Tracking is certainly better with the new HTC but you'll pay for the amazing Valve Index Base Stations. Best controllers are def the Valve Index Controllers.

I went with the G2 version 2. It’s has better tracking and improved FOV thanks to the new face gasket. Plus my 3080/12700k can actually run the headset at full resolution at 90hz.
Both sets of controllers suck. Tracking is better one the HP, G2 has amazing audio,/comfort. Pair the index controller to either of these for great improvement. Less God rays on the G2. Neither performs nearly as good as an OLED in dark scenes. I'll be waiting for a next gen. Graphics cards hard a hard time rendering the resolution of either of these at full composition. I have the G2 with the Index controllers..
Vive Pro 2 is a best to be sure but for less than half the price, the G2 is just worth it, especially if you're just gaming on it. Both of these headsets reach the point where they could replace your monitor. It's pretty cool that we've reached that point, especially for $599 in the case of the G2.

The halo config on the PSVR is the best I've experienced for comfort but even then it gets uncomfortable for me after no more than 2 hours. So there are still some kinks to work out with design but the functional part is solved. I purchased the Vive Pro 2 and found that is does get a little warm due to the padding on the headset so I purchased the Leather pads from Vive and that made a big difference. It is much cooler with the leather pads from Vive. Hope this info is of some help. 👋
It's literally the best tracking you can get and the only tracking you can get if you want decent full body tracking. It's superior in every possible way except cost. I don't get why people keep reporting it as a bad thing. Enthusiasts want the "best option", not the "good enough option". Base Station tracked headsets aren't designed to end up in the hands of people who are looking for the cheapest solution.
I'm still on the G1 Reverb. I'm still pretty happy with it and have integrated vive trackers and a base station into my setup, might even get index controllers and another base station.
I really want to get the G2 but a lot of people say it needs the station thingy that I have no clue about. But anyways is it that necessary? I really can’t afford to get anything more but the G2. I’m avoiding the quest 2 since the Facebook accounts and stuff. So can someone please tell me does the G2 need anything more than itself (vr headset alone w controllers)?
Judging by lots of already very mixed reviews, this sounds like it`s going to be as contentious as the G2 was/is. Maybe more so. What are your pc specs btw? Most of us can’t even run the G2 on its highest resolution settings at 90hz in most games, and because most VR games are so horribly optimized even 3090s can’t do it either. I don’t see that improving anytime soon for VR content developers either, so its going be several years of hardware like this being way overkill for our systems and most games poor optimization. I see this headset being the most worthwhile investment for those that already have the base stations etc. Those that have to pay for everything i just don’t see the money being worth it over the small upgrade over the G2,
Also, doesn’t the PRO 2 have eye tracking? So once foveated rendering becomes a thing, it’ll be compatible? Once tech like Nvidia’s DLSS is properly compatible with VR that’ll help too. It’s technically compatible since 2.1 says Nvidia but developers I’ve talked to says it’s problematic.
I have been told that with the Vive pro 2, You now need to run the new Vive software program to use Steam. You did not have to do this before. Is this True? Also told you have to adjust your resolution settings in both programs as well. Is this also true?
I own both Reverb G2 and Vive Pro 2, and I also play DCS. Personally I am favoring the Reverb G2. Problems with the Vive Pro 2 that I have noticed. The sweet spot of pure clarity is much smaller than the G2. Which means the HMD in game is bit more blurry as well as text or other aircraft, unless you're looking directly at the target in the center of the headset. The other issue is that flying at night and looking at lights you will see a higher level of glair on the Vive Pro 2. The G2 doesn't have this problem.
I have the G2 with base stations and knuckles controllers. Is it worth upgrading to the pro? I want more fov. But the higher resolution means more gpu power🤔😬 got 2080 ti.
I got the same set up and ordered the new pro 2 .... I hate the G2 looool nothing but problems... But I'm guessing even the new head sets there's gonna be problems :/ Only thing which is good about the G2 is the bang for buck it's very cheap

