Waiting on that Hypervision optical tech + inside out tracking + eye tracking (and hopefully a basic passthrough) + some kind of audio solution or headphone jack packaged in a form factor that sits between BSB and Pico 4. If I were buying now and exclusively a sim player I'd do the Crystal, if I did social vr or other game content primarily I'd go with the Beyond.
Not quite cost effective for the experience to me yet. I'm buying pc hardware, games and stuff for the house. Not to mention trips, Disney and Universal tickets, rooms and airfare. If Im going to extend myself on VR, it has to be more affordable and come with the right bells and whistles.
The lack of inertia induced motion blurring (as the headset shifts around on your face when you move) is a big plus to the BSB that I think is not getting enough attention. It lends to a far more natural experience looking around, where you are not subconsciously accommodating a display shifting relative to your eyes.
Finally received my Beyond and this is finally the technology I've been waiting for since early Oculus prototypes. This is truly the best headset ONLY if your IPD is dialed perfectly, if not make sure to RMA this back to Bigscreen. Because even 1mm on one of the eyes will throw everything out. Also it may use better head strap.
Going for the BSB. Started with the Quest 2, and it sucks not being able to look straight down without having the headset fall off my head, and gray looking blacks. I can’t wait to have truly immersive vr.
I received the Crystal yesterday and I already decided to return it. It’s the most uncomfortable thing. Have ever tried… I’m a big guy and very strong but this thing is bulky and heavy and hurts my nose after 4-5 mins. The wobbling is big and hurts…. I have a motion system for sim racing and this makes the thing more uncomfortable and painful . I will be in the fence for the Big Screen … maybe il will have a bit less resolution and clarity and a bit less FOV but the weight is 170gr and it fits perfectly your face and won’t wobble at all with my motion system.
Hello. Please make sure you have the headset adjusted properly. If the headset is touching your nose at all then it is not properly placed on the head. The back strap has to be positioned as far down the back of your head as possible. Under the crown of the head. The front of the headset should not sit on your nose at all. Only the light covers should make contact with the nose.
Got my Crystal today. Everything worked flawlessly out of the box, didn't have to do any tinkering at all, I think a lot of early reviews may have judged the software too harshly. It definitely delivers on the hype of the panels and lenses. The 8KX strained my eyes in a weird way that made me feel like I could never get the IPD dialed in just right, but I'm happy to report that the Crystal does not have that problem. However it is definitely uncomfortable, and I'm constantly fumbling with it on my head to make sure it's staying balanced in the sweet spot. I strongly agree that it's not the best choice for shooter games, for this reason. Looking forward to getting my Beyond to compare.
@@ThePape78 previous pimax headsets has a poorly made lense. Definitely 3d effect looks weird on pimax 5k Plus i used to have. I remember pimax said they gonna have new lense back 2018 but they cancelled it. Pimax knew lenses are not good and hope people dont notice it
I highly doubt the reason the Crystal is so big is because of the lenses..lol. The reason its so big is because its the shell for the 12K. They couldn't afford to create a smaller one just for the Crystal.
The official reason they gave, iirc, is that they went it to share the housing with the 12K so they can share accessories and so that development towards the Crystal would also be towards the 12K. So yeah, definitely not just the lenses.
If we had used different shells it would have also required different PCBs, different faceplate accessories, different tooling at the factory, etc. End cost for the consumer would have been significantly higher if we had gone that route. This way the accessories are compatible between different models, we produce less waste and cause less damage to the environment. If dropping costs for the consumer while also reducing damage to the environment is bad, then lock us up.
@@WhatsupAbroad Honestly, I'd say that, while the headset is bulky, it doesn't feel like it when wearing it. It's quite comfortable, and well balanced. The image quality is even better than I've imagined, so I don't mind that approach. You guys have made an excellent product!
Thanks Seb, well made out comparison. Personally, as a simmer, I've bought the Crystal, but it's great we have different options that are prioritizing different things, instead of having carbon copies.
@@CorporateZombi Haven't noticed any difference than other headsets with a knob with my flight simpit, tbh. Something like the G2 is much more comfortable in that setup, though.
@@CorporateZombi If you've ever tried any other headset with an adjustment knob then it'd be like that. It's not really much of a problem if you use a neck rest though.
Pimax should make a "lite version" of the crystal. No battery, no cpu, no wireless functionality and also no eye tracking if it ads a lot to the price of the finished product.
Agreed with everything except eye tracking. Eye tracking allows to use your gpu more efficiently by rendering 100% resolution and level of detail only where your eye is focused. So you could actually save money by buying a smaller gpu. Or extracting more efficiency from a beastly gpu.
