-gets hotter even without turning off the automatic dimming (if that's still doable);
-audio is significantly worse;
-software is still bad. Bugs and glitches that end up in a PC restart;
I’m thinking of Upgrading from the Oculus Rift S to the Valve Index at some point. Seems like the best fit for me.
bro, index is like 15 years old, my great grandfather played on it
the jump from 1440×1600 per eye resolution in index to 2k per eye in quest 2/3 may seem small, but its the difference between seeing every pixel and just seeing "slightly blurry image"
@@googleslocik Ah yes, 2019 famously that year from 15 years before 2024. Just stop trying to shove your facebook overlords down people's throats. They're a bunch of false advertisers and are selling your data to make the product seem cheap. _You_ are the product. Move on.

Brilliant and very comprehensive guide!
Excellent review and very informative!
You Germans have always so meticulous attention to detail. Great mega-review of VR sets ❤👍😎
Amazing, informative and extensive review! Great video!
Das war mal eine super Übersicht, vielen Dank! 👌👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks
PSVR2 is great, but Sony really needs to update the firmware to support PC. It would do wonders for sales. Easily my favorite of the bunch.
This is the type of VR experience which would pull me out of flight sims for a long time.
Amazing video!
Thank you for such amazing video, very informative!
All that remained was to include Microsoft's hololens vr, which is already in its third version and, more recently, the Apple Vision Pro vr.
Wow! A tidalwave of VR headsets. 🥳 thanks for great info on these
Thank you so much for such a detailed and still simple to understand video.
Thank you ❤
Great in depth video
I was expecting him to say “I am in crippling debt 😀”
Small sweet spot; not properly aligned IPD with not enough in the higher numbers for my eyes; fresnel lenses; glare, chromatic aberration, and distortion; extremely thick cable that I have to lump around; bad comfort; WMR killing any support I have for certain games, as well as introducing a lot of instability, lag, terrible menu interactions, the list goes on regarding WMR; horrid controllers that barely work for most games, as well as can’t even do more hand gestures in VR Chat; terrible room mapping that sometimes just sends me out of my player space randomly; batteries on controller dying within one session…
You get the point.
Great summary thanks!
I watch movies for the most part, sold my quest 2 for the 3 the pancake lenses will be a game changer for dark settings and the godrays
My thoughts after i stopped on second 0:03: "Thats definitly a german guy." And than i read your channel name.
Thank you for this review.
Thank you for this review
my question is always the same > "whats the best set for gaming"
but the answer always is the same year after year... "all of them and none of them"
because nobody is taking all the good points and creating a set i want.
always have to have bad points to put me off spending a £1000 on something that turns out to be old crap in a few months.
this has been the problem with VR since the days.
the issue is I don't think it'll never not be a problem for a little bit.
it makes me angry that there's still no good cheap pcvr only headset. how I would love something that's like the quest 3 but without the processor, battery etc., I'd buy that in heart beat.
i agree, and i think if someone made this, it may be cheapest normal vr, cause no "phone" inside with processor, ram etc
eh
@@SianaGearz you sound like experienced person, i must say
well, i dont care about meta because they are banned in my country anyway, so i dont even look at their products
but when this hypothetical cheap vr headset pc only, cant my own pc be bothered with tracking everything? and vr just be a monitor with lenses, cameras, gyroscopes, etc
i honestly hope valve would do something like this with their new headset without lighthouse
The rift s is pretty similar. Same controllers (albeit an older model which is weaker and has slightly worse tracking) and a decent resolution and refresh rate, second hand I've seen them as low as £100.
You have 8 Pimax headsets. EIGHT!!!
That's insane! Mad respect!
😬😬 I think there are even 2 more in the basement, shelf is full.

Very informative video. Thanks man!🎉
Been interested in getting into VR.
Personally I’m going to keep my money and buy the Vision Pro next year 🤩
Great video, very informative :D
Managed to get a rift s $50usd as my first vr headset. definitely decent start, downsides are the headband and the refresh rates are not satisfactory.
Can’t really complain for the amount i paid though
the rift s was my first vr headset and i loved it
Mine too. It was great for sim racing.
I have a Varjo Aero now. The clarity is unbelievable.
Superb overview of vr units...
Your collection is impressive, but to make it complete you should have a Virtual Boy from Nintendo 😉
I have one, see in the glass shelf in the beginning of my videos 😉
Okay, in that case, your collection is complete. My apologies 😉
it would be funny if you had a virtualboy on display as a joke on the back shelf
video glasses are also great for exams : D
Which VR headset is capable to play and Display 3D movies ?, there are some movies that have the 3D logo.
i couldnt agree more with your final choice! just i need to mention that pico 4 has poor library as a standalone headset compare to quest 3 or quest 2, but it is a great choice if you want a cheap wireless pcvr headset!
So you recommend quest 3 for PC gaming? I want to get my first headset
@@Strawberry_ZA Yeah absolutely! Go get Quest 3.
Thanks! I just bought a quest 3 and am very happy. I have had three original quest and quest 2. The quest 3 is a real upgrade. Pancake lenses are underrated. Also PCVR performance is amazing. I would love to buy a pimax crytal though. But i rather spend the money on a good graphics card.
Should I save up more for quest 3 or just get quest 2 now since its cheap? I really want a vr
Oh well, I'll just give it a few more years. ;p
I'll wait for Valve Decard and Pico 5
Who will own 25+ VR Headset! ?
Thank you for this video, really help alot for my decision!
I have a feeling you like vr...
🤣🤣
no thats a big assumption i dont think we should be jumping to conclusions..
eh, i dont think so
Update from January 2024: The Reverb G2 has two versions - v1 & v2.
Avertising pimax eye/hand tracking modules when they are no longer supported seems like a bad idea.
They are supported for older Pimax headsets
Very great collection! Brow! 😅, I have for NOW oculus rift v1, PlayStation VR v1, PlayStation VR 1 v2, META QUEST 2, and two PLAYSTATION VR2 😅😛. But im READY FOR still in the course of collection VR headsets, my next VR headsets for 2023, will be PICO 4, META QUEST PRO and for 2024 meta quest 3
I'm thinking about vive pro 2 or quest 3
I'm mostly thinking about resolution and image quality rater than being wireless
I;ve also have base stations and controllers from OG vive so i think its a good choice
The Quest 3 is definitely the Superstar of the list, at the moment. 😅
I can feel the German pronunciation on my skin while watching this video.

Personally I'm upgrading from my htc vive pro to meta quest 3 and then waiting for pico 5 pro max
Thank you very much +1 like
Man, I really wish pcvr headsets were cheaper. I'm still rocking a Rift S
standalone do pcvr really good, like for example pico and quest and is cheap.
I already am used to the goggle effect because I use glasses, so a bigger FOV isn’t a big selling point for me specifically
hi you Explain very good in English to be honest and it’s nice to learn something new 😅😊 I never had vr headset but I like to try it myself when I get one but I’ve try it when I was with my father and it’s was fun 😂