I disagree with you on the Vive Wands. I've gone from the Wands to the Valve Index Controllers and the Vive wands suck by comparison. Actually without any comparison they still suck because playing Boneworks with them is a straight up painful experience. The only game they're not a nightmare to use in is Beatsaber.
I hate Windows Mixed Reality software, it keeps creating virtual screens that I can't get too and then opening apps in them that I can get to, it is one of the big flaws with the G2, including a face plate that is too narrow and uncomfortable, and a smaller max IPD. I have a G2, it is unplugged and I should sell it. I have the Vive Pro and everything set up, so an upgrade to the Vive Pro 2 is the best option for me.
It is a great headset! That said, after I experienced the visual quality and the clarity on the G2 I sold my Index. The SDE and res on the Index is workable, but a very subpar experience. There was just no going back. The G2 has other flaws though... hoping the VP2 will hold me over until something better.
I have a g2 and only use VR for sim racing. Apparently you actually NEED a base station to even be able to use this headset? Was thinking if this would be worth it over the g2 for sim racing alone, might have to wait for the next best thing as im not sure if this is a big enough leap forwards, thanks!
The only real advantage is going to be the wider field of view, maybe the refresh rate if you can actually achieve 120. That and avoiding HP Reverb G2 usb connectivity hell
@@TheProvokedPrawn I mean... Al depends on the game I guess, there are some... Ehem... Sugestive games out there 🤣 also just watch your review and unboxing and I think the very vive is the way to go, seems very promising, a little GPU hungry due to 5k but just the fact that full body would be easier to rig up due to the newer light boxes, the same could be said for the index but we all know they are rarer the rocking horse s*@t right now
You can´t criticize the G2 controllers, because they are not supported in old games that were released before the G2 was released. You can criticize the developers of the games for not updating their games which they still wanna sell. Luckily, some VR users share their custom bindings on Steam, so that is not that big of a deal. I definitly recommand not buying the Pro 2 bundle with the old controllers (wands) which not even have thumbsticks. Buy the Valve index controllers instead on Steam
G2 controllers were okay for me... now the tracking, that's another story. Definitely Index controllers all the way. If you are using Index controllers it's nearly impossible to downgrade from that.
Hi PP, interesting video that has left me in somewhat of a quandary. I have an I9 9900K, 2080TI gaming PC bought specifically and entirely for iRacing. I have an 80:20 profile cockpit and think it is extremely unlikely that I will play any other games other than iRacing. I am thinking of buying another VR headset previously had a quest 2 (very unimpressed) . Im less bothered about tracking as obviously will be sat in a cockpit. For me calarity(especially in the distance for brake markers etc and visuals is my number one priority) My question is this, if you wouldn't mind giving me your honest opinion. Money no object and given my intended use which one of these headsets would you personally recommend?
Which has less SDE/higher perceived clarity, the reason I ask is because even though the vive pro 2 has a higher resolution it is spread across a larger fov, so I'm wondering if when taking that into consideration if the clarity itself is actaully better then the g2.
The only question is : is there screendoor effect or is it gone?!” I returned my vive pro because it had horrible resolution and im nit going to pay so mutch money for vr if it still has pixelated scren
Wait. I pre-ordered a Vive pro 2. But it said no where that I needed that box. I did buy the 2.0 stations. But what is that connecting box you talk about? I'm coming from a reverb g2.
@@TheProvokedPrawn Yeah, bought the index knuckles, the 2.0 stations and the USB dongles(those I didn't know of and after I received the stations and the controllers I was so hyped...yet I couldn't use them yet....had to buy the dondgles...still waiting for them).
The G2 is garbage, the headset itself feels cheap, the strap on it is cheap and uncomfortable, the G2 has a small fov which I find annoying for games, tracking is terrible, display is blurry at times when you look in certain areas, controllers are awful, batteries in controllers doesn't last very long and you have to keep replacing the batteries, Steam vr games don't work right, I have the G2 and I regret ever buying the headset, right now it is just sitting aside in my closet as a closet ornament, forgot to mention the Windows Mixed Reality software is useless junk and never works right with anything either, I would say get any other vr headset besides the G2, my favorite vr headsets are the Index and Quest 2 which I currently use, I probably would prefer the Vive Pro 2 over the G2 if I were you though, anything over the G2 which I think is the biggest piece of junk for a vr headset that was ever made

You forget that the mic from the vive pro 2 is terrible also the audio isnt great,The g2 beats its with these things by far! Also there is more glare on the vive pro 2
I didn't forget those things as that wasn't my experience. Yes, the mic isn't great, but no headset mic is good in my experience and I didn't have glare issues.
I made a mistake and the IPD range of the Vive Pro 2 is actually between 57 to 70.5mm. Apologies for the error.

I see this headset being the most worthwhile investment for those that already have the base stations etc. Those that have to pay for everything i just don’t see the money being worth it over the small upgrade over the G2,
i don't think regular optimization is going to do as much for performance as foveated rendering will, whenever that gets into consumer headsets
Accordng to Virtual Reality Oasis you have to run it to run SteamVR. I find this weird but this new software do come with some nice features tho.
The real question is it worth getting. I play DCS but the pass through I could use virtual monitors for work?
I say it wouldn’t be worth it but yes the 2080ti can run it fine but in my mind higher fov is better than resolution
I got the same set up and ordered the new pro 2 .... I hate the G2 looool nothing but problems... But I'm guessing even the new head sets there's gonna be problems :/
Only thing which is good about the G2 is the bang for buck it's very cheap
@@reecechapman251 i have no problems with mine. Maby god rays is going to be a problem for me on the pro 2 and focus 3.
Superb video camera that you are using for recording this video. What is it and what video editing software you using?

Nice video! Where did you get the glass skull headset stand?