I'm still waiting for my perfect headset and what I want in my perfect headset is; 100+degree FoV, ≥2.5k per eye, ≥80Hz, wireless, hot-swap battery whether standard or aftermarket (ex: BOBOVR), eye tracking with foveated rendering, face tracking, inside-out tracking (HMD & controllers), ≤500 grams, non-fresnel lenses, prescription integration, off-ear audio, clear mic, native SteamVR support. If you took the best parts from the Quest Pro, Crystal, and Beyond, this would be the one.
Hi @MRTV . I bought the Crystal and it doesn't fit my face - it way to wide for me. Do you have any info where I can purchase a nice leather plush face mask, not spongy one ? Love the video . Thanks :)
I would buy the Bigscreen just for the form factor as there is nothing comparable on the market and I respect the company's response to the feedbacks, being innovative and their reputation before. As for Pimax....I better don't even mention as my thoughts about that company and their poor products drive Sebastian crazy :)
Tbh, their marketing choice and utilization of the community was a large selling point for me with the Beyond. I was interested and nearly sold, but the way they chose to get user feedback is a breath of fresh air.
I think bigscreen still get hot with closed off eyes. While not the best, the quest pro with some comfort mods and open design will never make me run hot.
They kinda lied about the resolution, as its upscaled 1920x1920 at 90hz... so there goes the reputation. But hey, its not chinese so mrbilginc is all for it :) Because china evil.
Doubtful HP will release a Reverb G3 anytime soon. Rumor has it they are done with VR for the time being... not even producing G2 after 2023 and will end support in 2026.
The odyssey plus has a design flow you can correct by tilting the back up and open enlarging the bottom of the original face gasket on the front. This will help your face entering fully inside the headset and give you almost total vertical field of view.Try it.
@Sebastian I was trying the Pimax Crystal today, I noticed quite some distortion depending on how you place the headset on your face. Very noticeable when the headset moves a little with fast head movements. Is that the aspherical lenses? Does the Varjo have a similar problem? How about other headsets?
Its talked about at in the video. And yes it is the lenses. In particular it means you are not in the sweet spot. Where most VR headsets have their sweet spot based on calrity, the aspheric lenses are clearn no matter where you have it. But if you don't have it in the sweet spot the image will distort. It took me a while to figure it out, but I figured it out. The crystal actually has a pretty small sweet spot and if its really far off, just take the headset off and put it back on. that will trigger the fheadset centering feature which will help you get it in the sweet spot. When its there you get 0 distortion.
Bigscreen is 999 BUT ... excluded iPhone XS. Because you need 3D scanning your face. Bigscreen needs 3D scan to make custom padding. So if you have not iPhone with lidar scan module, it will not easy if you don't know somebody around with expensive iPhone. Because the big front of Pimax, i prefer stay at size like Pico4 / Quest 3 in future. Just good because i want play different games without problems for my neck and less hitting front with controllers. 1,12 KG is al lot weight too, makes some games less good, like shooters.
The one thing I'm not sure about and not seen clarified yet about the beyond is are the lenses iPd adjustable at all so there could be a potential to get a secondary generic gasket to show other people the headset? That's the one thing that I think would make a huge difference if you could pay extra for a secondary facial interface or buy a third party one for others to try
The facial interface is custom fit to your face, but swapping it out for another wouldn't affect the set IPD of the lenses and panels. That is locked into place by spacer plates. At one time, it looked like these plates might be replaceable with others that could allow the IPD to be changed if needed, but even that would not be something you'd want to do repeatedly for two people with differing IPDs. Given that the Bigscreen team has basically been telling people in Discord and online that the IPD for each unit is fixed, I don't know if the production units will allow for the user to change the IPD at all.
@@Spamuelow Yeah, the custom nature for each person is spun as a feature, but it is really just the result of a simpler design that allows the HMD to be lighter. None of the moving parts for adjustment of any kind means no weight from those parts. I understand the reason, but I don't personally consider it to be the best approach overall. I think the weight and size savings from using uOLED and pancake lenses is enough without sacrificing adjustable eye relief and IPD. That said, the fact that Bigscreen was formerly a software only company means that a simpler design may have been the smarter approach for their first hardware product. I do still maintain that every high end HMD should use Valve's off-ear audio or something comparable. Perhaps their on-ear audio strap will have great sound quality, but I don't think it's possible for it to be as comfortable even if the audio quality stacks up.
