Yes! and Meta had a wristband to command glasses ... but didn't think to pair the wristband as an option for the headset? I get games would need more certain responces, but that wristband and external cameras controling my vrchat experience would be awesome.
@@wrathpsp did he not say discontinued, there is a difference, they are not making more Quest 2. but they will still be updating it. if I'm not completely wrong.
The cost can be cut thanks to the ad revenue meta gets. Another reason they are cheap is because it's fairly difficult to get people interested in VR. Smartphones have been around for over a decade, while standalone AR/VR systems are still relatively fresh on the market.
This doesn't really excuse the absence of a headphone jack but just wanted to note that you should still be able to use them with a USB-C to AUX adapter.
@@Cooe.yes which although true is inconvenient for people who use power banks or are charging the device during use rather than it being a factor of you could just use the usb C port it’s more of a question of why get rid of the perfectly convenient headphone jack that requires no adapter and allows for power bank usage
@@half_real What actual person buying a Quest 3S instead of a 3 wants to play VR for more than 2.5 hours at a time? O_o If you are THAT into VR, get a Quest 3. 🤷
@@half_real on that note the 2.5 hour battery life is a great improvement that I’m glad although maybe not a massive increase from prior builds it is a great amount of time for a small relaxing gameplay session after work etc without draining all the battery and I hope we see more battery length extensions in the future especially if they continue forwards without the headphone jack
The screen door effect on that bad boy is really bad you should at least upgrade to the quest 2 (it’s better than rift as a pcvr headset AND also has stand alone capability and u can probably find one in some timmy’s trash can)

The Vive Focus Vision was absolutely geared for enterprise use and not necessarily for the right reasons. I sat in their announcement for press and corporations and was thoroughly disappointed to hear what they told us. They actively ignored questions about the lack of improved lenses, hardware, or screens and heavily pushed that any question in that realm was: their biggest enterprise customers provided all the feedback that they used for developing the Vision. I spoke to a rep afterwards and was told that it would be "too costly" for their enterpise customers to upgrade all their hardware to a new headset had everything been improved. Instead, it was done to encourage a "more organic transition" from what they currently have. When he told me that they would be slowly phasing out any older Focus headsets over time based on available components, I knew what was happening. Basically, this was a bunch of BS about how Vive is unwilling to advance to the next generation of headsets until they have nickled and dimed every corporate entity while slowly going through their current inventory that's backlogged, under-sold, and desperately needs to be moved. Oh yeah, and I guess they have some very lucrative conteacts with government entities, so they don't want to rock those boats either. It's a huge shame, since I'd easily drop a bit more for all the improvements the headset deserved.
That really is a shame. Especially since having the newer processor was definitely planned at some point, as HTC was listed as one of the companies that was going to use it. I was looking forward to playing standalone VR Chat with a decent framerate and fullbody/eye-face tracking. Guess I'll have to wait another year or two.
The thing is, I am still genuinely tempted by the Focus Vision because things in the PCVR space are so grim. The only other HMD I am considering is the Somnium VR1 which is 3 times the price. I currently use a Rift CV1 which could die at any moment. If you have eye tracking, Display Port, and ability to be mains-powered as red lines, there just aren't many options. I am definitely waiting for reviews though as peeps did not review the Focus 3 favourably, and it seems like the visual experience is nigh identical. I suspect that the automatic IPD adjustment, and the lower price will push it into being reviewed as good-enough. I am worried about the lack of pivot at the front though, and hate how the controllers have non-replaceable integrated batteries.
@@zig131 It is really tempting at the price point and without the FB connection that Quest has. But the fact they seem to be trying to offload older hardware they're committed to selling instead of taking the loss and moving to the next generation tells me that this product is a pump and dump. Wait for the next Vive and we'll all pray they're using current Gen tech for it that time around. In the meantime, get an XR on eBay for 300 bucks or go with a Quest 3.
@@zig131 I am also interested in the new headset, the eye tracking is what I really want, but I don't want to go to a meta headset again for various reasons. I've seen a variety of headsets available right now, but this is the only one that's really peaked my interest.
Everytime He say it "3S" in the video My Brain auto corrected to "3DS" which always made Me Confused and having to go back to Re Hear thoses parts of the video
While i did really appreciate the videos you've put more time into, i'd like to also give a shoutout to your weekly videos. Never once had i thought of them as "low-quality" and they brought me lots of joy as a long-time Fan of VR who often feels that things don't move forward. Your speculations, coverage of news and positive outlook in general were what kindled my fondness for VR and compelled me to pick up my headset more often.
I bought the 3 because I tried Beat Saber on a friends device. The Bluetooth is HORRIBLE. Biggest mistake Meta made. This isn't a phone you fools. Latency means everything.
Orion looks awesome, I'm glad they're giving themselves time to cook. This kind of technology is much less invasive than Vision Pro and with a correct price tag, we might just reach into future with this one.
I feel like it's important to mention if they can function as real glasses too hahaha. I haven't seen that info anywhere but for me (I wear glasses), if they were to actually better my vision + give me cool perks and be VERY customizable (remove notifications etc) I would definitely wear them.
This. If non clunky version of Orion can be made with easy to use and responsive controls while remaining subtle (ie not having to save your arms around in front of you), I could see AR as something very popular in the near future.
I use usb c audio out on my quest 3 so I'm sure that's the case. Personally I actually have a usb splitter so I can charge while using my headphones instead of using the audio jack since I don't have any aux earbuds anymore and don't want to use a bulky headset.
@@therandomcommenter6629Obviously they used fresnel lenses to save money, but I personally wouldn’t buy any headset with fresnel lenses in 2024. I’m not the only one either.
I agree with that, for most comfort you would want a headset with pancake lenses. I have the Quest 2, which is good enough for PCVR, but the fresnel lenses can get annoying, so I don't play for long amounts of time. Waiting for the Quest 4 though, not in a hurry here.
@@therandomcommenter6629 I understand that. However I feel like this is similar to selling a modern phone with a terrible battery, but all the other bells and whistles. Yes on paper it seems great for its price, but having one extreme downside like this is not good for promoting the future and power of VR. VR is already dragging its feet in terms of development, and I honestly haven't seen anything that impressive in the 4 years i've waited for VR to get better. For others it's been even longer.
I have monthly investor meetings in my discord! Been working on a lot of VR software (and a few hardware projects), the crowd funding has 100% enabled that!
Silicon Carbide lenses? wow. Very cool, and I suppose not surprising that it's _something_ high cost considering I heard that they got wacky waveguide tech. I've just never heard of SiC being used for lenses though. It's a quite versatile compound- gemstones, brakepads, sanding, ballistic armor, surge protection, diodes/transistors, and now lenses, something I've never heard of until now.
Just found your channel with your VR UI video and loved it. Glad to see news and alike on your channel too. I hope you are enjoying your life and I am excited for your next video!
The quest 2 is so shitty that honestly when the 4 comes out get it. Even the 3S is worth it honestly for the price point. If you wait till quest 5 you will not be playing newly released vr games for at least 7 years and you will be stuck with all the old, unsupported, buggy, low-graphic games the quest 2 will have.
@@dabbingraccoons6416No offense but all non pcvr games are low budget with abysmal graphics and AR games are a meme, why would I buy an entire headset to play that garbage.
For someone like me who just wants a big cinema screen while I lie in bed, to watch youtube, movies or browse the net, and occasionally play VRChat, the quest 2 still hasn't been beaten. Lack of reclined mode on quest 3 is a real deal breaker that's kept me on Quest 2 even now that my controllers are broken and the tracking is messed up. It doesn't help that my Quest 3 is soft bricked right now, anyway, since I can't get in because it wants me to verify my facebook account, and I can't verify my facebook account because I'm not connected to my new wi-fi, and I can't connect to my new wi-fi because I can't get in. I read that I'm supposed to be able to change it but it just doesn't let me.

