This is a review based on my experience with the Pro 2, which I'd happily say is the best VR headset you can buy currently. I've tested a lot of VR headsets in the last few years, see the others here - ruclips.net/video/bpRvFLI9L8I/видео.html My review is limited to my personal experience and I didn't measure FOV, so apologies if you are after that sort of technical detail. Instead I based my review on my experience of how the headset ran on my machine with a variety of games while comparing to the past headsets I've tried.
Thanks for vid, about the FOV if you have to measure that to know/be sure.... , for me sounds like almost the same like any other HMD, not a big WOW ! for sure. With is sad... 120fov htc ? yeah sure. Sides of the screen it means = fov cant be bigger with this panels/lensses. How it really is ? Cheers!
It's ok if I fall down the stairs while testing right? TBF, I could find a bigger space but it would have meant moving a lot of things and I figured not everyone is going to have a massive room so it was a more reasonable test. :)
@@TheProvokedPrawn Well done! Not sure that play space is “reasonable” though lol. I’d have to put up a dog gate or something so I didn’t fall down those stairs! :)
Suspicious review not really sure what to make of it. It's silly but personally I can't get past how he is unironically playing Unmodded Skyrim vr with a vignette while telling us it is a reimagining of Skyrim in VR.
I agree that the overall price is a bit too much, and I wish they could find a way to make the cameras smaller and wireless (battery pack). As for the camera setup requirement, I don't see why people find it to be such a hassle. Putting them in the corner is a recommendation only at least for the original VIVE. I got by several weeks of chair VR by just using 1 camera on a shelf till my camera mounts arrived. By the way, For your very small play space I would recommend buying ceiling support poles as they take up very little space, and can be easily taken down when moving to another location (don't forget the pole mount for the cameras).
I think I didn't go into enough detail on the intricacies of FOV and such but that's not my style of review. I'm aiming at more of a relaxed review based on my experience - which was fantastic btw. Appreciate your comment and your view. Thank you.
@@TheProvokedPrawn Actually having such "personal experience" reviews is nice to have too. I'm glad you have fun with the headset. I have mine preordered with expected delivery on 6th June. I used to have Index and I still own Pimax 8KX and Quest 2 and I am not that happy with either of them. Index was enjoyable, but its screen resolution is just plain bad now and I couldn't endure it anymore.
It's people coming from VooDooDE VR's review. he was making claims about it having terrible FOV and the worst sweetspot he had seen in any VR headset ever. There's contention in the comments, as many people are accepting that these things suck, while others are pointing out that it looks like voodoo may have just had terrible settings (minimum IPD and massive display stream compression). They are waiting for other reviewers input to settle the debate, and since this review was more laid back and not about the details of specs, they get upset and dislike for no good reason.
@@AbeDorf18 interesting. Thanks for the knowledge. I didn't have problems with these things as it's the best I've seen and I've tested a lot of VR headsets now. I also didn't have issues with compression, perhaps it would have been a different story with a laptop.

Came here from the VooDooVR review. The guy claimed that the FOV and sweet spot was the worst he'd ever seen on any HMD. Does that match your experience?
@@x32i77 You sure you're getting the difference between objective and subjective here? Objective would be standardized measurements, which I haven't seen done for speakers in any of the reviews for HMDs, ever. And regarding the sweetspot: He was as close to it as he could get with his particular ergonomics. That is not the same as being in the sweetspot as designed from the engineer's perspective. Again, these details matter, especially in something as highly complex as VR. I wish reviewers would post more about their ergonomics other than just stating their IPD. Do they have astigmatism, short-sightedness, if any, what is their prescription for lenses, do they use glasses, contact lenses, do they suffer from any other eye-related non-standard conditions? And don't get me started how Voodoo ran his whole review with the wrong settings. The Vive software sets the target resolutiuon for SteamVR's compositor. And he didn't get that, so basically he run the headset at lower res throughout the whole thing on top of all the aforementioned issues. I have the Index too, and I considered this headset. Bur realistically, the only you get compared to the Index is a bump in resolution, and that for 800€. There is no innovation of any sort beyond that, just outdated controllers and some sub-par features like the microphone. Through the lens the blacks look good and the vive pro 2 is supposed to have a very good contrast ratio using sharps LCD screen 1100:1 contrast which is a lot more than other headsets. This is one of the reasons I sent the G2 back it's black levels were poor and I feel this is an important point with a VR headset. He doesn't mention the contrast wish he had of done.