They never mention that VAT is not included in the advertised price. You have to pay another 300 euros for VAT. Then you have to pay 100 euros for shipping and another 100 euros for the DMAS speakers as the built in ones are terrible. So the real price of the Pimax Crystal is 2000 euros once you add everything up.
If/when you do a TTL comparison, it would be nice to see how BSB compares to the Vive Pro 2 since the VP2 is in the same resolution tier. I'm not sure how well it will show up on camera but it would be nice to see how big a difference Micro-OLED makes over LCD especially when it comes to black levels.
Massive difference as the response rate is so low on oled that you'd be mistaken for thinking 75hz oled was running at 90. Can't show this in a vid but the blacks you will definitely see
Yep, as someone who used the VP2 I would like to know comparisons between them. Would love something smaller and lighter but don't want as much screen glare as I heard is in the big screen. Looking for something to be my next headset but don't know if whatever it will be is even out yet. Was hoping this small little vr set would be it.
It's a shame that pimax didn't release the crystal just as a lighthouse hmd only. Would be so much Lighter and cheaper not having to pay for battery, controllers, CPU etc. Would of bought that option easy over the beyond.
High chance you would loose other features as well - just more PCVR. In a way, it was the smarter move. Its a bit of a setback depending on how you look at it, but its also a step forward for future headsets. BSB will have to also do the same in the future as things continue to have the features of a real compute headset that you can use anywhere - so their next headset more than likely have some of the same issues. Light house is kind of a dead end for stand alone - and more so for newer users that dont wanna setup a play space in one of the rooms.
Really, Pimax should iterate on their 8KX to improve the form factor, weight, visuals and performance and price, but they just don't have the resources to do all of that. I think they should have built-in Lighthouse tracking into the headset as is, rather than charging extra for it, but it may be a revenue thing - to squeeze a little more out of most of their customers - Apple is really good at doing this with their products. In Pimax's case, I don't entirely blame them - even with their capital funding, they're really needing to get their best returns from sales for those capital investors.
@@Kryojenix Personally I think it just shows that LH isnt that cheap either to have. For the people that already bought into it - it makes sense - but the people not already in it - it doesnt make sense to now have to spend another 500$ for it.
Great review.. apart from @06:52 -> DCS players probably will disagree...there is no relaxing or enjoying the view 🤣.. Not when you're trying to maintain tally on bandit(s), or worse looking for IR missile smoke 😅
I ordered a big screen, have my base stations and knuckles on standby waiting. Next on my list is either a Deckard for me and sharing, or Quest 3 for my kids
Quest Pro for wireless pcvr is a great, and cheaper, compromise between the two in the video and actually fixes flaws with both of those, while having the best bits of both (best pancakes great colour local dimming inside out tracking inc controllers) The resolution drop isn’t a big deal either with current GPUs. Quest Pro is a killer PCVR hmd and totally underrated and amazing value now vs these super flawed and not ready for prime time hMDs
Bigscreenbeyond looks like actual cyberware on Seb with the slick hair and that tshirt! 😎 They should add front cameras for a passthrough view, where a wide FoV is placed into the corners of the view like blindspot side mirrors in a car and plug into a backpack laptop so we can walk around town, posing...
Both are very tempting. It is SO hard to decide which one to get. I like the crystal for it's features but I've been chasing comfort and oled blacks for so so long. I think maybe I'll stick with the Beyond for now and just wait for the 12k. If the Crystal could be used for the tradeup, then I would've went with the Crystal.
It’s okay, once you get it will be more nightmares too. I’ve had 2 fiber optic cables fail and my eye tracking in both lenses only lasted a month before stopping working. I’ve given up I got a beyond
I think I will stick to my Index, still not enough of innovation to switch! And btw, enough second hand VR headset for sale like the Vive for anyone who want to try VR before spending lot of money.
If new to vr people try vr first time with original Vive, they would not get into vr(blurry image, uncomfortable, pixellated screen). Google cardboard and Samsung Gear vr reallt give vr tech very bad reputation back then
Another fantastic video from the GOAT and maestro of VR content! Excellent comparison my friend. I'm personally not interested in either of these headsets because I want something with a much wider FOV. So we'll see what happens when the 12K QLED as it approaches its release. But my REAL wish and hope, is that we get an announcement from a VR company within the next couple of months, that they are developing a new headset using HyperVision's 240° FOV lenses. That's the announcement that will make me extremely happy. Do you have info on any such news Sebastian?
Ordered big-screen beyond seems best for vrchat. Pimax is an unfinished product with missing features and a bad track record so a hard pass until and if things improve.
