Depends on your PC at that point. I use a laptop and I can't run no man's sky, or elite dangerous, they crash and lag, I need a better computer to run games of those scope. I'm running ryzen 7 with etc 3050ti. If I had a 4080 super I wouldn't have this problem.@@paulonarleylacerda1713
Just got a quest 3. One of the best vr headsets ive ever used versitility wise, Mixed reality, Standalone, pcvr, inside out tracking, great controllers and good display. By far best standalone headset. The pcvr aspect is astonishing. For 560 euros its definetely worth the money in my opinion. Also excited to see vr will have to offer for upcoming years.
I was able to get a new Quest 2 128GB through Amazon for $160 and have been having a blast with it, coming from original HTC Vive. I honestly love it a lot more than the HTC Vive. the lack of cables is extremely nice, and with the battery headstrap it balances a lot better and makes it feel lighter.
That was the best overall review of all the VR headsets that have ever been available and which ones are worth buying still. I pre-ordered the Meta Quest 3 and feel its the best headset for the money. Especially with the mixed reality capabilities it has. This video is perfect for a beginner without knowledge about VR or someone with knowledge about VR. Thomas, you covered everything here and I learned about a few of the headsets myself. All I can say is just watch this video and you are good. Lets see what the future brings to VR in 2024, though. I am sure it will be awesome. Thanks again Thomas, for your great VR content.
I was big into VR around 2017 and then lost track of the industry since then. Incredible to see how far the headsets have come and the amount of variety in the market. Thanks for this great video!
I want a vr headset that has 4k 144hz Oled display ofc. And a brain sensor uses the brain waves as controls so it can simulate real human movement (it can be wired thanks to that). Fortunately we have all of these techs. Now we only need a company to integrate it together.
The Gear VR headset that you put your Samsung smartphone in, was pretty damn good for it's time. That was my introduction to VR back then and I was impressed.
Thomas! I don't know how have you done It but you are the first in youtube in having the Quest 3. Hurry Up and release videos about It!!! You Will get a lot of new subscribers! And you deserve It!
Thank you for a very good breakdown of VR options. I just got a quest 2 because I've never used VR, and the price was right ($200 usd new). Now that I've dipped my toes in the water I'm hooked. Building a stronger PC and getting a better headset is my next step.
Psvr 2 is great fun man. I enjoy it alot. Quest 3 barely showed any gameplay and they won't until launch ... And then you have all these endorsers who are worshipping the quest 3 through the roof. Oh boy if they say something bad about the quest 3 🤣 I'll stick with psvr 2 for now. Don't have a pc anyway🤷♂️
Same here, I would have grabbed it in a heartbeat. I'm still hoping the modding/ hacking community will be able to get it running stable via reverse code engineering.
@@Wooskii1apparently it’ll need an additional piece of custom hardware once functional drivers are developed, but either way we probably have a couple years of waiting yet.
Love the video, learned a lot, but I'm struggling to find something simple. I don't play VR games, I just want a huge high-res screen in front of me without needing to buy an 102 inches OLED screen. No need for tracking, controllers, audio, etc. Anything beyond 1440p60 with adjustable distance is fine, and I'm ok with the cable, no need for wireless or standalone. "Video glasses" would be the case, it seems, but I need to keep downloading files into them!? Isn't there anything USBC or HDMI connected? Thanks
Thank you so much for this. You answered everything I wanted, including suitable use and rough price tags. I've now ordered a PICO 4 based in your information.
year ago i was one of them. it was my first experience with steamvr. had to buy 3 ps move controllers and cameras to try it. for now i'm a (almost) happy user of quest 2
I bought a Meta-Oculus Rift S one year before they dropped their support of this product. The Rift S worked well until I updated my computer. Now two years later and after a year of Meta stupid suggestions for getting my Rift S working again, it's still not working. I have a $400 paper weight that Meta refuses to fix even though they say my new computer should not be a problem. I cannot recommend buying any Meta products due to their lack of customer service and having a chance of the same dropping of older products support. Meta basically has no customer service and only lip service!
I went from a Valve Index to the Vive Pro 2 & now the Pico 4. I really like the convenience of wireless inside-out tracking of the Pico 4, especially if I want to use it abroad. Setup is significantly easier than with wired + light houses. I think these standalone wireless headsets might benefit a lot from Wi-Fi 7, but I've yet to see that included. Valve really needs to do an updated release with a Valve Index 2. There's so much more they can do with current technology. The Valve Index was always super reliable with no janky extra software needed so I miss that experience & would love to see an Index 2.
Ive used a HTC Vive flow for about 2 years now. What I love : portability, lightweight, viewing angle, individual adjustable lenses. Now, I wonder, what should I upgrade to if I only want to step up, and sacrifice nothing. (my wallet is bigger than before). I certainly don't want to give up on individual adjustable lenses and the resolution/viewing angle, but would love more apps.
my question is always the same > "whats the best set for gaming" but the answer always is the same year after year... "all of them and none of them" because nobody is taking all the good points and creating a set i want. always have to have bad points to put me off spending a £1000 on something that turns out to be old crap in a few months. this has been the problem with VR since the days.
it makes me angry that there's still no good cheap pcvr only headset. how I would love something that's like the quest 3 but without the processor, battery etc., I'd buy that in heart beat.