Algorithm Engagement Alert! I LOVE your content! All hail the algorithm!
I've lend the reverb g2 for 3 month for 100€. I'm very excited playing Half Life Alyx
no words about godrays nor sweat spot
I disagree with you on the Vive Wands. I've gone from the Wands to the Valve Index Controllers and the Vive wands suck by comparison. Actually without any comparison they still suck because playing Boneworks with them is a straight up painful experience. The only game they're not a nightmare to use in is Beatsaber.
blabla the important thing how the display is, were is the inlense capture
How is the sweetspot for the PRO 2?
I didn't have issues with it. The experience was great.
Hm not sure if you can say the best if the Valve Index has higher FOV and refresh rate and is generally a very good headset, priced in between both.
It is a great headset! That said, after I experienced the visual quality and the clarity on the G2 I sold my Index. The SDE and res on the Index is workable, but a very subpar experience. There was just no going back. The G2 has other flaws though... hoping the VP2 will hold me over until something better.
2:48 This also possible on the HP Reverb G2 same function, same ability to do so if you choose.
@@robertswiedals5731 yea I experienced those usb problems. Something simply working is worth so much.
Prawn: Wouldn't recommend bashing your wife during vr games>
Me laughing because of the enuendo xD
Still, quality content and very informative :)
Hehehe. She did not appreciate it, but I didn't think about that way of taking it too. LOL
@@TheProvokedPrawn I mean... Al depends on the game I guess, there are some... Ehem... Sugestive games out there 🤣 also just watch your review and unboxing and I think the very vive is the way to go, seems very promising, a little GPU hungry due to 5k but just the fact that full body would be easier to rig up due to the newer light boxes, the same could be said for the index but we all know they are rarer the rocking horse s*@t right now
How is the sweet spot of the pro 2
I didn't have issues with it. The experience was great.
smaller than index
@@moncimoov Are you speaking from personal experience?
Awesome My IPD is 72mm definitely buying this as my IPD is 72
Ah i need to update that. I made a mistake (they have it wrong in the specs) it is actually 70.5mm
Are you an alien?
Vive Pro 2 imo.
Many thanks dude.....and keep up the good work!!
Which has less SDE/higher perceived clarity, the reason I ask is because even though the vive pro 2 has a higher resolution it is spread across a larger fov, so I'm wondering if when taking that into consideration if the clarity itself is actaully better then the g2.
The Vive Pro 2 review on Adam Savage's channel says the clarity is less.
@@Lesbean_Burrito i m agree with that
Mod your G2 and put on a thinner face pad and your good to go!
The only question is : is there screendoor effect or is it gone?!” I returned my vive pro because it had horrible resolution and im nit going to pay so mutch money for vr if it still has pixelated scren
Hello, I have both, VP2 and G2. VP2 still have screendoor effect, more than G2.
Wait. I pre-ordered a Vive pro 2. But it said no where that I needed that box. I did buy the 2.0 stations. But what is that connecting box you talk about? I'm coming from a reverb g2.
You should get that with the headset. It's just what's used to connect to your PC :)
Oh ok. I thought it was something else I had to buy. Great review. Subscribed. New fan here.
nope you should be ok. As long as you have controllers?
@@TheProvokedPrawn Yeah, bought the index knuckles, the 2.0 stations and the USB dongles(those I didn't know of and after I received the stations and the controllers I was so hyped...yet I couldn't use them yet....had to buy the dondgles...still waiting for them).
Oooh knuckles should be good.
"They are able to stand up to that sort of abuse."
The wives or the controllers? 💀
Love that your name is "smasher" and you're asking this :D
Im here because of the negative feedback regarding the HP G2. at this point i am actually not sure which one to get. .. :(
The G2 is garbage, the headset itself feels cheap, the strap on it is cheap and uncomfortable, the G2 has a small fov which I find annoying for games, tracking is terrible, display is blurry at times when you look in certain areas, controllers are awful, batteries in controllers doesn't last very long and you have to keep replacing the batteries, Steam vr games don't work right, I have the G2 and I regret ever buying the headset, right now it is just sitting aside in my closet as a closet ornament, forgot to mention the Windows Mixed Reality software is useless junk and never works right with anything either, I would say get any other vr headset besides the G2, my favorite vr headsets are the Index and Quest 2 which I currently use, I probably would prefer the Vive Pro 2 over the G2 if I were you though, anything over the G2 which I think is the biggest piece of junk for a vr headset that was ever made
VP2 it is then. Thanks mate
I wonder how it is compared to the index. I want something high resolution for flight sims and maybe add wireless capability later to pc.
"They're able to stand up to that sort of abuse"
Wait your wife or the controllers?
Hahaha
I just ordered a G2 but I've heard that people who have X570 motherboards which is what I have have had issues, so let's see how this goes when it gets here on Tuesday
I use Reverb G2 with B550 MB, works fine with the two front panel USB 3.2 gen 1 ports, but only those!
Not one of the rear USB ports including the USB 3.2 gen 2 ports (two type "A" and one "C") have any fuctionality with the Reverb. (FWIW It's an asus B550-E, and I have the latest bios.)
Is the FOV really 120°?
Yes read mrtv written review. You need a slim face foam though
Yep, 10 less than the Index
@@jorisbonson386 117°h/96°v , index got 109°h/108°v

It was a boxing game too. I must have a weak punch.
You forget that the mic from the vive pro 2 is terrible also the audio isnt great,The g2 beats its with these things by far! Also there is more glare on the vive pro 2