I've heard in another video that Crystal takes advantage of eye traking so software shows up and down arrows to help setting the vertical pupil placement, is that right?
Hmmmmm!!!!! Uhhh! Was I waiting for this video comparison????? LOL!!!! I don't think so. Just kidding. I enjoy all your videos even though I am not in the market to buy one of these. You do a great job with visual comparisons on VR headsets. Thanks for the video and take care.
Pro controllers are proprietary. They only work on the meta echo system (quest 2, quest pro, and eventually quest 3). They will (more than likely) never get resources for 3rd party support.
@@HeckinDoga That also brings up the idea that a 3rd party player could make some controllers like these for all headsets if they wish to. Surprise we havent seen anyone try it yet. Would be a big win for all these other headset vendors that dont want to make their own controllers/tracking and or will hold them up from their main core.
I need nosegap , not just to see my surroundings but also to use the controls in my cockpit, gameglass keyboard etc. With crystal I can simply remove the nose flaps, with the bigscreen not so much. Even if I could Light entering could be a killer for that panel , since the brightness would not be high enough not being sealed in.
I am really interested in the Pimax Portal. Looks like a smaller lighter cheaper headset. I think the cheapest PCVR headset with mini LED. Also maybe able to be used outside without the UV issues Meta headsets have.
why is the pimax so huge for such a standard type FOV. I get around that with my odyssey plus. I also read they changed something in the bigscreens beyond to get 101? The crystal is listed as 110 horizontal. 101 is quite disappointing for the tremendous size.
I didn’t see this video but this is so funny because I just got a crystal and these were the two I was torn between. I got the crystal for a steal though, $1,099 with the lighthouse faceplate and a carrying case.
Hi Sebastian. If you could only choose one headset between the Crystal and the Beyond, which would you prefer? You can only choose one, which would it be? Thank you and thumbs up to this video.
is the pimax crystal better than the xtal 8k? it seems like size/weight/specs are pretty similar and they both have aspheric lenses. xtal hurts my nose and doesnt have the over ear headphones
It is much less front heavy than the xtal, though the Xtal has a wider FOV than the Crystal. I believe they report 180 degrees diagonal. Overall the comfort of the Crystal is better than the Xtal in my opinion as a Pimax employee. We also include a lot of features that Xtal doesn't and at a much more affordable price point. Try it out!
Total VR noob here... if all I want VR for is flight simming, and I plan on using my sim hardware and mouse for inputs, do I need base stations at all with the Beyond?
What is the difference in brightness OG Vive vs Beyond? Finally back to OLED. My only concern is that you won't be able to return or resell the product so I'm still on the fence ... :/
@@thelelanatorlol3978 Where did you get those brightness numbers from? I have been waiting for someone to test the brightness of BSB and compare the numbers with other headsets. I remember when HP upped the brightness of the reverb G2 changing it from an average display to a fantastic one for the time.
It´s going to be none of them. But if i wanted to spend that amound of money, i would buy the crystal. Everything onboard, that i need to start. If i had lighthouse tracking, i would buy the big screen beyond, if i wanted to spend that much money^^ But i´ve got my Reverb G2 and do not need a better image. I´ve seen the Aero and thought "too expensive for this little bit better image". Under 1000€ the G2 is the best PCVR HMD, when you do not need the better tracking like Quest 2 or Pico 4.
Great comparison, just one correction - BigScreen Beyond is not "a bit more expensive" in Europe, it's 50% more expensive which is a lot. PSVR2 and Valve Index are around 20% more expensive compared to the US price without tax - that's "a bit" 😉
@@mixedrealityTV I'm comparing the official prices in dollars and and euro. Also there are some states that have no additional tax or that tax is very low. The official price of BigScreen Beyond on their US store is 999$ and in their EU store is 1369€, which is 50% more. If you do the exact same comparison for PSVR2 and Valve Index the difference is 20%. Valve Index without tax - 999$ (same as Beyond) vs 1079€ - 17% more expensive, almost 300€ cheaper than Beyond. PSVR2 without tax - 549$ vs 599€. 20% more expensive. Tax is irrelevant because it's different in each state and some states don't have it. In Europe countries have different vat rates (Poland has 23%) and yet the euro price is the same for all. The most obvious way to see the difference is to compare Valve Index full kit price, because it costs exactly the same as BigScreen Beyond - 999$. And yet beyond's euro price is almost 300€ (28%) higher than Index euro price, which sucks for European customers.