@@chadthunderlord5830 I think you are potentially mistaken. The phone processor is for one subsidised by Meta in the Quest because you are captive to them, dependent on their account/service, and of course they are in the business of collecting data and using it for ad targeting. For other well how are you gonna track. You still need that same processor to munch the camera image data. Connecting internal displays to PC is also not so trivial, unlike how they used to do it in DK1, you can no longer use a cheap monitor scaler for the kind of displays that you expect. So PC headsets contain super exotic chips which end up very expensive. One thing they lack is battery but come on that's $4 of cost. So i think there's a reason no random manufacturer from China or among PC related brands just pops up and makes a $120 PC headset. Fundamentally Lighthouse tracking is super cheap and efficient to make, i could do it with a $0.60 of electronics, but nobody wants to set up so much stuff in their room so it becomes a niche product, and if you can't sell at volume, it's just not going to be cheap. Plus all those bits, power supplies etc parts it all adds up. A $40 phone chipset in the headset is suddenly a reasonable expense. Weird i know.
@@SianaGearz you sound like experienced person, i must say well, i dont care about meta because they are banned in my country anyway, so i dont even look at their products but when this hypothetical cheap vr headset pc only, cant my own pc be bothered with tracking everything? and vr just be a monitor with lenses, cameras, gyroscopes, etc i honestly hope valve would do something like this with their new headset without lighthouse
The rift s is pretty similar. Same controllers (albeit an older model which is weaker and has slightly worse tracking) and a decent resolution and refresh rate, second hand I've seen them as low as £100.
It could habe been very interesting, if you could have spent some words about weight, comfort, different qualities in gaming/productivity/movies/3d movies, and megative body effects (due to the kind of lenses) for each controler! Your video seems to be quite incomplete, but nice you showed so many of them! Keep up the good work!
15:47 In many countries, the Vive Pro is also discontinued. You may grab one new from some retailers (or a bunch of used ones online). Still, I'm returning my Vive Pro 2. It wasn't dark enough for me when I was in complete darkness in Half-Life: Alyx, and the biggest difference for me was SDE (which I couldn't notice in Vive Pro 2). I guess I got too used to OLED.
So, still nope then for now. Bigscreen Beyond looks like it's getting there tho. But given how small it is, it is still impressive how fugly they managed to make that. Needing to buy everything separately is a pain, but manageable if it all at least works together well. Custom inlay is nice, but not being able to share is troublesome. Shouldn't be that hard to make a semi universal fit that sits well, especially given the reduced weight. This would make replacements easier and longevity greater. The inlay not being absorbent is also a concern. Lastly compacting it all obviously introduces some new downsides, the big one apparently being a type of blurry lens flare when displaying bright objects. Oh well, I'll just give it a few more years. ;p
the vive pro 2 can be had where I am now (Germany actually) for 530 euros. I think that's a good price, with the base stations and index controllers it ends up being some 50 euros more than the full index kit. And I am lucky enough to be able to make a side by side comparison with the Index and see which one fits me better.
buuuut it's not worth it. I just had the chance to try it against the Index and yeah, for me it's not good. Screens are good, the FOV is fine for me, and it seems a bit more comfortable on the head BUT, everything else is worse, in good part because of the lenses: -small sweet spot; -because of the above, it has worse edge to edge clarity. The image feels overall blurry and this is noticeable in the peripheral vision, when simply looking arround; -worse glare where I actually see the Fresnel rings; -slight random tracking issues with lighhouse, small stutters and jumps; -gets hotter even without turning off the automatic dimming (if that's still doable); -audio is significantly worse; -software is still bad. Bugs and glitches that end up in a PC restart;
What's coming up next? I'm looking at midrange PCVR headsets but the only thing out there is the Quest 3, which I'd get but it doesn't have DisplayPort and sucks for simulators 😢
If your looking to buy a quest 2 for beginners I’d rather get the 3S bc it’s same price with mixed reality and great performance and if you looking to upgrade from a quest 2 if you are used to the fresel lenses and you use a quest 2 buy the quest 3S bc it’s same lenses as the quest 2 so you don’t have to get used to the pancake lenses and if your useing a quest pro I’d rather not to upgrade to a quest 3
You forgot to mention Valve Index is still the best for low end PCs, where for a Quest 3 you need a high end PC and additional batteries for PCVR. The battery life for all standalone headsets is really bad.
@@nguyen.tien.phat1310 the battery of the Quest 2 lasts a little bit longer, but not much. And you still need a faster PC for PCVR than for the Index, because of the resolution and the missing displayport.
