I was homeless for 6 years. Sleeping in hallways in the middle of Chicago winters almost dying from the cold. Not one social service organization helped me not a single one !! I got myself out with the help of my now husband who was also homeless at the time. Stop the excuses and keep trying trying trying. Start with a job .. any legal job and get a room. From there build yourself up. People just give up on themselves and go lower and lower on self esteem until its all gone. May God provide all the homeless a roof over the head and food on the table.

It broke a piece of my heart watching them bulldoze down those plywood sheds they made for themselves. I don't pretend to know what's best for anyone, but I do know the hard work that was put into trying to give people a warm place to lay their head at night was probably very rewarding work. To see it torn down was hard, and I know it was tragic to those people.
I can't even imagine what's going on right now there! I would love to see an update documentary done!!! I think it's videos like these that really help people understand what's really going on with the homeless population. It's extremely important to humanize this issue, as crazy as that sounds, way to many people don't have any real knowledge about this problem.
Like one man said, we all used to have homes, we are educated, and my personal favorite was when one man said we're not looking for a hand out but a hand up!!! That's the most important lesson, we need to help our own people get back onto their feet. That's what most want, and it's not okay to just look the other way! That will never help anyone!
And yes, I completely understand that some people want nothing to do with society and choose that life. And I understand that drugs and alcohol are issues, but so are mental health and overall health issues that really need to be taken care of as a major priority. Locking people away because of addiction is plain wrong, and most people now understand that, thankfully! It's high time the crazy government understands this, no pun intended.
Okay, enough of my ramblings. I just get passionate when it comes to helping one another. It's the only way, we need to build stronger communities! I guess I just worry a lot when the cold weather comes. A person is a person, we all have basic needs.
Thanks to the people who put this together, it is very important!!!

I saw something similar to this in Dallas. There was a vacant lot in an Industrial area that had a lot of low rent businesses, machine shops, construction offices and storage, shady car mechanics etc etc. The point is this was not primo property and the lot has been empty for over decade when homeless started stetting up tents and whatnot. After a few months they had wooden structures up and it looked like they were progressing well, then one day the City of Dallas comes in with bulldozers and levels the camp. Why? The pandemic pushed a lot of people out of work and rent, they weren't hurting anybody and just trying to get through this stoopid pandemic shit, it was a better solution than the pinhead bureaucrats were providing but it was destroyed anyway. I had another tiny home I was working on and it was twice as big but the only problem it's too hard to get it on places where I park at. I've been off grid for 2 years. The only regret I have is I wish I would have done it sooner. You're better off to park and live by yourself. With homeless camps there's too much theft, drama, drugs, drinking and chaos.

@@harlowjademermaid1882 there's rest areas, park and rides, truck stops, abandoned places if you get out ride and look you'll get ideas. It's better to move your vehicle around each day and come back in the night and park. Going to church there may be some people there after you get to know them that will let you park there for free or know of some other place. Some Walmarts have actual security guards on the lot and in the store and most of those areas will not let you park overnight. On the East Coast during the covid most places are still not open 24 hours. So this limits places to park overnight. Smaller towns less crime and places to park. I rent a small piece of land in a bad area crime is bad but they don't care what I do there. Crime is so bad they steal catalytic converters and other parts. I don't park on the land overnight but I park my equipment there and they already stole one catalytic converter on one vehicle. The problem is the homeless crack heads are stealing everything in sight for their fix. I don't care if someone wants to be homeless but when they're on the crack, meth and other bad drugs it makes them steal to get their fix. Further up the road in a small town there's two or three homeless people that stay in a Wallmart lot but they don't bother anybody and they work and sleep in their vehicles. In another area further down the road where I park at at times when I go through there there's a x police officer that lives in his vehicle and he doesn't bother anybody. One of the guys at Walmarts lot is on disability he doesn't bother anybody either. The bigger cities attract the bad homeless pushing carts and the bad drug problems by what I see. I checked with 85 places before I found the small piece of land to rent. I really wanted to find a farm where someone could watch my stuff and there's no crime. With this massive financial collapse coming things are only going to get worse unfortunately.

I've seen many places in a big city that you could hide out and be alone. But these people on hard drugs can't be alone they can't make it by their self. They need their dealer close by to get high. Crazy. I too was homeless in St. Louis of 2010. To see that just really brought me back to a terrible time. I live in Tennessee now. Lived in STL from 2008, to 2020 and it was hell being homeless off and on. I remember when they closed New Life, and when landlords used it to their advantage to exclude people and to raise rents when the economy was at it's lowest. I was evicted over in Maplewood when the building was closing. But ironically, they kept a few tenants and even gave them their rent back! I was also harassed so badly by cops there. Racism wouldn't allow me to get and keep a job. I was raised on the west coast, had the education and everything. But because I was Black someone always made it their business to make things harder at work. They place alot of poor people in situations where they can't afford tickets or to get attorneys. Something has to change there.

They forced several of the shelters that housed these people in the winter to shut down and close their doors. This has left the homeless with nowhere to go during the freezing winter months. It's horribly sad and people in the community have tried to step up and go around delivering food, clothes, coats, etc. but there's only so much they you can do.