@@森里螢一-f3c Whew, what a relief! The only problem is they're bigger, heavier, even more expensive and meant for business, not consumers. "The XTAL Virtual Reality headset is developed and designed for pilot training, with the input of civil and military pilots, to fulfill their professional expectations. " "Varjo Aero is the newest virtual reality headset in our portfolio of industrial-grade VR headsets. " Yeah, so basically exactly like BigScreen /s It's a flawed comparison. Don't compare BigScreen to Varjo and XTAL, just don't.
@@森里螢一-f3c I assume you were not even aware that cheapest XTAL is 9200$ (without taxes and customs) - yes, the european company has the price of XTAL displayed in American dollars. Varjo Aero is 1990$ exlcluding tax and 1990€ excuding tax, so it's actually CHEAPER in USA, despite the fact that it's a european company. So much for buying European brands for "cheaper prices" I guess.
If playing a very active game with the Crystal I recommend adding a 3rd party top strap. There are also some pads for the back of the head which can improve comfort. If you combine those two you should be able to almost completely eliminate the inertia issue.
@@WhatsupAbroad I have a heavily modded Quest 1, weighing > 1 kg due to lots of straps and counter weights. The comfort is pretty good, I think, but still, I imagine it must be so much better with a
Bigscreen changed the way you look at VR though. I think the next generation of VR headsets will be a lot smaller form factor. Biggest thing with VR is the heat. All VR headsets need a fan system in the face section.
I can’t accept visuals win going to pimax with lcd screen when oled is far superior. I’ve tried to replace my vive pro with g2 and quest pro. Sold both and stuck with the oled vive pro. Higher resolution is no substitute for colour contrast. Would love to know if there’s a significant colour contrast difference between crystal and quest pro. It also had local dimming and fell way short of the brighter more vibrant vive pro panels.
I think what matters to you is based on what games you play. If you play flight sims, its all about resolution. Many would take black and white over color if it means higher resolution in that gaming space (only kind of kidding) but obviously other types of VR players will gravitate towards color.
@@zackeryhardy9504 primary use is flightsim. Had simultaneously vive pro and g2, kept vive pro. Then later bought quest pro to compare and decided to keep the vive pro instead. Night flight in oled is incredible. Night flights with lcd has no emotional impact and also you can’t see as much detail. Oled can distinguish sky against horizon much more clearly at night. Difficult to explain but it’s superior even at 1/2 or 1/4 the pixel
22:26 I would define the controllers as very basic. Even when playing Alyx you get a lot of what I would call "noise". Trying to shoot at far away enemies is basically impossible because the controllers move so much even on their own and on the latest firmware. Head movement makes the controller move even when it's standing in place and the headset tracking sometimes makes you lose the standing height or floor altogether. The faceplate will probably solve most of this but it's not an acceptable solution as people have to pay for an add-on, base stations and controllers if they don't already own them. Best thing they could do is fix whatever they already have instead of shifting their development to the faceplate or whatever else they have in mind. This could become a finished product and sell much more even only because of its visuals which are really amazing. Except for a distortion problem in my left lens I see the same resolution as my monitor. I believe even though base station tracking will always be superior, inside-out will be the most usable in the future because of its simplicity and because most of the times it's just fine. If they can get to Pico 4 quality that would already be something as I don't expect they have the same resources as Meta. Also the standalone mode will need at least acceptable controller tracking, not what we have right now.
Have base stations from the 8KX, so a no brainier for me. BSB certainly not perfect, but cannot wait to get the brick off my face, with my fast motion sim.
I've gotta say that I'm extremely impressed by the inside out tracking in my Pimax Crystal. I also have a Vive Pro (with lighthouse 2.0 base stations) and in my experience, I had so many issues with my controllers when using the Vive Pro and have had none at all with the crystal controllers so BRAVO Pimax!
12:33 That's it, I'm waiting for 12K Can't justify getting Bigscreen Beyond if I can't share with friends or family - getting extra face gaskets for family could be justifiable, but if the headset IPD itself varies from model to model, then just swapping face gaskets won't work, will it? Really waiting for 12K because I don't want to pay again just to give up wide FoV... I hope they can make a good lens for 12K and I still think they should just integrate the Lighthouse tracking faceplate into the headset rather than have a separate accessory, so I'll only get 12K when the Lighthouse faceplate is available and working stably. May consider a future model Bigscreen Beyond for myself if they can do a wide FoV that gets close to what my 8KX has. (i.e. less FoV than 8KX, but not much less)
Just got my Crystal delivered. Can't wait to try it out! I like the added benefit of neck workout with Crystal, a thicker neck with less time in the gym 😂 Edit: Pancake lenses on BB was a deal breaker for me. I wanted to try aspherical, incredibly small sweet spot was just a huge turn off for me, it really reminds you that you looking at a VR display.