Update from January 2024: The Reverb G2 has two versions - v1 & v2. Avoid the v1 as it has widely known problems with its display cable. And you may want to avoid the v2 unless you can find it very cheap. In December, Microsoft announced it would depricate or drop Windows Mixed Reality from the next major update of Windows (expected to be called Windows 12). So Microsoft support for WMR has ended, it won't get updates, and, by sometime in 2025 Windows Updates could break WMR and thus brick your Reverb (even if you don't update to Windows 12).
Been interested in getting into VR. I do have a decent gaming rig (RTX 3080, i7-11700k) but torn between getting the standalone meta quest 3, or get a dedicated PCVR set. Especially since the current PCVR sets are few years old and there are rumblings of Index 2 and others potentially coming.
Quest 3 seems to be the way to go. You can use it wired pc headset, wireless pc headset (with good wifi 6 router), standalone headset. Additionally the displays are pretty great.
I really need help. I'm trying to get into pcvr but idk what headset to buy thats decent in every area. My pc specs are rtx 3060 , and an i7-10700k intel cpu. I just want a decent vr headset that has decent tracking, decent resolution, and decent refresh rate. Just all around decent, but not too expensive . What do you recommend ? I was thinking about getting a quest 3, but I used to have a quest 2, and it was kinda trash at running on my pc. I was thinking of getting an hp reverb g2, but I heard the tracking is bad especially when its close to the headset which discourages me from buying it. Any tips on what headset to choose? I would really appreciate it.
Great video, was a fun watch going over all the different brands of VR and the types of VR. For me, I stand by, reluctantly, the HTC Vive Pro Eye because I primarily play VRChat, the eye tracking and face tracking trend has blossomed lately with people buying Quest Pros, but OLED + Lighthouse is way too good to pass up. I do pair it with my Index Knuckle controllers and the Vive 3.0 trackers for the ultimate Lighthouse setup. Though I do have a soft spot for my Index and easily recommend it to everyone I know. Such a sturdy, well built reliable headset.
For 90% of people it's gonna just be a Quest 2 or 3 or a PSVR2 if you have a PS5(but you're also now tethered and the ecosystem is limited in comparison). Everything else is just outlandishly expensive in comparison. I use an Index and imo it's still one of the best headsets you can get but it's also STILL one of the most expensive ones and is also tethered plus you need 2 external trackers and a pretty expensive gaming PC to run it. Quest 2 and 3 deliver 90% of the experience out of the box plus some AR shit most headsets can't do as well or at all.
I have the Valve Index, and loved every minute of using it. Currently, the cable is having issues (according to Steam help). I get sparkles, dropped sound, dropped image (goes black for 3 seconds). My wife hates the weight, and the heat (during the summer). Because it costs $600 for a new cable, I'm just looking for a new headset. I do not have nor want facebook, or other meta account. I just play Steam Games on my PC with the headset. Anything lighter, and of equal quality as the Index, would be nice. What can you suggest? I was looking at the vive pro 2 and bigscreen beyond, but... I'm not sold on the pro2, anymore.
I had a similar issue with my Index where the headset was essentially bricked due to the hinge mangling the end of the cable (almost by design). Had to buy a new tether for £130 as the warranty had expired and Valve support wouldn't fix the issue they created.
@@voy4g3 It's just really annoying that 1) The Index has not come down in price. 2) A known issue (the cable) has not come down in price to keep customers happy. 3) there has never been an Index 2, where they improve on what they have, by at least making it lighter.
Hey, I want to upgrade to Quest 3 but i don't know if it is a good option for me. I will mostly focus on PCVR, especially simracing, but i also want to play other games that require good controller tracking. Do you think there is a big visual difference between Reverb G2 and Quest 3 through link cable? I know G2 is probably visually better but i really want good tracking alongside it. If there arent bigger differences in viusals Q3 is the obvius option. Or am i missing any other option that is around 500-700€?
Probably should have labeled the video as "EARLY" 2024 guide, things has changed since then even before September, You got the PSVR 2 now able to be used in PC so Sony can avoid not selling the rest of their PSVR 2 stocks, And how Microsoft in their infinite money decision decided to shutdown Windows Mixed Reality, which made my HP Reverb become a dead useless paper weight now, It's just sad how headsets that was depending on a platform became so dead because that platform is gone~
bro, index is like 15 years old, my great grandfather played on it the jump from 1440×1600 per eye resolution in index to 2k per eye in quest 2/3 may seem small, but its the difference between seeing every pixel and just seeing "slightly blurry image"
@@googleslocik Ah yes, 2019 famously that year from 15 years before 2024. Just stop trying to shove your facebook overlords down people's throats. They're a bunch of false advertisers and are selling your data to make the product seem cheap. _You_ are the product. Move on.