The reason it's the iPhone moment is because this is the next leap in technology that's going to lead to the ultimate demise of the smartphone as we know it. This is what Apple wants the Vision Pro to be, but the technology isn't there yet.
In the 90s if you wanted to talk to someone, you had to go meet them, or catch them at home on landline. If you wanted to know anything at all, you had to go to a library, a university, or a field expert. Then in the turn of the century, everybody started communicating from everywhere. Not long after small glass slabs could convey all of the worlds knowledge. Apple may not have the absolute best product, but they do set the markets' tone, and make the tech accessible to more people. Meta is doing as such now; participating in setting the tone, the market standard. The race for the most accessible 'everything device', beyond the glass slab. The next device is a warm rock, without any buttons or screens or ports, that somehow sends data both globally and directly to us. Who will market it first, and at reasonable price?

There are definitely privacy implications to giving camera access to developers. Ideally they'd have access when the headset is in "SDK-mode" or something, but I suppose we'll see where this goes.
70° of FOV with 25 PPD really isn't that bad. That's about the resolution that a CV1 used to have. That's more field of view than an HMT1 used to have, and it's in a sunglasses form factor. 10K per unit is a little steep not gonna lie lol but it's hideously cool to see it. Just gonna say to any meta-employees reading the comments Virtual Game Boy emulator for Orion.
70° is HUGE. I'm working with MS HoloLens 2, you can look up the price of it. The display on that is tiny and the image kind of fades towards the edges too. That makes the actual image seem like you're trying to see it through a peephole.