@@mixedrealityTV The FOV of the Quest 3 will probably be about the same as the 2, so not that incredible. The next Pro should be incredible...maybe 2024 or so...
I personally don't understand why people accept the lower FOVs of these so called 'new' headsets. I have an 8KX and anything below the 'Normal' setting is unacceptable to me - like looking through binoculars. Even at the widest setting the vertical FOV is still just average.
Nothing to understand. Simply a matter of taste. I’m perfectly fine with 110 degrees of the aero as long as I have clarity and sharp graphics. I couldn’t use an 8kx for 5 minutes.
A matter of taste I guess. I don't understand why people accept 1kg brick of these so called 'new' headsets. Not being able to quickly move your face without the headset Flying across your face is a deal breaker for me. I too would like a 170g headset, with 180 fov, 60PPD, 200Hz, perfect dark, very bright, ect. But form factor is my main concern so I'll go for BSB
Some clarification as a Pimax Crystal owner and user. Things that some youtubers seem to miss saying. Pimax Crystal: -lens have quite small and visible sweetspot and is very weird, moving your head you can clearly see the difference in plane sims. No way that whole lens is sweetspot as suggested by others - lens distortion on sides but very visible on the bottom of the lens in menus and plane sims. No way that whole lens is perfect clear edge to edge. - ghosting on the edges when moving your head left or right
@@mixedrealityTV yes. twice. min 13.25. not truth. looking left to right just with your eyes, not entire head, not "everything looks perfectly clear". there is no edge to edge clarity for sweetspot and distorsion.
yes, but again, there is no edge to edge clarity. stop using such words. people buy and get disappointed after. not to mention the fact that hmd(pimax) is wobbly, foam do not fill whole face, and if you move arround you head quick(in DCS for example - static) you can lose your sweetspot and need to act.
@@bogdanpanait2009 I have all VR headsets out there. The edge to edge clarity is fantastic here. If you compare it to real life, it's still not the same but if you have experience then you know that this is great compared to the rest.
Personally I never found weight to be even worth considering, having worn a kevlar helmet for days at a time the weight of the helmet was never something I ever thought about. If you don't know how heavy a kevlar helmet weighs, it's about as heavy as the crystal if not heavier if you have NVG attached.
Just listening to this video, he came rather painful when you began referring to " this versus this," instesd of namkng which one you were talking about.
Nearly bought a Crystal, until I saw that they wanted to charge me nearly £70 shipping to the UK. Yes, it was a small fraction of the headset price but that's just stupid. Sort your distributors out in the bigger countries Pimax so you can do this without silly shipping prices.
Great comparison with the important details for those seriously considering these two. Unfortunately, neither is what I'm looking for. We can't excuse the gigantic size of the Crystal simply because it uses aspheric lenses though. That thing has a smaller FOV than Index after all. Don't want people thinking all HMDs using aspherics will be massive like that, because Pimax is just saving tooling costs by using the same massive housing as their wide FOV HMDs. IMO, every HMD should include quality off-ear audio - at least as a native option. I'm hoping for an HMD with uOLED panels and Index+ FOV and Index off-ear audio, ideally also with driver-level DFR. Come on already Valve!

@@ViperVenoM13 You are partially right. We planned to have the same shell from the very beginning. And it is not just the Crystal and 12k which will use this shell. We are also using the same PCB, most of the same internal components, and more. This reduces costs for the end consumer and allows us to share accessories between the different units. @@palps797 quest 2, because it’s so heavy and falls off my face when I look down, or jerk my head left or right.
Try the StudioForm Apache top strap. It solves everything for me.
You got eyestrain because of the false stereoscopic vision in the 8KX. The FOV was achieved with this drawback.
@@ThePape78 previous pimax headsets has a poorly made lense. Definitely 3d effect looks weird on pimax 5k Plus i used to have. I remember pimax said they gonna have new lense back 2018 but they cancelled it. Pimax knew lenses are not good and hope people dont notice it
Does the Crystal have a better (wider) sweet spot than the 8KX?
@@ThePape78 Meh, I had zero issues with it. People who have issues are actually outliers.