I was actually a little surprised that phones only have 3 degrees of freedom, so I checked into it. I found an app that lets me see the sensor data in real-time (SatStat on F-Droid). My phone has 3 degrees for orientation (called azimuth, pitch, and roll) and 3 degrees for acceleration (gx, gy, and gz). Why can't VR games use all these and display the correct output? It seems like it should be possible.
Now I'm in a bit of a dilemma here. I need VR just for sim racing and I'm still on my Rift S, which works fine but it is of course dramatically outdated by now. For sim racing I really want/need something with a displayport connection, because of all the issues you get with those stand alone headset that use USB (fragmentation, blurry images, stuttering and what not). I tried the Quest3 at a friends place and the image is fantastic but it's just not a good solution for sim racing. I can't afford to pay something like $800 or more for a headset. It's insane and I cant/won't do it. So I thought the Reverb G2 would at least be an upgrade to my Rift S. But now Microsoft is going to drop WMR and then the G2 is literally going to become a useless paperweight. What to do? Any suggestions?
you don't really have an option in that case. you could wait to see if somebody makes a replacement tool for WMR portal but that's technically very difficult and i wouldn't bet on it. unless you want to rummage for a vive pro 2 second hand, you should probably just bite the bullet and pick up something more expensive and/or optimise the quest 3 link as much as you can. there's just not any cheap options for pcvr headsets of that caliber unfortunately
@@fruittree1670 A Vive pro 2 would be nice but not for that price. I think I'm going to settle for a Pico 3 Link for now. Not a huge tiktok fan, but it's a cheap upgrade with a DP connection.
To be honest, the Beyond is perfect, having the hability to choose my own headset is game changing. Thanks for this, i almost bought the wrong one, i was going for the vale one but omg, the Beyond is absolutely unbeliviable, thanks! Lots of success and much much love.
If you really have to go the cardboard route I would strongly recommend BOTW with the Labo VR kit. I honestly had a lot of fun with it and the half resolution sort of makes it feel like a retro futuristic experience... perfect with a joint!
Ty for all the information. It was great to see all of them all at once. And all the great pro and cons. Saved me a lot of time searching one at a time and doing all the comparisons. Great work.
Got Pimax Crystal a week ago, managed to connect it to my 4090 after 2 hours of playing around. Noticed tracking issues in MSFS, the scene (cockpit) drags on head turns. After 2 hours of testing put it away for couple of days and after that it didn't connect to my PC anymore. Reverted to my Quest 3 - after proper configuration with OpenXR Toolset and Wired Link it gives almost the same quality as Crystal but with much stable software and ease of use. Oh, and it's more than 3 times cheaper.
What would you recommend more for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, the Pico 4 or the Quest 3? I really like the smaller weight of the Pico 4 (300g vs. 500g), but the Quest 3 has the higher FOV (110° vs. 105°). How much difference is 110° vs. 105°? Is it worth having 200g more on the head?
Managed to get a rift s $50usd as my first vr headset. definitely decent start, downsides are the headband and the refresh rates are not satisfactory. Can’t really complain for the amount i paid though
Hi. I've been using htc vive pro for many years. A few years ago I modified the lenses to samsung gearvr. The image improved significantly. Then I expanded my set with valve index controllers. and it's ok. The whole thing is powered by rtx 4090@13900k@32gb7400. And here comes the question for you: is it time to change the goggles to another model? taking into account the experiences with lensmod?
I want nothing to do with base stations. You can't make use of a carrying case and play while traveling, on vacation etc. More hardware to malfunction like the base station red light of death. Replacement base station $200 or more. I own Q2, have a disable Valve Index ( base station ). Pre ordered 512gb Q3, depending on how it performs doing sim racing, I'll get the Pimax crystal for the FOV
My OG Vive is struggling 7 years after getting it. Thinking about getting a Vive Pro 2 Headset and Index controllers and base stations from Steam. Those are compatible right? The goal is to have the advantages of the unique Index controller and the high resolution of the Vive Pro 2, sounds like a winning combo if it works like that.
On paper the Vive Pro 2, index controllers and outside tracking with steam is better. I have been running this setup for 2 years, but I can't recommend it unfortunately :(. I constantly find myself going back to my Quest 2 with link cable. My Vive Pro 2 constantly glitches out, my index controllers lose tracking and glitch out too. The worst part is, replacement parts are very expensive, and I have spent way too muhc time troubleshooting the issues. My quest 2 has been very reliable, even while using the link cable. I am actually looking to sell my Vive + Index + Basestations and just buy a Quest 3.
I thought I had a lot of headsets, but you have them all - nice! I am blown away by the Quest 3. I agree you would want some alternative strap. The sharpness of the screen is very good. You can play a game like “Zero Caliber Reloaded” on the headset directly without a PC. You can even host a multiplayer game, have others join your game, chat with other players, all while either recording what you see to a 2D movie or stream it to either your phone or a Chromecast TV. I am amazed that it can do all these tasks at the same time without a PC. Thank you for this interesting view on all these headsets.