At 300 US bones this Holiday season, sitting on Best Buy shelves beside the console aisles, with no new Nintendo Switch to compete against in that price bracket, the PS5 Pro being ungodly priced....Q3s will be really attractive to Moms & Dads doing their holiday shopping in the coming months. I prognosticate that over the course of 2025 it's going to come _close_ to the splash the Q2 made.

Starting to find it odd that none of the big vr channels have even mentioned the pico 4 ultra. I know it wasn't released in the US, but there must be more to it. Or has everyone now just become metasentric? As it's starting to feel like meta is all anyone talks about, with the odd 30 seconds to mention apple, HTC or Sony. Is it me??? Or is the hole market just selling meta products for a kickback? Also, it's good to see you back thrill!!!..🎉❤ sorry if the comment seems a bit negative, just feeling a bit overwhelmed with meta news 24/7.
I was kinda looking forward to the ultra. But same here; even my contacts have been silent after their first trial of it, never got back on quality and improvements, beyond listed spec. Nobody posting, and less global importing. I currently have the base Pico 4, and although their appstore is only passible, the hardware for PCVR is solid. _I wish I had gotten the enterprise version with eye tracking though..._
I know a channel with about 200k subs that has reviewed the pico 4 ultra (I know that isnt huge but I feel like that for the vr/xr corner of yt thats still big) its Cas and Chary XR. Sadly her accent is a little difficult to understand (at least I struggle with it from time to time )
Pico and Tiktok belong to the same company. Last year they reduced their investment in Pico, and short-term profits did not meet expectations. Tiktok does not have the same determination for VR as Meta. Pico once had huge potential in the Chinese local market, but now I am not convinced about it.
@PiterTraceurFA I think it was more a case of what nation they don't have good ties with. I forget exactly why it wasn't shipped to the US. However Europe and the UK both have access to it, with even little to no coverage of the pico 4 ultra.
One thing that I can't get over though is that it's kinda like no ones making inovations in controllers anymore like valve. its just copy the touch controllers. even htc is. will anyone make anything new?
This isn't a new thing. Every other major browser is spyware, too - Edge, Chrome, even Firefox. You're only safe if you use something truly FOSS like Zen.
Plus I've heard that some stuff just doesn't work on it, and even with it's reducing ram usage stuff, it still lows PCs down more than it really should
I'm glad you've taken time for yourself to really do what interests you! I feel it's better for everyone, even if some conveniences are lost. I think taking the time to get really hands on with development will give you a very vital worldview when it comes to the VR landscape, as we've already seen with your input on Augmented Reality in this video. I'm curious to see what you try next, and see what projects you get your hands on; especially with early on, or rough projects like GoDot's VR implementation. Love the setup btw. Not remotely close to the iPhone moment. If it were an actual consumer product that was as advertised, but also didn't require the puck or wrist band, and was at an affordable early adopter price of say $500 like the original iPhone, maybe. There's a whole world between that and showing off some work in progress device with random clunky extra parts that won't be out and available to normal consumers for quite some time. Maybe wait and give normal punters a shout along these lines when we get a real iPhone moment in this space in like a couple of years or whatever.

What you did is genuine criticism that i would not consider rage bait because it used examples and precise ways that the video can improve. However i still disagree with what you said, the promo is easily labeled in the progress bar and can be skipped without a second thought. The actual intro is only 20 seconds long, with the rest of the runtime explaining as to why he has broken his upload schedule for so long, which instead of feeling like a scripted intro, feels like an aside directly to returning viewers making it feel shorter than it actually was. As well, for the content for of the video, nearly every line is talking directly about facts and news about the topic, which is exactly what he prepared the viewer for in the intro. Whenever he talks from opinion it is very clear that he is doing so, and even then it is on topic and talking about the news that he had talked about directly prior. None of which i would consider bait nor based on nothing.

It's still a great headset for the price and if you use PCVR, you won't notice much of a difference between that and the 3.
@@FavorlineThey quit updating the Q1 so why should this be different
7:08 500$ is hard to justify for super advanced computer with vision? Then how to justify primitive smartphones selling for 1000$ or more?
The cost can be cut thanks to the ad revenue meta gets. Another reason they are cheap is because it's fairly difficult to get people interested in VR. Smartphones have been around for over a decade, while standalone AR/VR systems are still relatively fresh on the market.
They didnt start at that price

6:02 Can probably use a Type-C to Audio out
I use usb c audio out on my quest 3 so I'm sure that's the case. Personally I actually have a usb splitter so I can charge while using my headphones instead of using the audio jack since I don't have any aux earbuds anymore and don't want to use a bulky headset.

iPhone? Really? No one I know is talking about VR/MR. All of this is neat but still lacks enough daily utility.

70° is HUGE. I'm working with MS HoloLens 2, you can look up the price of it. The display on that is tiny and the image kind of fades towards the edges too. That makes the actual image seem like you're trying to see it through a peephole.