You aren't wrong... the 12K will be killer when it comes out in 5 years ; )
If we had used different shells it would have also required different PCBs, different faceplate accessories, different tooling at the factory, etc. End cost for the consumer would have been significantly higher if we had gone that route. This way the accessories are compatible between different models, we produce less waste and cause less damage to the environment. If dropping costs for the consumer while also reducing damage to the environment is bad, then lock us up.

Thanks Seb, well made out comparison.
Personally, as a simmer, I've bought the Crystal, but it's great we have different options that are prioritizing different things, instead of having carbon copies.

Any chance of a showdown between the Bigscreen Beyond and the Quest Pro?
Hi @MRTV . I bought the Crystal and it doesn't fit my face - it way to wide for me. Do you have any info where I can purchase a nice leather plush face mask, not spongy one ? Love the video . Thanks :)
I got my Crystal a few weeks ago and I should be in the first shipment of the Beyond. I'm clearly to impatient to wait for videos like this.😂
I would buy the Bigscreen just for the form factor as there is nothing comparable on the market and I respect the company's response to the feedbacks, being innovative and their reputation before.
There 8KX was a turn off for me it my eyes did not adjust to it well at all. I would rather have comfort and eye adjustment more the FOV.
Hardcore Racing simmers seem to prefer Beyond, due to comfort. They're willing to forgoe visuals for comfort
Waiting for HP Reverb replacement with microOLEDs, better (glass) optics, eye tracking and credible passthru for mixed reality.
Doubtful HP will release a Reverb G3 anytime soon. Rumor has it they are done with VR for the time being... not even producing G2 after 2023 and will end support in 2026.
After all these years buying headsets to pioneer VR , I do like the idea of having one that is just for me :)
Sometime is not working as promised. It always were that way
The odyssey plus has a design flow you can correct by tilting the back up and open enlarging the bottom of the original face gasket on the front. This will help your face entering fully inside the headset and give you almost total vertical field of view.Try it.
I appreciate hearing about which headsets have better or worse problems with lens glare. That was one thing I really hate about Valve Index
The IPD is fixed. You get the size that is right for you.
@@mixedrealityTV Ahh okay probably the nail in the coffin for me then
@@DMan-ud6bt Yeah that's a real shame. I might have considered it if there was at least the potential to have other people use it properly
@mixedrealityTV you forgot to mention that if you ship the pimax to europe you also need to pay additional cost (Same as the beyond form 999 -> 1369 )
Thanks, this video made it clear. I need to buy the Pimax 12K! ; )
Crystal with slightly wider fov, eye tracking for fovated rendering, a more universal fit, and inside out tracking
It's a shame that pimax didn't release the crystal just as a lighthouse hmd only. Would be so much
Lighter and cheaper not having to pay for battery, controllers, CPU etc. Would of bought that option easy over the beyond.
Then somnium vr 1 is your headset of it comes out
High chance you would loose other features as well - just more PCVR.

Quest Pro is a killer PCVR hmd and totally underrated and amazing value now vs these super flawed and not ready for prime time hMDs
Bigscreenbeyond looks like actual cyberware on Seb with the slick hair and that tshirt! 😎
They should add front cameras for a passthrough view, where a wide FoV is placed into the corners of the view like blindspot side mirrors in a car and plug into a backpack laptop so we can walk around town, posing...

Can Crystal work with Quest Pro controllers?
Pro controllers are proprietary. They only work on the meta echo system (quest 2, quest pro, and eventually quest 3). They will (more than likely) never get resources for 3rd party support.
@@HeckinDoga That also brings up the idea that a 3rd party player could make some controllers like these for all headsets if they wish to. Surprise we havent seen anyone try it yet.

It´s going to be none of them. But if i wanted to spend that amound of money, i would buy the crystal. Everything onboard, that i need to start. If i had lighthouse tracking, i would buy the big screen beyond, if i wanted to spend that much money^^
But i´ve got my Reverb G2 and do not need a better image.

But how do you get to 50% when the US price is without tax and the EU price is already including tax?

A tough call. With the wireless Pimax you have inertia problems from the weight of the headset. With Bigscreen you'll have tugging from the cable.

Alternate title: Goggles vs Face Brick.
Beyond 100%. I'm tired of wearing a brick strapped to my face. For my uses and time spent in VR comfort and form factor are major points.
Yeah the form factor truly is incredible!
Did he say the Crystal's FOV was 102 degree horizontal?
He did say that.
Top content, thank you!
You are welcome!
12:33 That's it, I'm waiting for 12K
Can't justify getting Bigscreen Beyond if I can't share with friends or family - getting extra face gaskets for family could be justifiable, but if the headset IPD itself varies from model to model, then just swapping face gaskets won't work, will it?