Did you ever own the Index or G2 or Quest 2? And if you did, how would you say the Quest 3 compares to older fresnel lens models. Is the difference that noticeable. Biggest issue I have with G2 atm is blurry visuals and tiny sweet spot. If I’m interacting with any UI/menu it’s awful. Only really good mid action in game, but when I try to stop and look at anything, it breaks immersion. Also how about compatibility with PCVR on Quest 3? Is Steam VR on it plug and play, or are there issues you run into?
@@readifdumb I do have an Index and different Rift headsets. It has been so long since I used them, as they have the classical downsides of a Fresnel lens, and the headsets are wired. I tried a Quest 2 at my friend’s house and it struck me as a significant downgrade from the Quest 3, but it is still better than a Rift S. There is a small sweet spot where things are in focus on a Quest 2 like most others. Both Quest 2 and 3 run PCVR both from the Oculus App and SteamVR very nicely - no issues. In fact, it is so compatible that there are several different ways to hook it up, but the built-in Air Link is the best (no need for external programs like “Steam Link” or "Virtual Desktop", and I uninstalled them to avoid confusion). You only need to start the Oculus app on your PC, and then use the headset for the rest: Via Air Link you connect from the Quest to the PC desktop (crystal clear text btw) and then from your PC desktop double click on a Steam game shortcut using your controllers. There are many ways to do it, but I prefer having shortcuts. You do need to set the Air Link to use 200mbps and preferably have a wired gigabit connection to the router and use 5GHz Wi-Fi from the Quest. I will never go back to a wired headset again unless I have to. The only issue I have had is that occasionally, on my setup, the Air Link disconnects right after startup. I just restart the Oculus app and try again. Once it’s running, it just works. You only have about 2 hours of playtime before you have to charge, but honestly, I can do with a break once in a while anyway. The only other issue is that you will need some third-party head strap (or the official Elite strap) for a comfortable fit if you want to be able to turn your head quickly. Most say that the Elite strap with a battery pack is not charging the headset after some time, so until they get that fixed, I would stick with either a third-party one or the normal Elite strap (as I have). I am really impressed with the Quest 3 and look forward to seeing what the future brings.
@@QuadHealer That’s all great to hear. I currently have my G2 working, so I’m going to play a lot more VR to see if this is something I care about enough to buy a new headset. I have a lazy eye, which acts up when I can’t focus, and on top of that I have bad vision. I need insert lenses to better focus, but I’m wondering whether pancake would help with focus in general? A very specific question, but does it help with focusing your eyes, creating 3D depth, less headaches, immersion, etc? What are the benefits outside of just clarity that you might of noticed? Also is the FOV difference for the Q3 a massive upgrade, or just a okay upgrade? Like can you still clearly see the black circles on left and right side clearly, or do they fade to the background easier?
@@readifdumb It is the easiest headset I have used with glasses - the focus is better. I have not experienced a problem with creating 3D depth if the headset can set the Interpupillary Distance (IPD) to match my eyes (which the Quest 3 can). Black circles on the left and right side? I have never experienced that, but it could be attributed to either your headset, eyes, or headset configuration. I would recommend visiting a store or having a friend/colleague give you a demonstration, so you can try it out before buying. The good thing about the headset is that it doesn't need a PC, so it is easy to take around to different places. As for the FOV, I haven't noticed it to be a problem - you can compare the specifications on the headsets and see if it is acceptable for your needs. If you don't know of anyone who has a Quest 3 and a store doesn't have one on display, then you can consider posting on Facebook and see if anyone close to you would be willing to give a demonstration - I know I would be more than happy to give a demonstration, but I am guessing you don't live in the northern parts of Denmark.
@@QuadHealer No I don’t sadly lol. My country currently isn’t selling the Quest 3 at any major retailer, and instead it’s all online stores. So while some people might have one, it’s not readily available. I’d have to go through Amazon to get mine if I was buying it. For the most part I think that it seems like a pretty clear upgrade, with a minor decrease in resolution, mic, and audio. Stuff I can sacrifice for overall ease of use and visual clarity. I feel like overall I have issues on most fronts. Small sweet spot; not properly aligned IPD with not enough in the higher numbers for my eyes; fresnel lenses; glare, chromatic aberration, and distortion; extremely thick cable that I have to lump around; bad comfort; WMR killing any support I have for certain games, as well as introducing a lot of instability, lag, terrible menu interactions, the list goes on regarding WMR; horrid controllers that barely work for most games, as well as can’t even do more hand gestures in VR Chat; terrible room mapping that sometimes just sends me out of my player space randomly; batteries on controller dying within one session… You get the point. Once I’ve dealt with one thing it’s another thing. VR shouldn’t have to be this hard. The last thing I’m considering/thinking about is the Quest Pro. While it is a downgrade in a lot of areas compared to Quest 3, the face tracking seems extremely cool for VRChat which is 90% of my time in VR anyway. So I guess I’ll be thinking about it longer, but I really want to upgrade now, even if it feels like I didn’t get my moneys worth out of my current headset, I’d rather not be complaining for the next 900 hours trying to get my moneys worth, when I could spend that 900 hours with a better experience.