@@MrJericho07: Hmm, where did you see that it's a Sharp display with 1100:1 contrast? Was that info actually released somewhere? Honestly I'm disappointed they released it with the same controllers, headstrap, IPD adjustment and mediocre microphone as the vive pro that released in early 2018
From what I learned, if you don't have a 30 series gpu, you won't get max resolution for the time being. Not sure why, but it seems like if the dp is below 1.4a it just doesn't work at the moment. Probably driver issues, but only 30 series cards or 1.4a dp compatible ones can make use of the full resolution. So on a 2060 (min req. gpu accord. to them) it looks much worse than a g2 reverb (friend tested it).
That's right, they run it through Display Compression which makes it backwards compatible with 1.2 and older GPUs. Alas I've not got the hardware to test it but they said it won't run at max res or at 120Hz. But that's understandable as the max res is very high.
@@TheProvokedPrawn Right, but they do not advertise it correctly or clearing up the confusion. Their website states the following: "*DisplayPort 1.4 or higher with DSC is required for Full Resolution mode." However, a 2060 super has dp 1.4 and it still doesn't work on max resolution with that.
also just for context on my first comment *GeForce® RTX 20 Series (Turing) or AMD Radeon™ 5000 (Navi) generations or newer required for Full Resolution mode.
@@Mordrede100 That's strange, DSC (display stream compression) is present on GPUs since RTX2000 and RX5000. I used to have a 4K 144Hz monitor that of course required DSC, since 4K at 144Hz is not possible on DP 1.4 without DSC, so I would assume the same is with Vive Pro 2.
@@ThorvaldsenCZ Indeed it is. It could be a sample unique issue, but I rather think it is a software issue. My source is a reviewer in my native language, so it is accurate however unsettling. I mean, vodoo and some others said the lenses are terrible (the native reviewer mentioned that to him 1 person said the left lens is terrible while he said overall it is ok, but not on par with the g2 after they made a direct comparison). We need to wait for more reviewers and potentially early consumers to "beta test" it for us, but it doesn't look to great at the moment. Terrible mic, mediocre audio, questionable lenses, hard setup, expensive cost for a resolution that is maybe usable and a high refresh rate that will potentially be unlocked soon. I really want to like it, since I am planning on buying a headset, but htc made it hard for me to really want to pay that much more compared to other ones...
if they made it inside out like the focus 3, had the focus 3 controllers and made it 1000$ i'd sell my kidneys to buy one. but like this? nope. gotta wait for decagear. 99% of the goodness in theory but less than half the price. also cheaper wireless. I had a vive and the vive wands are good in some ways but HORRIBLE in others. add joysticks and get rid of drift, and prpoer buttons and i'd like it. but the battery life sucks it's big and heavy and tall
@@TheProvokedPrawn for me. it doesn't even have to be standalone.... just designed better and cheaper. there's very few people on earth who can afford a 1400$ headset even if it's incredible
@@TheProvokedPrawn Is that a serious question? It's taken HTC 2 years to come up with this as the VP2... when the original VP was already ridiculed as a virtual non-upgrade on the Vive...

Their website states the following: "*DisplayPort 1.4 or higher with DSC is required for Full Resolution mode."
However, a 2060 super has dp 1.4 and it still doesn't work on max resolution with that.
also just for context on my first comment *GeForce® RTX 20 Series (Turing) or AMD Radeon™ 5000 (Navi) generations or newer required for Full Resolution mode.
Interesting. I too wish there was a consumer grade Focus 3.
@@TheProvokedPrawn for me. it doesn't even have to be standalone.... just designed better and cheaper. there's very few people on earth who can afford a 1400$ headset even if it's incredible
They can't be serious with this, surely
In what way?
@@TheProvokedPrawn Is that a serious question? It's taken HTC 2 years to come up with this as the VP2... when the original VP was already ridiculed as a virtual non-upgrade on the Vive...
Packaging is from the 1990’s
Responsibly sourced materials probably - better for the environment.
I would say the pimax 8k x is the best headset
Sadly I've not tried the Pimax, despite asking. But I'll take your word for it, assuming you've tried this too though?
@@TheProvokedPrawn Sadly I don't have the pimax 8k x but I have a pimax 5k plus which is essentially the same headset except for resolution so I would assume that the pimax 8k x would be the best headset
i don't like htc pro 2 mic