Really waiting for 12K because I don't want to pay again just to give up wide FoV... I hope they can make a good lens for 12K and I still think they should just integrate the Lighthouse tracking faceplate into the headset rather than have a separate accessory, so I'll only get 12K when the Lighthouse faceplate is available and working stably.
May consider a future model Bigscreen Beyond for myself if they can do a wide FoV that gets close to what my 8KX has. (i.e. less FoV than 8KX, but not much less)
Just got my Crystal delivered. Can't wait to try it out!
I like the added benefit of neck workout with Crystal, a thicker neck with less time in the gym 😂

@@Leynad778 There won't be a Pro 2. They have canceled it.
@@mixedrealityTV Not that I doubt it, but what's your source?
I preordered the bigscreen beyond, cant wait to get it
Great! Should arrive soon!
I'd take Oled over Qled any day that's why Samsung is making Oled tv's now and they look fantastic.
I personally don't understand why people accept the lower FOVs of these so called 'new' headsets. I have an 8KX and anything below the 'Normal' setting is unacceptable to me - like looking through binoculars. Even at the widest setting the vertical FOV is still just average.
Yeah, it's great to have a wide FOV. If that was introduced with the clarity of a Crystal....well..then we would have a 12K QLED!
Just buy both
Some clarification as a Pimax Crystal owner and user. Things that some youtubers seem to miss saying. Pimax Crystal: -lens have quite small and visible sweetspot and is very weird, moving your head you can clearly see the difference in plane sims. No way that whole lens is sweetspot as suggested by others
- lens distortion on sides but very visible on the bottom of the lens in menus and plane sims. No way that whole lens is perfect clear edge to edge.
- ghosting on the edges when moving your head left or right
Did you actually watch this video? XD I am exactly talking about this.
@@mixedrealityTV yes. twice. min 13.25. not truth. looking left to right just with your eyes, not entire head, not "everything looks perfectly clear". there is no edge to edge clarity for sweetspot and distorsion.
@@bogdanpanait2009 there is a distortion sweetspot. I am talking about it. You shoud be in it. If not, you got a problem.
yes, but again, there is no edge to edge clarity. stop using such words. people buy and get disappointed after. not to mention the fact that hmd(pimax) is wobbly, foam do not fill whole face, and if you move arround you head quick(in DCS for example - static) you can lose your sweetspot and need to act.
Get a Studioform topstrap. Big big difference both comfort and always at sweet spot on the lense
The BSB has a huge problem zero resale value due to the custom facepad and focal point.
The Crystal looks like an 80s VR headset compared to the BigScreen.
I know, I totally dig it.
Just listening to this video, he came rather painful when you began referring to " this versus this," instesd of namkng which one you were talking about.
Yeah, that's why it's a video and not an audio file:)
@@mixedrealityTV Couldn't hurt much to make it audio friendly too though.
PS: Sorry for my jibberish English and grumpy tone.
Nearly bought a Crystal, until I saw that they wanted to charge me nearly £70 shipping to the UK. Yes, it was a small fraction of the headset price but that's just stupid. Sort your distributors out in the bigger countries Pimax so you can do this without silly shipping prices.
More comparison, please!
Doesn't the Beyond only work well at 75hz? That's what I've seen elsewhere..
Good that you came to mrtv now.
Agreed, the size is due to the shell was meant to house the 12k since they realized they can't make it the settled to the crystal and kept the shell
Good luck with Valve, maybe another 5 yrs
@@ViperVenoM13 They are still making the 12k. The 12k and the Crystal use 70 % of the same parts. The Crystal was easier to develop so they pushed it first
@@victormaniaci2104 they were supposed to ship 12k last year
@@ViperVenoM13 You are partially right. We planned to have the same shell from the very beginning. And it is not just the Crystal and 12k which will use this shell. We are also using the same PCB, most of the same internal components, and more. This reduces costs for the end consumer and allows us to share accessories between the different units. This means less waste, less pollution, and a better customer experience as they can keep their accessories if they decide to change units or have more than one unit.
Something about having to send a face scan just creeps me out.
But at least you are not sending it to Meta!
Any news of the Arpara 5k ??? 🤣🤣🤣
So much details. Either way, money has to be saved up.
1.5 kilograms for a VR headset is insane, that's more then a motorcycle helmet.
1.15
beyond vs Varjo please
Bigscreen Beyond 90 Hz isn't at full resolution. Gonna keep my Reverb G2 until Beyond fixes some things.