I'm mostly interested in having the virtual desktop and monitor experience, for productivity incentives. I'm also a technical person so I can deal with some setup issues. Which is the most suitable and economical?
@@marpex-market Yeah, I also have PICO 4 and Quest 2 and only play PCVR. So far I don't see any clear reasons to upgrade from PICO 4 to Quest 3. Display contrast is not great on PICO and might be better on Quest 3. Quest 3 facial interface might be more comfortable, but I already upgraded PICO to be perfect. The biggest thing potentially is that WIFI 6E and the new Snapdragon might give an advantage with video compression. But I have not seen big claims about that yet. The leaked specs of PICO 5 lineup on the other hand look like a very significant upgrade over both Quest 3 and PICO 4. The top tier is even rumored to have DisplayPort. I think I will wait for that one.
@@lowskillcamper i am also a owner of quest 2 and pico 4 and i agree that quest 3 dont seems to be a huge upgrade in this case. i was replying to the first comment if quest 3 or pico 4 is better for pcvr. so if you dont own a hmd and you have the cash, quest 3 seems a better choice for pcvr, because has better refresh rate and fov (which are crusial for me than the resolution), better proccesor (=more computing power) and better pixel density.
I'm thinking about vive pro 2 or quest 3 I'm mostly thinking about resolution and image quality rater than being wireless I;ve also have base stations and controllers from OG vive so i think its a good choice

Could I play Half life and John wick with a Quest 3 at the same quality of Htc Vive pro 2?
Depends on your PC at that point. I use a laptop and I can't run no man's sky, or elite dangerous, they crash and lag, I need a better computer to run games of those scope. I'm running ryzen 7 with etc 3050ti.

quest 3 vs Piko. Does quest 3 have shadow of lenses in the middle of viewport? I had this on quest go.
Man, I think this guy really likes VR headsets
The best comprehensible 2023 VR summary, no contest, a subscribe must.
Thank you 🥰
I was big into VR around 2017 and then lost track of the industry since then.
Now we only need a company to integrate it together.
full dive vr o-o
I'm thinking about buying my 1st VR headset, and this video was hugely helpful! Thank you.
For most people the answear should be quest2/3 depending on the budget or a "office" headset like apple vision pro
ive had psvr1 to oculus/ meta quest 2 ..... now after watching your vid gonna get the quest 3 & all the bollix that it needs
Probably NDA, or Review Embargo Dates (contract) so people don't do exactly that before a set date.
The full review is not allowed yet and I'm also not yet done with it.
Thank you for a very good breakdown of VR options. I just got a quest 2 because I've never used VR, and the price was right ($200 usd new). Now that I've dipped my toes in the water I'm hooked. Building a stronger PC and getting a better headset is my next step.
Get the quest 3. It’s more powerful and supports pc vr better
If PSVR 2 was PC and PS5 I would buy it.
Same
But if I connected it my pc would explode instantly 💀
U should try a pancake lenses headset and ask yourself this question again
Just bought Pico 4 and I love it.
Thanks
I havent come across such a good and extensive video covering this topic. im looking to get in to the whole VR thing and this helped a bunch!
Thank you so much for this. You answered everything I wanted, including suitable use and rough price tags. I've now ordered a PICO 4 based in your information.
PSVR2 is great, but Sony really needs to update the firmware to support PC. It would do wonders for sales. Easily my favorite of the bunch.
the 4 dislikes is people with phone holders
year ago i was one of them. it was my first experience with steamvr. had to buy 3 ps move controllers and cameras to try it. for now i'm a (almost) happy user of quest 2
😂
I bought a Meta-Oculus Rift S one year before they dropped their support of this product. The Rift S worked well until I updated my computer. Now two years later and after a year of Meta stupid suggestions for getting my Rift S working again, it's still not working. I have a $400 paper weight that Meta refuses to fix even though they say my new computer should not be a problem. I cannot recommend buying any Meta products due to their lack of customer service and having a chance of the same dropping of older products support. Meta basically has no customer service and only lip service!
1 second in and i can say what my dad said about his two bookcases of cd albums. "That sir is what some might call a beautiful WALL OF SHAME" LOL
All that remained was to include Microsoft's hololens vr, which is already in its third version and, more recently, the Apple Vision Pro vr.
Such a thorough video. It's just cool to see all of these different headsets compared with each other, even briefly.
I found the perfect video. Brought up to speed on practically the entire market in a simple video. Thank you. Excellent.
Ive used a HTC Vive flow for about 2 years now. What I love : portability, lightweight, viewing angle, individual adjustable lenses.
Now, I wonder, what should I upgrade to if I only want to step up, and sacrifice nothing. (my wallet is bigger than before).
I certainly don't want to give up on individual adjustable lenses and the resolution/viewing angle, but would love more apps.
my question is always the same > "whats the best set for gaming"
but the answer always is the same year after year... "all of them and none of them"
because nobody is taking all the good points and creating a set i want.
always have to have bad points to put me off spending a £1000 on something that turns out to be old crap in a few months.
this has been the problem with VR since the days.
the issue is I don't think it'll never not be a problem for a little bit.
I have a feeling you like vr...
🤣🤣
no thats a big assumption i dont think we should be jumping to conclusions..
eh, i dont think so
Which VR headset is capable to play and Display 3D movies ?, there are some movies that have the 3D logo.
it makes me angry that there's still no good cheap pcvr only headset. how I would love something that's like the quest 3 but without the processor, battery etc., I'd buy that in heart beat.
i agree, and i think if someone made this, it may be cheapest normal vr, cause no "phone" inside with processor, ram etc
eh
@@SianaGearz you sound like experienced person, i must say
well, i dont care about meta because they are banned in my country anyway, so i dont even look at their products
but when this hypothetical cheap vr headset pc only, cant my own pc be bothered with tracking everything? and vr just be a monitor with lenses, cameras, gyroscopes, etc
i honestly hope valve would do something like this with their new headset without lighthouse
And I am lucky enough to be able to make a side by side comparison with the Index and see which one fits me better.
buuuut it's not worth it. I just had the chance to try it against the Index and yeah, for me it's not good. Screens are good, the FOV is fine for me, and it seems a bit more comfortable on the head BUT, everything else is worse, in good part because of the lenses:
-small sweet spot;
-because of the above, it has worse edge to edge clarity. The image feels overall blurry and this is noticeable in the peripheral vision, when simply looking arround;
-worse glare where I actually see the Fresnel rings;
-slight random tracking issues with lighhouse, small stutters and jumps;
-gets hotter even without turning off the automatic dimming (if that's still doable);
-audio is significantly worse;
-software is still bad. Bugs and glitches that end up in a PC restart;
Which is best for virtual travel?
Not only is the quest 1 2 and 3 standalone headsets but they can also be used for pcvr so it’s basically a hybrid
they're heavy
@@Farlayy almost every vr headset is tho
Glad to see Arnold Swartzeneger is teaching me about VR
You Germans have always so meticulous attention to detail. Great mega-review of VR sets ❤👍😎
What's coming up next? I'm looking at midrange PCVR headsets but the only thing out there is the Quest 3, which I'd get but it doesn't have DisplayPort and sucks for simulators 😢
Can you make a video testing Quest 3 headset using controllers from the Quest Pro. Is it worth the cost to upgrade?
If your looking to buy a quest 2 for beginners I’d rather get the 3S bc it’s same price with mixed reality and great performance and if you looking to upgrade from a quest 2 if you are used to the fresel lenses and you use a quest 2 buy the quest 3S bc it’s same lenses as the quest 2 so you don’t have to get used to the pancake lenses and if your useing a quest pro I’d rather not to upgrade to a quest 3
This is the type of VR experience which would pull me out of flight sims for a long time.
My thoughts after i stopped on second 0:03: "Thats definitly a german guy." And than i read your channel name.
Short question, I have a Vive Pro 2 for Flight Simulator; is it worth to upgrade to Quest 3? Thank you and best from Berlin, M.
You forgot to mention Valve Index is still the best for low end PCs, where for a Quest 3 you need a high end PC and additional batteries for PCVR. The battery life for all standalone headsets is really bad.
How about the Quest 2?
I was expecting him to say “I am in crippling debt 😀”
Subscribed because anyone that has a Virual Boy on display knows VR!!! Great video Thank you!!
@@voy4g3 It's just really annoying that
1) The Index has not come down in price.
Or am i missing any other option that is around 500-700€?
hi, could you tell me what WIFI speed you have with meta 3? since its 6e already. q2 max is 1200mbs in VD. if you have 6e-7 router
I already am used to the goggle effect because I use glasses, so a bigger FOV isn’t a big selling point for me specifically
Probably should have labeled the video as "EARLY" 2024 guide, things has changed since then even before September,
You got the PSVR 2 now able to be used in PC so Sony can avoid not selling the rest of their PSVR 2 stocks,
And how Microsoft in their infinite money decision decided to shutdown Windows Mixed Reality, which made my HP Reverb become a dead useless paper weight now,
It's just sad how headsets that was depending on a platform became so dead because that platform is gone~
I’m thinking of Upgrading from the Oculus Rift S to the Valve Index at some point. Seems like the best fit for me.
bro, index is like 15 years old, my great grandfather played on it
the jump from 1440×1600 per eye resolution in index to 2k per eye in quest 2/3 may seem small, but its the difference between seeing every pixel and just seeing "slightly blurry image"
Great work.
This was great and very informative. Thank you!!
Woow such a nice video, I just bought the quest 3 to get started with VR and this video helped me a lot. Great content. Thanks!
So you recommend quest 3 for PC gaming? I want to get my first headset
@@Strawberry_ZA Yeah absolutely! Go get Quest 3.
I watch movies for the most part, sold my quest 2 for the 3 the pancake lenses will be a game changer for dark settings and the godrays
Your collection is impressive, but to make it complete you should have a Virtual Boy from Nintendo 😉
I have one, see in the glass shelf in the beginning of my videos 😉
Okay, in that case, your collection is complete. My apologies 😉
This video is gold! thanks for your time explaining the basis of vr actual state
You're welcome
Managed to get a rift s $50usd as my first vr headset. definitely decent start, downsides are the headband and the refresh rates are not satisfactory.
Can’t really complain for the amount i paid though
How did you get the Quest 3 early?
He's a press partner of Meta and so was every youtuber who was invited to try the Quest 3 early.
No XRE?
What is the best one for rtx 4090 gaming no matter the cost?
Pimax Crystal
I want nothing to do with base stations. You can't make use of a carrying case and play while traveling, on vacation etc. More hardware to malfunction like the base station red light of death. Replacement base station $200 or more. I own Q2, have a disable Valve Index ( base station ). Pre ordered 512gb Q3, depending on how it performs doing sim racing, I'll get the Pimax crystal for the FOV
How would you compare the Vive Pro to the Bigscreen Beyond (contrast wise, and when playing in a very dark game)?
Is posible to connect 4 vr headsets to one desktop computer? are there game that support 4+ vr headsets at the same time in the same computer?
Your explanation is very good
My OG Vive is struggling 7 years after getting it.
I am actually looking to sell my Vive + Index + Basestations and just buy a Quest 3.
how about "best for flight sims"
Small sweet spot; not properly aligned IPD with not enough in the higher numbers for my eyes; fresnel lenses; glare, chromatic aberration, and distortion; extremely thick cable that I have to lump around; bad comfort; WMR killing any support I have for certain games, as well as introducing a lot of instability, lag, terrible menu interactions, the list goes on regarding WMR; horrid controllers that barely work for most games, as well as can’t even do more hand gestures in VR Chat; terrible room mapping that sometimes just sends me out of my player space randomly; batteries on controller dying within one session…
You get the point.
So I guess I’ll be thinking about it longer, but I really want to upgrade now, even if it feels like I didn’t get my moneys worth out of my current headset, I’d rather not be complaining for the next 900 hours trying to get my moneys worth, when I could spend that 900 hours with a better experience.
i wouldnt mind pimax with their issues
my quest 2 is already a burden to softlocks, laggy messes, game crashes so its nothing new
I can feel the German pronunciation on my skin while watching this video.
hehe
Do you reccomend the quest 2 or quest 3 better?
Of course quest 3
Personally I’m going to keep my money and buy the Vision Pro next year 🤩
Do you need it or can you Juse it without the be satsion
I'm mostly interested in having the virtual desktop and monitor experience, for productivity incentives. I'm also a technical person so I can deal with some setup issues. Which is the most suitable and economical?
Avertising pimax eye/hand tracking modules when they are no longer supported seems like a bad idea.
They are supported for older Pimax headsets
Amazing, informative and extensive review! Great video!
Is Quest 3 better for PCVR than Pico 4. Please, yes or no :D
quest 3 its newer, so it will be better for pcvr for many reasons, but pico 4 cost half the price, in europe at least! so your wallet decides!
@@panostio I have Pico 4 and Quest 2. But i seriously doubt that Quest 3 will be better for PCVR. Waiting for full reviews.
@@panostio I've listed some potential reasons in my other comment next to this one, could you specify some of your many reasons?
@@lowskillcamper i am also a owner of quest 2 and pico 4 and i agree that quest 3 dont seems to be a huge upgrade in this case. i was replying to the first comment if quest 3 or pico 4 is better for pcvr. so if you dont own a hmd and you have the cash, quest 3 seems a better choice for pcvr, because has better refresh rate and fov (which are crusial for me than the resolution), better proccesor (=more computing power) and better pixel density.
Please recommend a virtual reality headset for a 6'53" smartphone for watching movies.
Thanks
The Quest 3 is definitely the Superstar of the list, at the moment. 😅
You have 8 Pimax headsets. EIGHT!!!
That's insane! Mad respect!
😬😬 I think there are even 2 more in the basement, shelf is full.

whats the best headset for sim racing thats cheap and affordable?
Quest 3
quest 2
HP G2
q3 or q2 depending on your budget. you can pick up the q2 for incredibly cheap second hand atm
which one is the best for fpv drones.
I don't use drones, I have not idea to be honest.
I'm thinking about vive pro 2 or quest 3
I'm mostly thinking about resolution and image quality rater than being wireless
I;ve also have base stations and controllers from OG vive so i think its a good choice
Imagine the PC beyond as a meta quest 3 with augmented reality.
You'd put it on in the morning and just go about your day.
Great fun.
